Its easy to assume that because you are an introvert, that you are not going to feel comfortable showing up online. I hear that all the time. That is why this conversation needed to happen, because that is just a misconception. Being introverted and being fearful of showing up online is indeed two different things. Your fear of showing up online stems from a deeper rooted fear. It could be a fear of: Failure Being embarrassed Other people's opinions People not relating Whatever that fear is, THAT is what is holding you back from showing up online. Not from being introverted. Guess what - When I started doing FB lives, I would sweat through my shirt I was so nervous. Every time I do something new, I will sweat right through my shirt. You need to get uncomfortable to learn how to be comfortable with doing something new. You need to work through that fear and anxiety around the challenge that you face, or the challenge will win. Scout Sobel & I are chatting today about this major misconception - both as introverts who indeed are very much online. Talking about productivity just fuels my soul. We hear often from our clients that prior to the 10K Success System, they were on the verge of burnt out from trying to build their businesses alone. They were working their asses off, yet they were not moving the needle. All of the effort that was going in, was not being directed into the tasks that would propel them forward in business. We see a lottttt of time wasted on things like websites, logos, and branding, and little effort being spent on setting up structure and obtaining clients. Productivity is everything - and productivity comes with clarity. Chris Bello, host of the EMP podcast , joins us on the show today to talk about how you can hone in your big thoughts and ideas, and create a productivity plan that will help move the needle. More About Chris Bello: Chris Bello is a college graduate that quit his corporate job 3 years in. He wanted to take hold of the reigns of life and write his own story. After struggling with one side-hustle after another, he went all in on residential real estate, where he has quickly caught momentum. Welcome back to the Business of Becoming where I am taking you on a journey of where I have been, where I am now, and where I plan on going in the years to come. This two part extravaganza was really special for me to record, as my goal was to have an off the cuff conversation, at this exact moment in time. For all of you who might be new to my world, you should know I am an avid journaler. I have journals dating back decades that have a mismatch of information that act as a time capsule for my thoughts during that moment in time. This is what I was wanting from this two-part series. I wanted to go through all of my biggest learning curves, successes, failures, pivotal moments, etc. I am going to look back on this in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years, and be able to see exactly where I was, and where I wanted to go at this point in time. So grab a coffee or tea, get comfortable, and get ready for the second part of this time capsule series! This is a conversation that I was so happy to have on The Business of Becoming. While I was growing and scaling The Wellness Business Hub, and while I was going through the phases and growing pains, I noticed that there was a lot of advice that would come my way, however only a fraction of what was said was actually true or helpful. I found that everyone likes to give their opinions and advice, even if they have never been a CEO. Or even if they have never scaled a 6 figure company to 7, or to 8. I will even get business advice and opinions from those who have never owned a business. That being said, I still highly believe in business coaching and mentorship. The trick is to look for mentors that have already made it within the space you are looking to get into, or within the industry you are looking to work in. On today's episode, I am discussing The Truth and Lies of Entrepreneurship with Yuri Elkaim. Yuri and I took a very similar business journey within the Health and Wellness industry, so I was thrilled to have him join me to tackle some of the common misconceptions, and the raw truths, of entrepreneurship. Tune in, and I would love to hear your thoughts on this episode, so be sure to send me DM on Instagram! These types of conversations charge me right up. It's 2021. The way you show up online, especially as a personal brand, is the reason that your clients will either be drawn to you, or decide to pass on what you have to offer. .. And thats even before they understand what you have to offer. Your clients decision on whether or not they want to work with you happens before they look into your offer, credentials, or education. That's where this conversation comes into play. Figuring out how to step into your power, your leadership, your energy, and your audaciousness is a requirement to having a personal brand in 2021. Erin King joins me today to share her story, her tips and strategies for how to show up audaciously online. It's been a minute since I've had a candid conversation with you all, so I thought, no better time than for the finale of Season two! … and don't worry, I am only taking a short break, and will be back the first week of July. I wanted to take this opportunity to have a free flowing conversation with you and answer some important, bigger picture questions that I have recently received in my DMs' on Instagram. Starting with the question from Jenn Pike. Jenn asked me a question that I thought was such an important question that we all should circle back to regularly. “How do you celebrate?” How can you celebrate and maintain that high level of delight, when things are always growing and moving very quickly? Having constant change allows for so much celebration, that at times it's overwhelming. Here's what I think. And I'll preface this with I know that this isn't the case for every CEO. It is important to set