Carrie and Big's affair zooms along at warp speed, so fast, in fact, that we wonder if they had just made it another couple dates without being caught, would this have just kind of wrapped itself up? Samantha is worried about getting her first AIDS test, and Miranda has some “light banter” with a sandwich that would definitely have gotten the dude cancelled in today's society. It's the season finale, Valentines Day Spectacular, with your pals, Mike and Bill. Mike started out with his reading and it was appropriately about love. We used to love things that were bad for us, but now we have learned to be loving, rather than look for love. It's a weird concept for many of us, but we had a good talk about it.We have a guest coming up next week and he has a book that we will talk about with him. It was also featured on The Sober Curator. Then it was how many f*cks, truck driving, Dr. Sarah and another podcast, a book review, Demi Moore, scissoring, The Gulf of whatever and an article about bad drivers. On a sad note, a buddy of ours from Cleveland died this week. He was one of us, and he is leaving behind the hurt and pain that is expected when we don't do the work that we need to do.Enjoy the episode. When the adults in your life are this reckless and dangerous, what do you do? Today we meet Rex Ogle and we're talking about the book that saved his life: Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs.Rex Ogle is an award-winning author and the writer of nearly a hundred children's books, comics, graphic novels, and memoirs—most notably Free Lunch, which won the ALA/YALSA award for Excellence in Non-Fiction. He has written under several pseudonyms, including Trey King and Honest Lee, but is currently focused on reimagining classic literature as modern or fantastical graphic novels as REY TERCIERO, under which he penned bestselling Meg, Jo, Beth, & Amy, as well as Northranger, nominated for both a Harvey and GLAAD Media Award.Running with Scissors is the true story of a boy whose mother (a poet with delusions of Anne Sexton) gave him away to be raised by her psychiatrist, a dead-ringer for Santa and a lunatic in the bargain. Suddenly, at age twelve, Augusten Burroughs found himself living in a dilapidated Victorian in perfect squalor. The doctor's bizarre family, a few patients, and a pedophile living in the backyard shed completed the tableau. Here, there were no rules, there was no school. The Christmas tree stayed up until summer, and Valium was eaten like Pez. And when things got dull, there was always the vintage electroshock therapy machine under the stairs.Connect with Rexwebsite: rexogle.cominstagram: @thirdrexsubstack: substack.com/@thirdrexOur BookshopVisit our Bookshop for new releases, current bestsellers, banned books, critically acclaimed LGBTQ books, or peruse the books featured on our podcasts: bookshop.org/shop/thisqueerbookTo purchase Running With Scissors visit: https://bookshop.org/a/82376/9780312422271To purchase Free Lunch visit: https://bookshop.org/a/82376/9781324016946Become an Associate Producer!Become an Associate Producer of our podcast through a $20/month sponsorship on Patreon! In Episode #185 of The XS Noize Podcast, host Mark Millar speaks to Northern Irish Songstress Janet Devlin. Janet Devlin recently returned with her powerful new country-rock single, ‘Emotional Rodeo.' Later this year, she will release her latest album, bearing the same name. Facing her battles with Borderline Personality Disorder and bipolar disorder, Janet captures the essence of what it's like to love fiercely and fearlessly despite the challenges that come with it. Emotional Rodeo is a reflection of the soaring highs and plunging lows of living - and loving - with BPD, and she hopes it resonates with listeners who may be facing similar struggles. Since her early beginnings as a standout performer on the UK X Factor at 16, Devlin has gone on to do so much more. Her debut album, Running With Scissors, heralded a defining moment, wherein she sculpted her singular artistic identity with finesse. Her most recent album, Confessional, served as a deeply personal narrative as she poured her heart out, transforming her struggles into a captivating folk-pop odyssey that resonated with audiences worldwide. In addition to her musical endeavours, Devlin's compelling journey was captured in the 2022 BBC documentary Janet Devlin: Young, Female, and Addicted. The programme explored her own story of alcoholism and its effects on her life and others around her while exploring the stories of other young women suffering from the consequences of alcohol addiction in Northern Ireland. In this interview, Janet discusses Emotional Rodeo, appearing on the X Factor, her documentary, new music, touring with Russell Crowe, and more. It's Sex and the City Season 3 ep 11 with Chelsea Devantez and Mary Holland! Recent tragedies always remind us how vulnerable we are and often how much risk is acceptable and how much danger can be avoided. In this podcast, based on the July edition of the New York Space Business Roundtable, during a time when commercial, civil and government-related space activities are popping-up like flowers, we put the financial and ethical lenses on the issue of risk, reward and motive. Our guests include: Grant Cates, Sr Project Leader, Space Architecture Dept., The Aerospace Corporation Juan Cacace, Head of Global Market Access, Access Partnership Josef Koller, Systems Director for the Center for Space Policy and Strategy, The Aerospace Corporation And in this podcast, we asked them: How much protection do explorers and innovators need? How much assurance does a wealthy person paying to take a dangerous risk need? What is an ethical risk in a system predicated on innovation, adventure, danger and profit? Are people duped into unsafe situations today because of outright greed and negligence?

