As we continue our search for a permanent home in Connecticut, MSYH.FM is hosting monthly studio recording sessions in New Haven, CT. These sessions are taking place at The Sandbox, courtesy of the Greater New Haven Art Council. As a part of our monthly DJ showcase we will be highlighting our station's local resident DJs and hosts as well as guest DJ sets from some of the state's most talented selectors. This month we are featuring Koob. From the artist: Coming from Danbury, CT, DJ Koob is a up and coming talent focused on seamlessly blending the genres he loves. DJing has been a way for him to share that love of music with the world. Since a child hearing tracks like Percolator and Gypsy woman he's always known that he's loved dance music and to dance. Now his goal is to get you dancing to his mixes or at his live sets. Whether it's house, techno, or hip hop he's bound to bring a mix that gets you ready to move. Drawing inspiration from hard hitting DJs such as Dazegxd, Gum.mp3 and Mall Grab you never will know what's coming next. It can be a classic house track one minute then a hard-hitting techno track the next. Koob has constantly evolved his sound in ways to connect to his ever changing audience. The conversation emphasizes the importance of passion, persistence, and the value of tangible music experiences in a streaming-dominated world.Who Is Dr Dubplate: Be it viral moments during DJ sets or breaking down barriers for the new generation with his label ec2a, Dr Dubplate and the UK's new underground run closely alongside one another. Dr Dubplate's entry into dance music came as a teenager. Heavily influenced by his father – then manager of London institution Plastic People – he grew up absorbing Afrobeat, Rare Groove, House and Funk. Working the cloakroom on Thursday nights at Plastic People he was exposed to residencies and performances from some of the most esteemed artists – Theo Parrish, Four Tet and Floating Points to name a few- which paved the way for an education in and appreciation of UK Sound system and club culture. Dr Dubplate's DJ stripes were earned in Bristol, as promoter and resident for party series Piff where he played alongside artists such as Mall Grab, DJ Seinfeld and Hodge. In 2020 he established ec2a – a more personal project referencing his inspiration and upbringing. Emerging during the height of the new UK Garage scene, Yanis's debut as Dr Dubplate soon followed. With label and DJ projects running side by side, a following quickly formed, leading to bookings up and down the country when clubs re-opened, and a breakthrough year in 2021. A memorable headline B2B set with Interplanetary Criminal for Keep Hush, at their sold out summer festival, catapulted him into the eyes and ears of post-pandemic clubbers as did an ec2a Fabric RM3 takeover later that year. LA-based Canadian artist Jessy Lanza has brought dance and pop music together and elevated both art forms in the process. At the heart of her work are her own sensual vocals. They bring human warmth and emotion to vibrant and uptempo grooves and result in music that is both energetic and accessible yet personal and honest. Next to critically acclaimed studio albums for Hyperdub, she has made a fine entry into the DJ-kicks mix series and toured solo from Asia to Australia. Europe to North America. Her latest album is her broadcast and boldest yet - Love Hallucination features work from producers such as Pearson Sound, Jacques Greene, Tensnake, Paul White, and Jeremy Greenspan and conforms Lanza to be out in a class of her own. Lanza brings her feel-good vibes to the podcast series this week, not least with a couple of her own exclusive new cuts as well as one mysterious known gem early on. They add up to a perfect representation of her sound - the first half is a feel-good mix of retro-future boogie, glossy 80s r&b, party-starting funk bombs and many more irresistible moments of pure heat from Brenda and The Big Dudes, Debbe and The Code and Gino Soccio. DJ, producer and label owner LB aka LABAT is an avid record collector and he uses them to craft music of his own with his MPC's and other vintage gear. He signed with Mall Grab's well respected label «Steel City Dance Discs» in 2020, and is about to release a second project on the imprint in 2022. At the beginning of 2021 LB aka LABAT toured around Europe with a brand new analogue live show which featured 3 x MPC's and lots of big 303 acid bass lines. A new adventure is starting for him this year with the launch of his own imprint Poumpet Records which will see him challenge himself to release a track every month for a whole year.
