Flight Crash In NY From The WTC Attack to Other Disasters. Special Episode. When the world thinks of catastrophic events in New York City, two significant tragedies come to mind: the World Trade Center (WTC) attack on September 11, 2001, and the devastating crash of TWA Flight 800 in 1996. These disasters, marked by unimaginable loss and sorrow, remain etched in the memories of those who lived through them and those who responded to the aftermath. Stacey Goodman, a retired Suffolk County, New York, Police Officer, is our guest on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast. The podcast episode is available for free on our website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. She witnessed both of these harrowing events firsthand. With a background as a Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team (DMORT) specialist for the Federal Government, Goodman was no stranger to tragedy. Her first experience in disaster response was the TWA Flight 800 crash, a tragedy that took the lives of all 230 passengers aboard. Years later, her training and federal security clearance led her to Ground Zero, where she worked tirelessly on the Pile for 23 days following the WTC attack. Flight Crash In NY From The WTC Attack to Other Disasters. Follow the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Newsbreak, Medium and most all social media platforms In an exclusive conversation, Goodman shared, “The weight of these experiences is something you carry with you forever. Working in the heart of such devastation, recovering human remains, and facing the unimaginable grief of victims' families is something that stays with you.” Look for supporting stories about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium, Newsbreak and Blogspot. Her book, The Dust Never Settles, chronicles her experiences and the lasting impact of her service. Goodman describes the challenges of confronting conspiracy theories that often emerge from these events. “There will always be people who question what happened, who suggest alternative narratives. For me, I know what I saw, what I touched, and what I felt. That reality is indisputable,” she shared. Follow the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Newsbreak, Medium and most all social media platforms The TWA Flight 800 crash, a tragedy that unfolded off the coast of Long Island, was initially suspected to be a terrorist attack. After a lengthy investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the FBI, the official cause was determined to be an explosion of flammable fuel vapors due to a short circuit. Despite the findings, conspiracy theories still linger, fueled by misinformation and conspiracy theorists. Many of whom spread their message across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). Flight Crash In NY From The WTC Attack to Other Disasters. The interview is available as a free podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and podcast website, also available on platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and most major podcast outlets. On September 11, 2001, the narrative of terrorism was tragically evident. The attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, along with the crash of United Airlines Flight 93, left an indelible scar on the nation. The collapse of the Twin Towers killed 2,753 people, while the Pentagon attack claimed 184 lives and Flight 93’s crash in Pennsylvania took the lives of 40 passengers. For Goodman, the aftermath of 9/11 was a grueling journey. “Working at Ground Zero was surreal,” she said. “We weren't just sifting through rubble—we were uncovering stories, lives, and the remnants of a tragedy that the world watched unfold in real-time.” Today, Goodman’s reflections resonate through her writing, public speaking, and podcast appearances on The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, available for free on their website, in addition to Apple Podcasts, Spotify and many others. Her mission is to share the unfiltered reality of disaster response, honoring the victims and the resilience of those who endured unimaginable loss. While platforms like LinkedIn may showcase her professional accomplishments, her story goes beyond the accolades. It is a testament to courage, sacrifice, and the resolve to face darkness while seeking light. In a world shaped by these tragedies, the voices of those like Stacey Goodman remind us of the lasting impact of loss and the strength required to carry its weight. Her story, both sobering and inspiring, echoes the need to approach these events with empathy, understanding, and respect for the truth. Stephanie Beacham is without a doubt one of Britain's most talented, beautiful and well-known actresses. Despite becoming world famous and an icon of the 1980s due to her role as Sable Colby in the American soap operas Dynasty and The Colbys and going on to have starring roles in shows such as Sister Kate, Seaquest DSV, Beverly Hills 90210, and Bad Girls, Stephanie Beacham had already carved a solid acting career back in her home country. Born in Hertfordshire in southern England, one of the four children of an insurance executive and a housewife, Beacham began an interest in