We are in the middle of our break, but we didn't want to leave you with nothing in the feed, so this week, we've got something special for you! If you support us on Patreon at any level, you get a sequel special every year, which is an extra-long episode we record to continue the story of one of our seasons. The season that gets the sequel is voted on by our Patrons, so if you do support us, you can vote on your favorite each year. Last year, Root won the vote, and we just released that sequel special on the Patreon in December. In previous years, we've done a sequel special to Call of Cthulhu, Tales from the Loop (that episode occurs before the Things from the Flood season), and the other one that we've release was Uncharted Worlds. That sequel special is what we're sharing with you today. So if you haven't listened to the Uncharted Worlds season, you may want to listen to that before you listen to this as there are naturally a lot of spoilers. In this sequel special, we play friend of the show Riley Hopkins' game If Not Us, Then Who? Which is a cool Power Ranger game and it's really good and you should check it out. If you like what you hear, there's lots more bonus content on our Patreon, that's at Patreon.com/VRE. If you're already supporting us there, THANK YOU SO MUCH! We couldn't do the show without you. Alun R facilitates the 7 of 7 (we lsot a session to real life) of the most recent playtest pack of Uncharted Worlds 2E. This session was organsied as part of The Gauntlet RPG Community's monthly calendar of games (www.gauntlet-rpg.com). The crew explore the enormous city ship that also seems to have been trapped in the space they believe lies within the planet Zandora. It's clear that the city ship has many organic, rather than technological components and is incredibly rich in Slip Particles. There's a paradigm shift in human understanding of Slip Space, an encounter with the janitorial staff that forces the crew into scaling the outside of one of the ship's structures, and a 'close encounter of the third kind' is avoided. Then desperate time critical calculations on slip thresholds, an unexpected arrival and missiles in flight ... a great finale that saw some arcs completed and new arcs hinted at ...
Alun R facilitates the 6th of 8 sessions of the current draft of Uncharted Worlds 2nd Edition. This session was organsied as part of The Gauntlet RPG Community's monthly calendar of games (www.gauntlet-rpg.com). Despite discovering a 'city ship' in the anomalous space they find themselves in, the crew opt to make contact with one of the centuries old cruisers dating from Narsan civil war. There's automated defences, stacks of sleep pods, and data that takes so long to download that some of the sleep pods wake up. Then, Gema faces off against the Narsan marines, while Sureshot considers ambushing them, before Riley works their 'personality' magic ... and the city ship is almost organic in construction ...
Alun R facilitates the 5th or 8 sessions of Uncharted Worlds (a playtest of the current 2nd Ed draft). This session was organsied as part of The Gauntlet RPG Community's monthly calendar of games (www.gauntlet-rpg.com). After getting paid, Sureshot has a couple of weeks on a dude ranch where he picks up a lead on a risky, but potentially very well paid, job (that's even legal!). It's an expedition to the planet's south pole where explorers kept disappearing until the Zandorans decided they weren't sufficiently interested to keep sending people down there. Meanwhile, Gema and Riley have a less productive couple of weeks recovering from their injuries. There's an automated interdiction broadcast, energy cannon fire, and some fancy flying. Then, a beam of anomalous energy, a disorientating transition, and a sky with no stars ... before we learn much more of history of Gema's people (and their real name).
Alun R facilitates the 4th of 8 sessions of the current playtest version of Uncharted Worlds 2E. This session was organsied as part of The Gauntlet RPG Community's monthly calendar of games (www.gauntlet-rpg.com). We discover what Harper was doing while Gema and Riley were fighting off a gang in the neon washed alleys of Hub City before fast forwarding to the surface of Zandora. This is the principle world of the Fertility system, with its implausibly large number of garden worlds. Riley's star power fails, Gema's silent menace speaks eloquently, and Harper remembers the Zandoran cowboy tri-dees of his childhood. A local vet helps with an increasingly wakeful problem before there's a chance to experience local culture. Then ... rumours of a hollow planet, a train, and a robbery ... and a 'dinosaur' on the loose.