We bring the 2nd Unit back to dip our toes into Development Hell once again...kind of! As a pseudo-sequel of our Superman Lives episodes, we dig into the history of what was supposed to be Justice League: Mortal, the short-lived but fascinating first attempt at the superhero team-up. Directed by George Miller, written by Kieran and Michelle Mulroney, and starring a surprisingly young cast including Armie Hammer, Common, and Jay Baruchel, this goofy comic-book-accurate project met insurmountable obstacles on the way to production. We break down the full cast and story of this project (thanks in large part to cast interviews, articles from Collider, and the great work of the Canceled Movie Report podcast), go over a brief history of the Justice League, and explore the biggest reasons for this film's collapse: the Australian government and the 2007-2008 Writers' Guild of America strike. We marvel at the gambit of casting such young actors for such iconic adult roles, give a brief lesson on rabies symptoms, hypothesize future advancements in villainous tracking technology, have a fun discussion on currency conversion rates and tax credits, subject you to some truly awful Batman voices, remind you that Jack is still trying to track down a VHS copy of Nukie to torture Joe with, bring awareness to the pitfalls of bad acronyms/initialisms, Jack plugs his latest creative project, and we ask a question we've been wondering for some time: do the members of the Justice League all share a tailor? Suit up, settle into the Brother Eye console, and enjoy the show. For those of us born between the late 70s and the early 80s, we were probably the perfect age for Weird Al's 10th studio album, Running With Scissors, to penetrate our minds and lay the foundation for a lifelong memory of its lyrical genius. With parodies, style parodies, and some original songs, Al continued to wow his fans and even gain many new ones with hits like A Saga Begins making its way into the mainstream pop culture scene. Although 1999 was a "different time", we think everyone will enjoy this hilarious, incredibly clever, and quite weird album that Veronica brings to us in this episode of Album Maunder!
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times as Sam and Chris take on the ending of the affair. Samantha begins to take her sexual health more seriously, Miranda contemplates a sandwich, and Carrie is acting up. But mostly they are just excited for the introduction of Anthony! Listen in as we discuss all the tracks and tell some funtales along the way. Like how my dad has a “theme song” when he walksinto a restaurant. Or random Weird Al singalongs. Weird Al is on his UNFORTUNATE Return of the Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour and we thought it would be a good time to talk about the prince of spoof himself, Weird Al Yankovic, and one of his finest works, 1999's "Running with Scissors". From the infamously prophetic song/music video for "The Saga Begins," accurately describing the plot of Star Wars: Episode I (from just the trailer and some internet leaks) to the epic conclusion and fan favorite, "Albuquerque" where Al and his band fully shine, this album is full of the weirdest aliest songs you could hear. AND we brought in an EXPERT on all things Weird Al, Lauren from the Beer'd Al Podcast, in which they drink beer... and discuss Weird Al!!! In this episode, we talk all about editing — working with critique partners, how we approach different stages of editing, the techniques we used in editing Nightbirds and The Isles of the Gods, and how we know when we're done. Make sure to sign up for the Pub Dates newsletter that publishes each time a new episode drops. It's full of images of the things we discuss, plus behind-the-scenes snippets and a comment section where you can join in on the fun. With more interest rate rises expected, what impact does that have on people who rely on their savings? Life Matters brings you an archival interview from 2003 with author Augusten Burroughs after the release of his controversial memoir, Running with Scissors, and bow legs, pigeon toes and flat feet. Are they a threat to your long term health and mobility?

