Unusual Deaths The history of unusual deaths is a fascinating, if sometimes macabre, collection of bizarre and unexpected demises that span centuries and cultures. These stories often highlight the unpredictable nature of life, the oddities of human behavior, and sometimes, the limits of scientific understanding. While many accounts are well-documented, others exist as legend or have been subject to modern re-evaluation.Deaths by Unforeseen Accidents and Objects:Aeschylus (c. 525/524 – c. 456/455 BC): The ancient Greek playwright is famously (and possibly apocryphally) said to have died when an eagle dropped a tortoise on his bald head, mistaking it for a rock to break the tortoise's shell. Ironically, he was said to have gone outside to avoid a prophecy about a falling object.Hans Staininger (16th Century): The burgomaster of Braunau am Inn, Austria, was known for his extraordinarily long beard (reportedly 4.5 feet or 1.4 meters). He died when he tripped over his own beard during a fire evacuation, breaking his neck. His beard is reportedly still preserved in a local museum.James Betts (1667): An English suitor who, while hidden in a wardrobe by his lover to avoid her father, became trapped and suffocated to death.Adolf Frederick, King of Sweden (1710–1771): This monarch is reported to have died from overeating. On February 12, 1771, after consuming a massive meal of lobster, caviar, sauerkraut, kippers, and 14 servings of his favorite dessert (semla, a sweet bun), he succumbed to digestive problems.Tycho Brahe (1546–1601): The eccentric Danish astronomer reportedly died from a burst bladder after refusing to leave a banquet to relieve himself, considering it impolite. Modern analysis of his remains in 2010 found no evidence of poison, supporting this theory.Clement Vallandigham (1871): A lawyer and politician who accidentally shot himself in court while demonstrating how a victim in a murder case might have shot himself. He was attempting to prove that the victim could have self-inflicted the fatal wound.Franz Reichelt (1912): Known as the "Flying Tailor," Reichelt was an Austrian-born French tailor who died testing his self-designed parachute from the Eiffel Tower. His invention failed, and he fell to his death.Roger Wallace (2002): A 60-year-old man who was flying his 5-foot wingspan remote-control plane when he lost sight of it in the sun. The plane struck him in the chest, killing him.Jose Luis Ochoa (2011): A man in California died after a cockerel (rooster) participating in an illegal cock-fighting match stabbed him in the leg with a knife that had been strapped to it for fighting.Brittanie Cecil (2002): A 13-year-old girl who died from injuries at an NHL game after being struck in the temple by a deflected hockey puck. She was the first and only fan fatality in the league's history.Chandler Hugh Jackson (2005): A 12-year-old boy who died after falling on his 9-iron golf club, which broke and pierced his aorta through his chest.Steve Irwin (2006): The "Crocodile Hunter" and Australian wildlife expert, died after a stingray's barb pierced his chest while he was filming in shallow water off the Great Barrier Reef.Deaths with Mysterious or Disputed Circumstances:Alexander the Great (356–323 BC): Died at the age of 32 after a two-week illness. Theories range from malaria, typhoid fever, or West Nile encephalitis, to even Guillain-Barré syndrome, which could have left him paralyzed and appearing dead before he truly was. His body reportedly showed no signs of decay for six days after his "death." and there's moreGrigori Rasputin (1869–1916):.Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849): The Somerton Man (1948):Elisa Lam (2013): The Dyatlov Pass Incident (1959):#UnusualDeaths, #StrangeDeaths, #BizarreDeaths ,#HistoricalMysteries ,#FatalFollies ,#DeathByDesign, #UnexplainedDeaths ,#MacabreHistory ,#OddDemises, #TrueCrimeStrangeCases, #WhenDeathGetsWeird, #HistoryFacts #CreepyButTrue,

The Best Tail For Balance | Bindi Irwin Wants Kids To Become ‘Wildlife Warriors'

The bone and joint structures in mammal tails help them keep their balance. Could those benefits be adapted for robots? And, in her first children's book, conservationist Bindi Irwin takes little readers on a journey through Australia Zoo.In Search Of The Best Tail For BalanceIf you have met a cat, you've probably at some point been amazed by how acrobatic they are. They're able to reorient themselves effortlessly, even in midair. It turns out that a lot of that twistiness comes down to having a top-tier tail. While most reptile tails can swing only in one plane of movement, mammal tails have more joints, leading to better inertial control. That lets mammals tweak their balance better, much as holding a balance pole can help an acrobat navigate a tightrope. In a recent study published in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface, researchers explored the biomechanics of different tails, and considered how a better tail could help build a better robot. Dr. Talia Moore, a roboticist at the University of Michigan, and Dr. Ceri Weber, a cellular and developmental biology postdoc at UC San Diego, join Host Flora Lichtman to talk tails.Bindi Irwin Encourages Kids To Become ‘Wildlife Warriors'Almost 30 years ago, conservationists Terri Irwin and the late Steve Irwin captured the world's attention with their show “The Crocodile Hunter.” It introduced millions of people to Australia Zoo and the strange, often scary, sometimes cute, critters from Down Under. Now, Terri and her children—Bindi and Robert—are at the helm of the zoo, which is the setting for Bindi's new children's book, You Are a Wildlife Warrior!: Saving Animals & the Planet. In it, Bindi takes little readers and her own daughter, Grace, on an adventure through the zoo.Host Flora Lichtman talks with Bindi about her family's legacy, how motherhood fuels her approach to conservation, and what it's like to run a zoo.Transcripts for each segment will be available after the show airs on sciencefriday.com. But that snake breaking contain was about the only thing eluding Clayton Smith's grasp, albeit briefly, during his time in Tempe. A former 5-star recruit, Smith spent his first two years at Oklahoma before transferring to Arizona State. He was quick to make his mark, putting together a strong showing in spring as a disruptive force off the edge, and his skills appear to be a perfect fit for the Sun Devils' aggressive new defense. And when he's not sacking quarterbacks, the reptile enthusiast is a Crocodile Hunter in training. In this fun episode, Clayton and I discuss his football journey, why ASU was the right place for him, the new defense, proving doubters wrong, setting his sights on Terrell Suggs, Texas BBQ, a hilarious prank he pulled on a snake-fearing teammate, and more.

