Welcome true believers to X-Men Horoscopes where each week our host Lodro Rinzler is in conversation with a special guest to discuss the X-Men issue that aligns with a significant month and year from their life and what that issue reveals about their future. This week we are joined by Scott Koblish who has done just about every job imaginable in the comics industry, although fans of this podcast likely know him as the artist for Deadpool, X-Men '92 and those amazing 60th anniversary of the X-Men covers. We talk about the first comic he ever read - Uncanny X-Men 138 - which is a perfect onramp for anyone wanting to know about the 1960s/1970s X-Men. Also in this episode: Cyclops can fit his life inside a small laundry bag the funeral of Jean Grey! Cyclops longs to be as emotionless as Cerebro Colossus is necessary...for standing in the background or being in the foreground if you need to punch someone the classic moment where Cyclops convinces all of the Sentinels to go fight the sun Kitty Pryde shows up to the first day of school in a b*tch t-shirt What does any of this mean for Scott's future? Well, this episode is one part X-Men Horoscope, one part insider look at how the comics industry works. Tune in for more! Scott Koblish is an American Comic-book Artist who has worked on hundreds of comics for Marvel, Disney, Image, Dark Horse, Valiant, Boom and DC Comics. At Marvel, Scott worked on nearly every title they publish and just listing those titles would provide such a ridiculously long set of words that gazing upon it would make your eyes glaze over and your head hurt if he subjected you to it, but he had a 6-year run on Deadpool, where he co-created Deadpool 2099, so at least something he drew will likely outlive his heirs. At DC, he pencilled and inked Batman: Gotham Nights, DC: Primal Age, Titans: Giant, Aquaman: the Becoming, and Flash Annual 2024 and How To Draw DC, and worked with George Pérez as an inker on Wonder Woman, Worlds' Finest, The Brave And The Bold and Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds and inked Keith Giffen's OMAC run. He is also the author of the book The Many Deaths of Scott Koblish. More of Lodro Rinzler's work can be found here and here and you can follow the podcast on Instagram at xmenpanelsdaily where we post X-Men comic panels...daily. It's the penultimate episode of BAT MARCH season 2 and this week we're discussing the DC animated film Batman: Under The Red Hood. Is this the first time in 3 years and 200+ episodes that we have ever been on time to record? Are Jake's dark secrets darker than anyone else's? Does Jake F. Abraham Lincoln survive in another universe and disarm John Wilkes Booth? Are we slowly seeing Cody's mental health decline with each episode? Are the watering holes in West Virginia actually Lazarus Pits? Is Joker's voice agreeable in this movie? Who is our favorite Robin? Is Tim Drake the sleepiest baby of the Robins? Is there a correlation between how erect Jake is and how many Joe Pesci's he gives anything? Did DC ask the fans to vote to kill Jason Todd? Does Batman beat the shit out of Red Hood? Is Cody going to train his son to take Jake out? Is the Bat-Family too big?  Does all of Bat March focus on Robin in some capacity this time around? Is The Dark Knight Returns Robin the weakest of the Robins? Can criminals be reformed? Does Batman prove that once you commit a felony that's all you are? Does the O in OMAC stand for Orphan? Is Cody's sanity tied to the amount of magic in the world? Does John DiMaggio make a good Joker? Is Creed making a comeback? Does Red Hood's mask say MAGA on it? Would Bill Hader make a good live action Joker? Find out the answer to these questions and more on our third episode of Bat March! Jace chats with Dan Didio about his recently released YA novel Hide or Seek. After steering the DC line for nearly two decades, we can confidently say that Dan knows superhero stories. During his time at DC Dan wrote a number of series including Phantom Stranger, OMAC and Sideways and now he is bringing that writing talent to the YA space with an engrossing novel about a young man who discovers his father is the world's most famous hero. Unfortunately, he finds out because his father has been killed and he is forced to go into hiding with his mother. He's taken into the witness protection program, relocated to a small town called Crucible, populated not only with families of of his father's greatest super-villains.  What's worse instead of a safe haven, Nick discovers Crucible is a prison designed to contain and train the powers he's developing.   Forced to remain in Crucible by the shadowy creatures called Mirror Men, who guard its border, Nick attempts to discover the extent of his powers and figure out who to trust amongst the eclectic band of kids he meets in town.   Steeped in high stakes mystery, inventive superpowers, and friendship, Hide or Seek, captures the tone and excitement of great young adult series, like Percy Jackson and is perfect for dedicated comic fans and lovers of young adult science fiction and fantasy alike.   For nearly twenty years, Dan DiDio has served DC Comics. We bring the 2nd Unit back to dip our toes into Development Hell once again...kind of! As a pseudo-sequel of our Superman Lives episodes, we dig into the history of what was supposed to be Justice League: Mortal, the short-lived but fascinating first attempt at the superhero team-up. Directed by George Miller, written by Kieran and Michelle Mulroney, and starring a surprisingly young cast including Armie Hammer, Common, and Jay Baruchel, this goofy comic-book-accurate project met insurmountable obstacles on the way to production. We break down the full cast and story of this project (thanks in large part to cast interviews, articles from Collider, and the great work of the Canceled Movie Report podcast), go over a brief history of the Justice League, and explore the biggest reasons for this film's collapse: the Australian government and the 2007-2008 Writers' Guild of America strike. We marvel at the gambit of casting such young actors for such iconic adult roles, give a brief lesson on rabies symptoms, hypothesize future advancements in villainous tracking technology, have a fun discussion on currency conversion rates and tax credits, subject you to some truly awful Batman voices, remind you that Jack is still trying to track down a VHS copy of Nukie to torture Joe with, bring awareness to the pitfalls of bad acronyms/initialisms, Jack plugs his latest creative project, and we ask a question we've been wondering for some time: do the members of the Justice League all share a tailor? Suit up, settle into the Brother Eye console, and enjoy the show. Two days after Christmas 2022 Ed and Producer Bill try to determine “The Greatest Future For DC Movies”. What starts as a good faith attempt to extol the virtues of Black Adam (c'mon there's…a couple) turns into our speculation over what James Gunn will do with DC and in turn what we would do. In the spirit of giving we literally throw those enterprising Warner Bros execs some pretty decent principles for putting this disparate universe back together so that it can truly compete with Da Mouse Gang over at Disney. What would we do with Martian Manhunter, The Creeper, OMAC, The Question and many more? How would Ed fix the screenplay to Black Adam? Listen up, let the speculation flow over you as we show we are truly good at this and it's only a matter of time before we get our shot at some of these characters.    Follow us!  For this podcast's Season Finale, Dean Haspiel (The Red Hook, American Splendor, Cuba: My Revolution) and I discuss Jack Kirby's O.M.A.C. One Man Army Corps.  A highlight of this podcast for me has been being prompted to read a bunch of DC comics that Kirby made in the 70's, and this is no exception.  We discuss the finer points of the series, the ten-million-ideas-per-page approach it takes, the unusual choice of inkers, how abruptly the whole thing ends upon cancelation, and the very direct influence this series had on Dean's work.  All this plus Dean tells us how to draw the Thing.  Here's a link to The Runs Comics Podcast on iTunes.  And here's the link to the show on Spotify.