In this week's show, Shawn and Andy talk about how Shawn is working Technology into him now being a new parent. We cover some of the recent news from Wyze and address a question from one of the TechtalkRadio listeners wanting to know the story behind Wyze Cam V1. The Company just put out a new Wyze Air Purifier. Shawn says one of the keys is to ask other parents you know which technology works for them, As far as Baby Monitor, Shawn has the Infant Optics Baby Monitor. Shawn gets the opportunity to upgrade his Graphics card to the very hard to find 30 Series Nvidia Graphics based Card. Shawn tells us about the jump from a 1050 to a 3060 Series at around $350. Andy recently purchased a Samsung Odyssey CRG9 Monitor to replace his two 27-inch monitors on his desktop. The Experience unfortunately wasn't the greatest after returning one of them then getting another also defective. Lots of Time and fuel spent he decided to give up and stick with the 2 27' monitors for now. Andy does like what he was able to experience in the look and desktop feel and more than likely will give it another shot. Coming out April 20th, Postal 4 - No Regerts will be available on Steam. The Creator of the original Postal, Running with Scissors is based in Tucson. Friend of the Show and the man behind Running with Scissors Vince Desi talked with Andy about the new Release, background of the game and Selectable voices with friends Rick Hunter and Corey Cruise and Jon St. John. Being an entrepreneur is the equivalent of running with scissors………in both hands. It can be fun, and exhilarating, with an element of danger that could cost you more than your eye with one wrong step. Every single entrepreneur has figured out that working a 9-5 is not the true path to wealth creation, and at some point, they do the one thing 95% of people are not willing to do………bet on themselves. Today's guest is one of those people who broke free from a corporate structure and is currently putting an industry on its back. Dennis Morales is founder and CEO of The Drink Labs based out of L.A., California. He currently helps companies create every type of beverage from coffee drinks, energy drinks, to alcoholic beverages with their unique branding. They handle the research and development, manufacturing, and sales and distribution based on the way modern-day consumers purchase. Jeff and Dennis dive into why Dennis is addicted to winning as he cites his early childhood, competition in athletics, and his affinity for math. Dennis comes from a very healthy childhood that led to a natural progression of attending college, getting a degree and making his way to work for corporate structures like 3M. There he spent many years in Research and Development creating solutions to man's modern day challenges around energy, pain, hormones and everything that would result in products produced from some of the most effective solutions to come out of human ingenuity and pharmacology. Jeff gets straight into asking Dennis about how fulfilled he was working for companies like 3M where he shares how having a great salary, benefits, and 401K were not enough to keep him strapped to a 9-5. Dennis shares the one thing that made him break for something new, something fresh, and something that would create abundance in his life not found in a 9-5 corporate job. What You'll Learn: What made Dennis decide to break from 3M Where Dennis was raised The specific focus Dennis participated in while at 3M 3 Phases of the Beverage industry Why Research and Development are so important in the initial stages of any product launch Regulations surrounding manufacturing of products made for human consumption How distribution has changed since the advent of the Covid laced world Worldwide solutions found in nature such as roots, leaves, plants, and tree bark The power of networking and why Dennis enjoys being in the room with other high-performance individuals Why betting on yourself is one of the best things you can do starting today And much more! Favorite Quote: “I like being around like-minded people. I didn't know there were people out there that kinda thought the way that I did. They just have this gut feeling that there's something, not necessarily bigger and better, but there was something more fulfilling to them than just your typical 9-5. In Pharmaceuticals, it was neve 9-5. It was always 12 to 16 to 18 hours a day just because of the nature of research, but in finding people and meeting people that have similar drives, they all do the same thing as I do and they bet on themselves.” -Dennis Morales Connect With Dennis: 833-4-Drinks The Drink Labs How to Get Involved: Addicted to Winning connects listeners through stories that prove why mindset matters. Jeff Brekken was working a 60-hour week on his family's farm by the time he was 10. When he wasn't helping with the harvest, he was at the hockey rink. Jeff's early life experiences taught him he needs to be either all-in or all-out. In 2000 he started a single-family home construction business and by 2008 he was looking for his next big thing. Jeff founded the Blue Sky Benefit Solutions & Rise Above HR/Recruiting on top of a lifelong passion for helping people. Through this show, Jeff will take that passion one step further. In this episode of the Rock n Roll librarian, Shelley and Christian chat about Go-Go's bassist Kathy Valentine's story of what it took to find success and find herself, in ALL I EVER WANTED: A ROCK ‘n' ROLL MEMOIR. The Go-Go's became the first multi-platinum-selling, all-female band to play instruments themselves, write and perform their own songs, and have a number one album. For Valentine, the band's success was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream―but it's only part of her story.“Like a scorching guitar solo emerging from the prettiest pop song, Kathy Valentine's All I Ever Wanted blows away every other music memoir out there. It's the raw, real story of a Texas girl who raised herself and became a legend through sheer grit and talent, from raucous rocker to pop princess and back again. In prose that is powerful and relatable and unsentimental and funny and scary, Valentine takes readers from the depths of a dark childhood to the electric heights of superstardom. It's a stunning journey, masterfully told.” —Augusten Burroughs, author of Running With Scissors and Toil & TroubleThis show is part of Pantheon Podcasts.
On this episode I speak with Set Decorator / Production Designer Matthew Flood Ferguson. Matthew is currently nominated for an Emmy for his work on the Netflix series “Hollywood” for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Period or Fantasy Program. His career as a Set Decorator focused on films like "Running with Scissors", "Beautiful Creatures", "The Gift", "Battle of the Sexes" and more… but recently turning to a string of high end TV Dramas like "American Crime Story: Versace", and the upcoming "Ratched", he then moved to Production Designer for “Hollywood”. We talk about how we met on Versace, how he started his career in commercials, the ridiculous pace it takes to get a series like "Versace" and "Hollywood" made and if he'll be sticking to Production Design. I also gush about my love for the film "Running with Scissors" and make him talk about all the good stuff.