milestones and KPIs for your team, and celebrate your team when the goal is reached. They deserve to feel acknowledged for the work that they have put in to reach the goal. For myself.. I don't celebrate my own little milestones, becauses I actually expect them to happen. I am not saying that I am not grateful.. Because I am grateful for everything that I am able to do and achieve every single day. But what I am saying is that reaching the goals and milestones is my purpose for growth. I want to integrate the feeling of hitting milestones into my state constantly. So I celebrate the milestones with my team, and recognize this amazing company that is able to transform lives. That will always be worth celebrating. Tune in to hear the other questions in this episode! Until we are back in July, I want you to hear a little more about the exciting summer that we have planned : Get Your Summer On Us! Get Your Summer On US!: What has been holding you back from launching your business and taking steps to secure your future? If you have been waiting for the perfect time, here it is! Speaking to Jan brought out my happy tears. Oftentimes I find myself in deep conversations with clients about inspiration. Clients look to me for inspiration and they don't realize that I am being inspired by them right back. I am only as successful as my clients. My team is only as successful as our clients are. Client success is why we do what we do, and it is our biggest goal and priority as a company. So hearing Jan's success, and her development and growth throughout the 10K Success System brought out all the happy tears. Jan came to us highly educated and filled with ideas and a burning passion to change lives. She embodies the motto of trusting your gut, and leading with instincts. The one thing that Jan was missing was the structure and knowledge of how to put her company together in a way that all of her passions and interests could form the perfect signature program. Her fire, her passion, and her knowledge is why her clients love her. .. and we are so honored to have been able to help her create that structure and the platform from which she can operate from. I love a full circle moment. Tia started exploring her journey with us and fully investing in herself and her online business in March of 2020. Tia had a mental block to overcome - and it was the fear of uncertainty “You're going to have uncertainty until you have certainty. And the only way you have certainty is if you dive in.” - Tia Slightham Tia had the choice. To grow her business slowly, and stay on the fence; Or to dive head first into that uncertainty and trust herself and the 10K process. She took the jump. Tia was able to make her investment back long before she graduated. Tia has sold 74 programs in 8 months. Tia has upped the cost of her program multiple times and has been since able to hire staff into her company to support the growth and development. This is why we do what we do- and your success is our success. If you're interested in learning how you can create the online business of your dreams, book your fast track call now! Listen to your instincts. Why is trusting ourselves so hard to do? We all have wired mindsets that dismiss our natural instincts to try and protect us, and yet these mindsets are what is hindering our success. When you want something - go for it. We here people say things like : I could never be successful online I cannot make money following my passions My training only taught me one direction, and I cant deviate from the path I don't want to leave the safety of my day to day corporate job Guess what: The most successful people out there didn't start on their path knowing where they would end up. Their paths were not streamlined to becoming CEOs. … and my path was definitely not streamlined. I did not become a Nutritionist thinking that I would ever become the CEO of a 8 figure company, supporting entrepreneurs creating their online businesses. I put trust in myself and took my future into my own hands, and now I get the honor of interviewing others that have done the same. Dr. M has such an inspirational story, where she took the non-traditional route to land herself as the founder of Bowen College. Dr. M started on her path with training as a ND. She quickly found that her passion was listening to her patients and helping them with the connection that they have with their own bodies. Her training started her path in the health and wellness industry, and following her passions led her to the success she has found now. More on Dr. Manon Bolliger: As a Naturopathic Medical Doctor and CEO of Bowen College where she has trained over 2500 healthcare practitioners in her methodology. Dr. M (Manon Bolliger), helps people take ownership of their choices in health. The best-selling author of “What Patients Don't Say if Doctors Don't Ask”, she helps people release chronic physical and emotional pain by helping them focus on their “health-nosis” and not their diagnosis. She has spoken on international stages like JTFoxx's Money, Health, and Business, TEDx TenayaPaseo in Las Vegas, is the host of The Healer's Cafe podcast and has appeared on ABC, CTV and NBC. While overcoming stage 4 CA without pharmaceutical or a hysterectomy, she discovered that we are accustomed to thinking that conflict resolution is mediated externally. But when it comes to health, it is an internal process. She has pioneered the ‘A Healer in Every Household' Movement embracing the body's capacity to heal and the choice to govern our lives. Her new book “A Healer in Every Household: Simple Solutions for Stress” has just launched in October 2020. You can connect with Dr .Manon Bolliger on her Instagram or Website! I work in the Health and Wellness Industry. I help businesses within the Health and Wellness industry grow. This is why this conversation is one of the most important and impactful conversations that I have had thus far on The Business of Becoming. I have had amazing guests