Forum sportswriter Jeff Kolpack and WDAY-TV director Stacey Anderson join host Mike McFeely on the plane flight from Johnson City, Tennessee, to Fargo to recap North Dakota State's wild 38-35 victory Saturday over East Tennessee State. The game will go down as one of the most remarkable comebacks in the Bison's history in Division I, yet it left a bad taste because NDSU was a 27-point favorite and struggled much of the game against the Buccaneers. That's the challenge with this game: Do you celebrate a remarkable victory or lament the performance in a game the Bison probably should've lost?

DESCRIPTION Inducted June 12, 2003 A 6'11″ center, Gminski played 14 seasons in the NBA. He had an outstanding collegiate career at Duke where he was named ACC Player of the Year for the 1979-80 season. A two-time All-American, Gminski is Duke's all-time leading rebounder and shot blocker. He was selected by the New Jersey Nets as the seventh overall pick in the 1980 NBA draft. During his seven seasons with the Nets, Gminski established himself as a tough player and helped lead the franchise to the playoffs five times. In his final season with the Nets he averaged 16.4 points and 8.8 rebounds before being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. In his first season with Philadelphia, he averaged 16.9 points and 10 rebounds per game. The following year he averaged over 17 points per game and led the 76ers to the Atlantic Division title. During his NBA career, Gminski scored more than 10,000 points and grabbed over 6,000 rebounds, a feat accomplished by only a handful of players in NBA history. INDUCTION BANQUET PROGRAM STORY — June 12, 2003 EXCELLENCE AND CONSISTENCY By Tom TarapackiNPASHF Board Member / Polish American Journal More than twenty years after leaving Duke University, Mike Gminski's name remains prominent in the illustrious basketball program's record books. The former two-time All-American remains the Blue Devil's all-time leading rebounder and shot blocker, and third-leading scorer. But when his collegiate playing days ended, the 6-11 center also enjoyed an outstanding 14-year NBA career, and is one of only a handful of pro players to score more than 10,000 points and haul in more than 6,000 rebounds. The great-grandson of a Polish immigrant from Karkow, Mike Gminski was born on August 3, 1959, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He grew up in nearby Monroe, where he attended Masur High School. Encouraged by his parents, Mike played tennis, baseball and football, and developed into one of the state's best high school basketball players. He was also a very good student — so good that he was able to leave high school a year early, a fact that most college recruiters overlooked. Mike struck up a friendship with a Duke player named Terry Chili at a basketball camp, and decided to make the Durham, North Carolina school his first visit after his sophomore year. He “fell in love with the campus” and committed to the Blue Devils. At Duke, head coach Bill Foster was trying to rebuild the program that had not been to the NCAA tournament in more than a decade. It became apparent very early that his freshman center could help him do just that. In his first season Gminski averaged 15.3 points and 10.7 rebounds for the 14-13 Blue Devils, and was named Atlantic Coast Conference 1976-77 co-rookie of the year. As a sophomore Mike averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds, earning first-team All-ACC honors. Even better, the Blue Devils posted its first of three straight 20-plus win seasons. Duke also won the ACC tournament for the first time since 1966, and made the NCAA tournament field. Mike had an excellent tournament, including a 29-point performance against Notre Dame in the semi-finals. The Cinderella Blue Devils made it all the way to the 1978 national championship game, where they battled valiantly but lost to Kentucky, 94-88. Mike had 20 points and 12 rebounds in the game, and was named to the All-NCAA Final Four team. As a junior Mike had an incredible season, leading Duke in scoring (18.8), rebounding (9.2), blocked shots (66), dunks (44), and field goal shooting (51.9%). He earned All-American honors and was named ACC Player of the Year. Duke complied a 22-8 mark and qualified for the NCAA tournament, but lost in the first round to St. John's. In the 1979-80 season the talented center was again a first team All-American, posting career highs in scoring (21.3), and rebounding (10.9). Mike also set a school single-season record for blocks with 97. His senior season also marked the third time that the history major was named an Academic All-American. That season Duke struggled down the stretch amid rumors that head Coach Foster would leave following the season. The Devils were seeded sixth for the ACC tournament and had little hope of landing an NCAA bid unless they won it. Duke responded by beating the top three seeds and winning the ACC crown. Duke advanced to the regional quarterfinal of the NCAA tournament before losing to Purdue. Gminski ended his collegiate career with numerous school records, and still holds Duke's career records for rebounds (1,242) and blocked shots (345), and is third in scoring (2,323 points). His jersey, number 43, was retired by Duke shortly after he left the school, and he was later inducted into the Duke Sports Hall of Fame. “G-man” was then selected in the NBA drafts first round (7th overall) by the New Jersey Nets. Gminski helped revive the struggling