Lori Mihalich-Levin believes that parenthood can make a person a better employee. Parenting entails time management, project management, multitasking, prioritizing and budgeting, to name a few things. When Lori was on maternity leave from her role as a medical reimbursement attorney, Lori created Mindful Return out of sheer desperation. After being unable to find resources to assist a parent into being a new parent and this change in their identity, Lori created the program to assist the new parent with this transition. Employers are able to offer the program to their employees as a benefit when they are on parental leave. Mindful Return is an online program that assists people in transitioning back into the workforce after parental leave. Each program is a cohort of parents with different employers. Mindful Return is available for those who identify as moms, dads, are parenting special needs children, adoptive parents, and surrogate parents. There is also a manager track of Mindful Return which prepares a manager for the biggest differences when a team member is on leave. You may register for Mindful Return as an individual, or connect your Human Resources department with Mindful Return. Visit mindfulreturn.com for additional details. Bible Reading: Colossians 3:12-15; Hebrews 2:17-18"Hi, Kaylee!" said Lori when Kaylee came to work on a school project and then spend the night. Lori pointed to her friend's feet. ""Look, Mom! Kaylee's new shoes are exactly like mine! Cool!"The next morning, the girls had to hurry to catch the school bus. "Can I stop at Kaylee's house after school, Mom?" Lori asked. Mom nodded and waved as they left. When Lori came home that afternoon, she plopped down on the couch. "I'm glad to be home," she declared. "Kaylee's dad wasn't in a very good mood. Her little brother was annoying--she says he's always getting into her stuff. And Kaylee's mom was at work and had left a whole list of chores for her to do." Lori grunted as she took off her shoes. "Besides, my feet hurt. These new shoes rubbed a blister on my heel.""Maybe they just need to be broken in," said Mom, looking at the label in the shoe. "This is size five and a half! You should have a six. You girls must have worn each other's shoes.""No wonder my feet hurt!" said Lori. She laughed. "It's like that old proverb that says you should never judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes. I guess Kaylee and I walked at least that far in each other's shoes today."Mom smiled. "Yes, you did that literally, and spending time at someone's house is also kind of like walking in that person's shoes. So what did you learn from walking in Kaylee's shoes?" Lori hesitated. "I've been to her house before, but I never knew what Kaylee has to put up with sometimes," she said at last."We're often not aware of problems other people are facing," Mom replied. "That's one reason we should pray for others instead of criticizing them.""Because God knows what they're going through, right?" Mom nodded. "Jesus understands our struggles because He's walked in our shoes--He became human and experienced suffering Himself. We need to show others grace like He does.""I'll pray that things get better for Kaylee," Lori said. "But right now I'm going to call her and see how she liked walking in my shoes. At least the ones she wore were big enough for her!" (Barbara J. Westberg)How About You?Are you quick to criticize others? Maybe you need to walk in their shoes for a while and think about what it would be like to live in their circumstances. Perhaps you'll learn that they are hurting, and you may have an opportunity to encourage them to talk to Jesus about their troubles. He understands what they're going through. Don't judge and criticize them; pray for them.Today's Key Verse:Because Jesus was tempted as we are and suffered as we do, He understands us and He is able to help us when we are tempted. Episode 78 Lori LynnSixty year-old Mother and Grandmother, Loraine “Lori” Lynn went missing on August 1st, 2017 after driving to her Mom Wanda's home in Liberty Twp, Ohio to pick her up and run an errand. When Lori arrived and found that Wanda was out, she left. What happened after that remains a mystery. What is known is that the following day, Lori's family frantically searched Wanda's 40 acre farm, and found Lori's 2017 Nissan Pathfinder abandoned behind a barn. Further searching led to a tractor partially submerged in a pond. Tragically, Lori was found dead in the tractor. Investigators in a matter of hours close the case deeming it an accident. It wasn't until later when Lori's family viewed surveillance video of Wanda's property that important clues would be revealed, and the case would be changed to a homicide. Hi Dog Lovers! Glad that you’ve joined us today! Our special guest, Lori Busi is the owner of Advantage Insurance Solutions, an Independent agency in