In this episode I'm joined by The Demon Disorder director, writer, producer and special effects artist, Steve Boyle. The Demon Disorder follows brothers Jake (played by Dirk Hunter) and Graham (played by Christian Willis). When their youngest brother is believed to be demonically possessed, the estranged brothers reunite to confront a dreadful family secret. Charles Cottier, John Noble and Tobie Webster co-star. In my opinion, The Demon Disorder features some of the best practical effects you'll see in a modern horror film. Working with some of the biggest names in film and television, Steve Boyle has built a reputation for world-class standards in Special FX Production within the industry. With over 30 years experience in Special FX, Steve's credits as a designer include; Fear Below, The Portable Door, Love and Monsters, Daybreakers, BAIT 3D, Mental, Predestination and Jungle to name a few. In this interview, Steve gives us a great insight into the making of The Demon Disorder while sharing stories from his long career in the industry including his friendship and creative partnership with Michael and Peter Spierig, his time working on Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, and his upcoming work on Kiah Roache Turner's highly anticipated shark horror, Beast of War. Anyway… Enjoy.

It's been awhile since we've seen Josh Hartnett star in a prominent movie, but after his prominent role in “Oppenheimer”, he's back and starring in “Trap.” This is the latest movie from M. Night Shyamalan, the famous director of “The Sixth Sense”, “Unbreakable” and “Signs.” In “Trap”, Hartnett plays Cooper, a Dad who's taking his daughter to a big concert for a mega-popular singer named Lady Raven. Once he gets into the concert, he notices a massive police and FBI presence. Cooper later finds out that the concert has been set as an elaborate trap to catch a serial killer called “The Butcher.” Now he's really stressed, and if you watch the trailers or the movie, you'll know why. Also, there's a FBI profiler there to describe all the moves The Butcher will make to try to get out of the trap and what law enforcement should then do. All the while, Cooper has to be a good Dad and enjoy the concert with his daughter, who is excited to be there for Lady Raven. As the movie goes on, the trap gets tighter and tighter as law enforcement rules out more and more suspects and closes in. Will The Butcher be caught? How many will die in the process? Is it worth even seeing this movie to find out? Check out this episode to see if it is worth seeing. “Trap” also stars Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Shyamalan, Alison Pill, Hayley Mills, Jonathan Langdon, Mark Bacolcol, Marnie McPhail, Kid Cudi, Russ, Marcia Bennett, Vanessa Smythe, M. Night Shyamalan, Lochlan Miller, Steve Boyle, David D'Lancy Wilson, James Gomez and Nadine Hyatt. Hello Earthlings! For this week's episode, we're starting our summer schedule where we'll be posting a rerun of a relevant episode every other week. We're starting our summer schedule off with a very timely episode we did with Steve Boyle of Rubicon Carbon back in 2023. Once again, carbon credits are back in the hot seat after The Biden Administration issued recommended guidelines for increased participation and credibility within the credits system. Listen to learn about the complicated puzzle that is the carbon credits industry and how their biggest problems still persist today. If you follow this industry, you know the ability of companies to purchase carbon credits to offset their emissions can be as complicated as a Rubik's Cube. Steve walks us through the industry's reputational challenges, Verra's carbon credits scandal, and the differences between nature-based solutions and industrial-based solutions. Steve and Lisa Ann also discuss how Rubicon Carbon is changing the industry to make it easier for corporations to verify and trust the carbon offsets they are purchasing. In Restoring Our Faith in Humanity- we have the privilege of spotlighting journalist Fathi Mohamed Ahmed, who, in 2022, pioneered Somalia's inaugural all-women newsroom, Bilan Media. Despite confronting pervasive prejudice, this remarkable news team fearlessly tackles previously taboo social topics, such as puberty, the female drug epidemic, and the lives of women living with HIV. Fathi and her dedicated news team exemplify extraordinary courage, and we wholeheartedly commend their endeavors. This is the fourth episode in our series on carbon emissions. Traveling up to Nashville today to chat with consummate guitarist and songwriter Bill Lloyd of the 80's country rock duo Foster and Lloyd. Still enjoying the songwriting/session work in Music City, Bill discusses his early start into the music business with MTM (yup, the late Mary Tyler Moore's music company); meeting up with Texan Radney Foster to form Foster and Lloyd, songwriting credits with Beth Nielsen Chapman, session work with The Kinks, Carl Perkins, Ringo Starr and Cheap Trick, to his current work with The Long Players. He also talks about his new CD 'Look Into It', along with a nod to Nashville's video genius Steve Boyle (of Skid Media and 'Return to Comboland' fame) for his cool 'film noir' contribution for the CD; plus Bill's past work as curator for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and all about that special 20th Anniversary gig with the oh so popular group The Long Players. Steve Boyle and Webb Wilder join us to present a project that has been in the works for decades and will emerge this year, we hope, on a radio near you! In the 1980s, Steve and Webb began working on a neo-noir detective series, riffing on the anti-commercial commercials that they produced for Hard Rock Cafe back in the day. It came from Nashville, first in the form of a proposed TV series, then a script, then a book, then an audiobook, and now a full-fledged radio show. One of my fave places for original rock music is in North Carolina, and today I'm in the studio with Jamie Hoover of The Spongetones! Jamie talks about the band's musical start in Charlotte (complete with the jangle pop riffs and their Beatlesque vocal style); to his current work in Nashville with Bill Lloyd (of Foster and Lloyd) and the rest of The Long Players. We also discuss nearly every reason why he loves the band XTC; The Spongetones getting that initial press from Rolling Stone magazine for albums Beat Music and Torn Apart; those days of touring with The Kinks and later with The Smithereens and Hootie & the Blowfish; and who really named his studio 'Hooverama'. It's a rock and roll cover story you don't want to miss!
Lee Boyle, Steve Boyle, Seth Walker, Meghan Lawson, Nick Sukosd, and Mindy Boyle discuss Ohio, music (including Honest Noise and Fuzz Aldrin), religion, cooking, and Gus, the groundhog.