Nets, who made the playoffs in five of his seven seasons. He displayed a consistently outstanding all-around game, and was particularly known for his shooting touch. In fact, in four of his NBA seasons he hit better than 50 percent of his shots from the field. Gminski came into the league at about 240 pounds, but bulked up to as much as 270 pounds. Following his rookie season in New Jersey, Mike contracted a serious infection in his back after having surgery on an injured elbow. He was in critical condition for three days with a 105-degree temperature before doctors were finally able to successfully control the infection. His weight fell from 265 pounds to 215 pounds during his hospital stay. Mike was traded by the Nets in 1987, after enjoying one of his best seasons (16.4 points per game, 8.8 rebounds per game). He was among New Jersey's all-time leaders in several categories. He was second in games played (550), third in minutes (13,638), rebounds (3,671) and blocks (599), and fourth in points (6,415). Gminski went to Philadelphia, where he continued to excel. In his first season (1987-88) with the 76ers he averaged a “double-double”, with 16.9 points and 10 rebounds (along with 118 blocked shots). The following season Mike enjoyed his highest scoring average (17.2) as a pro as the 76ers won the Atlantic Division with a 53-29 record, but lost in the playoffs to Chicago. Those 76ers teams were among the best that Mike played on in the NBA, but he enjoyed the camaraderie as much as the winning. “The closeness of the players reminded me of my teams at Duke,” he recalled. In 1990 Mike was dealt to the Charlotte Hornets, an expansion franchise in its third year in the NBA. He has had a good first season upon his return to the state of North Carolina, but suffered a herniated disk. Injuries began to take their toll, and in 1994 he was traded to Milwaukee for Frank Brickowski in what was basically a salary move. Not wanting to become a “basketball vagabond” jumping from team to team, Gminski accepted an offer from the Charlotte Hornets to join their broadcast team. He stayed there for eight years, until the franchise moved to New Orleans, and then Mike joined the Fox Sports Net telecast team as a lead analyst. He lives in North Carolina with his wife, Stacey Anderson, and their son, Noah. Gminski continues to receive recognition for his athletic achievements. Last year he was named to the ACC 50th anniversary team. He also was named to the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame. He was also chosen as one of a group of 25 finalists for induction into the Verizon Academic All-American Hall of Fame. While Mike Gminski is widely considered one of college basketball's greatest players, he certainly does not receive his due as a professional athlete. He was not a flashy player who drew headlines on or off the court, but Gminski's career totals are quite impressive. They include 10,953 points, 6,480 rebounds and 989 blocked shots. He was skilled in all facets of the game, and was a well-linked and respected teammate wherever he played.

Fiascos industriels: la cigarette (presque) sans fumée de RJ Reynolds

Aujourd'hui l'économie

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 16, 2022 3:55

It's time for new beginnings and big expansions. I love what I created with Soul Savvy but it's time to grow and let in the light. It's time to step into leadership and help you rise into your personal mission, too. About New Beginnings & Expansion into the Leaders of Light I'm at the end of an era and what a journey it has been. Soul Savvy was such an iconic era of my life. I accomplished so much with it - but more than that, I found out who I am and what I'm here to do. When I felt so lost and alone, I created a new brand, Soul Savvy, and it honestly helped me empower myself so much. This outlet was a space for me to grow and learn and share and help others do the same. It's been a remarkable journey. But I'm moving into a new mission with one of my soul sisters, Stacey Anderson. The Leaders of Light is here to help you heal and feel your way to freedom. To help you take the lead, transmute darkness to light, and stand up for all that you are and all that you've come to this planet to experience. As The Leaders of Light, we're here to help you step into your own leadership and uncover the light. You can step out of the shadows and into your leadership. You have a mission here on this earthly existence. Will you rise up and join us in The Leaders of Light? Let me know in the comments, lovely! In This Episode How creating a new brand helped me empower myself [4:00] Why our mission is to help you heal and feel your way to freedom [12:15] Why we called our new company The Leaders of Light [15:00] What happens when you step out from the shadows and into your leadership [16:00] Quotes “We are here to heal our way to freedom. We are here to feel our way to freedom. We are here to transmute our karma and transmute the darkness into light.” [12:30] “This is the time for you to stand up, to take the lead, to transmute the darkness and to turn it into light. That is how you will become a leader of light in this world. Being stuck in your past pain, sitting with your frustration, and thinking about your future worry is how you lower your vibration. It's letting your ego and your human lead, but it takes you out of the here and now. It's time to release back to the ease and flow. About Free Yourself from Past Pain, Frustration & Future Worry I am wholly in my human right now, feeling my feelings, and being ruled by my ego. It's not pretty, but it's reality. Even lightworkers can get dragged down when life isn't going the way you thought it would go. Stepping back from that view, though, you can realise that you are in your ego and your human. It's surreal witnessing your ego, but that realisation can help you process what's going on and why you're feeling and behaving like you are. Once you've realised that you're in your human, it's easier to release yourself back into the flow. Your guides, Spirit, Source, God, the Universe - there is a plan for you, but no one said it would be easy and a straight line. Life will be messy, you will face challenges, but you will also come out the other side stronger than before. One of the reasons why we get stuck in our human is that we're focussing too much on past pain and future worry. This focus takes us out of the here and now and it disrupts our ability to embrace the journey. Being here and present in the now is essential. It's not always easy, but it's the only time that matters; it's the only time that you can make an impact on. The past no longer serves us, except for lessons, and the future is not our present worry. Actually releasing your expectations of the future and what you believe your path is might be easier said than done. But acknowledging where you are and accepting that there are divine plans for your life does create more ease with it. My mantra for this space in time is “bless this mess.” What mantras are you living with right now? Let me know in the comments, lovely! In This Episode What if feels like to witness your ego and your human [8:00] What happens when you release yourself into the flow [10:00] Why you should try to avoid past pain and future worry [14:30] Why you need to be here and present in the now [18:00] How to release your expectations and return yourself back to the now [21:30] Quotes “Whenever you have a vision or a desire and you begin to courageously follow that desire, I already know that this is part of the process. We need to surrender attachment to the outcome. We need to surrender our expectations of how the vision and the journey will unfold. It never ever unfolds in the way that we think it will. But it always unfolds in ways greater than we could have imagined.” [10:11] “When our mind is not present in the now, that is when the discomfort, the frustration, or the anxiety can begin to show up.” [14:05] “One day, we're going to look back on this moment and the version of ourselves that we are right now is cultivating and creating everything that we're going to have in the future, and that's gorgeous. There's a past version of us somewhere who would have been so grateful and so blessed to be in the positions that we're in today, with the things that we cultivated in our realities today.” [27:55] Resources Mentioned Buy the Lightworker Oracle Deck by Alana Fairchild (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lightworker-Oracle-Guidance-Empowerment-Colour/dp/1925538001/) Join The Soul Savvy Collective Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/soulsavvytribe) Find Sarah Flynn Online (https://sarahjflynn.com/) Follow Sarah Flynn on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/sarahxflynn/) | Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/sarahflynncoaching) | YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1vmQ8rg-xfhHBLvqJ8qzcA) If you liked this episode, please check out some others: Episode 44: Releasing Expectations & Societal Pressure with Stacey Anderson (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-44-releasing-expectations-societal-pressure-with-stacey-anderson/) Episode 46: Releasing the Need to Fix, Releasing Judgement & Staying in the Light (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-46-releasing-the-need-to-fix-releasing-judgement-staying-in-the-light/) Episode 34: Protecting Yourself from Psychic Attacks (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-34-protecting-yourself-from-psychic-attacks/)

It’s time for you to stand in your truth and live the truest existence of who you are. You don’t need to fix your life or others, release the hold that judgement has over you. To stay in the light, you need to rise above and be a beacon for others to rise, too. About Releasing the Need to Fix, Releasing Judgement & Staying in the Light You don’t need to micromanage and fix your life. You actually just need to allow yourself to say yes to what life brings you and trust the process. When you trust the Universe and your guides, you are guided, held, and supported. I know all too well what it’s like to truly think that everyone else needs to believe exactly what you do. Pushing your beliefs on others and thinking that they’re wrong for not sharing your opinions. But the best way to be of service to others is to live your best life and lead by example. You can’t force other people to see the world your way. All you can do is be your own beacon of light, live in your truth, and be a symbol for other people to awaken in their own way. And that’s the key. People won’t awaken and all live the same path. If they did, the world would be boring, right? People will embrace their unique gifts and experiences and live their own life of truth. It’s so important that we don’t hold and pass judgement on them. That we don’t judge other people’s paths for being different to our own. When you live in truth