Dr Andreas Berg is an intellectual historian with a PhD from Griffith University on the interplay between the Enlightenment and mystical discourses in eighteen century Russia. For over a decade, he taught the humanities at Griffith and Bond Universities and he is currently pursuing post-graduate study in international relations at the Australian National University. The Political Animals is hosted by Dr Jonathan Cole, a scholar, writer and translator specialising in political theology: the intersection of religion and politics. Jonathan was a senior terrorism analyst at Australian intelligence agency the Office of National Assessments where he worked on Islamist terrorism and the global jihadist movement. Wenn der Westen den Menschen in der Ukraine helfen will, dann ginge das nicht mit mehr Waffen, sondern mit einem Waffenstillstand, der zu Friedensverhandlungen führen muss, so Orban am Dienstag dieser Woche (23. Mai 2023) bei einer internationalen Konferenz in Doha, der Hauptstadt des Golfstaates Katar.Wo Orban Recht hat, hat er Recht! Aber aktuell steht er mit dieser Position in der EU ziemlich allein. Nur wenn die Strippenzieher im kollektiven Westen diese Realität anerkennen, zur Vernunft kommen und ihren unabdingbaren Widerstand gegen einen Frieden mit Russland fallen lassen, können wir alle wieder Hoffnung schöpfen. Schaut man sich jedoch die Ergebnisse des jüngsten G7-Gipfels in Japan und das neue, elfte (!) Die ukrainischen Verluste in den monatelangen Kämpfen waren extrem hoch, vor allem weil der ukrainische Präsident Selenskij persönlich Bachmut einen sehr hohen strategischen Stellenwert beigemessen hatte. Die Stadt sollte unter allen Umständen gehalten werden, koste es, was es wolle, an Material und Menschenleben. Letztlich aber wurde das Stadtgebiet von der russischen Söldnertruppe Wagner PMC erobert, wobei die Wagnerianer allerdings Unterstützung durch Artillerie- und Luftwaffeneinsätze der regulären russischen Armee bekamen.Nach jüngsten Angaben des Wagner PMC Chefs Prigoschin „gab es in Bachmut auf beiden Seiten hohe Verluste". Er sagte (1):„Wir haben in Bachmut gegen überlegene Streitkräfte gekämpft, etwa 50.000 ukrainische Streitkräfte zerstört und bis zu 70.000 verwundet“."Wagner PMC hatte 3,2 mal weniger (also 15.600) Tote als die Streitkräfte der Ukraine und etwa 2 mal weniger Verwundete, (also 35.000).“„Auf unserer Seite hatten wir in Bachmut (zu keinem Zeitpunkt mehr als) 50.000 Leute und die Streitkräfte der Ukraine hatten 82.000 auf der Gegenseite.“„Das Ziel von Bachmut war nicht so sehr die Eroberung der Stadt selbst, sondern in der Schaffung des Fleischwolfs von Bachmut. Und in Bachmut haben wir alle zerstört, die wir zerstören sollten. Wir haben die Aufgabe erledigt.“Es war vor allem die russische Artillerie, die der Ukraine trotz umfangreicher Westlieferungen an Qualität und Quantität haushoch überlegen ist, die Bachmut den berüchtigten Namen eines Fleischwolfs gegeben hat. Denn auf Selenskijs Befehl, die Stadt um jeden Preis zu halten, wurden immer wieder neue ukrainische Brigaden in die Stadt und somit in das Feuer der russischen Artillerie geschickt, die sich im Laufe der Monate auf die Koordinaten von jedem Straßenzug und jedem Winkel eingeschossen hatte.
