Historia de The Cure. "The Head on the Door" (1985) y "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" (1987):La banda comenzó a explorar sonidos más accesibles y comerciales. Con temas como "Lovesong" y "Pictures of You", logró combinar profundidad emocional y éxito comercial. "Songs of a Lost World" (2024). Legado de The Cure.

15:44 Thursday's Child 32:34 Something in the air 45:03 Survive 53:42 If I'm dreaming my life 1:03:06 Seven 1:15:22 What's really happening? 1:27:27 The pretty things are going to hell 1:37:31 New angels of promise 1:48:50 Brilliant adventure 1:56:15 The dreamers
Då valde The Wheel of Bowie ”Earthling” från 1997. 17:06 Little Wonder 35:05 Looking for satellites 45:52 Battle for Britain (The Letter) 53:16 Seven years in Tibet 1:12:54 Dead man walking 1:24:19 Telling lies 1:34:00 The last thing you should do 1:42:38 I'm afraid of Americans 1:54:39 Law (Earthlings on fire) EXTRASPÅR 2:01:09 Planet of dreams
Héctor Gerónimo nos presta ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' de David Bowie. On episode 21 of Past Prime, Steve and Matty put on their dayglo, double-breasted suits and grab their headless guitars to fully absorb the proto-Alt noise of Tin Machine "II," the second album from David Bowie's alleged band of equals. Alongside Staten Island everyman, Reeves Gabrels, and two of Soupy Sales kiddos, the once Thin White Duke maintained he was just one fourth of a middle-aged band that was obsessed with The Pixies, but who also might have predicted Grunge. Our co-hosts tackle everything from the album's de-phallused cover, to their one great hit, to the contributions of drummer, Hunt Sales, who liked to perform in his underwear and who wrestled the mic away from Bowie for the album's most bombastic, least defensible moments. "II" (1991) was the band's final studio album. After a world tour that spawned a live album ("Oy Vey Baby"), Bowie married Iman, pulled Gabrels aside and said farewell to the Sales brothers. Though for years he insisted that Tin Machine would return, it never came to be. They survive primarily as the butt of jokes about middle-aged rock star missteps and as an awkward transition from Bowie's dry period to his less dry turn towards Trent Reznor. "II" is not available on most streaming services. It wants to be forgotten, but our co-hosts won't let that happen because middle age comes for everyone -- even Ziggy Stardust. To read more about Tin Machine's "II" check out the full essay at Past Prime.

Acoustic Guitarist Mark Kroos is a phenomenal musician, and a great example for men to follow "Mark Kroos is one of the most intelligent musical forces of the new guitar generation." - Randall Williams In this conversation with Mark Kroos on the Manlihood ManCast, we talk about his music, the challenges of life on the road, overcoming adversity, and more. Double-Neck Guitarist Mark Kroos plays an Ovation guitar with two necks at the same time. His shows are energetic, magnetic, and Mark's personality is as welcoming as his playing is spectacular. In 2011, Mark competed in Guitar Player Magazine's International Guitar Superstar Competition in Nashville for host Larry Carlton and renowned judges Muriel Anderson, Reeves Gabrels and Carl Verheyen, taking 1st place out of 5 invited competitors and thousands of others who had submitted online. Facing hardship “like a man” In this episode of the Manlihood ManCast, one of the things that Mark talks about is the things he learned when covid shut down his ability to tour with his music. That experience deeply affected the way he processes things as a man. I see a guy on the street, and I think, ‘that dude has his act together!' But I've had a lot of really great moments over the past few years and realizing that, nobody has their act together. It feels really freeing and incredible to see that. We try to appear hard, walking with our shoulder back, and chests out, and so much of this work over the past year has been about softening, and not taking myself so seriously. Because I really felt for a long time my guitar career was the most important thing in the world to me. Then I saw the world without my guitar career. The world was doing just fine. recorded 10/14/2021 with Robert Rabel Rob's favorite Video Game OSTs Pt1 Intro: 00:00 Overview and general impressions: 00:43 Playlist Breakdown: 34:42 Stuck Mojo digression: 1:24:03 Wrap up: 1:31:40 Rob sez: Why these specific games/tracks: ============== Special to me/nostalgia Tended to favor rhythmically interesting over atmospheric for Richard's benefit Just good tunes There are many other tracks from games that I love, but weren't as interesting to talk about or required specific experience because they're more mood builders/enhancers Why this is an especially difficult topic: ============== So much of what music does for a game comes from the context in which it is experienced. This means that without the visuals, control feel, sound effects, story, characters, etc that comprise a game, you're never going to get the full understanding of what the music "means" to the experience. Also: better to do a more personal retrospective or a more medium-representative one? I went with personal, since you can find any number of Best Gaming OSTs of the 90s/00s/10s out there, and they usually contain the same few games. Or stuff like Rock Band, Guitar Hero, or Grand Theft Auto which contain primarily or solely licensed music created outside the scope of the game. All of the music I've chosen for these lists was written specifically for these games, often in creative tandem. Very interested to see how these hit Richard's ear, because despite me still *believing* that I think it's all good music, I can't honestly say that I'm hearing it objectively. For instance, every track on here (to varying extents) calls to mind some