to yourself, that’s where your magic lies and how you can help the world awaken. Live your truest existence, on the path that your soul’s calling out for you to follow, and be a shining beacon to others. As you awaken and shine your light, you encourage and help other’s do the same. Let’s continue to be anchored in our truth and in our life. Let’s let our energy be our message and our brand. Let me know in the comments, lovely! In This Episode What happens when you allow yourself to say yes to life and trust the process [3:30] How to best be of service to others [9:15] Why you can’t force other people to see the world your way [11:00] The problem with judgement and judging other people’s paths [15:30] What happens when you live in truth to yourself [18:30] Quotes “This is what I truly want for everyone. For everybody to allow themselves to experience this level of magic, this level of trust, this level of deep service to self and deep service to Source in a way that creates miracles in your life every single day.” [4:51] “When you are showing up from a wounded place and you’re trying to push, pull, or project your truth onto other people, you’re doing this from a place of fear. You’re doing this because you’re scared, which is perpetuating more fear into the Universe.” [13:14] “You are unique, your life path is unique. When you live in service to yourself, you will effortlessly attract those who are supposed to live a similar lifestyle to yours. Who desire to choose the same things as what you choose, who value the same things as what you value. You won’t need to push your beliefs onto anyone or try to make everybody see the world in the way that you see it. Allow your focus to be on you being in your own unique self-expression.” [21:37] Resources Mentioned Join The Soul Savvy Collective Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/soulsavvytribe) Find Sarah Flynn Online (https://sarahjflynn.com/) Follow Sarah Flynn on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/sarahxflynn/) | Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/sarahflynncoaching) | YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1vmQ8rg-xfhHBLvqJ8qzcA) If you liked this episode, please check out some others: Episode 45: Following the Whispers of Your Heart (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-45-following-the-whispers-of-your-heart/) Episode 44: Releasing Expectations & Societal Pressure with Stacey Anderson (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-44-releasing-expectations-societal-pressure-with-stacey-anderson/) Episode 43: Lessons from Glastonbury – Failure Cannot Exist in the Pursuit of Joy (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-43-lessons-from-glastonbury-failure-cannot-exist-in-the-pursuit-of-joy/)

Have you heard the whisper? Have you felt those nudges? That’s your soul calling to you, asking you to allow more into your life. Asking you to lead with your desires and your heart. About Following the Whispers of Your Heart It’s all too common to give too much into your head and your mind. Because so often of what your heart and your soul is calling out for doesn’t make logical sense. Yes, you could be perfectly happy to listen to your mind and ignore the call - but what happens when you ask for more? What happens when you start leading with your heart? When you allow your heart and your soul to guide you, when you ask for more, and when you open yourself up to the miracles and the possibilities - that’s where the magic happens. Your ego doesn’t want to believe what your heart knows to be true. It’s keeping you in a realm of perceived safety because it can’t comprehend what’s on the other side of trust. You didn’t come to your human life to play it safe, though. You came here to create waves and live a life of magic. What if I told you that you can still play it safe while living a life of magic? If you’ve been hearing the whisper and know there’s more for you in this existence, I’d love to invite you to The Whisper. The Whisper is an 8-week live divine feminine immersion for she who dares to lead with her desires and heart. I’m hosting this incredible transformation with Stacey Anderson. Doors are open now - please send me an email or connect with me on social media to find out more. This is your invitation to lean into that edge. Will you answer the whisper? Let me know in the comments, lovely! In This Episode What it feels like to receive nudges from your soul [4:30] How your mind can hold you back from following your call [7:45] What happens when you ask for more [13:30] How your ego can keep you in a realm of perceived safety [16:00] Why this life isn’t for playing safe [17:00] How to still have safety while you’re leaning into your heart and desires [17:45] Quotes “I know how much courage and how much bravery it takes to say yes to your heart. I know, because this whole life that I have created so far, and the life that I continue to expand into, has been one huge heart-led journey. Not one part of this journey has ever made logical sense. The things that I’m moving into now and the risks that I’m taking now to follow my heart - same thing. They don’t make logical sense. My mind is having an absolute meltdown at trying to comprehend some of the decisions that I am making right now.” [8:32] “I’m here for the growth and I know that the growth isn’t linear. As a result, I’m willing to risk everything that I know as my life, now, to step up and say ‘yes’ to opportunities