Denver, Colorado. When Lori’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her Husband, kids and fur babies. Lori, I read that in Sweden, about 60 percent of cats and dogs have medical insurance, in the U.K., 27 to 28 percent of pets have medical insurance, but in the United States and Canada, less than 1 percent of pet dogs and cats have medical insurance. Why do you think that is?I would think that purchasing pet insurance is often motivated by a combination of love and fear, and really it’s like placing a bet that disaster will strike someday. So, just like any insurance, it’s kind of like gambling. How do we know if it’s right for us?Do we need to ask ourselves if we are the type of owner who would pursue all possible avenues to save our dog vs if we are someone more likely to forgo treatments that would seem overly invasive or heroic? Is it true that some insurance plans exclude things like cancer or hip dysplasia? Could you pay extra to add a rider to your policy? Do they typically cover pre-existing conditions? Are there policies that reimburse you for well-pet services like spay or neuter, annual bloodwork, vaccines or dental cleanings? Is there such a thing as an HSA account? Can you usually go to any veterinarian, including emergency and specialty clinics, and use your policy? How can you determine which pet insurance company is the best fit? What are the factors that determine the cost of a policy? Do the premiums go up as your dog ages? What about a multiple pet household? Do most companies offer discounts?I understand that there are some employers in the United States that offer pet health insurance benefits, so maybe check and see if that is a voluntary benefit that is offered? If someone does not have pet insurance, would another option be to put money away each month?Lori, where can everyone find out more information about you and Advantage Insurance Solutions?https://www.teamais.net/OFFER: For anyone in the U.S., by requesting a pet insurance quote by going to the https://www.teamais.net/ website, just enter code WOL and get $5 off your first month’s premium. You are in for a treat with today’s guest and her unique story of resilience. Even though it took many years to make her childhood dreams come true, she found a way to make it happen despite overwhelming odds that were against her. She’s now enjoying success that she never saw coming--and the best is yet to come! Join us to learn more! Lori Orlinsky is a multi-award-winning author who lives in Chicago. She is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. An author with Mascot Books, Lori writes rhyming, lesson-based picture books that naturally lead to a discussion about important topics, such as bullying prevention and honesty. At just over five feet tall, she wishes her first book Being Small (Isn’t So Bad After All) was around while she was growing up. Fulfilling a lifelong dream How long would you chase your dream before giving up? Lori knew as a young child that she wanted to write books. Even as a kid, she crafted construction paper “books” to tell her stories. She later prepared for the journey to writing children’s books by going to journalism school and writing in different capacities whenever she found opportunities. Her inspiration came from a specific incident with her oldest daughter being singled out as the shortest in her class. When Lori looked for children’s books about being small, she couldn’t find a single one! This was her inspiration to write Being Small (Isn’t So Bad After All). Lori calls this event her “Aha moment” in the journey to chase her lifelong dream of being a writer. This is what it took to realize her dream was finding the personal passion for writing about a topic that impacted her family, along with realizing that the need existed for a book like hers. Lori’s book is for kids who feel singled out and slighted because of their small size, but it’s a book about bullying prevention at its core. TWEET: Lori realized her dream was finding the personal passion for writing about a topic that impacted her family. @loriorlinskyauthor #chasingdreams Continuing on the journey How many “No’s” would it take to make you give up on your dream? Lori would give a big number to that question. After writing her book, it took about 200 tries to get it published, but she never gave up. Lori’s second book, The Tooth Fairy’s Tummyache, was written in response to her struggle to teach her daughters the value of honesty. The story, with a main character named for her youngest daughter, concludes with an admonition to be honest and always tell the truth. The book has the fun silliness of a story with rhymes, but it teaches an important lesson in honesty, too. Lori believes that a fun story that teaches kids a valuable lesson is better than sitting down to have those difficult conversations about their behavior. Lori’s third