acting at a young age and studied mime at the respected and renowned school of Étienne Decroux in Paris before completing her studies at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. Guest roles on British television followed in the late 1960s such as The Saint and UFO, however Beacham's breakthrough was her starring role opposite Marlon Brando in the cult horror film The Nightcomers that brought her critical acclaim and widespread attention. She became a regular staple in British horror films for the remainder of the 1970s and early 1980s such as Dracula A.D. 1972, House of Mortal Sin, Schizo and Inseminoid, however she was still a commonly seen face on television, such as being given her own soap opera in Marked Personal as well as regular modelling work. It was in the 1980s however that Beacham's career became supercharged. She had starring roles in the acclaimed television series Tenko and Connie, the latter gaining particular interest in the US.Beacham moved to Hollywood in the mid-1980s and was given the role of Sable Colby in the ABC soap opera The Colbys, and then joined it's parent show Dynasty where she remained until the show's cancellation. Both shows made Beacham a household name on both sides of the Atlantic as the glamour-puss wife of Charlton Heston's character Jason and cousin of Joan Collins' Alexis, with the two regularly involved in a 'battle of the bitches' scenario. Following the cancellation of Dynasty, Beacham headlined the sitcom Sister Kate for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award, before going on to have main roles in Beverly Hills, 90210 as Iris McKay, Steven Spielberg's Seaquest DSV as Dr. Kristen Westphalen and Countess Bartholomew in Star Trek: The Next Generation as well as film roles opposite Christopher Plummer in Secrets and Anthony Hopkins in To Be The Best. Beacham maintained a regular presence on television and in theatre both in the US and the UK for the remainder of the 1990s until she played Phyllida Oswyn in the prison series Bad Girls, a role she would play until the show's end in 2006. She would later have parts in films such as Love and Other Disasters, Moving Target and Wild Oats and played Martha Fraser in Coronation Street. Her theatre credits are extensive and include roles in the West End and on Broadway. Most recently she completed UK tours as Judith Bliss in Hay Fever and Maria Callas in Masterclass. It is the role of Mrs Cheveley in Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband in 1998 that brought her to Australia and it is this production which reunites us both after a couple of decades to reminisce and catch up.The STAGES podcast is available to access and subscribe from Spotify and Apple podcasts. On this episode, we hear some good Chez Panisse stories, and we talk about Cal's move to the East Coast. We also discuss his cookbook career—and his interpretation of that “figs on a plate” incident from a few years back. Also on the show we have a fascinating conversation with Nasim Alikhani, the chef and cookbook author behind Brooklyn's mega-popular Iranian restaurant, Sofreh. We bring the 2nd Unit back to dip our toes into Development Hell once again...kind of! As a pseudo-sequel of our Superman Lives episodes, we dig into the history of what was supposed to be Justice League: Mortal, the short-lived but fascinating first attempt at the superhero team-up. Directed by George Miller, written by Kieran and Michelle Mulroney, and starring a surprisingly young cast including Armie Hammer, Common, and Jay Baruchel, this goofy comic-book-accurate project met insurmountable obstacles on the way to production. We break down the full cast and story of this project (thanks in large part to cast interviews, articles from Collider, and the great work of the Canceled Movie Report podcast), go over a brief history of the Justice League, and explore the biggest reasons for this film's collapse: the Australian government and the 2007-2008 Writers' Guild of America strike. We marvel at the gambit of casting such young actors for such iconic adult roles, give a brief lesson on rabies symptoms, hypothesize future advancements in villainous tracking technology, have a fun discussion on currency conversion rates and tax credits, subject you to some truly awful Batman voices, remind you that Jack is still trying to track down a VHS copy of Nukie to torture Joe with, bring awareness to the pitfalls of bad acronyms/initialisms, Jack plugs his latest creative project, and we ask a question we've been wondering for some time: do the members of the Justice League all share a tailor? Suit up, settle into the Brother Eye console, and enjoy the show. We're getting into the Woo Woo Sh*t. If you asked Rachel Matlow, they'd say it's an emphasis on the SH*T. When I learned of their mom's passing, I was not into reading a book about it (who wants to read about dead moms!?) But I did…and as weird as it sounds, I was cracking up a few pages in. Dead Mom Walking gets into what happens when you receive a serious health diagnosis and instead of following doctor recommendations, scientific evidence, and proven treatment plans…you put your faith in woo-woo cures like herbs and mindset. Have you ever heard of cancer being cured by the power of positive thinking? If you ask Rachel, they will tell you no. absolutely. not. Rachel reflects on the beautiful relationship with their mom while sharing some dangerous realizations about "Woo Woo Culture". I talk about Woo Woo Sh*t a lot on the podcast (helloooo, see title). But there is a time, place, and approach to go about using that in a healthy, non-harming way.If you're skeptical of the woo, can empathize with Rachel about the passing of a parent, or even if you just want a comical read about death and life, check out their book, Dead Mom Walking: A Memoir of Miracle Cures and Other Disasters. What's Inside:—Can “Woo” actually be harmful?