in the past touch on the biases and non-inclusive ways that the industry portrays and represents itself as. The conversation that I didn't have was how we can work together to impact the growth of this industry. That's why I reached out to thought leader Chrissy King to see if she would be interested in talking to us today about anti-racism diversity inclusion. The Health and Wellness Industry should provide an inclusive space where all people are able to live well, whatever that means for them, and to be able to show up in the body that they have, and feel safe. And that's not happening right now. Tune in. Get ready to listen with your guards down. Let's make the change that this industry is needing. More on Chrissy King : Chrissy King is a writer, speaker, strength coach, and educator with a passion for creating a diverse and inclusive wellness industry. She empowers individuals to stop shrinking, start taking up space, and use their energy to create their specific magic in the world. With degrees in Social Justice and Sociology from Marquette University, Chrissy merges her passion for Social Justice and her passion for fitness to empower individuals within the fitness and wellness industry to create spaces that allow individuals from all backgrounds to feel seen, welcome, respected, and celebrated. This experience is a universal experience for those in the Health and Wellness field. I experienced it through my education as a Nutritionist. My clients have experienced it throughout their various educations as a ND, MD, NP... you name it. In the education provided for Health and Wellness Practitioners, we are taught how to provide the care for our clients once we already established the client. We are not taught how to get the clients in the first place. Furthermore, we are typically taught two different brick and mortar pathways to success: First one: You get your education, you start up a practice, and you are successful. Second one: You get your education, you go and work for another practice, and you are successful. Neither of those options give you a glimpse of what you could actually do with your education. Nor are they close to the truth. If you've tried to open a practice without understanding how to get clients... You know what I'm talking about. You do not need to follow the path that's drilled in through education… You can find time freedom and financial freedom while impacting hundreds of lives through your online practice. You just need to know how. Dr. Kelsey Duncan joins us on this episode to tell her story of how she was able to apply her education online, and build the company of her dreams. Have you ever found yourself running on autopilot, and not checking in or asking yourself “is this situation right for me?” I know I've been there. This is a place that so many of us find ourselves in without even realizing it. We have a list of our daily needs, the ones that we are responsible for to keep our family and households running. Then we add on work, school, entrepreneurship, friendships, relationships… The list goes on and on. I know personally, I've found myself taking on extra tasks, or saying “yes” to too many opportunities. But we all need to stop and ask ourselves: “Is this lifestyle that I am living, helping me or hurting me?” Liesl Hays joins us today on The Business of Becoming to share her powerful story of finding herself in crisis, and how she was able to take a step back and find herself again. It was so refreshing to have Liesl on the show and speak so openly and from a place of pure vulnerability, to allow for us to better understand the steps that she took to take a hold of her life. Are you struggling with time management? Or struggling with setting boundaries with the cast of people in your life? If the answer is yes, listening to this episode is a MUST! More on Liesl Hays: Liesl Hays is a word artist, truth-teller, choice-maker, and inspirer. In 2016, Liesl was broken. Her marriage was barely surviving, she was working sixty hours a week at her corporate job, and she was usually the last mom to pick her kids up from daycare. She was in crisis. In a brave effort to change her life, she left a decade-long career in human resources and opened an Inn located in downtown Lee's Summit, Missouri. Entrepreneurship taught Liesl the value of trusting her inner voice, setting boundaries, and balancing her work and family. She has rearranged her life to live in alignment with her truest, most authentic self. In her latest evolution, she is an author, serial entrepreneur, and Human Resources Consultant. Liesl runs on coffee, “to-do lists”, and the belief life begins after you agree to write your own story. Have you considered that the fear of investing in your online business might be the only thing that's holding you back from living the life you are longing for? It's hard to conceptualize. Think about it this way. If you were opening a restaurant, you would need to purchase items like tables, chairs, food, cutlery, etc. Those purchases would be a no brainer - you simply cannot have a restaurant without them. Online businesses act in the same fashion. You need to invest in the tools, platform, tech, and knowledge so you can build out your program and marketing machine. It also should be a no brainer. Kylie Pinwill came into the 10K Success System with the same fears and hesitation. She was hesitant on investing in these online tools, but decided to trust her intuitions. Once Kylie enrolled, she was able to work the process with guidance from our coaches to get her closer to her goals and aspirations. Fast forward to today, she has a super successful online business that is impacting hundreds of clients and with a growing staff on board. This fear mindset can be the biggest hurdle to jump, but the most rewarding when you decide to invest in yourself. More About Kylie: Kylie works with women over 40, to help inspire and empower women to take control of their health and hormones. From an accredited