book, Balloons for Tiger, is about the love we have for our pets and will be out in May 2021. TWEET: It took Lori 200 tries to get her first book published. @loriorlinskyauthor #chasingdreams The epitome of a dream chaser Does your dream chase inspire others? You don’t have to look hard at Lori’s story to be inspired by her resilience. She NEVER gave up on her dream. She waited for inspiration to strike and the need to arise for each book she has written. She says, “The best books come out of the times in which we live and the things that we experience.” Her first book is still in demand, it’s still being reprinted, and she’s still connecting with parents and teachers about it--even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether writing or just being a mom, Lori is passionate about teaching kids to focus on the positive moments in life and not let negative moments define them. TWEET: Lor waited for inspiration to strike and the need to arise for each book she has written. @loriorlinskyauthor #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take--”Go back to your childhood. This, by far, was one of the hardest podcasts for me to record. In this week's episode of the Business of Becoming, I share with you in real-time, how I am processing my own white privilege, and my racism. You may recall, dear Tip-Ster, way back in Episode 8, when Melissa recalled the tragic-yet-amazing story of "Tent Girl," a young woman whose body was found wrapped in a canvas designed to wrap circus tents, on the side of a road near Georgetown Kentucky in May 1968. Tent Girl's story is remarkable for two reasons. The first remarkable fact is that after a couple of years of trying everything that could be tried to learn Tent Girl's identity to no avail, the tiny town of Georgetown essentially adopted her as its own - even paying for her burial and a stunningly beautiful headstone at the local cemetery. But the most stunning part of Tent Girl's story is how her true identity - Barbara Ann Hackman - was finally revealed by a complete stranger living in a completely different state. The man who had discovered the young woman's body, it turns out, had moved his family from Georgetown Kentucky - to Tennessee - kand there his daughter, Lori, found a high school sweetheart - a young 17 year-old boy named Todd Matthews. When Lori's dad retold his story about finding Tent Girl's body and the subsequent search for her identity back in Kentucky, young Todd - at 17! - decided there and then that he would make it his mission to uncover the woman's name and return her to her family, wherever they were. Over the course of the years, Todd and Lori got married and raised a family. Todd got a job at a local plant that manufactures auto parts. And every night, day off - every waking hour - Todd carried out his mission to find out who the tragically-murdered victim was and where she came from. In the process, Todd essentially helped invent the modern-day independent Internet sleuth. At first using the telephone and the U.S. Mail, then gradually using the early rudimentary tool of the Worldwide Web before most of us even knew it existed, he began working with law enforcement on not just the Tent Girl case, but many other missing person and unidentified body cases. He was a key player in the founding of the Doe Network and NamUs, two online resources that today help hundreds of law enforcement agencies and families identify missing or unidentified loved ones. Oh - and yes - nearly 30 years after beginning his quest, Todd's hard work paid off - and Barbara Ann Hackman was Tent Girl no more. Todd Matthews, in short, is a hero. And Todd Matthews is Melissa's guest on this week's episode. Listen in as a true legend in the world of Internet sleuthing, still married to Lori and now a grandfather but still as passionate as ever - retells his story in a fascinating discussion about how one person can change the world by simply deciding to become dedicated.
When Lori moved from a little neighborhood in New Jersey to backwoods, rural Kentucky, she experienced loneliness and isolation like never before. Books became her best friends. An avid reader of other people's stories, Lori became comfortable talking to pretty much anyone, from homeless prostitutes to famous actors. She's an advocate of finding "Compatible Crazy," and she now uses stories to help starving artists and struggling business owners grow their audiences and their bottom lines. Her desire is to see out-of-the-box thinkers thrive. She interviews modern-day heroes with inspiring stories at The Rise & Climb Podcast. Lori is also a homeschool mom of three teenage actors! In this episode Lori and I talk about how to be present and connected with our children. The funny thing is that Lori had to take a phone call from her daughter in the middle of our interview which showed how committed she is to putting her kids first and making sure they feel seen and heard! July 28, 2013. Newtown, Connecticut. 