Crypto-Tuesday January 24, 2023 - Money serves three purposes: medium of exchange, preserving labor value over time and measuring goods and services across an economy. The promise of Crypto was to provide all three purposes. However, Cryptocurrency still needs acceptance from people in order to work as a medium of exchange like traditional currencies do. That's why the El Salvador move looked so encouraging. Using Crypto as a medium of exchange, rather than a store of value. That experiment hasn't worked…yet. Governments around the world have ratcheted up regulatory controls on Cryptocurrency. Our own Department of Justice proposed three regulatory and legislative priorities for combating cryptocurrency crime, including amending the anti-tip-off law for financial institutions to include digital assets, strengthening penalties and broadening the application of criminal laws governing operation of an unlicensed money transmitting business, and increasing limitations period to 10 years for all crimes that involve transfer of digital assets. The White House also committed additional priorities such as aggressive investigations by SEC Chair Gary Gensler, as the SEC battles with the Commodities Futures Trading Commission to be the regulatory king in the Crypto space. Hallelujah Time in Heaven But in today's passage we will see a bride that has had to wait much longer, and an even sweeter marriage ceremony to come. And this story involves each of us who are born again Christians and the saints of all time! Read Revelation 19:1-10 Hallelujah time in Heaven! Let's Pray! The Three Purposes of the Seven Year Tribulation: 1. Judge the satanic system that has filled the earth with sin 2. Re-gather a spiritual Israel that will be ready for Christ's rule on earth 3. Give everyone on earth several last chances to repent before it's too late Heaven says Hallelujah for the judgment of the evil world system V. 1-5 Hallelujah means praise the Lord. About 50 times in the Old Testament the word for praise, Halel, is followed by the word for Lord, Yahweh. Heaven puts the two together in Revelation 19 and we now have the one word Alleluia. What is Heaven praising God for in verses 1-2? Because salvation (deliverance), glory, honor and power belong to the Lord, as demonstrated by His righteous judgment of the Satanic world system that corrupted the earth, avenging the blood of all the saints she had killed. Heaven says Hallelujah for the commencement of Christ's earthly rule V. 6-10 The word for omnipotent in verse 6 is pantokrator – it means ruler of all! It occurs 10 times in the New Testament, 9 of which are in Revelation! What should we do in response to Christ's certain coming to physically reign? Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory! Anticipation of future joy can make our hearts glad now!
God's Wrath is Completed on Earth Today's passage reinforces something taught many times in the Bible: Earth as we've known it, degraded by sin, will cease to exist. But earth as it should have been, enlivened by God's presence, is coming! The Three Purposes of the Seven Year Tribulation: 1. Judge the satanic system that has filled the earth with sin 2. Re-gather a spiritual Israel that will be ready for Christ's rule on earth 3. Give everyone on earth several last chances to repent before it's too late You might want to picture the judgments of the seals, the trumpet, and the bowls as the bulldozer on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” that removes what should not be there before God makes earth Paradise again. Read Revelation 15-16 God's Wrath is Completed on Earth Let's Pray! Heaven Rejoices in Anticipation of the Bowls being Poured Out 15:1-8 This great and awesome sign goes with the two signs John had seen in chapter twelve. There he saw the great sign of God's protection and dealings with Israel. He also saw the sign of the havoc Satan would cause during the last three and a half years of the tribulation. During the days of the tribulation, many people will turn to Christ and then be killed for their faith. But far from being worse off, they'll be very much alive in Heaven with God! Interestingly, Heaven doesn't seem to struggle with God's righteous judgment the way we do down here with our sinfully divided hearts! I hope you understand that the supreme attribute of God is His holiness! Every other attribute of God, including His love, is to be understood in terms of His holiness. The only proper response to His holiness is to glorify Him! God's holiness will not allow sinners to go on defiling earth. Heaven is out of the question for those who won't repent. That only leaves Hell for them, a place that only had to be for the Devil and his demons (Matthew 25:41). The Bowl Judgments are Poured Out Chapter 16 Some believe these judgments will be spread out over the last three and a half years