nutritionist to a 6 figure entrepreneur, Kylie is a graduate of the 10K Success System, $10K Grow, and a current member of the Freedom Mastermind, aiming for 7 and Beyond! I want to share an interesting fact about our 10K clients. All of our 10K clients come into the program with different sized budgets for running ads. Some are spending minimal amounts, and others are able to push those limits higher. Regardless of how much money they are placing on ads, they are all using the same framework. The framework and the mindset that's developed is built while setting up a signature program is the same for those who go through the program with a large ads budget, or for those going through and spending minimally. This program provides a deep understanding into how to effectively run an online business. Period. These skills and the framework is what our clients are able to rely on when facing all of the unknowns that pop up throughout their business journey. We wanted to have this conversation on the L&L Morning show, and we were thrilled to have Tameka Means join in for this discussion. Tameka Means was a 10K Success System Scholarship winner, and she has been working her ass off in the program. We are honored to be a part of her story in developing her signature program. Tameka was able to create her program, and use AD FREE methods to get clients and traction with her online business. If you have been following me, for any length of time, you know how passionate I am about discussing mindset, mental models and mental health. I regularly dive into my own thought processes, deconstructing and analyzing the mental models I have in place, and try and call out my biases around decision-making as a leader. Lately, and especially during the “season” that the world has faced for over a year now, I have been noticing a strain. I've noticed the added stress, tension, and worry on myself and fellow leaders around me, so I wanted to call it out. I wanted to have a discussion around this and to really focus on why we struggle to ask for help, when help is wanted or needed. Roxanne Francis, a Toronto based Psychotherapist, joins me today to talk about the struggles that leaders, especially women, are facing both personally and professionally Your reminders for today: Boundaries Are Not Rude Your Struggles Are Valid “Lean In” To Your Community You Deserve To Receive Support More About Roxanne Francis: Roxanne Francis is a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist who has been helping people access tools to change their lives for over 10 years. So you are a new graduate in the Health and Wellness field… where do you start? Do you rent a booth at a trade show to advertise your new business? Do you go door to door with flyers? Or leave business cards and advertisements in local shops? How do you intend to make a buzz about your practice and attract the right clients? Dr. Stacey Goldman did all of the above, and more. After graduation, Dr. Stacey Goldman, ND, tried all methods of attracting clients that she was told about in her schooling, and it was draining. But she got the clients. So happy ending right? Well… not exactly. Because Stacey was advertising to all and accepting everyone who walked in the door, she quickly became overwhelmed and burnt out. She didn't have a niche, and she was stretching herself thin to cover all the issues that her clients were wanting addressed. That's when she decided to move her practice online, and join the 10K Success System. Listen to this episode for Dr. Stacey Goldman's amazing journey with creating the Metabolism Master Code. One of the most frequently asked questions that we receive is “Can I run my practice online while still abiding by the strict regulations within my professional licencing?” And our answer is... YES. Yes, you can. Running an online business while abiding by your province, state, or country's rules and regulations is our area of expertise. I always say to our audience that if you are licenced, you need to work with someone who knows the ins and outs of the regulations and laws around your practice. Don't sign up with a team that cannot help you with the legal side of your business. If you don't work with us, that's totally fine! But make sure if you are looking for help moving your practice online, that you hire someone that is fully experienced with navigating your licensing and that this is their specific field or work. ...and back to this episode. Laura and I interviewed Andrea Fallon of Wholehearted Family Health on the L&L Morning Show about her journey with creating an Online Business as a Midwife & Child Health Nurse in Australia. Andrea came to the 10K program craving freedom away from shift work and a career that provided flexibility for her family. Andrea has since been able to create a practice that sticks within the Australian regulation board, and she is able to navigate it with a growth mindset. Wholehearted Family Health is now a fully thriving online business. More on Andrea Fallon: Andrea Fallon is a midwife, child health nurse, and neuroprotective developmental care practitioner with over 14 years experience in both tertiary and community settings. Prior to creating Wholehearted Family Health, she was one of the founding team members of Moort Boodjari Mia, an award-winning, midwifery-led, Aboriginal maternity service in Perth, Western Australia. How can you possibly make a signature program when you wear so many hats? How can you have an ICA when you target so many different types of people? These questions were on the top of Lisa's mind when she joined 10K. Lisa was rewriting her job description to suit each opportunity that came her way, and how was that possibly going to fly while working an online business? Are you more afraid of failure, or success? What a loaded question. It's easy to believe that our minds are wired to want success. But in all actuality, the way that our minds are wired can be a leading factor that's holding us back. In