Jay Simmons is a student and a transgender teenager. I met Jay at a TEDx talk, where she delivered a – quite frankly – incredible talk aiming to address those misunderstandings. She said, “if you love transgender people, listen to this talk. If you hate transgender people, also listen to this talk.” Her motivation to do the TEDx talk and to speak with me on the podcast today, comes from a desire to help people understand and to give other transgender people a way to explain it to their families.6:30: Feeling different as a child, but not knowing what that was about. Jay explains that puberty felt like an out of body experience. She eventually found a website that suggested that this is how some transgender people feel. That didn't resonate - Jay thought she would have known if she was transgender, so it took a while for her to realise. When her voice dropped, that was when she really realised she didn't feel like herself as a boy. 10:25: What is: Trans-feminine Dissociation DepersonalisationWho is Jay Simmons?Jay is a 6th form student studying media, drama and computer science. A few years ago, she realised she was transgender and with that, also realised that there are a lot of ways that transgender people are misunderstood.Click the link to watch Jay's TEDx talk What does transgender mean anyway? Summary: In the last ten years there has been an explosion of confusion among adolescent children about their gender. Girls doubting their femininity are suffering. Boys uncertain about masculinity are unsure of themselves. Alarming statistics reveal that the more confused children are about their gender, the greater is their risk of suicide. What should Christian men do about this crisis? This episode uses God's command to us in 1 Corinthians 16:13 to answer that question. For Further Prayerful Thought: What do you see as the implications of God's command, “be watchful,” regarding our response to radical gender theory's influence in our day? What do you see as the implications of God's command, “stand firm in the faith” regarding our response to radical gender theory's influence in our day? What do you see as the implications of God's command, “act like men,” regarding our response to radical gender theory's influence in our day? What do you see as the implications of God's command, “be strong,” regarding our response to radical gender theory's influence in our day?Resources To Enable Men to BE WATCHFUL FREE YouTube Video Series, A Biblical Response to Gender Confusion and the Transgender Movement. A federal court in Texas has ordered a public library system to put back into circulation over a dozen books that were removed from the shelves. The books, which covered issues relating to LGBTQ+ and racism, had been pulled by the library. Library patrons sued, alleging that the books had been removed due to disagreement with their viewpoint. The patrons also claimed that the library had closed board meetings to the public and replaced its advisory board with community members who supported censorship. The judge granted the patrons' request for a preliminary injunction, which also stops the library from removing any more books while the lawsuit is pending. The case comes at a time of increasing school book bans. PEN America has documented nearly 2,532 school book bans affecting 1,648 titles from July 2021 to June 2022, with most of the challenged books addressing LGBTQ+ issues or systemic racism. The books in question include "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent" by Pulitzer winner Isabel Wilkerson and "Being Jazz: My Life as a (Transgender) Teen" by Jazz Jennings.Texas Library System Must Return Removed Books to CirculationJohnson & Johnson has agreed to pay $8.9bn to settle all the lawsuits relating to its talc-based powders causing cancer. The payment is aimed at settling claims from about 60,000 claimants, and the company has withdrawn its talc-based baby powder, Shower to Shower and other such products from the market. The world's largest healthcare products company hopes to fund a trust set up in US bankruptcy court in Trenton, New Jersey, to cover future claims. Monies in the settlement will be paid out over 25 years. Traces of asbestos have been blamed for causing ovarian cancer and mesothelioma, specifically tied to asbestos exposure. Women and men have been blaming the company for causing these diseases, and internal J&J documents dating back to the early 1970s show workers warning managers about traces of asbestos found in talc bottled for baby powder.J&J to Pay $8.9 Billion to Settle Talc-Cancer Lawsuits (2)The IRS will release its plan for spending its $80 billion in multiyear funds later this week, according to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel. The plan will focus on improving online interactions between taxpayers and the agency, shortening lengthy phone wait times, and providing in-person assistance to taxpayers. The IRS also plans to hire and train employees to audit returns of high-income taxpayers, large corporations, and partnerships. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's indictment of former President Donald Trump on hush money charges related to a 2016 election scandal brought few new details about the case. Bragg accused Trump of falsifying records in his real estate company's books to conceal reimbursing his personal lawyer Michael Cohen for a $130,000 hush money payment. The payment was made to a woman who alleged she had an affair with Trump. Although it is the first time a former US president has faced criminal charges, legal experts not involved with the case say its strength will likely depend on evidence that has not been made public. The indictment did not specify the crimes that were allegedly being concealed. Meanwhile, prosecutors detailed similar schemes Trump allegedly orchestrated to silence two other people who had damaging information about him in a separate filing. Experts said this could help Bragg's office demonstrate to a jury that Trump intended to commit a crime. Cohen, who testified before the grand jury that indicted the former president, has previously pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations for the Daniels payment, which could leave him open to attacks on his credibility by Trump's defense at trial.Analysis: Trump indictment on hush money charges brings few new facts | Reutershttps://law-and-politics.online/@Teri_Kanefield/110143334776123102The People of New York v. What would you do or say if your child or a child you care about came to you and asked for your support when they transition? It could happen and your response will be critical. And your next moves will also be very important for both of you. This week on this show, I have a conversation with “Christina Anne” about her journey with her child. She started a blog to share their experiences and she decided to turn the blog into a book to share with other parents to help them. The book is titled Our Transgender Journey. Feel free to join us – I learned some interesting things and look forward to sharing them with you.

