Ever wondered if the life of a high-class escort is as glamorous as it seems? We're back to spill the tea on our limited edition four-episode re-watch of Showtime's own Gigolos. This time, we're dissecting the quirks of episodes three and four, where we witness everything from Brace's date with an industry plant to Jimmy's toe-curling shenanigans with a wanna-be dominatrix. Get ready to unpack episodes three and four with us because not only are we both left bewildered but highly entertained, like when Brace pitches his latest pyramid scheme—oops, we mean, business opportunity. Also in today's episode: we're chatting about the blurred lines between pleasure and business. Plus, we have an emotional conversation on the struggles the guys face with friends and loved ones with their risqué careers, and why those real-life implications of their chosen profession are kinda stupid.Don't forget to join us every Tuesday for the next four weeks as we re-watch Gigolos. We'll be back with S4 in the next little in a few months. But if you like what you hear, leave a review or share with a friend. See you next week!Support the show

Much of the peril and persecution of the McCarthy era is well-trodden territory in historical dramas, but the burden that the Red Scare placed on the L.G.B.T. community is another story. The historian and writer Thomas Mallon published a novel called “Fellow Travelers,” drawing from real-life events, about a gay couple living under the shadow of the McCarthy witch hunts; it has now been adapted into a Showtime miniseries. “The government was really on a tear when it came to dismissing gays from the State Department—but really all over in the early fifties,” Mallon tells David Remnick. “So really any gay romance had to be tremendously clandestine.” Gay Americans targeted by McCarthy and his acolytes were forced to assert not only their patriotism but their humanity, too. “The book is full of people trying to reconcile things which society and the government are telling them are irreconcilable,” Mallon says. “But the people themselves don't see any moral or logical reason why.” Mallon talks about the political climate in nineteen-fifties Washington and about the pioneering L.G.B.T. activist who picketed the White House years before Stonewall.Share your thoughts on The New Yorker Radio Hour  podcast.

The new Showtime series Let the Right One In expands on the ideas introduced in the now-classic 2008 Swedish horror movie and the American remake. A man, Mark Kane (Demián Bichir) and his tween daughter, Ellie (Madison Taylor Baez) move in to a New York City apartment, where she befriends the lonely, bullied boy down the hall. But she has a huge secret that her father helps her keep- she is a child vampire who must survive on blood and can't go outside in the daytime. The series Let The Right One In explores the relationships and conflicts within families, the horror of vampires, and brings in new characters, crimes and mysteries to add layers to the story. Cinematographer Eric Branco had seen the original Let The Right One In, shot by legendary DP Hoyte van Hoytema, as well as the American version, Let Me In, lensed by none other than Greig Fraser, and it remains one of Eric's favorite movies. He was thrilled to have the opportunity to bring his own look and feel to the story and make it his own. Eric focused on the idea that for the young vampire girl, the indoors is safe and the outdoors is not, so the home features very warm light with lots of yellows, while outside is a shadowy, cool blue and green. He also played with the natural contrast of light between night and day. At night, it was important to play up the danger and horror elements with action taking place in shadows and tunnels, with yellow streetlights selectively showing bits and pieces, building suspense. Let The Right One In is much wider in scope than the movies, featuring many other storylines and locations, which created its own challenges. Eric and the crew had to work within the time constraints for the child actors, especially at night. Planning, blocking and rehearsal became an essential part of some shoot days. When they were shooting the pilot, they had to wait until dark, during the summer solstice- the longest day of the year. That left them with about 2 ½ hours to shoot with the lead actress, Madison Taylor Baez. The most challenging day for Eric was when they did a night shoot at Coney Island with very limited time on the Wonder Wheel with the actors. He and the camera department planned extensively and strategically placed cameras all over to cover all of the action, after several scouts and extensive rehearsals before dark. Eric says that when you have to work with that many cameras and with so much riding on timing and coordination, it becomes more like a team sport and it feels amazing to pull it all off. Eric also likes to have an open, trusting relationship with the actors and let them have more freedom of movement within the frame to explore their characters and enhance their performances. Eric thinks the trust is built on the DP's end, especially when you're shooting something in an unconventional way like on Let The Right One In. Let The Right One In is currently on Showtime. https://www.sho.com/let-the-right-one-in Find Eric Branco- Instagram: @ericbranco Find out even more about this episode, with extensive show notes and links: http://camnoir.com/ep189/ Hear Eric's previous interview on The Cinepod: https://www.camnoir.com/ep95/ Sponsored by ARRI: https://www.arri.com/en Sponsored by Hot Rod Cameras: www.hotrodcameras.com The Cinematography Podcast website: www.camnoir.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/TheCinematographyPodcast Facebook: @cinepod Instagram: @thecinepod Twitter: @ShortEndz

Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson are co-creators and co-executive producers of the series “Yellowjackets” on Showtime. The married team say they bonded over a revision class and have been collaborating ever since, but they write the series from the retreat of their own spaces. “We definitely cannot be in the same room when we're working,” Lyle quips. Writing this complex show is a joint effort where they pick a different starting point, and repeatedly review each other's work. But their thinking is not always fully aligned, so Nickerson explains that with the back and forth process, “we kind of find a shared point of view.” With Yellowjackets' seven Emmys nominators, the duo is now working on season two of the hit series. They join The Business to discuss the show's conceptualization, their hit-and-miss pitches, and how Showtime proved to be the right home for their vision.  First, Kim Masters and Matt Belloni, founding partner of Puck News, delve into the latest decisions Warner Bros. Discovery CEO Zaslav has made, and how the industry is responding.

In Wakefield, Kristen channeled her experience with mental illness into an art form to try to help reverse the stigma around mental health. Psychiatric hospitals are not typically portrayed in true fashion on TV, but are heavily stereotyped – which is part of the problem. Kristen is passionate about the concept of where is the line between mental health and living with untreated mental health symptoms, and exploring that in an entertaining and darkly comedic way. Kristen also took a big risk to bring Wakefield to the small screen. She realized to get the project financed, she would need to reveal the authenticity behind its creation, but she felt exposing her experience of being hospitalized could potentially ruin her career. However, Kristen felt that it was worth the risk to help fight mental health stigma and help others with mental health issues.   If you enjoy this podcast, be sure to follow or subscribe wherever you are listening, and share the show with your colleagues and friends. Showtime's "Black Monday" centers around The Jammer Group, a ragtag Wall Street firm headed by Maurice “Mo” Monroe (Don Cheadle). Mo leads his team of misfit traders, including eager-to-please Keith (SAG Award winner Paul Scheer). Together, they take on the moneyed, blueblood, old-boys club of New York finance and end up unwittingly crashing a Lamborghini limousine, the glass ceiling and the world’s largest financial system in this scathing comic commentary on 1980s excess.
