God's heart is to care for those in need. As we receive from Him, we are then given the joy of sharing that with others. Missionaries and their Kids (MKs) have diverse experiences on the field – some of them incredibly positive and some are incredibly challenging. Often missionaries & MKs aren't seen as people in need (they are the ones who go, who care, who serve, who share the gospel). The missionary experience is a gift but transitioning to or from the field can be an immense challenge. Sometimes missionaries lack the tools and resources necessary to navigate this transition well. The Church across Canada has an opportunity to work together to care for missionary units in need.

A ceasefire deal has just been reached.   In the past, Israelis have been united in elation and relief about the return of hostages, even at a high cost to national security. But not this time. Far-right MKs and ultranationalists had vigorously decried the deal, protesting any concession that would allow Hamas to hold on to power, no matter how small. What is behind their bitter dissent, and will this deepen rifts in Israeli society?   In this episode, recorded as the deal was still being finalized, Donniel Hartman and Yossi Klein Halevi consider closure, family loyalty, and the basic value of derech eretz (common decency) in negotiating the return of the hostages, and why the lens for ultranationalists in Israel is so starkly different.   JOIN OUR EMAIL LIST FOR MORE HARTMAN IDEAS Sponsor an upcoming episode of For Heaven's Sake. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Political correspondent Sam Sokol joins host Jessica Steinberg on today's show. Sokol discusses the political machinations in the Knesset as voting over the 2025 budget leads National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and several ultra-Orthodox parties to threaten to oppose the bill, given some of the planned cuts. While Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich have banded together in the past over their political aspirations, the two have been at odds for some time, which could possibly lead to a break in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition, explains Sokol. Sokol reviews the further political dramas that played out on Tuesday in the Knesset, as Netanyahu, recovering from a successful prostate removal surgery at the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, was forced to leave his hospital bed and return to the Knesset, in order to cast a decisive vote on the budget law, and thwart Ben Gvir. Another Knesset member, Likud MK Boaz Bismuth, who was in the midst of the seven-day mourning period for his mother, was also pushed to leave the shiva and come to the Knesset and vote in favor of the bill. Sokol also offers a brief description of the fragment of a Houthi missile that landed in his Beit Shemesh neighborhood late Monday night. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Political correspondent Sam Sokol and reporter Diana Bletter join host Amanda Borschel-Dan on today's episode. Recently, attempts are being made to restart the controversial judicial overhaul legislation and last week, Sokol spoke with one of its architects, MK Simcha Rothman. We hear about Rothman’s perspective on why it is needed and in fact protects Israel's democracy. The Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee will soon begin holding hearings on a proposed bill applying a Basic Law requiring a public referendum for land-for-peace deals to the West Bank and Israeli territorial waters, the Knesset’s right-wing Land of Israel Caucus announced on Wednesday. What is this bill and why do those who proposed it believe it will be passed at this time. Bletter went to the northern coastal city of Nahariya yesterday to witness how during the ceasefire, hospitals are moving from war footing and out of their bunkers. She brings tales from the maternity ward. Last week, Bletter visited Haifa to see how residents are -- once again -- celebrating the annual Holiday of Holidays that honors the mixed city's three major religions. Horovitz speaks about recent comments made by Defense Minister Israel Katz about the IDF remaining in Gaza, as a way of reiterating Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's positioning in the current ceasefire negotiations. He also looks at what's being said about a possible hostage deal and a sense of progress on some kind of three-phase deal, no longer conditioned by Hamas on Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, given a clear softening of Hamas' position. Horovitz discusses the latest in Netanyahu's government coalition, which was able to pass budget legislation even when Otzma Yehudit's leader, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir voted against parts of the budget legislation as a show of defiance and disagreement over the judicial overhaul and his desire to fire Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara. BUFFALO, NY- December 4, 2024 – A new #research paper was #published in Aging (listed by MEDLINE/PubMed as "Aging (Albany NY)" and "Aging-US" by Web of Science) Volume 16, Issue 21 on November 22, 2024, entitled, “The effects of young and aged, male and female megakaryocyte conditioned media on angiogenic properties of endothelial cells.” Researchers Murad K. Nazzal, Hanisha L. Battina, Nikhil P. Tewari, Sarah L. Mostardo, Rohit U. Nagaraj, Donghui Zhou, Olatundun D. Awosanya, Saveda K. Majety, Sue Samson, Rachel J. Blosser, Ushashi C. Dadwal, Patrick L. Mulcrone, and Melissa A. Kacenaat from Indiana University School of Medicine and Richard L. Roudebush Veterans' Administration Medical Center, have uncovered how certain bone marrow cells, called megakaryocytes (MKs), promote the growth of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) to aid in bone healing. Their findings help explain why healing slows with age and offer insights into potential treatments to accelerate fracture recovery in older adults. Broken bones are common in older adults, and slower healing can lead to complications and longer hospital stays. Accelerating the healing process could significantly improve the quality of life for millions. In this study, researchers investigated the effects of substances secreted by MKs, collected from young and older male and female mice. These substances, known as conditioned media (CM), were tested for their ability to stimulate the growth and function of endothelial cells (EC), which form the building blocks of blood vessels. Blood vessels play a critical role in healing by delivering oxygen and nutrients to damaged areas, making angiogenesis a vital part of the recovery process. The results showed that CM from younger MKs mice was more effective at helping blood vessels grow. Interestingly, MKs from female mice performed better than those from males, regardless of age. For example, substances from female MKs mice boosted blood vessel growth by over 115% and significantly improved the movement of cells needed for healing. The researchers also studied changes in genes related to blood vessel growth, and found that aging affects how these genes work. These changes may explain why older people heal more slowly after breaking a bone. “An understanding of which factors regulate which mechanisms of EC functionality may allow for isolation of one or a few factors that influence EC migration changes with aging, resulting in the development of targeted therapy to improve EC migration, subsequent angiogenesis, and fracture healing.” In conclusion, this research paves the way for developing new therapies to help older individuals recover from fractures more quickly, reducing pain and improving mobility. One potential approach could involve creating treatments that replicate the effects of MKs from younger individuals or isolating the specific substances that promote blood vessel growth. This represents an important step toward addressing the growing challenge of delayed healing in an aging population. DOI - https://doi.org/10.18632/aging.206077 Corresponding authors - Patrick L. For 2000 years Christians have heeded the call of The Great Commission to “go into all the world.” Christian missionaries have become some of the heroes of the faith, the subject of books, songs, and movies. But we rarely hear about the children of these missionaries. In the past few years, stories of spiritual and sexual abuse of missionary kids have started making news. Sometimes, even when there is no abuse, there is neglect and isolation, as many missionary kids, or MKs, are shuttled off to boarding schools, or follow their parents from one missionary assignment to another, often having to leave friends and support structures behind. Recent research suggests that there are more than 425,000 Christian missionaries in the world today, and many hundreds of thousands of current and former missionary kids. Recent research suggests that MKs experience childhood trauma at a rate nearly twice that of kids raised in the United States. The result is that MKs are often left with questions about God and their own faith if their own commitment doesn't match their missionary parents. Joy Smalley was one of those missionary kids. Her parents were missionaries to Mongolia, and she was raised in conditions that at times compromised her safety and caused her to question her own faith. Ultimately, she did not reject her faith, and her story is one that evangelicals need to hear if we hope not only to be obedient to the Great Commission, but also to be obedient to Scripture's commands to “suffer the children” in our midst, to protect them and raise them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Her book is Abraham's Daughter: Healing Trauma from a Childhood in Missions. She spoke to me from her home in Tustin, California. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. I'm your host Warren Smith. Please join me on Friday when Natasha Cowden and I recap the week's news. Until then, may God bless you.