The parents and children were active church members. They loved Jesus. They believed they were sinners saved by God's grace. They also believed what the Bible says about gender, that God made us Male and Female, that we are born into as one of those two sexes. So, it was a gut-wrenching surprise when their twelve-year-old daughter decided one day that she was a boy and wanted to be called the pronouns 'they/them'. What's a Christian family supposed to do? The secular world celebrates the transgender ideology. At school "Grace" (not her real name) became popular, something she wasn't before. But when she transitioned back to being a girl, there was only silence. On this episode of Lighthouse Faith podcast, journalist Sarah Zylstra talks about her article in "The Gospel Coalition" and her interview with the family about their long journey of walking with Grace through becoming a transgender boy, and then what they did, and didn't do, that made Grace transition back to being their daughter. As more and more families face this situation, Zylstra's words shed much needed light on the murky waters of "Rapid-onset Gender Dysphoria." For this family, it was faith that gave them the strength to obey God, rather than the world. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The topic of transgenderism is hitting home for many in different ways. How are we to respond? And what do we do if it affects our home personally? Increasingly, Christian pastors, youth pastors, and parents are fielding questions and declarations from young people examining their own gender or sexual orientation. On Friday’s Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra from the Gospel Coalition shares a story about a mom and a dad and a daughter named Grace (names changed), who walked this journey together.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Friendship and a great cast of characters, and not just action but also domestic things and hobbies and maybe some gentle humour. I would also love to find a book with a badass character such as the main protagonist of the Imperial Radch series by Ann Leckie. --Anna 2. Hello there! I have recently been picking up a few cozy mysteries and I'm finding that I really enjoy the idea of these murder mysteries where nothing truly terrible happens (aside from the murder). I was wondering though, do you have any recommendations for cozies that have younger protagonists? I picked up Death by Dumpling on Liberty's recommendation on her show, and really liked it! Bonus points if it's bookish! tldr; cozy mysteries with protags in their 20s or so? Thank you so much! I love the show! --Ashleigh 3. Hello, I am a photographer and will be traveling to Kuala Lumpur for a photo festival in October. I would love to find some good books based in Malaysia to read prior to and during my trip. I usually read fiction, but I love nonfiction as well; especially Bill Bryson-esque travel writing. I am not very picky about what I read, but would prefer something that isn't too much of a "love story". My favorites range from Harry Potter to The Martian to Fahrenheit 451, so fantasy/sci-fi/magical realism are definitely up my alley, but I love a good mystery or realistic drama also. I know Malaysia is a fairly small country, so I will also accept books based in Singapore, Thailand, or the other small Asian countries surrounding Malaysia, but Malaysia based books would be preferred. Thank you! --Sean 4. One of my favorite movies is Amélie. I was wondering if you two know of any similar books? I don't need or even necessarily want the book to have the same kind of plot, but I'm more interested in the atmospheric quirkiness that Amélie captures so perfectly. Bonus points of the books is in France because I'm a bit of a francophile, but location doesn't actually matter all that much to me. Thanks! --Anon 5. Hi, I'm a long time listener, first time question-asker. I regularly pause to download kindle samples or go ahead and buy the book :) I am looking for chapter books/longer pictures books to read to my 3 year old son. (I am part way through listening to the early kid recommendation episode.) My husband read the Hobbit aloud and when Toby asked for a reread he essentially wanted the scenes where they were eating dinner (ie less scary things). We recently read and enjoyed the Mrs Noodlekugel series, we read the Thomas and Friends original books/stories, and we are currently in our Cars phase. (we have not yet read the Princess in Black series). I have the Wild Robot from the library but am thinking of pre-reading some to see if that's