our lives, “the longer we have sat with thoughts of doubt, the more room we gave for doubt to feel familiar. So anything and everything else starts to feel threatening. The idea of being happy and successful starts to feel threatening because we're not used to it” - (Tallia) So how can you break free of these thoughts of doubt and fear? How can you work on rewiring your thought process to allow your patterns and habits to form around healthy thoughts? In this episode, Tallia Dejou joins me to dissect the subconscious mental blocks that we have around fear of failure, so we can start peeling off our layers of learned fear, in order to step into our own power. More About Tallia Deljou: Tallia Deljou is a positive psychology expert and life coach teaching people how to break through their own bullshit so they can find themselves and free their purpose. Here to help people wake up to the dreams written on their heart, she is committed to giving people the tools to self-coach and self-heal so they can lead more honest lives. She hosts the #7daysofdiscomfort challenge on Instagram to help people break through their biggest obstacles and shares insights on her Forbes' featured podcast, Sincerely Me. This episode is one that I have been wanting to have for a while. We see our clients struggling with getting in front of their cameras to record their content, or to go live and “show up” in their groups. When we ask “What is actually holding you back?”, it always boils down to lack of confidence, and unrealistic milestones that they are trying to achieve before putting themselves out there. “I need to lose X amount of weight before I get on camera” “I don't need to show myself, I will just use audio” “I don't look like a (insert health/wellness profession), so clients would not take me seriously” All of these mental blocks are SO common, and yet they hold so many people back. Dr. Jillian Murphy, owner of the Food Freedom Body Love Method, joins me to break down why individuals, women in particular, struggle with confidence around their body image, and how that leads to a breakdown in confidence in their work. More About D.r Jillian Murphy: Jillian Murphy works to help diverse, smart, health-conscious, people (who are DONE WITH DIETING), get out of their heads and reconnect with their bodies. She uses up-to-date eating psychology, clinical insight & guidance around diet culture, health, and weight to teach individuals WHY they stay stuck in negative patterns with food and feel constant body dissatisfaction and HOW they can make the shift to food peace and body joy. WELCOME BACK! .. And welcome to season two of The Business of Becoming. This season is all about Women Who Lead. I have had the pleasure of interviewing some AMAZING leaders in the Health and Wellness industry… so let's get right to it! For the first episode, I thought it would be best to showcase the leaders that I am fortunate enough to work with every single day - The Wellness Business Hubs' C-Suite Team. On this episode, Michelle, Laura and Christine join me to discuss how we handle work pressures while toggling between our business lives and our personal lives, so that we can show up to work every single day and lead, to the very best of our ability. Whether we are leading our team, our individual departments, or whether we are coaching our clients, we aim to consistently grow our own selves and to improve our own selves with a capital S, so that we can lead at a high, high level. When you are growing your own business, the pressure and the noise magnifies as you go from 6-7-8 figures, and we're talking about how we are able to hold space for dozens and dozens of people who support this company. ...Also, Have You Heard? We made it. The final episode of season ONE of The Business of Becoming. Don't worry - We are kicking off season two on April 1st, 2021 and we are featuring Women Who Lead - you won't want to miss out! But in this final wrap-up - I chose to go out with a bang. In this episode, I am summing up the 5 most important habits I've integrated into my life to help me fast track my success. Let me start by saying that I did not nor do I still have it all figured out. There are days where I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing and when I have those days, I fall back on my habits. You might not resonate with all 5 habits and that's ok. My wish for you is that you make a commitment to establishing your own habits so that you can create structure in your day. I can't remember where I heard this quote but it's worth repeating here: Structure gives you freedom. So I want you to commit to me that you will take the habits that resonate with you and make them work for you. Habit # 1: Magic Time When I first decided to take my business online in 2012, I was stretched to max capacity. I had two kids under 4, my program was being run in 9 locations, I was single, and I was trying to move my practice online. I called my business coach, crying, explaining how maxed out I was. He was not impressed. So wake up earlier. Make time. Earlier? How early? 5 am he said. Ok, I said. 5 am it is. I've been waking up at 5 am ever since. Even on weekends. I don't even need to set an alarm anymore. Magic time doesn't need to be at 5 am but you do need to carve out at least 60-90 minutes daily, 7 days a week to have focused time to work on the most important aspects of your business that will drive the business forward. Not having time is one of the biggest challenges we all face. I eliminated that challenge by committing to my morning magic time. So my challenge to you is to find 60-90 minutes a day, maybe not all in one chunk if necessary to work on the tasks that will grow your business and then fiercely protect that time. Habit # 2: Create Content Daily When I first started online I had no idea what I was doing. When I started my online business I was overwhelmed by how much content I needed to create. I was building up a list which meant that I had to create