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Editor David Horovitz joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan on today's episode. Yesterday, Einav Zangauker, the mother of a hostage held by Hamas, published a short video filmed in the Gaza Strip after the October 7 attack, but recently discovered. Horovitz speaks about her decision to release the video now. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to address Congress this afternoon and will meet United States President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday at the White House, and former president Donald Trump on Friday in Miami. We hear the potential points Netanyahu is likely to make. Rescued hostage Noa Argamani tearfully told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a meeting Monday that her most difficult experience during her eight months of captivity was hearing the premier declare that the war was going to be long. Argamani's comments came even as she and her father faced virulent criticism from some left-wing journalists and others for agreeing to accompany Netanyahu on his visit to the US, leading to condemnations by both coalition and opposition lawmakers. Horovitz weighs in. Education Minister Yoav Kisch on Tuesday told the heads of local authorities that students from northern communities evacuated because of the war would not be able to return to school in their hometowns in September and would instead continue to attend schools elsewhere in Israel. While the Knesset is set to break for recess this week, we hear how there is much more work MKs could be doing for their nation at war. The National Security Council on Sunday told Israelis traveling to Paris for the Olympics to exercise increased caution, warning that it believes that global jihadist and Iran-backed terror organizations “are seeking to carry out attacks on Israeli/Jewish targets around the Olympics.” Horovitz speaks about the increasing perception that Israel is a pariah nation. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Editor David Horovitz joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan on today's episode. Early today, the Knesset voted not to establish a Palestinian state through a resolution co-sponsored by parties in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition together with right-wing parties from the opposition. Why now? In the name of not meddling in the American presidential elections, far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has suggested to security cabinet ministers that a hostage-ceasefire deal with Hamas should be delayed. Horovitz weighs in. Mossad chief David Barnea told a security cabinet meeting Tuesday that young female hostages held by Hamas don't have time to wait for a new hostage deal framework, according to unsourced leaks from the gathering that were widely reported by Hebrew media outlets Wednesday. We hear about some of the voices from within the coalition supporting the deal. Aides to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are optimistic that some progress has been made in his yearslong effort to re-ingratiate himself with Donald Trump, after the former president reposted Netanyahu's video condemning Saturday's assassination attempt, according to a Wednesday report. Could the two meet up during Netanyahu's upcoming trip? The IDF is set to begin sending initial draft orders on Sunday, summoning haredi men to the induction center to begin their physical and other testing ahead of their draft. Horovitz discusses the hot-button issue. For news updates, please check out The Times of Israel's ongoing live blog. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. It is day 234 of the war with Hamas. Editor David Horovitz joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. The commander of Hamas's so-called "West Bank headquarters" and another top official in the terror group were killed in last night's Israeli airstrike in Rafah, according to the IDF. The strike, according to Hamas health officials, killed some 35 people. In the strike's wake, Hamas said that Palestinians must “rise up and march” against the Israeli army's “massacre” in Gaza's far-southern city of Rafah. How seriously we should take this call to march from Hamas? Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said this morning that he will ask the other 26 European Union member states to issue official backing to the International Court of Justice and take steps to ensure Israel respects its decisions. What other international reactions are we seeing in light of last night's strike. Hamas fired eight rockets at central Israel yesterday afternoon, marking the most significant attack out of the Gaza Strip in some four months and underscoring some of the challenges remaining for the Israeli military as it seeks to oust the Palestinian group from its last major stronghold. While some MKs call for the chief of staff's ouster, Horovitz explains what these rockets from Rafah may represent. National Unity leader and war cabinet minister Benny Gantz submitted Sunday morning to the cabinet secretariat a proposal for a government resolution to establish a state commission of inquiry into the events surrounding the October 7 Hamas invasion and massacre and the subsequent, ongoing war in Gaza. Too soon? The Israeli military's envoy to negotiations aimed at freeing hostages held in Gaza expressed hopelessness over the chances of reaching a deal with the current government at the helm, according to a report on Sunday, the latest in a series of apparently leaked statements broadcasting the IDF general's frustration with Jerusalem's refusal to move closer to Hamas's position in negotiations. What agenda is this leak serving? The B'nai B'rith World Center in Jerusalem gave awards to two Israeli journalists on Sunday evening at an annual ceremony recognizing excellence in reporting on Diaspora Jewry. The two reporters recognized were Canaan Lidor, The Times of Israel's Jewish World reporter, and Channel 12's Europe correspondent Elad Simchayoff. Former Israeli government spokesman Eylon Levy gave a keynote address at the event, calling to create an elite unit of professional spokespeople in all languages and all time zones. If you will it, it is no dream? For the latest updates, please see The Times of Israel's ongoing live blog. Teraz to już jednak nie ma znaczenia. Play-offy dla nas wszystkich są czymś czego dawno nie przezywaliśmy" - mówi w rozmowie z RMF FM Dominik Wilczek z MKS-u Dąbrowy Górniczej. Koszykarze dąbrowskiej drużyny po 5 latach znów zagrają w fazie play-off Orlen Basket Ligi. Awans drużynie z województwa śląskiego dała wygrana z GKT Gliwice w ostatniej kolejce sezonu zasadniczego. O nadchodzących meczach z Treflem Sopot, a także o fazie zasadniczej sezonu z zawodnikiem MKS-u Dąbrowa Górnicza rozmawiał Wojciech Marczyk z redakcji sportowej RMF FM.