50-year old Robert “Hoagy” Hoagland is last seen mowing the lawn outside his house. The following day, his wife, Lori, returns from a trip to Turkey, but Hoagy fails to pick her up at the airport as scheduled. When Lori returns home, she discovers that her husband is missing and that his vehicle and all of his personal possessions have been left behind. Investigators explore the possibility that Hoagy’s disappearance might be connected to drug addiction issues involving his son, Max, and a recent confrontation Hoagy had with some of Max’s criminal associates. However, they also cannot rule out the idea that Hoagy disappeared voluntarily, as he had once run away from his family on a previous occasion. This week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold” explores a truly perplexing missing persons case in which there is no conclusive evidence to suggest what happened. “Get into the kitchen and play. Get the children involved. Have them peel something or taste it when it's raw... we're all in it together.”Brandon Fortener (31:32-32:06) Brandon Fortener is the Product Development Chef for the Kroger company, which is the nation's largest supermarket retailer. Produce is one of the first things that Kroger's nine million daily customers see when they walk into the store. Brandon is also a self-proclaimed Produce Dad and a big fan of The Produce Moms. He cooks a lot at home, which enables him to take all of those wonderful ingredients from Kroger's produce department and create meals for his family. “Food is culture. It's how people celebrate. The more I meet people at Kroger, the more I'm seeing that alive within the Kroger team. -Lori Taylor (8:15-8:24) Must-Know Produce Tips Tip # 1: Taste it. As you're cooking any produce, taste it when it's still raw, then as it's cooking, and again right before you serve it. The flavor and texture of produce changes as it is cooking. Tasting it as you go is the best way to observe how. Tip # 2: Keep fresh produce around. If you keep fresh produce in your refrigerator and pantry, they will be available and easy to incorporate into your meals. Tip # 3: Look at different ways to use produce as it's going through its cycle. For example, when greens are young and tender, they're really good raw and tossed with a little lemon juice and olive oil. But when they're more mature, cook them and additional flavors such as apple cider vinegar, onion, and red pepper flakes. Tip for Reducing Produce Waste Kroger's Zero Hunger/Zero Waste program is part of Kroger's commitment to ending hunger in the communities they serve and to eliminating waste across their company. One of Brandon's tips for reducing produce waste is to throw the peelings and trimmings into a gallon ziplock bag. When it gets full, dump the bag's contents into a pot of water and cook into vegetable stock. “One in eight Americans struggle with hunger, but we're throwing away 40% of our food.” - Brandon Fortener (17:35-17:41) “Wilted to Wonderful” is a series within Kroger's Zero Hunger/Zero Waste program that provides great recipes to transform produce that's “on the edge” into delicious dishes. Tips to Inspire Children to Eat More Produce Tip 1: Be a good role model. Let your kids see that you're eating fruits and veggies, which will inspire them to eat fruits and veggies, too. Tip 2: Make it easy to eat. Buy pre-cut fruits and veggies or cut them up at the beginning of the week so they're easy to pull out and eat. For produce that gets brown when cut, such as apple slices, toss with a little bit of lemon juice. Tip 3: Cut produce into different shapes and sizes. When Lori switched from baby carrots to carrot “chips,” it increased her kids' consumption of them. Tip 4: Turn vegetables into sauces and purees. Carrots pureed into a sauce, for example, is wonderful. It's such an easy way to “sneak” extra produce into your family's meal. Tip 5: Introduce kids at a young age to seasonings and extra flavor. Start with adding extra flavoring to something they already love. They may not love it the first time. Try again! Our children are growing and changing day by day, and may need another chance to adapt to a new flavor. You can find many more tips from Brandon and his team at Kroger.com under the tab “Discover.” There you'll see information about Zero Hunger/Zero Waste, Wilted to Wonderful videos, thousands of recipes, and many articles loaded with cooking tips. On December 26, 2016, 58-year-old Lori Feltz disappeared from Cynthiana, KY. When Lori was young, she was in a terrible car accident. This accident killed her younger brother, who was a passenger in the vehicle, and Lori suffered a traumatic brain injury. This accident would change the course of her life forever. Lori, as a result of this injury, had intellectual disabilities, short term