emails to send to them plus I was in the middle of creating another signature program that I was going to launch in a few months. There was a lot of content to create and there still is. What I realized is that if I am not showing up consistently, then my email subscribers wouldn't show up consistently either. I wanted to be top of mind which meant that my emails had to appear in their inboxes multiple times a week with regularity. So I used my morning magic time to write. I would spend 60 minutes and still do writing content that would be used to build rapport and educate my audience. My morning magic time was used for creating content. At first it took me way longer than 60 minutes to write an email but the more I practiced the easier it got and the better I got at it. This habit of spending at least 60 minutes a day writing is powerful. I do it during my morning magic time but you can decide when you're going to do it. The point is, if you want to grow your business, you need an audience who is engaged with you and the only way to make that happen is to consistently show up. Habit # 3 Plan Ahead I learned early in my business, and I learned the hard way that flying by the seat of my pants is a dangerous way to grow a business, especially when you start to bring on team members. Even if you are just scheduling a meeting with yourself, do it. Plan out your week, month, and quarter. When I started to plan ahead something magical happened. I became more organized and was able to create a project plan for each marketing campaign so that I could block off time in my calendar to create the elements needed to run a successful campaign. I planned ahead and I started to feel in control of the business instead of it controlling me. Before you spearhead a project, plan it out. When you have a plan in place, everything feels controllable. Habit # 4: Avoid checking email and social media in the morning I stopped checking my email and social media first thing, most days, because a couple of years ago I woke up to a very angry email from a client. I had a really important day ahead of me where I needed to focus, and that one email completely threw me. I am a highly sensitive person and it's hard for me to just shake things off. Here's one thing I know for sure. You will get those emails. You will get people who send you nasty comments on social media. You will have clients who never participated hate on you because they didn't get results and blame you. Getting those emails and comments comes with the territory but you don't need to wake up to them and have them ruin your day. So I made a promise to myself that I would only check my email after my magic time was done. My first priority is to grow my business and I can't do that if I'm feeling all insecure because someone said something negative to me. Instead of waking up and checking my email and social media I now have dedicated times throughout the day where I check. This way I know that I am in a good headspace to handle anything that comes my way. Habit # 5: Have accountability This isn't really a habit as it is a necessity, but I'm adding it here because having accountability is so important. While I am super motivated, there are many things that I've had to do that feel hard because they were outside of my comfort zone. It's really easy to push things off when you feel uncomfortable about when nobody else knows you need to do them. Maybe it's your first Facebook live or promoting your program or asking for help or raising your prices. I had a client the other day tell me she was going to raise her prices and then two weeks later she still hadn't done it. So I gave her some serious accountability. I've invested heavily into my own mentors and coaches because I know that I need that level of accountability. Growth is hard. And I need to be held accountable to my goals. So my challenge to you is to find a business coach or mentor, maybe it's me, that will hold you accountable to your goals so that you don't keep putting them off. I just had to share this session with you. Every time I dive into this topic, I gain more clarity in my own mental models, and I just LOVE that. Today, we are talking about your mental mindset, and trust me when I tell you, there is A LOT to unpack here, so let's dive in. Decision-making and understanding stable decision-making models takes practice and effort. Understanding your own belief systems, where they came from, how they help or hinder you- takes effort. As humans, we instinctively make decisions every single day. But when you're leading a business, and you have a client base depending on you, and your employees are putting faith in your decision making, leading by instinct and by your own belief systems that are not necessarily helpful, it's dangerous. You need to start observing yourself from an outsider's perspective because you are now responsible for so many people, (your clients and employees,) and it's unfair of you to not take on that level of awareness and ownership over your own systems. This episode dives into the decision-making process and how to ask yourself the right questions to better understand where your decisions come from in your business. Are you ready to talk about money shifts? Because I sure am. I am back to talk about hitting the elusive “10 million dollars in revenue” mark, and what changes I had to make, to get there. While reading this Forbes article a few years back, I read that only 2% of women-owned businesses surpass the $1 million mark. This statistic is one of the reasons that I do what I do, and why it's so important for me to come on here and share my experiences in business growth and financial success. I feel determined to help increase the amount of female-founded businesses to break the $1 million in revenue mark. Let's start with shift #1... Become familiar with your money story and work through it. A money story is a personal narrative about money. It makes up your beliefs, thoughts, and feelings about