that are unfolding. I’m brave enough to lead with the desires that I have in my heart. I can truly expand in the vision that I hold in my heart and I know I have the power to create that.” [14:19] “I want you to feel safe in who you are. I want you to feel safe in your connection to self, your connection to Source, your connection to spirit, your connection to being a human being on the planet at this time, and being connected to people who deeply support you, love you, and hold you in all of you.” [18:00] Resources Mentioned Doors are Now Open to The Whisper. The Universe is whispering to you, can you hear it? The Universe wants you to release all the expectations you’re carrying and all of the societal pressure you feel every day. Join me and Stacey Anderson as we share how we’ve released this pressure, activated our divine gifts, and have now channelled a new program for other women to do the same. About Stacey Anderson Stacey Anderson is a spiritual healer and channeller. She is blessed to have the ability to receive messages and guidance from various beings in the spirit world. She speaks light language which speaks to your soul and raises your vibration. Not only that, Stacey helps remove energy blocks that are holding you back and does aura cleanses. It's her absolute passion in life to remind people that we are so much more than our physical bodies. We are love and light at the core of our being and the more we remember this and let go, the better the experience we will have here on earth. About Releasing Expectations & Societal Pressure Releasing all the expectations and pressures you feel on a daily basis is liberating. Not only do you rid yourself of society’s expectations, but you also give yourself space and permission to discover your unique gifts. When you’re not solely focusing on all the pressures you feel all the time, you create the space you need to elevate. We’re always so focused on being busy, all the time, and tend to fall into escapist tendencies. I’m so pleased to release this episode with spiritual healer and channeller, Stacey Anderson. Stacey and I have channelled guidance to help women release these societal pressures and embrace the divine gifts we all have access to. We both know what it’s like to feel scared of this elevation. We’ve both felt dark and lonely, especially on the journey to spiritual awakening. What’s held us both through this is the connections and community we’ve made along the ascension. It’s okay to be afraid, but we want you to know that it’s also okay to release that fear. You have full permission to journey from your mind into your heart space and embrace all the love, guidance, and gifts the Universe has in store for you. During the free three-day soul activation, you’ll receive channelled guidance from myself and Stacey inside a Facebook group container. A combination of aura cleanses, womb healing, and soul activation will help you release the pressure and activate your divine gifts. Are you truly who you are? What untapped divine potential do you have residing in you? How have you released the layers and baggage you’re carrying? How would the world be blessed? Let me know in the comments, lovely! In This Episode What The Release is and who it’s for [6:30] What happens when you release societal pressures 11:00] Why you should embrace your unique divine gifts [18:00] How to release the fear and embrace who you actually are [20:00] The journey from the mind into the heart [21:30] What to expect in The Release [23:30] Quotes “Our intention behind creating The Release is really to help women release the societal pressures that they feel. Also, release the expectations that we place upon ourselves.” [6:51] “The only way that we were able to get to this place and do this thing was by releasing the expectation of what our life was supposed to look like.” [9:58] “We try so hard to be the same as everybody when actually we’re not. None of our experiences are the same. Whether you’re in the same room, it’s how you see it as well. Everybody is different and it’s such a beautiful thing that’s to be embraced. Everybody’s uniqueness, wildness, craziness, whatever you want to call it, it’s all to be embraced. We hold on to all these expectations of who we’re meant to be. How about we just stop doing that and embrace who we are.” [17:38] Resources Mentioned Sign up for The Release: A 3-Day Soul Activation (https://sarahjflynn.com/release) Follow Stacey Anderson on Instagram (https://instagram.com/staceyanderson111) Join The Soul Savvy Collective Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/soulsavvytribe) Find Sarah Flynn Online (https://sarahjflynn.com/) Follow Sarah Flynn on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/sarahxflynn/) | Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/sarahflynncoaching) | YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1vmQ8rg-xfhHBLvqJ8qzcA) If you liked this episode, please check out some others: Episode 29: Channelling Higher Dimensional Beings With Stacey Anderson (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-29-channelling-higher-dimensional-beings-with-stacey-anderson/) Episode 27: Overcoming Fears Around Spiritual Expansion (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-27-overcoming-fears-around-spiritual-expansion/) Episode 41: How to Trust the Universe & Your Highest Soul Path (https://sarahjflynn.com/episode-41-how-to-trust-the-universe-your-highest-soul-path/) Special Guest: Stacey Anderson.