—Do things actually happen for a reason?—The power of belief…is it a cure-all?—Woo Vs Science in matters like health.—Rachel Matlow's story behind the best-selling book, Dead Mom WalkingWhat's your take on the woo? Is it a miracle cure-all or should you leave it to the docs?Let me know on Insta!Mentioned In This Episode:Rachel MatlowDead Mom Walking - Rachel MatlowOonagh Duncan

As some of our loyal listeners know, 2022 was the very first full year of Constructive Voices. And what a year it was! From Ireland to Australia, and from Brighton Beach to the United States of America, 2022 has been an amazing year thanks to the magnitude and diversity of our global guests. We have explored some big topics, such as climate change and sustainability, and how they relate to the built environment. With our expert guests, we have endeavoured to talk about the solutions and challenges to Net Zero and its related topics. While these have been huge discussion points for many years, the team at Constructive Voices and our collaborators, have been investigating these subjects in the arena of the built environment. We finished our first few months of existence of 2021 with an event that looked at the roadmap post COP26 with Victoria Kate Burrows, Director of Advancing Net Zero of the World Green Building Council. Along with a panel of distinguished guests. Little did any of us know that in the early part of 2022, that Russia would invade Ukraine, resulting in a war that has also changed the playing field when it comes to energy, in a number of countries.Depending on your perspective, this might have hindered the journey towards Net Zero or encouraged it to be accelerated. Not long before that, in the second episode of the year, we spoke to Gilbert Lennox King about how to measure and offset embodied carbon – a topic of huge relevance to all involved in the built environment. For our special for International Women's Day, we featured a small selection of leading lights, such as Farah Naz:"I think it starts from home. And it starts from very early age, high school is too late, we really as an industry should start going to primary and middle schools to actually having those conversations with the young children.I also think that our school system, our teachers also need support in having those conversations with their students.I strongly feel that as an industry, where we are working as architects, engineers, urban planners, we also have a role to play to support our teachers and our schools, to go and spend that time and really speak to them about the leadership that they can play.Especially, we are in the middle of a climate emergency. And all these professions have a very important role to play."Undoubtedly one of the big highlights of the year was FOOTPRINT+ which was our first live event as a media partner, in Brighton, UK.We spoke to many of these industry leaders live at the event and brought a number of insightful episodes to you after it. But the reality is that we have had so many defining moments during 2022.With the help of an amazing man, Richard, we produced an Addiction Special, which the experts feel has the potential to save lives. Be sure not to miss the Addiction Special. After COP27 we had an insightful panel session to look at the roadmap ahead for the built environment.PS: Did you know about the Rats and Other Disasters in the Palace of WestminsterBookmark Constructive Voices Episode 48.Constructive Voices: Inspiring change within the construction industry and related sectorsFollow Constructive Voices on:LinkedInTwitterFacebookRequest a media pack: jackie@constructive-voices.com

Summary: Lace up your aprons and preheat the oven to 350 degrees, friends! We're talking Cooking Competitions today. Holly and Devin unpack the way that a competitive atmosphere can turn up the heat on both romantic tension and animosity with two books that follow the same plot of filmed cooking competitions but land with completely different outcomes. They both agree that food adds two more senses to descriptions in books; instead of merely visual and auditory prompts, food descriptions add taste and smell to ensure the reader is immersed in the created world. Topics Discussed: The Heart (3:30): Devin discussed Love and Other Disasters by Anita Kelly, a novel centering around two contestants on the cooking show Chef's Special. Dahlia Woodson is a queer divorcée starting her life over again and hoping the competition will jumpstart her new direction. London Parker is an openly nonbinary, pansexual