part of the game it's from and even some tangentially related memories. He's back! Join me and Reeves Gabrels for more tales from the rock'n'roll frontline. It's not surprising that the calm, can-do polymath Reeves, who barrels from rock to roll in the blink of an eye, so appealed to David Bowie's need for a foil, friend and co-conspirator. It had been apparent from their first proper collaboration, the 1988 Reeves/La La La Human Steps performance in which Reeves oversaw a coruscating rendition of 1979's Look Back In Anger, at London's ICA. Explaining to Bowie what he wanted to do to the song, the guitarist said he wanted “the repeated forms of the buttresses going down the sides of the sculpture”. Bowie instantly clicked with him. And as Tin Machine I melded into Tin Machine II, the pair's creative sparks were flying. In this episode, we find Reeves still belongs very much in rock'n'roll as he talks Strats, Steinburgers, the Sales brothers, vibrators, eclairs, male pattern baldness and of course, DB. Along the way, via an abundance of entertaining Gabrelsian digressions, we revisit the making of Tin Machine II in Sydney, and the stories behind the otherworldly rhythms, tones and textures Reeves summoned to Bowie's songwriting whilst keeping that back-to-basics ethos live feel and how, despite the energy pouring into the project, the cracks in the machine began to appear… Subscribe and share albumtoalbum! We had the pleasure of interviewing Lizzie & The Makers over Zoom video! “It's almost like when we wrote these songs they went through a David Lynch portal, they came out a little bizarre,” says frontwoman Lizzie Edwards on the creation of Lizzie & The Makers' sophomore album Dear Onda Wahl announced for release on November 5, 2021 [independently] and produced by acclaimed producers Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie, Tin Machine) and Mario J. McNulty (David Bowie, Prince). Infusing elements of art-rock, dream-pop, and a celestial atmosphere, Lizzie & The Makers has spawned something entirely their own. Ahead of this sophomore studio album announcement, Lizzie & The Makers had released two singles - the rootsy spellbinding ethereal tune “Mermaid” which American Songwriter called "an enchanting dip into bluesy synth-pop waters" and, more recently, the blues rock stomper "Lover By Proxy" which Glide Magazine highlights the “Led Zeppelin-esque bluesy guitar riff and Edwards' electrifyingly soulful vocals.”“Queens” & more. Elsewhere on the upcoming album, there's the sultry bluesy reverberation of "Magic River" for which Edwards penned the melody for after a post-Whitesnake listening binge. There's a grimy, hard hitting rock track ("Bottle"), which Edwards says is about “being a woman in the rock/blues genre and in music and the word in general", a bouncy rock love-hate letter (“Les Idiots”) to certain “characters” posing in her hometown, NYC's East Village, and a haunting and cathartic groovy, slow rock jam ("Waiting For The Teeth”) about healing. The curiously named title track "Dear Onda Wahl" is a play on words that refers to a metaphorical letter she wrote to a mounted hunting trophy at the bar where she worked, i.e "Deer On The Wall", "Dear Onda Wall." A funky number that was written during a slow workday behind the bar, Edwards gazed at the mounted deer head asking it for love advice: “Deer on the wall, what's the point of it all?" The forlorn tune "Tell Her” is a contrasting musical companion of sorts to the more playful "Lover By Proxy” that highlights Edwards heartfelt, nuanced vocal tone, influenced by Memphis soul legend Ann Peebles, Heart's Wilson sisters, Alison Mosshart of The Kills and Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee. The haunting, seven-minute closing track “Mojo Hand” is soaked in McMullen's borderline sci-fi sonic sorcery and Edwards' enunciated occultic metaphors; producer Reeves Gabrels also contributed to the track, adding to the otherworldly vibe. Lizzie Edwards of Lizzie and The Makers is my guest. And we were having a really fun talk when we were interrupted by an uninvited guest. We were talking about music literally being in her DNA, how she had created and booked a blues festival, featuring her band, when everyone but Lizzie decided to quit two weeks before the show. That led to meeting Greg McMullen and the formation of Lizzie and The Makers. They've been going strong for ten years now and have a new album coming out in September. Lizzie describes it as a love letter to David Lynch. I don't know about you guys, but that's enough for me to be interested. There's a lot of great stories here, like playing in a cover band with a bunch of lawyers and her dad, getting Reeves Gabrels involved in the new album, and having Tik Tok performance anxiety. Follow the band @lizzieandthemakers on social media. Order the new album at lizzieandthemakers.com. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on social media. Merch is available at performanceanx.threadless.com. We happily accept a cup of coffee at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. So buckle up and pay attention, because this one comes full circle. With a Summer NAMM 2021 in the books that had only one third the size of previous years, we discuss the future of guitar shows. Andy just recently returned from a well-growing guitar show in Italy with a bag full of videos and Dan considers Winter NAMM a business essential for him, so there's ample room for a turbulent discussion. We also discuss whether the new Epiphone Slash signature line is dull or good fan-service, what plug-in can make your cheap acoustic sound like an expensive sixstring, and why Reeves Gabrels might have one of the coolest signature axes out there with his new Reverend Dirtbike Royale. Enjoy this last episode, it's time to say goodbye … until season 3!