money – and affects your financial behaviors. - Women With Money What you heard growing up actually plays a huge part of the narrative that you tell yourself around money. Did you hear your parents fighting about money? Were your parents/guardians in constant fear about not having enough money, or making ends meet? Did your parents say passing comments like “Oh that person must be made of money” or “oh must be nice to be rich”? These comments shaped your money story, and unless you've gone in and done the work to revise that story, it might be holding you back. I didn't know I had a money story until I was confronted by it. I was sitting in a boardroom in a fancy California yacht club with 5 other men who were extremely successful. I was standing on the terrace looking at the massive yachts and I said, “I wonder what they do for a living, they must be so wealthy.” Michael, who was standing beside me said, they are no different than you, they put their pants on one leg at time. Do you see them as different from you? Do you believe that you can have this too? When he asked that last question, I felt like I could burst into tears. I didn't because I was in a room full of men. I didn't at the time. I did not believe that I could be that rich and frankly until I was confronted with it, I was still aiming too small. Think of how you conduct yourself on a daily basis now. Do you procrastinate? Do you avoid following up with potential clients? Do you talk potential clients out of the sale? This shift-- addressing your money story will be the most important thing you can ever do for your business and your life. Shift # 2: Know your numbers with precision I'm going to let you off the hook here by sharing an embarrassing fact with you. I didn't track anything in my business for years. I didn't have fancy spreadsheets or a pristinely organized Quickbooks account. I had a bank account that had money in it. If there was money in it, I was doing good. But here's the truth. That is a really stressful way to run and grow a business. So even if you're just starting out, don't make the same mistakes I did. When you have data, months or better yet, years worth of data, you can see patterns, you'll know that January is a slow month so when you only make half the sales you won't panic. When you track and have metrics you'll be able to plan for slow months by increasing monthly revenue goals in other months so that overall you hit your annual goal. Tracking your business metrics gives you confidence and security when it comes to making growth-based decisions in your business. When you have historical data, you're able to use that to predict with a degree of certainty. Let me take a pause here for a minute because tracking your numbers requires you to face your own efforts-- and your money story. If you are not tracking your numbers maybe it's because you think you don't have to or because you're not good at spreadsheets or math or it's boring or whatever… What is the reason you're not tracking? When we work with clients in Freedom Mastermind and they're all at the multi 6 or 7 figure mark and they aren't tracking we can't effectively guide them. Tying this back to my money story, if I never knew if I made profit then I would never be any different than anyone else. See how this all works? First, I asked Laura Wood, who is our chief revenue officer to share what she tracks, and then I'll bring in Christine, who is the CFO to share what she tracks and how it all ties together. I can promise you this, the only reason you're not tracking consistently is because of your money story… it's not because you don't know how. If you can do basic math, then you can track. Ok, moving on. Shift # 3: Plan for revenue When I first started planning content, it was ‘fly by the seat of my pants' because I didn't know any better. What does it mean to plan for revenue? In order to plan for revenue you need to have set monthly and quarterly revenue targets. You need to know what your monthly rev goal is, how many clients you need to enrol, how many calls you need booked or the number for whatever sales process you have. If you don't have your monthly target's how are you deciding what promotions to run or what offers to make? Our content isn't random. It's all intended to support our audience and bring them to a higher level of awareness. Each month, when we plan out our content, we start with the marketing campaigns that support our sales goals. What are we going to do to ensure that we hit our monthly targets? What content can we create that provides value, that supports our audience's journey and moves them to the next stage in the committed client pipeline. Because I believe that it's my job to bring you to a level of readiness where you want to work with us, then I don't need to sell you. When we made this switch, from randomly creating content to getting very intentional about it, our content started to work for us, even if it didn't get engagement, the focus of the content and the consistency of the messaging, the repetition of seeing the offer, it works. When you plan for revenue you can create links between your content and hitting your goals. You'll start to see patterns of what content works best to bring your audience to a higher level of readiness so they take the next step. Shift # 4: Clean up your backend You're having guests over but your house is a freaking mess. There's clutter everywhere. Socks all over the place. Mail in the weirdest places and you frantically run around the house and shove shit in drawers, throw it in closets, hide it under the bed. But if heaven forbid someone opened the closet door you'd be mortified. Ya, is that how your business is looking right now? That's how mine was for a long time. It was like I had this dirty little secret that I was hiding. It made me feel like a fraud. Like who am I to be giving all of this business advice when my house is a mess. Cleaning up your backend looks very similar to cleaning out a