memory loss, seizures and required a caregiver to help her with daily tasks and make sure she took her medication.Around 9 AM on December 26, 2016, Lori was last seen leaving her house on Hick Hardy Road to walk up a path to go help her sister at the home next door. The path was only about 300 yards and this was a route she would walk on a regular basis for exercise. However, she never made it to see her sister. Her sister, Tricia, was expecting Lori and became concerned when she didn’t arrive but she couldn’t find Lori anywhere. Lori’s family members believe that it is possible that she became disoriented on her walk and flagged down a passing motorist to ask for a ride, but so far there have been no signs or clues to indicate what truly happened to Lori that day.If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Lori Feltz please call the Kentucky State Police at 859-428-1212.You can follow Lori's case on Facebook at Finding Justice for Lori. This episode was co-researched and written by Marissa Jones and Erika Gwynn. Lori Zindl is the President of efficientC, a comprehensive, software-as-a-service (SaaS) that provides healthcare organizations a single solution with unmatched performance. “Beside your physical building, account receivables are your largest asset.” Lori began her revenue cycle career in 1985 as a medical bill collector. She was amazed at the amount of bad debt sent to collection agencies which were still owed by third-party payers. She wondered why healthcare providers couldn't get paid by the insurance themselves, a question that ultimately led her to a revenue cycle consulting role. In 1993, Lori founded her first company OS inc., to support revenue cycle services at hospital’s struggling with their collections. Never one to shy away from innovation, in the late 2000s she spearheaded the development of efficientC – a state-of-the-art claim processing and denial management software used by her own staff and rural hospitals across the country. When Lori isn’t busy managing the day-to-day operations at efficientC and OS inc., she enjoys spending time on the speaking circuit educating healthcare leaders on revenue cycle best practices.
Time for a little wake-up call, friends! There can be many reasons why you’re not yet where you want to be, but today I am going to go over four of them. When Lori and I were doing only around 250K a year we got sick and tired and decided to just “GO FOR IT”…and went from 250,000 to over 1 million in one year. Your Goals Are WEAK. You’re shooting too low…thinking that you’ll just take slow, incremental steps to wealth instead of really exploding! Why not think bigger and set bigger goals? You’re not setting the bar high enough. And then when you do, just work backwards, and think out of the box. So what kind of crazy, amazing goal are you going to set this year? Your Tribe ISN’T Helping You. While your tribe might be amazing, great people, but if they haven’t been to where YOU’RE SHOOTING FOR, then they have nothing to teach you. It’s time to find a new tribe of people who you surround yourself with. You don’t have to tell your current one to “peace out” but you need to reach out to additional, different people who will up-level your tribe. You’re Too Damn Conservative. You’re probably placing too much value on your current “stability” and if you place too much focus on that, you will not be able to take the proper “risks” that you need to take in order to go to the next level. Make a radical change to get a radical new outcome! Take some risks when it’s smart. You’re Mentally Weak. I say this with the most love possible, honestly. You’re scared and afraid of what people might say if you fail or make changes. You’re afraid you might look silly. You’re not willing to push through the uncomfortable part and endure a short-term struggle in order to reach that long-term success! You’re not willing to turn off the tv and pick up a book to learn what you need to learn. Your mental discipline needs a good workout! “These four reasons are why you DESIRE to lead a better life, but you are not yet leading an EXTRAORDINARY life.” You see, these four reasons have been holding you back. And again, I say talk about these with some serious love for you. They’re the reasons that you DESIRE to lead a better life but you’re not yet living an EXTRAORDINARY life. If you can get these four areas cleaned up and corrected, just imagine what your life could look like in a matter of months! In This Episode We Talk about: Why your tribe could be holding you back Four reasons you’re not yet rich and how to make some changes in order to fix them How you’re probably setting crappy goals and don’t even know it Resources: Now accepting applications for the 2019 For the Love of Money Mastermind as well as VIP Days and one-on-one coaching. For years Lori Orr believed her Los Angeles firefighter dad was