of the tribulation. We don't know! My guess is they happen in rapid succession, right at the very end of the tribulation, before Christ comes back. We are called in this age of grace to love the sinner but hate the sin. I'm afraid too many of us love the sinner AND love the sin. May it never be! The Euphrates is a key river in the Bible. When God told Abraham and later Moses the boundaries of the Promised Land, He had the Euphrates as the Eastern border, with Babylon being on the other side of it. Behold, the day of the Lord is coming…For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem…Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations… -Zechariah 14:1-3 For the day of the Lord upon all the nations is near; As you have done, it shall be done to you; your reprisal shall be upon your own head. -Obadiah 1:15 “The unifying factor in all these passages is that the coming in view results in a loss for those who are not ready.” -John Walvoord, Revelation, p 238 “Every sin will be pardoned by Christ or punished in Hell, but it will never be overlooked. Nobody's sin is ever overlooked. All sin is dealt with!” -Adrian Rogers, Unveiling the End Times in Our Times, p 185
Our liturgy for a wedding is based on the marriage solemnization found in the 1549 Book of Common Prayer. It lists these three purposes for marriage:First, marriage is given for the mutual society, help, and comfort that man and wife should have from the other, both in prosperity and adversity. Second, marriage is given for the procreation of children, to be brought up in the fear and nurture of the Lord, and to the praise of God. Third, marriage is instituted as a remedy against sin, and to avoid fornication, so that those who are married might live in the purity of marriage, and keep themselves undefiled as members of Christ's body.These purposes have been foundational to our understanding of Christian marriage in the West for many centuries, but they sound foreign to our modern ears. The Open Doors before the Redeemed! By open doors I mean divine opportunities that can be lost to us, or become a closed door, if we don't act on them in time. Read Revelation 3:7-13 The Open Doors before the Redeemed! Let's Pray! Things we know about Philadelphia: The Holy & True God who opens and closes doors V. 7 A Holy person reflects Heaven's values even when they are on earth! Jesus told him, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by Me.” -John 14:6 Jesus is saying the same thing He said to us at the Great Commission: “All authority in Heaven and Earth has been given to Me!” When God calls you to do something and opens the doors for you to do it, and you say, “not now,” most of those doors are closed by the time you feel ready. The Open Doors before the Redeemed! V. 8 “Despite the fact that you aren't much in and of yourselves, because you love Me and do what it says in the Bible, you are the kind of people I can use!” Seven indicators God is opening a door for you: There is a real opportunity to spread the gospel; Your heart is drawn to the opportunity; circumstances begin lining up to reinforce the opportunity; You feel the Holy Spirit pounding on your heart about it, not letting it go; Your Bible reading and prayer time reinforces pursuing the opportunity; As you take steps of obedience, you have God's peace even when obstacles emerge; Your most spiritual advisors don't see any serious red flags you are missing. “I will stay in Ephesus until Pentecost, because a wide door for effective ministry has opened for me.” -I Cor. 16:8-9 See also Col. 4:2-3; 2 Cor. 2:12 What doors are open to you? Open Doors do NOT mean there won't be opposition V. 9 In every generation there are those who bitterly oppose the gospel, and lash out against believers. Here we are told they will one day acknowledge that Jesus is real and loves His disciples. The Great Open Door Coming for ALL the Redeemed! V. 10-11 What is the hour of trial? I believe it is the Tribulation described in Revelation chapters 6-19. The Three Purposes of the Tribulation: 1. The beginning of God's Judgment on the Satanic World System 2. The revival of spiritual Israel to ready it for Christ's 1,000 year reign 3. An evangelistic harvest as the lost get their last chances to turn to Jesus The word “church” does not occur in Revelation 6-19. “Earth-dwellers” occurs throughout the tribulation and refers to those who need to repent and turn to Christ. Earth-dwellers appears here and in 6:10; 8:13; 11:10; 12:12; 13:8, 12, 14. Overcomers get two more things in the New Jerusalem: V. 12 First, they get the kind of security they didn't have in Philadelphia! Second, they will get the recognition they didn't have in Philadelphia! God is saying: When you overcome by your faith and make the most of open doors that I put before you, one day in the New Jerusalem people will be reading about you!