house, one room, one drawer at a time. Does this stay, do we need it or can it go? Your business has departments whether you recognize them as such or not. You have a marketing department, sales department, customer service department, client services department, finance and administration departments. Cleaning up the backend means working through each department and creating systems and processes to be followed so that as you grow you update the systems and processes. Cleaning up your back end means thinking through what happens, what is the journey in every area of your business. Yes, that sounds overwhelming, but if you take it one system at a time, then it's not. If your current container is about to burst, then you need to clean up your backend before you grow otherwise your container will explode and you won't be able to repair it. Growing quickly comes with a cost too… constantly needing to repair the business systems, processes and team. And this brings me to my last big shift and boy oh boy was this a bigggg one. Shift # 5 is everything… Invest in team growth. Let me just say that I would not be where I am today if I didn't have this team of unicorns supporting the vision and the growth of the company. At the time of recording this, I have 33 full-time team members and a couple of freelance contractors that we regularly do work with. YOUR job is to be the visionary, to market, sell and serve. That's your job. Anything over and above that is someone else's job and it's your responsibility not to become the bottleneck in your business. When you're growing, over the 6-figure mark, your biggest investment will be in your team. As it should be because they are the ones who are going to help you get to where you want to be. Get yourself to 6-figures first and then start asking the question, how do I build a team that can get the company ahead? Invest in the people who will help you actualize your vision and you'll see how much faster you can grow. Ok, those were the 5 big shifts that helped me get to 10 million in revenue, Shift # 1: Become familiar with your money story and work through it Shift # 2: Know your numbers with precision Shift # 3: Plan for revenue Shift # 4: Clean up your backend Shift # 5: Invest in team growth. If you are sub $100,000 and you want to hit 6-figures, within the next 12 months, then I encourage you to book a fast track mentorship call with us and ask how we can support you. There are two ways to work with me, so make sure you share where you are now and what your goals are. You can go to thewbh.com/fasttrack to book your mentorship call. This episode is a really special episode for me, as I was able to interview an amazing contact that I met through Instagram. Brooke Gordon works for Business Development Canada as a resource for women entrepreneurs to connect them with resources to help grow and scale their business, and she came onto the Business of Becoming to do just that. Brooke shares with us the common misconceptions that entrepreneurs tend to have about investing, banking, and everything finance. Even in this episode, I was the first to admit that when I started this business, over a decade ago, I wasted so much time and energy sorting out financial situations that could have been avoided. CONTEST ALERT! **For 2 lucky guests who leave a review on this episode, before February 4th, 2021, we will be giving away a free coaching call from Lori Kennedy!** We are joined by CEO and Founder of the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy, Dr. Sandra Scheinbaum. Sandra and I have been bumping into each other, virtually, for so many years, as we share similar values, networks, and goals for our independent businesses. It was SO nice to finally be able to have Sandra come on the show, and share her amazing journey in creating the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy. Sandra takes us back to the start of her career as a school teacher, teaching students with learning disabilities. This sparked the drive to go back to school, earn a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, specializing in positive psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mind-body medicine. This was the foundation that led her to become a Certified Practitioner for the Institute for Functional Medicine. She went on, with her partner Elyse, to create the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy. Sandra is an extraordinary woman, and her passion and dedication to transforming the Health and Wellness Industry are second to none. Sandra talks about the gap in the Health and Medical field,(that I actually see with clients ALL the time), between the Health and Wellness professional and their client. This gap leads to the client not feeling “heard”, or the client not providing full transparency or continuing their accountability with the professional, because there is a specific skill set that the professional is missing. That skill set can be discovered through coaching. That gap in skillset is where ‘client-centered focus' lives. What does the client ACTUALLY need? What mindset does that client need to be in, to achieve the goals that they are determined to achieve? What are the alternative factors that could be impacting the desired outcome for the client? If the client is not being open and honest, and does not have trust built with the professional, then they will never be satisfied with the outcome. More About The Functional Medicine Coaching Academy: Founded in 2014 in collaboration with The Institute for Functional Medicine, the FMCA trains Functional Medicine Health Coaches to partner with clients, collaborate with practitioners, and build a career doing something they love. The Functional Medicine Coaching Academy's innovative curriculum prepares you to partner with a Functional Medicine practitioner on a collaborative care team, start your own independent coaching practice, work in a corporate wellness setting, or define your own unique career path.
