After collapsing from exhaustion, Huffington began to question what true success really means in this age of hyperconnectivity. In her terms, success is more than the accumulation of money or power. It’s about the quality of our well-being. It’s about the wisdom and wonder that manifests in our lives as well as the contribution we make to others. Riiise and Shiiine!Hellur and HNY!The year is 2020 and I am now 93% made up of chocolate of mince pies. We've lost all sense of what day it is after Christmas and our sleep pattern is fooked which is why I decided that the first episode back after the festive break would be on sleep! It's not always possible, but a solid, restful nights sleep is just as important to our overall health as exercise and the food we eat. We've all heard tales of top business leaders sleeping 7 minutes a day and working all hours of the day as some sort of badge of honour but it's not a habit I admire (ooh get you Esther). I don't have a great sleep record as I work very early and don't go to bed when I should, something I want to change. Whatever the reason for not prioritising sleep (parenthood being a major one) a good nights sleep is what we should all strive for.I spoke to Erica Hargeden of Babog Sleep Solutions about why we need better sleep hygiene as well as how she ended up making her living as a sleep consultant. It sounds very L.A but business is booming for Erica so clearly there is a market for it.I also share how I have ended up with a penis toothbrush. Yes. This is my version of clickbait.Make sure you follow me on Instagram and Twitter for all the latest updates and incredible images from me. Today's podcast is a list of the top 20 business books, in my humble opinion. Whether you're currently an employee, running your own business, or have creative pursuits on the side, you'll find these books contain the missing pieces to getting down to it and doing your best work. In this Conversations With Healers episode, my guest is Sheila Botelho, a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, sustainable and cyclical self-healing enthusiast, mother and a compassionate guide for women who are looking to redefine their relationship with themselves and their health. Sheila and I touched upon: the cyclical nature of our healing needs, investing in our well-being before the menstruation phase, peri-menopause or menopause, or periods of loss hit us so that we have our wells full by the time cycles of life find us, the need for prioritizing self-healing and self-care during periods of grief, noticing how we feel and taking action on things and areas of our lives where we don't feel as well as we could, and being open to our paths changing and evolving as healers. Sheila and I mentioned these two books in our conversation: Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, and Wonder by Arianna Huffington, and The Female Brain by Louann Brizendine. My favorite healing nugget from Sheila is "I would think I had to go 90 miles an hour every single day, even the week before my cycle, even while my period was happening. The body is actually telling us: you know what you need to slow down, you can chill out, you can get extra rest, maybe you don't even need to work out today." You can find out more about Sheila and her work at her website and download her free gift 'Simplify Your Wellness Plan - 3 Steps to Streamline Your Self-Care". Listen to other episodes here. There is so much NOISE in this real estate investing world. But to be truly be successful in this business you need to create goals that work for YOU and stay true to these goals no matter what happens. On this week's episode, we have the pleasure of chatting with Carissa Swanwick from Cultivate RE. Her real estate investment philosophy “Invest in homes I can be proud of and tenants want to show off to their friends” guides her strategy and mindset. With Carissa's life-long interest in architecture, design, and construction, she had the goal of someday owning investment properties and making them great homes…when she retired. She believed that spending her time on her passion was a goal for the future; not something that she could do now while building a corporate career and raising a family. In 2014, she decided that "someday" needed to become "today" and decided to make her dreams a reality. Carissa decided that waiting for someday to pursue her passion is no way to go through life and so she began to learn about real estate investing and buying properties. Carissa works full time and manages to also grow her investment portfolio that consists of both single family and small multifamily properties. Carissa also has a wonderful blog called “Cultivate RE” where she shares all of her wins, learnings, and investing tips with other real estate investors. Today we’re going to learn how to sleep our way to the top with the Arianna Huffington, who has a new bestselling book out called, The Sleep Revolution: Transforming Your Life, One Night at a Time. After her own brush with exhaustion in 2007 running the Huffington Post, Arianna woke up in a pool of blood with a broken cheek bone. Why did this happen? She suspected she might have had a brain tumor. But eventually doctors explained it was due to exhaustion. Today, Arianna is on a mission to help all of us get a little more sleep each night to help improve our productivity and health and our bottom lines. In the interview we learn how more sleep has equated to a richer life for Arianna. We also learn how she responds to criticism that getting more sleep is a luxury some of us can’t afford. Lastly we talk about the financial lessons learned as a young girl growing up in Greece. Prior to The Sleep Revolution, Arianna authored Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, and Wonder, in which she makes a compelling argument that our society needs to redefine the meaning of success to mean more than increased salaries and corner offices.
