Today, we're diving into the world of affordable and accessible healthcare benefits for hourly employees. Meet Hooray Health, a game-changer in the industry that aims to bridge the gap between basic healthcare needs and major medical insurance. With their innovative approach and data-driven insights, Hooray Health is revolutionizing the way we think about healthcare. So, let's jump right in and explore their journey! The Birth of a Vision: Shane Foss, the CEO and founder of Hooray Health. They recognized the lack of transparency and affordability in urgent care services and saw an opportunity to make a difference. Inspired by the success of their urgent care model and its similarities to direct primary care, they decided to create a bundled or flat rate system for urgent care visits. Overcoming Challenges and Building a Network: To make his vision a reality, Shane gathered urgent care doctors for a roundtable discussion. By identifying common issues and pain points, they developed a contract that was met with enthusiasm by the doctors. This contract offered a $25 copay with no balance bill, eliminating the dreaded surprise medical bills that plague so many. Building a network of providers in major metro areas was no easy task, but Hooray Health persevered. Within six months, they established contracts with over 50% of urgent cares in the United States, covering 85% of the population within 10 miles of a contracted provider. Talk about accessibility! Scaling Up and Success: After their initial success, Hooray Health expanded nationally within two years. Today, they boast a high retention rate and have not lost a client in four years. Siemens Energy, a client for five years, is a testament to the trust and satisfaction their services provide. Understanding the Limitations: It's important to note that Hooray Health is not major medical insurance. Instead, it serves as a valuable alternative for those who don't have insurance or need additional coverage. While they cover basic healthcare needs, they do have limitations for catastrophic events. However, they can sit underneath a subsidy on the exchange for individuals who weren't offered an employer-sponsored health plan. Innovation and Collaboration for a Better Future: Hooray Health's success story goes beyond providing affordable and accessible healthcare benefits. Spencer and Shane emphasize the need for improved access, transparency, and collaboration between the government and the industry. They believe that by working together, we can address the current issues plaguing the healthcare system and pave the way for a brighter future. Conclusion: Hooray Health's journey is a testament to the power of innovation and collaboration in the healthcare industry. By focusing on affordability, accessibility, and meaningful benefits, they are filling the gap for hourly employees who deserve quality healthcare without breaking the bank. With their mobile app, provider network, and commitment to doing the right thing for their members, Hooray Health is paving the way for a future where healthcare is truly accessible to all. So, let's raise a cheer for Hooray Health and their mission to revolutionize healthcare! https://youtu.be/z3u09n5huEQ Shane Foss is the founder and CEO of Hooray Health, a limited benefit medical plan provider focused on providing practical health care plans and protecting their members against predatory balanced billing practices. We talk about the main stages of a business life cycle, how to avoid the predatory balance billing trap, and the main drivers of the medical debt crisis.   --- Learn the Lifecycle Metrics Framework with Shane Foss Our guest is Shane Foss, the founder and CEO of Hooray Health, a limited benefit medical plan provider built to use with the National Provider Network of retail clinics and urgent care centers. Hooray's goal is to offer low-cost practical health care plans that are supported by technology and protect their members against predatory balanced billing practices. Welcome to the show, Shane. Great to have you. Thanks for having me, Steve. Look forward to it. Well, lots of things to unpack in the introduction, which we will go to in a few minutes, but I'd like to start with how do you get to start a health insurance company? How does how does that even work? You know it's funny this is not where I grew up professionally. I actually grew up in medical device sales leadership. So, in other words really in orthopedics my whole career has been really in the operating room and working with physicians and other healthcare professionals selling orthopedic implants. So, I've always been a very curious person, always a constant learner. And so, obviously I have an entrepreneurial bug. So, what was interesting was I had left the orthopedic industry with a very good friend of mine. And I got introduced as I was a COO of a company that created access for large self-funded employers for surgical bundles. And so, we built that provider network out and that was right up my alley because I understood that space really well, but it was kind of an entry into employer benefits. So, when I got there, really, as