Starting a business in Sacramento has become easier with entrepreneurs having access to multiple programs and resources. Building and scaling that business is still hard. In addition to raising capital, which is a challenge, founders also need support in finding customers and building operational capacity. In this episode, I am joined by Steve Boyle, Founder, and CEO of Essential Aero, and Rick Spencer, VP of HaneyBiz and co-developer of The Sacramento Growth Factory (SGF). We explore how Essential Aero has benefited from SGF, and how the experience is different from other business-building efforts Steve has had in Sacramento. We also dive into why Sacramento is so well-positioned to be a great testbed for companies like Essential Aero, especially in establishing a Center of Excellence for aviation safety, operations, and developing infrastructure for Urban Air Mobility. If you are an entrepreneur, investor, or a corporate or government leader, join me for this episode as we explore how we can win together by creating an economic engine for our community.

He stops by the studio to talk about the legendary musicians from one of his earliest video making venues - Raleigh, NC. Steve, who makes a living making very cool videos for rock stars, sits down and talks up everything from new music from Raleigh music makers Jack Cornell, Gardners of Soule, The Spongetones and The OAK Team; to the Georgia Satellites and their ties to the Raleigh music scene; to making music videos for Garth Brooks. Steve describes how he is making videos during the pandemic, including his recent work with country music singer-songwriter Radney Foster.

It's a love story, with an all banjo soundtrack. Hollywood would never buy the pitch. But it's better that it's real life. Béla Fleck is the most famous banjo player of his time, a searcher who's played and preserved traditional bluegrass while innovating on his instrument in jazz fusion and classical concert music, among many other things. Abigail Washburn, with great suddenness, embraced Appalachian old time banjo and folk singing, becoming one of the most revered traditional artists of her generation. These two esteemed but very different artists found one another fascinating and then captivating. Now they're touring with their young son and releasing duo music that sounds like nothing that's ever come before it. Old time, bluegrass and the post-bluegrass fusion styles innovated by Béla Fleck all exist today in roots music side by side. But on their two albums as a duo, Béla and Abby fuse and mesh their vivid instrumental voices in sometimes uncanny ways. The new project is titled Echo In The Valley. Also, a visit to the video studio of Steve Boyle, who got the job restoring the historic Jimmy Dean Show, a major national platform for country music between 1963 and 1966.

Steve Boyle of 241 Sports is not only a believer in multi-sport development, he has created a way for kids to sample many sports through 2-4-1 Sports. What led Steve to this decision? Well, he and his wife had both played many sports growing up, but the push might have come from a conversation with the potential soccer coach for his nine year old daughter. The coach was dismayed that she could not commit to playing only soccer AT AGE NINE! Steve and I go into more details about what 2-4-1 Sports does and the philosophy behind it. We discuss a program I love, the 241 Mile Challenge. If you want to reach Steve, the 241 Sports Website is a great place to start. You can follow him on Twitter (@241Sports).

The problem becomes when we focus too much on the value of the win as opposed to the value of the experience.' Coaching your own Kids HUGE IDEA #1 Talk about the elephant in the room - Don't work too hard to treat your own kid as a coach - it's good to be truthful and authentic in front of the team and treat your own kid from a parenting point of view sometimes. Don't be over the top - but kids enjoy and learn from watching you enjoy spending time with your child. My Cringe & ‘Ah-Ha' Moments Steve shares a great story about his team having to help rescue a man from the river - and how he fainted afterwards. Teaching Children & Keeping it Fun Teaching is 85% about relationships. Connect with the kid first - then you just need to stay one step ahead of them regarding the technical skill teaching. Consider the cross-over effect. Know what sports kids have played then use their knowledge from the other sport to teach. Make all drills competitive - they are not fun if they are not. Self-Confidence and teaching kids to achieve peak performance Visualization - Your mindset is a choice. 'Look at everything as an opportunity to enjoy the moment and have no regrets.' Culture - Creating a Winning Attitude Discipline - First impressions are really important. Don't have a policy that says 'you can only miss 2 practices' - that sets up the expectation that it is OK to miss 2 practices. Coach doesn't expect to have any discipline issues, so predominantly - he doesn't. It's not allowed. Coach Boyle doesn't use running as a punishment - that doesn't mean they don't run gassers- but if they do it's because they need to be in great shape. Rewards - Coach starts every practice in a circle - and he shares about his day, and they share about their day. This allows everyone to get a pulse for where everyone's mentality is that day. HUGE IDEA #2 Coach asks every kid to write him a letter after each season - evaluating their experience on the team, and his performance. He reads and keeps them all and uses the feedback to improve Connecting with Kids Influence the influencers. One of Steve's former players is now a Major in the army - and he wrote to Steve telling him that many of the leadership skills he uses with his men in the army are skills he learned from watching how Steve coached. Winning HUGE IDEA #3 Sports games are not fun without a winner and a loser. But if you hear 'it's too competitive, it's not fun' - but the 'too competitive' part co...