a selfless hero. When Lori’s dad was arrested and charged with four murders and countless arson fires, it was her testimony that helped keep him from being sent to Death Row. Eventually, Lori’s search for the truth lead her to the dark secrets lurking in her family’s past and to an inescapable conclusion about the remorseless killer and arsonist known as the "Pillowcase Pyro" and his reign of terror in sunny Southern California.EXCERPT: A hardware store employee saw the flames as they roared toward him down one of the overstocked aisles. A group of employees ran by and he herded them toward a nearby fire escape. The fire was sucking all of the oxygen out of the room and when they got the door open, the group of panicked shoppers and employees running for their lives were literally pushed out of the door as though they were shot from a cannon.“It was coming. Coming fast toward us. The flame, the fire, everything.”Together with award-winning journalist Frank C. One of the most popular questions I get is how Lori and I as a couple make financial decisions. It’s not surprising when you see everywhere just how stressful finances can be. So today, I’m sharing a few game-changing ground rules that will help you feel better about your and your partner’s relationship with money. Set your ego aside. Regardless if you’re the sole bread winner or you both work, no ONE person is at fault. You should both have a strong interest in your financial goals. (If you don’t, this is your wake-up call to start!) This is a team effort and no one is meant carry the burden alone. Ensure there are no secrets, share your fears and keep those old financial stories out of it. “Living in the now is the only way to have certainty of your financial future.” Learn your partner’s communication style. This is imperative. Keep in mind that your partner will not hear you if your message is being given in a way they cannot receive. Trust me. When Lori and I first began working together, this took us 6 months to figure out. Have a budget and set goals. Make it fun and dream together. If you’ve never had a budget, I recommend checking out Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. “Your budget is your financial roadmap to your goals.” Schedule regular celebrations. Yes! Make “money dates” something to look forward to. Once a month shoot to go out and celebrate in your favorite way and take this time to acknowledge what went well, what mistakes were made and what you need to work on. Truly aim to air out any issues at this time unless it is more urgent. “What doesn’t get celebrated won’t be repeated.” In closing and in order for these steps to work, you must practice integrity when it comes to achieving your goals. Make sure you’re adhering to the above and your feelings around finances – especially as a couple – will lead to more harmony and abundance in all aspects of life. In This Episode We Talk about: Four tips that will change the financial game for you as a couple Why no one is at fault Learning different communication styles Why you need to schedule in regular celebrations Resources: Now accepting applications for the 2019 For the Love of Money Mastermind. Today’s episode was spurred by a question I received via Instagram. And while I could have just answered on there, I figured it deserved a longer, more quality and REAL response. The question was: “How do you think someone’s relationship could affect their success and how do you find a partner like this?” Fair warning, my answers may lead to a huge wave of self-reflection. Firstly, in my opinion, a person’s romantic relationship massively affects success. How can we expect it not to when our partners share our finances, time and energy – among other things. And let’s not forget that these people are also the people we want to celebrate our successes with. “If your partner is aligned with your goals, you’re going to have a higher chance of succeeding.” They can have different goals and drivers, but they understand your ambition and likely have their own as well. On the flip side: “The wrong partner can ruin your success.” Now don’t get me wrong. Just because you’re with the “wrong” partner doesn’t mean they’re not a good person – it just means that they’re not in alignment with your goals and ambitions. “People can be good people but the wrong partner at the same time.” Just to give you an idea, the right partner provides: You with ideas and supports yours The right style of accountability Objectivity in a way that you can receive it (and not take offense) Let me stress here that I am only answering the question. You definitely don’t NEED a romantic partner to be successful. It could be a friend, business partner – or perhaps it’s just you. When it comes to the second portion of the question about how you find a partner, I don’t think you can find one, but let me explain. When Lori and I met, we