person out to show their haters and the world that they're more than their gender identity (and that their desserts are truly the best). Her key takeaways were: Our protagonists are just as easy to fall in love with as they were falling in love with each other; Dahlia is spunky, energetic, and has dark flowing hair that London can't help but gaze at. London is focused, reserved, and brave in a way that will inspire any reader. Chef's Special, which is similar to the real shows MasterChef or Top Chef, serves as a romantic catalyst by proximity but also to add tension and uncertainty to our burgeoning love story - at any point, either London or Dahlia can be sent home. There are trigger warnings for transphobia, homophobia, and misgendering. Devin also wants to add more for toe sucking and sex with foods because she hates being sticky. That being said, the sex in this book is fantastic. The Dagger (18:42): Holly discussed The Golden Spoon by Jessa Maxwell, a debut true crime novel that will be released on March 7, 2023. It opens on the gothic family estate of host and celebrity chef Betsy Martin, where the 10th season of the hit TV show Bake Week will be recording in the next 7 days. Betsy is faced with a massive thunderstorm on the property in chapter 1 and let's just say that things don't improve from there. Holly's key takeaways were: The baking show itself was reminiscent of The Great British Baking Show, and Holly thoroughly enjoyed the descriptions of food and baking throughout the novel, though it is eventually overtaken by the mystery at the core of the story. The book peeks behind the glossy curtain of these kinds of shows and digs into the night scenes, post-filming, where the cast dine and sleep together (including all the tensions and discomfort that involves) The POV alternates between all the characters, which can normally be tricky for the reader. Maxwell is able to execute such that it worked for this novel, and while Holly felt confused on a few occasions, overall felt it was the best choice based on the plot. Hot On the Shelf (34:57): Devin: Thistlefoot by GennaRose Nethercott Holly: Flight by Lynn Steger Strong What's Making Our Hearts Race (39:23): Devin: Snow skiing in Colorado Holly: Barbarian, a horror film Instagram: @heartsanddaggerspod Website: www.heartsanddaggerspod.com If you like what you hear, please tell your friends and rate and review us on Apple Podcasts and Spotify so that we can find our perfect audience.
This episode's guest is Rachel Matlow, a producer, audio content creator, and writer based in Canada. They created one of my favorite audio pieces ever, “Dead Mom Talking,” which won the Third Coast International Audio Festival Best New Artist award in 2016. I discovered the piece in 2021 and haven't stopped thinking and telling people about it since. As Rachel's mother was dying, Rachel recorded the two of them as they binge-watched TV, traded dark humor, and talked. That way, months after their mom's death, Rachel could sneak in one more conversation with the person they needed to hear from the most. In this episode, we talk about loving our mothers despite their decisions around medical care, how it's important to get your end of life AND after death party plans in order. We chat about Rachel's memoir Dead Mom Walking: A Memoir of Miracle Cures and Other Disasters, our mother's ashes, and you will get to hear the ultimate “exit interview” in the form of their mother's final words of wisdom, humor, and musings about their extraordinary child. Go buy Rachel's memoir Dead Mom Walking: A Memoir of Miracle Cures and Other Disasters, and check out the full CBC Radio “The Sunday Edition” feature here. Thanks for being here! This show isn't just about our moms, it's about us. Sign up for all the latest news around this podcast, and see behind the scenes content on our website. Elaine Mitchell came of age in the counterculture of second wave feminism. When she was diagnosed with likely curable rectal cancer at age 66, she decided to exclusively pursue alternative cures, instead of conventional medicine. Rachel, Elaine's kid, was 30 at the time, and they spent years trying to convince her to get surgery. But Elaine never wavered. Despite all their painful disagreements, Rachel became Elaine's primary caretaker as she was dying. Rachel and Elaine's dynamic never followed a typical mother-child script (if there is such a thing). Elaine modeled independence and self-reliance for Rachel, always letting Rachel make their own decisions – including when Rachel dropped out of high school to become a traveling hippie. Eventually, Rachel started working as a radio producer for the CBC. There, they created an award-winning audio piece called, “Dead Mom Talking,” which first aired on The Sunday Edition (and which is excerpted in our conversation). Rachel also released a memoir, Dead Mom Walking: A Memoir of Miracle Cures and Other Disasters, which was just published in the U.S.. In this episode, Rachel talks about the ways autonomy drove both of their lives, and about the humor at the heart of their relationship, even as they argued about Elaine's end of life choices. “Our relationship wasn't perfect,” Rachel says, “but it was great.”