Alun R facilitates the 3rd of 8 sessions of the playtest version of Uncharted Worlds (2nd Edition). This session was organsied as part of The Gauntlet RPG Community's monthly calendar of games (www.gauntlet-rpg.com). As the creww take the Ace of Spades through the slipgate to Helicon we learn of the rumours of 'Slip Ghosts'. We also learn something of Gema and Riley's early life during the week they spend 'in the tube'. Hub City holds many opporutnities and one of them is nearly taken from them in the neon washed alleys of the under city, but deft skills and reckless driving get them safely back to the Ace. The job is carrying live cargo to Zandora, in the FERTILITY system, so it's a long trip to the outer system and the Zandoran slipgate ... a trip during which the ship's scanner pick up a strange anomaly ...
Alun R facilitates the 2nd of 8 sessions of the most recetn playtest version of Uncharted Worlds 2Ed. This session was organsied as part of The Gauntlet RPG Community's monthly calendar of games (www.gauntlet-rpg.com). Taking time out for some shore leave on the desert planet, Oasis, the team find the possibility of a local job, complicated relationships to negotiate, adn debts to pay. Then there's a moth-balled factory in the desert, a racing track owned by the local mob, and a heist ... before honour has to be defended ...
Alun R facilitates the first of 8 sessions of most recent playtest draft of Uncharted Worlds 2nd Ed (by Sean Gomes). This session was organsied as part of The Gauntlet RPG Community's monthly calendar of games (www.gauntlet-rpg.com). We meet the crew: Harper 'Sureshot' Wilkerson, the Clandestine/Scoundrel from the Advanced system Iota B7; Riley Perihelion the Academic/Personality from the Galactic system Deo Thesmophoros; and Gema, the Military/Vanguard from the Isolated Narsus system. We also meet their current passenger Sara Carpenter, of the Zandoran Carpenters, on her gap year exploring the eponymous Cluster. There's a robbery in progress, a bold entrance, and then a clinical response, while civilians are comforted and everything is recorded, just in case . Then, sloppy use of advance tech leads to a risk of de-pressurisation, a guest recognises someone who'd rather stay under the radar, and Sureshot's image gets broadcast to people who will not like what just happened ...

Welcome to Game Mechanics, a show about Tabletop Roleplaying Games from lots of different perspectives. I’m Logan Jenkins.Today, I’m talking to Sean Gomes, writer of Uncharted Worlds, a Powered by the Apocalypse TTRPG. I am a total Sean Gomes fanboy. There’s a mechanic in UW called “Cramped Quarters;” when the characters are stuck together for a long time (like for space travel) they roll to see whether they had some bad blood, a moment of friendship, or a revelation about a character’s past. I mean it when I say that “Cramped Quarters” has changed the way I play ALL my games. I bring that move to every game I GM, and it succeeds so well at establishing characters as real people with real relationships to their teammates (something I think is sorely lacking in a lot of games.)Sean’s main gig is as an animator in the video games industry, and it shows in his answers. Lots of very different angles for answers to my questions. I’m so excited to share this conversation with you, so let’s get to it!Oh! And, weirdly, this conversation took place before quarantine… so we make some references to being trapped inside for weeks as a “what if” scenario… that is of course happening right now to all of us… weird times. Just a heads-up that it comes up. Follow Logan and today's guest: Logan: @LoganJenkins Sean can be found on The Gauntlet Forums Game Mechanics is hosted and supported by The Orange Groves podcast network.

Jonah M. Jackson and I launch into Uncharted Worlds to discuss Transform, a move from the Shaper playbook found in the Far Beyond Humanity expansion. This move is mechanically light, relying on another basic move for its trigger, but offers amazing flexibility in play. As you might expect when morphing into wild, alien beasts, the narrative impact of this move can be widely varied depending on the situation. The GM doesn't play a major role in the actual move, but it's incredibly important for you to discuss how you plan to use this move prior to the game. Here we are with a long and tedious episode of our new campaign. Well it's the setup of our new campaign for a game called Uncharted Worlds by Sean Gomes. Although we aren't actually playing Uncharted Worlds this episode was crucial for us in establishing setting, characters, and their relationship for each other. So this might not be the most exciting episode we've ever released but it is an important one for us to put out a good campaign. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our theme was written and recorded by Brad Harvey and Dan Walton. For future updates of their work follow them at @bradley_harvey and @danwaltonno ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our artwork was done by, wait, what's this?
