In episode #91, Mel and Trish chat to anxiety coach Kim Adams about high functioning anxiety, extroverts, and introverts and why she believes finding your passion and purpose is over-rated.Kim spent 20 years working in law enforcement organisations and absolutely loved her job managing research and evaluation programs. She felt valued and a sense of belonging. When her job disappeared due to an organisational restructure, this outwardly confident, inwardly anxious girl found her world came crashing down.It led to a critical re-examining of who she was, what she was doing and where she was headed. Armed with a degree in psychology and a masters in management, Kim set herself on a path of spirituality and healing and is now focused on helping midlife women with high-functioning anxiety cultivate radical self-acceptance, release self-limiting beliefs and anxiety using a blend of psychology and grounded spirituality. It's not all serious though – Kim has a few fun facts up her sleeve including that one time, she volunteered to be tasered & a few adventures in Cuba.Enjoy the clarity and fascinating perspective of Kim Adams.Important links:Kim's WebsiteKim's Facebook Hosted on Acast. A twist in the case of the young boy tasered by police in Rotorua. Police say the 10-year-old came at an officer with a knife as they attempted to arrest another person during a family harm incident. Police Association President Chris Cahill says officers have to do a risk assessment in these situations. "When officers are confronted with these situations, they've got to go through a full risk assessment. And that involves looking at the threat and saying- what's this and what's the situation? Yesterday, like tens of millions of Americans, I saw the brutal police murder of 31-year-old Keenan Anderson, by the LAPD in broad daylight. Keenan, like so many Black men before him, was unarmed and non-violent. At most he needed medical attention. Instead, he was Tasered to death. And we continue to see this, with new names and faces, but the same story of police violence, because this country just barely tinkers with policing when the entire system would actually need to be completely overhauled in order for us to see something totally different. It can be done. But so far not even one single large American city is willing to drastically overhaul how policing is done there. And so we continue to be the only developed nation in the world that does this, day after day, year after year, to its citizens. Let me unpack and explain it all. On Sunday, September 27th of 2015 in Vaughan, Ontario a tragedy that would be completely avoidable and murderous, no matter how you look at it, occurred. A family was out for a drive, enjoying a beautiful day in the early fall in Southern Ontario. An entire family was torn apart in a moment because of the idiotic decision of one man. One man decided that he was ok to drive, even though he was not and he destroyed a family because of that decision and the reverberations of that decision. Surveillance footage reveals police assaulting an unarmed man on his own property. While the use of force in the video is shocking on its own, what is even more shocking is the fact that the state of Texas is currently threatening the victim with 10 years in prison. On this week's PAR, we take an in-depth look into the common practice of stacking charges to intimidate citizens into taking plea deals, as well as the lack of accountability for aggressive police tactics that violate people's civil rights. We also examine the possibility that police may have targeted the victim in question for previously posting a YouTube video that exposed excessive force.