12 ministers and 15 MKs, including from the Likud,  attended a so-called Victory Conference in Jerusalem on Sunday night  in support of renewed Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip. The conference was headlined: “Settlement produces security.” One of the organizers of Sunday's conference was veteran settler activist Daniella Weiss. She told KAN's Mark Weiss that 400 families have signed up so far to resettle in Gaza and the Palestinians there should be forced to leave. Episode 74 - Moon Knight - City of the Dead This week we are continue our look at recent Moon Knight series.  First up we dive into issues number 21-24 of the currently Moon Knight comic, and then its on to the 5-issue limited series City of the Dead, where we see the comic debut of a character fans of the TV show are already very familiar with.  This Week's Stack Moon Knight (2021-2023) #21-24 Moon Knight: City of the Dead (2023) #1-5 Issue Recaps and Discussion Topics Moon Knight (2021-2023) #21-24 21 - The Reese issue (with a Jake cameo)  22 - Follow the money  22 - This is when he's happy  23 - Resolution through non-violence  24 - Morpheus enters The Big Sleep courtesy of Black Spectre  24 – He tries to give Mark, Steven and Jake some peace before he goes Moon Knight: City of the Dead (2023) #1-5 Cross-pollination – New characters starting in TV or movies and then making the jump to comics is still unusual, but is happening more.    This feels very much like something Doug Moench might have written.  Reminds me a bit of Vol 3's “The Resurrection War.”  See our PotMK episode entitled “It Turns Out He Was Only Mostly Dead” for more on that.  A lot of character narration over the action. Characters introduced themselves every issue.  Do all faiths end up in the Duat in the Marvel universe?  This I do not understand.  It also seems weird that there are cars and modern cities.    This is a bit of a “greatest hits” album, bringing back almost all of MKs old foes – or at least the truly villainous ones.  No Scarlett, for instance. Legion of the Unliving is quite the name.  It's always Randall when you least expect it!  We have a Khonshu sighting  Also is a bit weird, in that it finishes with Layla saying “Be Seeing you, Marc.”  Will she??  On Earth?  Or back in the Duat?  I think Lyla is back on earth. Resurrected for her help defeating Jackal Knight Randall  What's up with him just completely forgetting about the fact he has a girlfriend?  Greer deserves better than this guy.  Final Thoughts What's Next  Moon Knight (2021-2023) #25-30 Signoff  Questions or comments We'd love to hear from you!  Email us at questions@comicsovertime.com or find us on Twitter @comicsoftime. ------------------ Music Intro and Outro created by Lesfm.

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday. Diplomatic correspondent Lazar Berman and Knesset correspondent Carrie Keller-Lynn. This week President Isaac Herzog called Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas ahead of today's Eid al-Adha Muslim holiday, the second most important feast of the year. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant also spoke with senior Palestinian Authority official Hussein al-Sheikh. What was significant about these phone calls? Yesterday Defense Minister Yoav Gallant signed administrative detention orders to hold four Jewish extremists involved in recent attacks against Palestinians without charges. What was the blowback from settler movement leaders and MKs? Could this ramped-up measure of administrative detention have anything to do with the call between US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Foreign Minister Eli Cohen this week or Blinken's double down yesterday in New York? This morning, the Wall Street Journal published an interview with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Any clues for the future? We end with Berman's recap of revolving diplomatic doors this week with ambassadors from Ukraine, Russia and Israel all being called to the carpet. Discussed articles include: Herzog calls Abbas to urge fight against terror, condemn settler violence Gallant orders four Israelis to be held without charge over West Bank riots Blinken says US extremely concerned about settler violence against Palestinians Blinken: West Bank unrest makes Israel-Saudi deal much ‘tougher, if not impossible' Russia summons Israeli envoy for rebuke over comments by ambassador to Ukraine Subscribe to The Times of Israel Daily Briefing on iTunes, Spotify, PlayerFM, Google Play, or wherever you get your podcasts.