weren’t amazing partners…at least not right from the start. We were a couple of party kids from Wisconsin who liked to go out. But here’s the thing, we both were dreamers and had big goals for our future lives. And we both had equal levels of ambition and drive in each of our fields. “We were always willing to try the other’s ideas on for size.” We didn’t start out with perfect communication. There were fights and tears, but today we are committed to getting better as partners. We still have disagreements, but know how to objectively get through them. Lori Kennedy is the Founder of The Wellness Business Hub, a website that offers health and wellness professionals resources on what they need to know to launch a successful practice. For so many students who recently graduated, they are not equipped with the knowledge of going out there and making their own business succeed. When Lori started her own practice, she made so many mistakes and wished she had a place like The Wellness Business Hub to go to. On the show, Lori discusses why single sessions don’t work for your patients or your business, how owning a business isn’t always for everyone, and so much more! Key Insights & Aha Moments: *Before we get started with today’s interview, don’t forget I have a new freebie for you! *It’s hard to find other local practitioners who want to collaborate. It’s the scarcity mindset! *How did Lori become a wellness practitioner? *Lori has never worked in a 9-5 office setting. She always knew she wanted to go into this field. *It’s painful to change, so that means the pain you experience has to be so great that it’ll motivate you to find alternative solutions. *Do you want to work evenings and weekends? Is that’s what's best for your lifestyle? No? Then why are you doing it?! *After you get out of school, it’s so hard to make the mental shift that you’re now, also, starting your own business. So many wellness practitioners invested in their craft, but don’t even invest in the business side of things! *If you want to stay at your full-time job and help people for free, that’s okay too. *Starting your own business isn’t for everyone. It takes a lot of self-work. *Unfortunately, it’s not profitable nor is it helpful to only see a client one time. So, why are we selling only single sessions? *What’s your ‘why’ to being a health practitioner? Like, the real why behind why you do what you do? *The only reason why someone doesn’t take action is because of what’s going on inside their head. *Lori has a course on how to create your own signature program without overwhelming yourself! Lori Imsdahl is a writer, travel-junkie, and graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. She served for five years as an Army officer, and while on active duty, she deployed to Afghanistan for fifteen months. When Lori returned to her hometown of Minneapolis, she learned that the act of "travel" is a mindset (a mindset steeped in curiosity and a willingness to get outside one's comfort zone), rather than a movement to a geographical destination. She believes you do not need to spend thousands of dollars and fly thousands of miles to travel. Rather, travel can happen every day in your own community, anytime you visit a neighborhood you don't normally visit or talk to a person you don't normally talk to. In 2015, Lori Interlicchio and Alana Duran swiped right on each other's Tinder profiles. They were both in their early 20s, and not looking for anything too serious. But on their first date, Alana told Lori that she has lupus—an autoimmune disease that, in Alana's case, has taken a major toll on her body. At that point, Alana had been on dialysis for four years. Her kidneys were failing. And after just three dates, Lori was thinking about offering to see if she could be a potential kidney donor match. "I called one of my former roommates and I started asking like, 'Is this absolutely insane or is this like, fine?'" Lori told me. "If a another person needs something that you don't need and aren't going to miss, then whatever, right? Why not give it to them?" Lori was a match. And starting their relationship with an organ donation has led to questions they've both had to address. When Lori got into law school just months after the surgery, she worried about leaving Alana behind. "I know that right now Alana is doing really well health-wise," Lori told me, "but I also know that that could change at any time." And Alana has had to grapple with what would happen if she decided to end their relationship. "Someone gave me a literal piece of them," Alana says. "I can't repay them for that. In my mind I was thinking that would come up, like, 'Oh, I can't break up with Lori because she gave me a kidney. That'd be terrible, people would be really really mad at me.'" Lori and Alana's story is documented in the new film Bean. Find out more about screening times here.