right. He has a decent attention span but after the Hobbit I want to make sure we're more level appropriate. Thank you! --Rhiannon 6. Hello Ladies! Thank you so much for doing this podcast-l have read so many new books because of your recommendations. I'm looking for new books for my husband. He's enjoyed The Radium Girls by Kate Moore, Packing for Mars by Mary Roach, and various YA non-fiction titles like Red Bandana and books on Jack London. His reading time is limited so shorter books that aren't too dense would be ideal. He likes history, adventure, and booze. Any recs would be greatly appreciated. If you have time, my son is 9 and will only read graphic novels. He loves Doug TenNapel and Dav Pilkey. Any other age appropriate authors we could binge read? He's read Amulet and Bone and enjoyed both. Thank you so much for your time. I love your show and can't wait to hear what you come up with! --Michelle 7. Hello, I am looking for books, fiction or nonfiction, to learn more about the trans community and gender fluidity. I hope I'm not coming across as rude or offensive; I am just not trans or gender fluid myself, and so don't know much about either of these communities. Nonfiction explaining the science of the transition process or the ideas of gender would be great; I'd also be interested in a memoir of someone who has transitioned or experiences gender fluidity. I'm open for whatever fiction you'd suggest as well. Thanks! --Becca Books Discussed How Long Til Black Future Month? by N.K. “There are different kinds of fear. When you are terrified to do something out of your comfort zone, that is an indicator of growth.” Celebrity Auctiontainer and LGBTQ advocate, Letitia Frye, discusses her recent tragedy and how it drove her to go outside her comfort zone to dance with One n Ten at their upcoming event. Letitia is dancing in honor of a 17-year-old whose life ended way too soon. Letitia met her fiance, Mark Holland, in 2017. Frye and Holland each have two children, and she talks about their interesting first date and how one of Holland's initial concerns was her acceptance for his transgender son, Aksel. Frey says she knew, at that moment, he was the one for her. By the age of 17, and with the complete support of his family, Aksel had undergone gender transformation and was legally considered a male in the state of California. Frye explains the joy and passion that Aksel brought not only her life, but to everyone else who knew and loved him. Frye says Aksel always wanted to “right the wrongs in the world … he wanted to be a voice to the voiceless.” Then on April 10th, 2018, tragedy struck Letitia Frye's new blended family. Aksel, at the tender age of 17, had taken his own life. Frye shares the note Aksel left explaining the demons he struggled with. Even with the help he had received in the past, and the ongoing support of his family, the daily battles were too much. Aksel's note expressed love for his family and that his unhappiness was no one's fault, but that his life was just too difficult, too painful. Today, Letitia Frye strives to avoid the tragedy her family experienced with Aksel. She is very present in the LGBTQ community volunteering with One n Ten, and going ‘out of her comfort zone' participating in its ball room dancing event. “We are dancing for Aksel; we are dancing with a primary emphasis on support for transgender youth, but for One n Ten in general.” She explains that One n Ten is both a support system and leadership development organization designed to help our LGBTQ youth, ages 10 through age 25, through education, mental health, and the arts. They have the largest gay camp for youth located in Prescott, Arizona. ‘This organization is a base where all youth can come and participate in support groups if they are struggling with, or know someone who is struggling with, figuring out his or her sexuality. One n Ten is about being celebratory of our similarities,” Frye says. Letitia Frye wants people to hear Aksel's story and not to judge. She goes on to say, “I think the one thing I'd hope, for anyone who comes across a child or youth that's different in any capacity, please don't judge … if you do know that they are transgender, or perhaps have had a situation where they've decided that they have different identity, either sexually or just how they feel as a human being, be in acceptance of that because that key word in there is, ‘human being' … the world needs more Aksels.” The post Transgender Teen Takes His Own Life: Letitia Frye Dances In His Honor appeared first on Inspired Media 360 TV - Inform | Inspire | Engage.