crazy as it sounds, I fell in love with it. It was really interesting. And what I found most interesting was that there was a huge opportunity to improve. And what I found was there is dark side to healthcare that is interesting because you think dark side to healthcare really, but providers in their Hippocratic Oath, doctors and nurses, but a doctor in the Hippocratic Oath, they take this oath and it's do not harm. And 99.9% of the physicians I know, that's their credo, they live by it. But what they don't realize is the ugly side or the dark side of healthcare is when you have bills that don't get paid for one reason or the other, whether your insurance didn't cover it, so guess what? They get sent to collections. And over 70% of personal bankruptcies are due to medical-related bad debt. So that was really kind of my entry into that space, and so I understood it really well. And I, myself, we sold the company, and we stayed on six months, and then we went out and we were consulting, trying to figure out what we were gonna do next. And so, I had this idea of Hooray Health when I myself went into an urgent care and got an $800 balance bill. And so, you know, understanding the market, I was able to negotiate it down. I knew, you know, what it would take to get out of it. And so, I took care of it, but, you know, the average American, that's not what they do. And, you know, and it's just such a screwy market. And so, I thought, you know what, this is a good opportunity for us. And so that was where I really got the foundation for Hooray Health and started building it from there. So really without the intent of saying, hey, I want to get into the health insurance space, it was more, you know, really solving a problem for a group of people. That's very interesting. And I've only been in this country for 10 years, but I also had an early experience with getting hit by a $5,000 bill for a visit or something like that. I was shocked and I fought the system and I mean I don't have to get into it b...

Years ago, Shane Foss had a back issue and checked into a nearby urgent care facility to get help. After getting services, he was billed $800. Fortunately, Shane had worked in the healthcare space and knew how to negotiate it down to $75. That's when he got the idea to start Hooray Health, a company aimed at providing limited healthcare benefits to hourly workers that won't break the bank. Shane's business now has contracts with urgent care centers in major cities that keep the bill to $25, no matter the services needed. Building A Dream Job Building A Dream Job Isn't Really Possible is the discussion on today's guest joining us on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots business podcast. This has been inspired by a message that we recieved into the Join Up Dots email inbox from a great guy from Denver Colorado. Lukas has been in contact with us over the last few years, as he looks to keep building a dream job around photography - his huge passion. His question is based around the concept of do you keep building a dream job and struggle in the beginning, or do something else to make it easier to get there later? The Building A Dream Job Question Hi David, I hope life is treating you well. I've started an electrical business and I've been focusing more on that lately then my passion of being a photographer. I still do photography, but the electrical business is way more lucrative. I don't hate electrical work, but I also don't love it. My question is, should I build the electrical company so I can do amazing things in the future or should I struggle in the beginning and do what I love? Our Building A Dream Job Answer  I can answer this one hundred percent.......bring in the money mate. Be pragmatic about it. You see nobody ends up having a business that they truly love. I used to think that was the case, but now I see it otherwise otherwise it would be called a hobby. With Join Up Dots i would say there is seventy percent that I love and thirty percent that is a hassle. But it is as it is. What it does give me is 1: no boss, 2: no fixed timescales 3: the ability to travel when and where i want. I actually found a vision board that I created six years ago, and i forgot about it, and I had achieved everything i wanted and they were all based around being free, not being told what to do etc So i would say think this...... can YOU build the electrical company until you become the OWNER and not working in the business? If you can ( and i know you can) then you have income coming in passively which means then you can do what you want to do. For example, I now own a car parts shop and Im having to work in it three days per week UNTIL i get the issues sorted and we start making good money and then I am out of here....but the money will be coming with me Does that make sense pal??? Summary So what do you think? Is this the right way to go? Should we spend our time doing anything that we dont like in life, if it makes the majority of our time amazing? Let us know by connecting with us below and you can help others move forward to building a dream job, and of course a life.
