Guten Morgen liebe Klasse!
This week on Enjoy Stuff, Jay and Shua tumble head-first into the wonderfully absurd world of Monty Python, celebrating the comedy troupe that made nonsense an art form. Twitter Facebook I have never recorded an abridged version of a Sherlock Holmes mystery short story, not wishing to truncate the words of the great Conan Doyle. However, it occurred to me that the time of three half-hour sitcoms may be too much for listeners to bear to listen to a Holmes short story. In order to guard against this pity, I have recorded this abridged version of a humorous yet exciting Holmes short story, abridging it to under two half hour sitcoms in length. I started out the recording thinking I could do so in twenty minutes. It can’t be done while still doing justice to the story, to the writing and to the detective or the author. And so here in 47 minutes flat, is the abridged version, hopefully with all its essential glory retained. –Your narrator, Rick Reiman. Twitter Facebook

Hi everyone! We recently surveyed our audience and learned that many of you would like to see more video. So, we're kicking off a new run of video episodes, beginning with our interview featuring John Cleese—actor, writer, comedian, and author of Creativity: A Short and Cheerful Guide. You can watch the interview on our Substack, or on Youtube. Enjoy! Original intro The Ministry of Silly Walks. The Cheese Shop. French Taunting. If you haven't seen any of these Monty Python sketches before, do us a favor and go watch one or two of them. You'll discover—or re-discover—why our guest for this episode is a creative comic legend. John Cleese starred in and co-wrote the award-winning series Fawlty Towers, was nominated for an Academy Award for the screenplay of A Fish Called Wanda, and even has a species of lemur named after him (Cleese's wooly lemur, Avahi cleesei). He's also an expert on the creative process, and so if you're looking for a new framework to level-up your own workflow, his book Creativity: A Short and Cheerful Guide is a great resource. We talk with John about his new book, and also about creative collaboration in the midst of friction, how to be comfortable with ambiguity, and creating boundaries of space and time to get in a creative mode. We also get to ask him a question that's been bugging us ever since we first watched Monty Python and The Holy Grail. These days, we can all use a little more laughter in our lives. We hope our interview with John sparks some joy, and leaves you with some new creative tools. Thanks for listening. Bio John Cleese is an English actor, comedian, writer, and film producer. He achieved success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and as a scriptwriter and performer on The Frost Report. In the late 1960s, he co-founded Monty Python, the comedy troupe responsible for the sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus and the four Monty Python films, And Now for Something Completely Different, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, and The Meaning of Life. In the mid-1970s, Cleese and his first wife, Connie Booth, co-wrote and starred in the British sitcom Fawlty Towers. Later, he co-starred with Kevin Kline, Jamie Lee Curtis, and former Python colleague Michael Palin in A Fish Called Wanda and Fierce Creatures. He also starred in Clockwise, and has appeared in many other films, including two James Bond films, two Harry Potter films, and the last three Shrek films. He is also the author of Creativity: A Short and Cheerful Guide. *** This ad-supported episode is available to everyone. Do you feel ready to speak up and share the Gospel with others? Do you know what to say and how to say it? We listen to pastors and evangelists and a host of speakers give us a thousand different ways to share the gospel – formulas, acronyms, points to remember, the “right” words for the Prayer of Salvation – how do we keep it all straight? Which is the best way? Pastor Ken tells you in his message today that the Gospel isn't complicated. You can share your faith with anyone, today, by keeping it simple.
Jesus is coming back, are you ready? For some of us, if we're honest, that thought fills us with anxiety. “Am I ready?” We ask ourselves as we evaluate our most recent decisions. We feel like we haven't accomplished our goals, been “good enough” to be rewarded, and a host of other intrusive thoughts. But today, Pastor Ken tells you that, yes, Jesus is coming, and you do need to be ready; however, this should fill you with comfort and joy knowing that you are Jesus' reward and He's thrilled about it.
The Bible is clear, God gives us grace and mercy and He loves us unconditionally. But it's difficult to keep that in mind when things aren't going our way. Especially when we're experiencing the consequences of our own actions. Pastor Ken tells you today that, no matter what's going on in your life, there's overwhelming comfort available to you through Jesus. Not only does He comfort you, but He helps you through your situation in a way that enables you to help others go through the same things.

No spoilers, but the path to authenticity and her gender identity taken by Executive Director of Film and Television for Hearst Magazines Jude Harris, is not one you might expect. She's using her uniqueness and perspective to help tell queer stories in a difficult market and paving the way for trans and queer executives to follow her trail. Along the way, there were a lot of difficult things to let go of, but empowered her to own her narrative. In addition to leadership insights, Jude penned a story, with advice that is "excellent for any dark day when all you can do is hope for a better future and start walking in that general direction," which is the epilogue to Forging Queer Leaders: How the LGBTQIA+ Community Creates Impact from Adversity.

Hey everyone! Jeremy here. I am so proud to bring to you our new theme song. We hope you enjoy it, and that when you hear it, you think Sley House. Let me set the scene: Mount Sequoyah is an artist community housed in a collection of historic buildings atop the tallest peak in Fayetteville. Depending on the chosen vantage point, one might look out over downtown Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas, or see the sprawling landscape rolling away to the horizon as the Ozark hills. It was here, in the studio belonging to Chris of Southern Terminus Recording, as the thunder rumbled and the crows signaled the disparity of the season, that we settled upon Sley House Presents new theme... “Emissary” 30th-anniversary reflections Commence station log. When Deep Space Nine premiered on January 3, 1993, it marked an unprecedented moment for Star Trek. Not only did Gene Roddenberry capture lightning in a bottle twice, the success of The Next Generation led to a second spinoff of the 1960s classic. But simply putting another crew on another starship to boldly go where no one had gone before wasn't going to cut it this time. After all, the Enterprise was still busy doing just that. Instead, creators Rick Berman and Michael Piller took the original premise of Star Trek to heart and delivered the Wild West theme on which Roddenberry pitched the adventures of Kirk and Spock. The concept provided the foundation for an incredible exploration of the human condition and stories that have stood the test of time, continuing to teach, warn, and engage three decades later. In this episode of The Orb, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing shift from our format of exploring the minutiae of DS9 to begin a 30th-anniversary retrospective that will take you through all of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, one episode at a time. In this installment, we begin with the pilot, “Emissary,” as we discuss how it establishes the story and tone of DS9 and sets the series apart from TNG. “Free market” is a concept beloved by many but understood in incredibly different ways. Most use Milton Friedman's definition: the absence of any and all government activity in economic affairs. In the Cold War, free markets were understood to be a feature of liberty that set the free world apart from the planned economies of communist nations. Politicians use “free markets” as a stand-in for less government regulation or red tape or taxation. To interrogate this idea is Jacob Soll, author of “Free Market: The history of an idea.” He wonders why, in the United States, where the concept of free markets are universally loved, we've had two government bailouts in less than twenty years and whether our understanding of the term needs reappraisal. We discuss how we got to this current crisis, and how we can find our way out by looking to earlier iterations of free market thought. Contrary to popular narratives, early market theorists believed that states had an important role in building and maintaining free markets. Roman thinkers such as Cicero believed the Roman Empire built and sustained trade. Throughout the Middle Ages, kingdoms were highly protectionist. But in the eighteenth century, thinkers insisted on free markets without state intervention, leading to a tradition of ideological brittleness.Tracing the intellectual evolution of the free market, Soll argues that we need to go back to the origins of free market ideology to truly understand it—and to develop new economic concepts to face today's challenges.
