.FLOODING RAINS OCCURRING ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTH FLORIDA... ...THE DISTURBANCE SHOULD MOVE ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA TODAY… At 800 AM EDT (1200 UTC), the poorly defined center of the disturbance was located about 45 miles (70 km) south-southwest of Ft. Myers, Florida. The system is moving faster toward the northeast near 18 mph (30 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue through tonight. A turn toward the east-northeast with an additional increase in forward speed is expected on Sunday, followed by a turn toward the east Monday night. On the forecast track, the disturbance is expected to move across southern or central Florida today, over the southwestern Atlantic north of the Bahamas tonight, and near or to the north of Bermuda on Monday. Maximum sustained winds remain near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts, mainly in squalls. The disturbance is expected to become a tropical storm off the east coast of Florida by tonight, and some strengthening is forecast tonight through Monday as the system moves farther away from Florida over the western Atlantic. It has a high (90 percent) chance of formation during the next 48 hours and during the next five days. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 275 miles (445 km) to the east of the center. Over the past few hours, a weather station at Government Cut near Miami, Florida reported sustained winds of 40 mph (65 km/h) and a wind gust of 53 mph (85 km/h) at an elevation of 75 ft (23 m). RAINFALL: Heavy rainfall will affect portions of South Florida, the Keys, and the northwestern Bahamas through today. The following storm totals are expected: South Florida: Storm total of 6 to 10 inches with isolated maxima of 15 inches. Considerable flash and urban flooding are expected. Florida Keys: Storm total of 4 to 8 inches with isolated maxima of 10 inches. This rain may produce flash and urban flooding. Northwestern Bahamas: Storm total of 4 to 8 inches with maxima of 12 inches. This rain may produce flash and urban flooding. WIND: Tropical storm conditions are expected in the warning area in Florida today, especially in squalls, and in the northwestern Bahamas by this afternoon. Tropical storm conditions are still possible in western Cuba through this morning, mainly in squalls. STORM SURGE: The combination of storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline. The water could reach the following heights above ground somewhere in the indicated areas if the peak surge occurs at the time of high tide... Marco Island, FL to North Miami Beach, FL including Biscayne Bay...1-2 ft Florida Keys and Dry Tortugas...1-2 ft Extreme Northwestern Bahamas: Storm surge could raise water levels by as much 1- 3 ft above normal tide levels. Surge-related flooding depends on the relative timing of the surge and the tidal cycle and can vary greatly over short distances. For information specific to your area, please see products issued by your local National Weather Service forecast office. TORNADOES: A couple of tornadoes are possible over the southern Florida Peninsula and Upper Keys through the early afternoon. Next complete advisory at 1100 AM EDT. www.nhc.noaa.gov

Florida Keys and Key West Weather and Fishing Report

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 21, 2018 6:43

Happy Friday to you! It is the Friday before Christmas. So we've got one weekend left as we head into the Christmas holidays. I hope you have all of your shopping done and you are ready to have an awesome Christmas holiday. Now our weather forecast for today. We had some severe weather yesterday. And we continue to be at risk for some very, very high winds. We have partly cloudy skies with significant winds coming out of the west at 26 miles an hour. Our high temperature today near 75 degrees, low overnight is 63 degrees. Winds could occasionally gust to over 40 miles per hour during the day. Our chance of precipitation is only 10% today. But we did get a significant amount of precipitation yesterday so there could still be some flooding and that sort of thing that you might need to look out for. So our severe weather chances continue until Saturday morning. So especially if you are on the gulf or Bay side, especially in the Upper Keys, you definitely need to watch out because there will be flooding. Water levels in the street could be you know, one to two and a half feet above street level in some places. So make sure you are not driving across any roads or anything that have water standing in them. So because of the crazy weather, it's not going to be a great day to be out on the water. We still continue to have some advisories. There probably will be a small craft advisory issued. So not recommending you get out on the water today to do any fishing. But if you're fishing from a bridge or you're doing somewhere safely from land so that you're not at risk, let me tell you what the conditions are going to be. We have rising atmospheric