We bring the 2nd Unit back to dip our toes into Development Hell once again...kind of! As a pseudo-sequel of our Superman Lives episodes, we dig into the history of what was supposed to be Justice League: Mortal, the short-lived but fascinating first attempt at the superhero team-up. Directed by George Miller, written by Kieran and Michelle Mulroney, and starring a surprisingly young cast including Armie Hammer, Common, and Jay Baruchel, this goofy comic-book-accurate project met insurmountable obstacles on the way to production. We break down the full cast and story of this project (thanks in large part to cast interviews, articles from Collider, and the great work of the Canceled Movie Report podcast), go over a brief history of the Justice League, and explore the biggest reasons for this film's collapse: the Australian government and the 2007-2008 Writers' Guild of America strike. We marvel at the gambit of casting such young actors for such iconic adult roles, give a brief lesson on rabies symptoms, hypothesize future advancements in villainous tracking technology, have a fun discussion on currency conversion rates and tax credits, subject you to some truly awful Batman voices, remind you that Jack is still trying to track down a VHS copy of Nukie to torture Joe with, bring awareness to the pitfalls of bad acronyms/initialisms, Jack plugs his latest creative project, and we ask a question we've been wondering for some time: do the members of the Justice League all share a tailor? Suit up, settle into the Brother Eye console, and enjoy the show. To kick off the Winter Bizarre, Danielle brings the 2002 movie It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie. Despite the absolute clunker of a title, this Muppet Christmas Movie does, indeed, contain many Muppets and their delightful antics. We open on a distraught Kermit killing the vibe at the Muppet Christmas party by lamenting that he's lost the theater; it's been repossessed by the bank. A celestial being of some kind named Daniel, or Danny El, (David Arquette) is watching Kermit's misery from heaven (or something) and at first tries to convince his coworker (William H. Macy) that they need to intervene with a miracle. Ol' Willy H. disagrees, and so Daniel goes straight to the person in charge: Whoopie Goldberg. Daniel explains what happened to Kermit in a flashback. Apparently, the previous owner of the bank died, leaving the evil Rachel (Joan Cusack) in charge. Rachel has decided to renege on the handshake agreement Kermit had with the previous bank owner to wait to collect on Kermit's bank loan for the Muppet Theater until after their first week of performances. Rachel is deciding to stick to the letter of the contract which requires payment by midnight Christmas Eve. At this point, Sam thinks he's identified the actual villain of the film: Kermit. The irresponsible frog somehow signed a contract on a bank loan with a term due before they could stage any shows at the theater, and which comes due at midnight (what?) on Christmas Eve (WHAT?!), and Sam cannot believe he then asks all his employees to forgo their salaries for a whole freaking year to cover his irresponsibility. Anyway, what follows is a smörgåsbord of guest stars and parodies of other Christmas movies and, for some reason, The Crocodile Hunter. So join us for this hilarious Muppet adventure that is most definitely bizarre and has Sam mumbling "Humbug" at Kermit.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Steve Irwin became an international phenomenon with his immensely popular TV show "The Crocodile Hunter," which showcased the wild Australian Outback where he grew up. The show also introduced the world to his signature and much-imitated catchphrase "Crikey," cementing his place in Pop Culture.  Irwin's red hot career was not without its missteps, however. In 2004, he seemingly dangled his baby over a hungry crocodile in front of a large crowd of spectators. Bad press followed, but he shook it off and survived. Then in 2006, there was chance encounter with a pissed-off stingray.  That he did not survive. So listen up, mate: grab yer Fosters, order a bloomin' onion and get ready for one 'ell of a story.Death in Entertainment is hosted by Kyle Ploof, Mark Mulkerron and Alejandro Dowling.New episodes every Wednesday!https://linktr.ee/deathinentertainment

Steve Irwin, better known as the Crocodile Hunter, was a wildlife enthusiast and conservationist, owner of the Australia zoo, and a TV icon loved all over the world. Known for his signature catchphrase, “Crikey!,”  and his classic khaki uniform, and a LOT of personality, Steve Irwin became a household name. A brand, actually. He also seemed like a huge nut to many. More akin to a reckless Circus Ringmaster than a dedicated conservationist.  But behind the fun and adventurous image full of manic enthusiasm, khaki shorts, and catch phrases, was an intelligent and driven man who was deeply passionate about wildlife conservation and had a sensitive and huge heart for all animals. Especially the ones feared by most of us. Steve was fascinated by wildlife from a young age. He was gifted a twelve-foot python at age six, caught his first crocodile at age nine, and spent his time exploring nature instead of playing games with his friends. Today we talk about his life, death, and legacy, the incredible biodiversity he fought to preserve, and so much more, on this RIPPER!