This week Darren has a great interview with the supremely talented and awesome singer/songwriter Jonny Polonsky. Jonny talks about first seeing David Lee Roth and Van Halen on MTV when he was 8 years old, learning Van Halen songs on guitar, Dave as a cultural influence, pursuing passions, the rock & roll lifestyle that used to be versus today, and much more. Born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in suburban Wilmette, Illinois, Jonny Polonsky began writing, recording and self-releasing homemade cassettes as a teenager. Filled with smart rock and pop melodies, these cassettes landed in the hands of influential artists he admired, like Reeves Gabrels, Zander Schloss and Frank Black, who helped Jonny do a demo tape and find a manager. Soon the tapes got him a deal with Rick Rubin's American Records, and his debut album "Hi My Name Is Jonny" was released in 1995. Subsequent albums and musical projects included Jonny working with the Brad Wilk and Tim Comerford (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave), Maynard James Keen from Tool, including joining Keen's side project Puscifer. As a studio musician he's appeared on albums by Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, The Dixie Chicks, and Pete Yorn. His latest album "Power and Greed and Money and Sex and Death" was released in 2020, recorded during the COVID-19 lockdown in his aparment. For more info visit JonnyPolonsky.com.

In the last of this three-part podcast episode, Eddie “Leeway” Sutton and Doc Ock talk about the iconic David Bowie. A lot is covered in this episode from the great musicians he played with like Reeves Gabrels and Mick Ronson to the "artistic" image he brought to music, when a lot of the bands from back in the day, as Eddie recalls, "were sloppy looking dudes." Eddie and Doc somehow change course a few times in this episode, as they first begin to discuss death metal/black metal, Thor, Manowar and The Mentors, before bringing it back to David Bowie. If that was not enough, Eddie and Doc bring up Dave Mustaine, Megadeth, Paul Baloff, and Exodus. At the end of this wide-ranging conversation, they both agree that certain musical movements and genres may not have existed if it wasn't for David Bowie. Listen in to find out which ones they are talking about! Welcome to episode 10 of The Guitar Speak Podcast! This week we speak to ex-pat Aussie, Daniel Steinhardt who runs The Gig Rig in Swindon, UK. The Gig Rig creates state of the art effects switching equipment that has been used by Andy Timmons, Steve Vai, Guthrie Govan, Ed O'Brien, Al DiMeola and Reeves Gabrels - to name just a handful. Dan is becoming increasingly hands on in building his customers pedal boards. Daniel is an excellent guitarist in his own right and plays with former XTC guitarist, Dave Gregory in the band Tin Spirits. Daniel also co-hosts That Pedal Show with Mick Taylor, a YouTube pedal show that has around 30K subscribers tuning in each week...not bad!
There are an awful lot of guitar players in the known universe. Indeed, part of the instrument's popularity can be attributed to its accessibility. Pick up a pawn shop six-string, learn a few hackneyed chords, throw a few words together, dime out your amp and you're fronting a band in a matter of months. Even some of the most well known performers possess not much more than a remedial understanding of the guitar's capabilities. But some guitarists devote their lives to this enigmatic instrument and they not only master it, but they keep pushing boundaries as far as what it is capable of doing. Scrote is just that sort of gifted guitar player. He's based in Los Angeles, but he has toured the world and worked with artists like Jackson Browne, No Doubt, Benmont Tench, Reeves Gabrels, Van Dyke Parks and myriad others. Scrote is a searcher, playing multiple styles of music in different ensembles as well as producing albums and working as a musical director for tours and other projects. One of his current bands is called Double Bari Sax Attack!, and it sounds just as you might imagine it might - avant garde guitar, high energy vocals, driving drums and a pair of guttural baritone saxophones that play rhythmic and melodic figures as well as wailing solos. And if that's not enough badassery for you, Scrote sometimes scalesup the lineup to a Quadruple Bari Sax Attack!