pressure, it's going from 29.77 to 30.06. Our UV index which is high, because, it's going to be just partly cloudy/mostly sunny today is going to be a six. So you have to take precautions. Water temperatures still holding steady at 75 degrees. But the swells off shore - the lowest ones are going to be about nine feet and the highest ones are going to be about 17 feet. So you really want to make sure that you are prepared if you go out. It's not the time to be in a small boat out there. Now our sunrise today is 7:07am. And sunset will be at 5:44pm. Our first low tide is it to 1:23am and the next low tide will be at 1:46pm. The first high tide will be at 9:13am, and the next high tide will be at 8:25pm. Overall, we've got 10 hours and 37 minutes of sunshine and our solar transit will occur at 12:25pm. Now I wanted to talk to you about the tidal coefficient because it's going to be some of the highest that I have seen. It's a 94 this afternoon which is very high. So what that basically means is the difference between the lowest low tide and the highest high tide. So our lowest low tide puts us about a half a foot below sea level which is going to occur right around 2am. And then our highest high tide is going to be over two feet whenever it comes in at 8:25pm. So that difference between negative point four of a foot and 2.1 feet over sea level equates to about a two and a half feet difference in our highs and low tide. And that's where our tidal coefficient comes from. So it's definitely something you want to pay attention to. And that could also lead to some flooding in some areas, because when those high tides come in, and they're unusually high because of this weather. Then we could also have some flooding in the areas that don't normally have flood with just regular rain overall. Today if we look at our solunar activity, and I'm just telling you this because you might still be fishing from a bridge or some other safe place where you're not putting yourself at risk to fish activity is in our minor periods today. And three fish activity is in our major period. And then our minor period in the evening also coincides with sunset. So moon rise coincides with sunset that's gonna be from 5pm to 601. So overall, it's a two fish on the fish scale day. But again, it's not the best day to be offshore with with any type of small boat or small craft or anything like that, because you really could be swamped over very quickly with the waves. And the swells that we we also have our winter solstice today that occurs at 5:23pm. And then after today, we've got the full moon coming in tomorrow. And then we start having our days get gradually longer, which if you're like me, and you need the sunshine, that is a blessing for sure. The Gulf Stream has moved slightly off shore, but again, it is moving very, very quickly out there. We also have some very, very high winds and waves in the Gulf Stream areas. So it's not a great day to be out in the Gulf Stream, even you're, you're going to have a lot of waves in, it's just going to be very, very turbulent. So again, I exhort you to please pay attention to any marine alerts and any craft advisories that we have. Because it is not going to be the day to be out on the water and put yourself in danger for recreational activities. So no matter what you have woken up in the beautiful Florida Keys, and that makes it the perfect day to have a perfect day. Today's weather report is brought to you by 43 Keys Media. I visited the FL Keys Steak & Lobster House, which is located at 3660 Overseas Hwy, Marathon, FL 33050    Here's the link to their website                            www.FlKeysSteakAndLobster.com   The Florida Keys are a string of tropical islands……and they  stretch about 120 miles off the southern tip of Florida, between the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. There are literally over a THOUSAND islands in the Keys. This was my 1st visit to the Keys, so…… I am NOT an authority by any means, on the Florida Keys! What I am good at……is finding you Restaurants with Healthy Options during YOUR trip to the Keys! Thankfully…….The “Keys” are divided up into 3 Major Sections: The “Upper Keys” The “Middle Keys”……. And …….The “Lower Keys” To give you a perspective……..Key Largo is located in the “Upper Keys,” which is the Northern part of The Keys, and is located South of Miami. Key West is located in the “Lower Keys”…….the Southern most part of the Keys.   Today, I am going to tell you about a fantastic restaurant on the island of “Marathon,” which is located in the “middle keys.”   I mentioned to you last week…..that I was visiting My Friends……. Christy Haussler & Allison Millwood, owners of “Team Podcast.”  Team Podcast offers “Full Service podcast production, which includes…..podcast editing , show notes, and social media marketing distribution. If you need help with podcast production…..don’t hesitate to contact Team Podcast at www.teampodcast.com   Christy & Allison know I’m LIVING a Healthy Lifestyle, so they took me to….. the “FL Keys Steak & Lobster House,” which is located at 3660 Overseas Hwy, Marathon, FL 33050.  