Getting the opportunity to talk to Higher Dimensional Beings sounds like it would only be available in your dreams. My client and friend, Stacey Anderson, has an incredible gift where she does just that. She joins me today to talk about her spiritual awakening and what it’s like channelling these Higher Divine Beings. About Stacey Anderson Stacey Anderson is a spiritual healer and channeller. She is blessed to have the ability to receive messages and guidance from various beings in the spirit world. I speak light language which speaks to your soul and raises your vibration. Not only that, Stacey helps remove energy blocks that are holding you back and does aura cleanses. It's her absolute passion in life to remind people that we are so much more than our physical bodies. We are love and light at the core of our being and the more we remember this and let go, the better the experience we will have here on earth. About Channelling Higher Dimensional Beings Stacey has a very unique and wonderful gift. She can channel Higher Dimensional Beings, meaning these powerful entities and spiritual guides use her body as a vessel and actually speak through her. Stacey explains what it feels like when one of these Higher Powers is using her this way. I’ve personally had experiences with Stacey channelling for me and honestly, it is lifechanging. The connection I feel to the Divine after our sessions and the clarity I have are incredible. Stacey shares how some of her other clients have felt after one of these experiences with her. For Stacey, going through a spiritual awakening was not an easy process. In fact, she almost thought she was losing her mind! So if you’re feeling this way, Stacey wants to urge you to keep pushing through this awakening to see the blessings on the other side. And that you are definitely not crazy. Stacey shares what it was like for her to go through her spiritual awakening. Everyone’s experience is a bit different and your powers might manifest in completely different ways. But Stacey encourages you to embrace whatever gifts come your way, as these are your soul’s purpose. My mum recently had a session with Stacey as well and said it so perfectly; she was trapped in the feeling of being comfortable with her fear. One of the aspects that Stacey helped my mum through was actually healing her fears and cutting cords, two places that my mum was tightly holding onto her fear. It’s amazing how quickly you can begin to heal when you start speaking with Higher Dimensional Beings. Stacey and I both share our own experiences. Stacey also explains how she moved through her own fear about her gifts and learned to embrace them. How much do you resonate with what Stacey has to say? Moving past fear and embracing our gifts is so powerful! Let me know in the comments, lovely! In This Episode What it feels like when a Higher Power uses your body as a vessel [11:00] How you might feel when you experience someone channelling a Higher Being [12:50] Why you need to keep going when you have a spiritual awakening [16:30] How you might start to connect with the Divine and your higher purpose [18:00] How you can become used to the feeling of fear [24:00] How quickly you can heal when you work with Higher Dimensional Beings [27:00] Why you shouldn’t be afraid of your spiritual gifts [32:30] Quotes “When you discover more about yourself, you start to see the world differently. You discover things about the world differently. You start to think that there’s more to this world, there has to be.” [6:55] “I didn’t think I really knew how to be spiritual. I wondered if I could only speak to certain people, did I need to start wearing hippie clothes? I had no idea what it was like to be spiritual. I had to learn that. You can still be yourself. You can still be human. You can still have this thing going on with you.”[14:23] “Please don’t give your power away to anybody, even these Higher Dimensional Beings. You are the power. You are the Being. They are in awe of us, at the end of the day. Don’t give your power and be seeking all of the answers outward. The beauty and the power is within.” [29:35] “I wanted to say that your guides will never give you anything that you’re not ready for, so please don’t worry about it. I’m telling you, if I can navigate through this, anybody can navigate through anything. You are strong, so, so strong! People are so strong and so powerful. On this week's episode of Celebration Rock I invited Pitchfork senior editor (and now friend of the podcast) Stacey Anderson to discuss this month's most notable indie-rock albums. Our discussion began with Pinegrove, who's latest album Skylight is an affecting alt-country-leaning album that's a worthy follow-up to the band's 2016 breakout Cardinal. But much of the discussion of this band — or conspicuous lack of discussion — stems from the charges of sexual coercion levied against frontman Evan Stephens Hall that prompted Hall to voluntarily push back the album's release and reschedule tour dates. Stacey and I explored whether it's possible to set that baggage aside when listening to the music — or whether it's even right to do that.  In the second half of the episode, we talked about two of the most reliable legacy artists in indie rock. Chan Marshall, who has put out records since the mid-'90s as Cat Power, returned in early October with her first album in six years, Wanderer, which ranks among her very best. As for Kurt Vile, he's been putting out consistently strong albums on a regular basis for a decade now. While his latest Bottle It In doesn't radically reinvent his formula of languid and meditative guitar jams, it suggests that his craftsmanship and lyrical insight are only growing richer with time.  Finally, Stacey and I share some recent recommendations: Robyn's pop confessional Honey for her, and Colter Wall's country throwback Songs of the Plains for me.