Again……Marathon is located in the “Middle Keys”   The atmosphere inside the restaurant is cozy & clean,  with fresh, white linen tablecloths & scenes of stained glass fish on the walls.   I love that the tables are not squished up against each other too! I had plenty of room to eat and I was able to have a conversation with my guests…..without SCREAMING!   I HATE sitting at a table in a restaurant & I can’t even have a conversation with my guests without screaming at the top of my lungs!   Nice atmosphere at FL Keys Steak & Lobster House!   Our WAITER was named Jason, and Jason was an excellent waiter. The kind of waiter, when you tell him ONCE what you are drinking and he comes back with another glass at exactly the right time! Jason was also great at recommending items from the menu based on my “LIVING a Healthy Lifestyle” criteria. Thank you Jason for obviously liking your job and taking care of me and my guests that night!   Now…..let’s take a look at the menu   MENU   They have a full-line list of adult beverages with beer, wine and specialty drinks.   I found the Gluten-Free "Redbridge Beer" interesting, and they have non-alcoholic O’Douls Beer as well. They serve unsweetened ice tea as well as bottled & sparkling water.   The appetizers are abundant and tempting. You have to ALWAYS remember you are eating healthy, which means eating REAL Food……the Weight Loss Nation motto is….   “If it grows out of the ground, hangs from a tree, roams the Earth, flies in the sky or swims in the ocean…..EAT it™”   Don’t think hard about this and definitely don’t try and manipulate what the motto means.   The motto does NOT mean eating Fried Food. Shrimp that has a bread batter and then deep fried in vegetable oil….is NOT…..Healthy Eating or Eating Real Food.   Healthy Eating an option from the menu like this  …….Chunks of fresh lobster marinated with lemon juice, oranges, cilantro, onions and cucumber…..This Healthy Eating option is called Lobster Ceviche. For $15.95, you get FRESH and I mean FRESH.... Lobster with healthy fruits and veggies, that come together beautifully!   Also on the Appetizer list…… is my NEW FAVORITE SHRIMP!   Which is PINK, Wild Caught Gulf Shrimp Cocktail!   For $15.95, you’ll get FOUR HUGE....SWEET....      Pink Gulf Shrimp, with a side of cocktail sauce. The Shrimp is soo sweet…..all you really need is a squeeze of lemon on each shrimp….Delicious!   There is an absolute Delicious list of healthy salads you could choose from. I would suggest since you’re in the Florida Keys, where fresh fish and shellfish are brought to the FL Keys Steak & Lobster House Daily, that you try not to EAT a SALAD….although delicious….for your main meal!   Listen to some of these AWESOME Entrees! First …… All of the seafood is bought fresh DAILY to the Fl Keys Steak & Lobster House Restaurant and prepared to order. All dinners are served with your choice of two sides. You can get the fresh vegetable of the day and a small house salad as your sides. AND…..Unlimited soup and salad bar can be added to any entrée for just $6.95  The first Delicious Healthy Menu Option is..... The Broiled Seafood Platter on the menu for $32.95 You get…..Fresh Mahi…shrimp….scallops and….. a crab cake broiled to perfection! I was very tempted to get this entrée….and next time I visit….I will get it…..but I saw Coconut-Macadamian Nut Crusted Snapper on the menu and I flipped!   The Coconut Macadamian Crusted Snapper is Pan Fried in olive oil, and a Mango Sauce and then topped with Red Peppers in a butter sauce onto your plate! No hesitation for me…..That’s what I ordered!   When I go somewhere that has fresh fish and can properly cook and prepare fish…..I order it!   The Snapper filet was white, flaky and the blend of coconut macadamian nut with mango sauce was BEAUTIFUL!   The Snapper also comes with 2 sides, which I ordered the grilled vegetables and a small house salad. The Snapper Entree costs $32.95, but I’ll tell you what…….It was the BEST DAMN Snapper I have EVER had!      There are other fantastic seafood entrees on the menu too!   IF you feel like steak, chops or ribs…..they have wonderful entrees on the menu for you too. They pretty much cater to everyone at FL Keys Steak & Lobster Restaurant. They even have a kid’s menu! They also have Free Raised Veal & Poultry entrees and they have Vegetarian entrees too! They have a  Spicy Grilled Tofu Salad for $16.95 Which is Served with mixed greens, walnuts & raisins covered with a spicy dressing.   The Healthy options on this menu is ABUNDANT Nation!   Review of FL Keys Steak & Lobster House   For Great Ambiance, Great Service by the wait staff     GREAT Food…..FL KEYS STEAK & LOBSTER RESTAURANT gets………  a HUGE 3 WLN Avocado’s!   That’s right….Great ambiance, wait staff…..AND food! Well done FL Keys Steak & Lobster Restaurant!   I will DEFINITELY BE BACK!   The Restaurant is open 7 Days a Week   from 11:30am till 10:00pm.
