We all know it's coming one day, but how do we best prepare for it? The moment the household goes quiet, and suddenly there's less chaos and dependencies surrounding you. Maybe it's the kids becoming adults and setting off on their own, or maybe it's early retirement, but we all reach that day where you look around and realize you're in a transition and your everyday normal starts to slow down and change. That's exactly what client turned coach Michele Canon is here to talk about this week: how to focus on goals and prioritize your wellness in this new phase of life. Michele tried it all, keto and fasting and cardio and all the things that are supposed to help you stay lean and feel your best, but through her own muscle building transformation and after taking Jenny's STRONG Formula coaching certification program, she learned that the Strong Girls methodology was the best process for truly achieving that X-Frame physique and also led her to accomplish her own goals of getting published in STRONG Fitness Magazine and becoming a women's fitness coach herself; focusing on building programs that are designed for aging women and empty nesters, proving that wellness doesn't “end” as we age, in fact it can truly begin and you can thrive at any age! This week Jenny sits down with long time STRONG Girl, STRONG Formula grad and fitness coach for athletes Sandra Sorgini. A lifelong athlete herself, Sandra came into her 1:1 coaching with Jenny already understanding the fundamentals of movement, but shares how much she truly learned about body recomposition, muscle building, nutrition, fat loss and so much more when she really started diving into and applying the STRONG Girls methodology. Her own transformation propelled her, and working with Jenny opened her mind to the possibilities of fitness coaching. Sandra opens up about her journey as an educator, how she wants to empower women young and old to recognize how capable, strong and multifaceted we are, and what you can accomplish when you focus on your health in the right ways. Jenny is back after a summer pause to focus on family and reset, and is here this week to talk about the power of community. Because transformation doesn't happen in isolation. The magic happens when you surround yourself with like-minded individuals who share your passion, who you can learn from, and who lift you up. After speaking at the Evolve Strength Business Summit recently in Edmonton, Jenny left with a renewed sense of the importance of community. Whether it's in business, relationship, lifestyle, fitness - sharing and connecting and learning and growing is done best when you've got the right people on your side, pushing you forward and inspiring you to keep working towards your goals. Meet Jacky Hunt-Broersma, a remarkable individual who's shattered expectations as an amputee ultramarathoner, endurance coach, dedicated mom, and cancer survivor. Recognised as the RRCA Road Runner of the Year, WRAL Athlete of the Year, and featured in Strong Fitness Magazine's Women to Watch in 2021, her journey is nothing short of inspirational. In 2016, Jacky embarked on her extraordinary running odyssey. Her path to greatness was marked by a profound personal challenge—losing her leg to Ewing Sarcoma. However, she didn't let this setback define her. Instead, she set out to build an impressive portfolio of "firsts" for female amputees in trail and ultra running, even securing several world records. She's on a mission to prove the naysayers wrong and carve a path for other adaptive athletes, especially women, in the world of trail running and ultramarathons. Among her numerous achievements, Jacky's incredible feat of running 104 marathons in 104 days stands out, raising an astounding $194,000 for Amputee Blade Runners. She's also set a new world record as the first amputee to complete a 100-mile run on a treadmill, doing so in under 24 hours (23 hours and 38 minutes). Jacky Hunt-Broersma's remarkable journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of the human spirit to overcome obstacles and achieve the extraordinary. She's not only a trailblazer but a beacon of hope and inspiration for adaptive athletes worldwide. *** Don't miss out on the latest episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast, released every Tuesday at 7am UK time! In Episode 159, we sit down with Lee Boyce. Lee begins by going into detail on how he got into the coaching and personal training field following his sport and athletic pursuits. One of the qualities that remained constant throughout Lee's development as a coach, trainer and educator was the ability to communicate and connect with clients and other professionals. This ability to communicate extends to his affinity for writing, whether it is providing articles for other publications or regularly contributing to his own blog. Lee is drawn to tried and true methods, and this is reflected in his philosophy around training, business and life. Lee Boyce is a strength coach and educator based in Toronto, Canada. He has been helping clients and athletes with strength and conditioning, sport performance, and hypertrophy since 2007. He has developed international recognition as a trainer and as a prolific fitness writer. His expertise has seen him published over 1,200 times by some of the largest publications in the world of fitness and lifestyle media, including Men's Health, Oxygen, Train Magazine, Inside Fitness, Shape, Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, Men's Journal, Esquire, Strong Fitness Magazine, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association's Personal Training Quarterly. Lee's first contribution to a full book came in 2013 with his inclusion in Men's Fitness Exercise Bible: 101 Best Workouts of All Time, which became an Amazon best seller. As a public speaker, Boyce uses his skills to deliver lectures, workshops, and seminars around North America and abroad, sharing innovative troubleshooting guidelines and unique perspectives for trainers looking to improve professionally. As a part-time college professor at Toronto's Humber College, he encourages critical thinking and a departure from the confines of one-size-fits-all, rule-based exercise science advice. I am so honored to Ripple with American Ninja Warrior Angela Gargano. You would be hard-pressed to find a kinder entrepreneur than Angela. Her story is so inspiring! Here are a few takeaways from Angela in this episode: An injury can lead to a low state and loss of identity, but it can also provide an opportunity for growth and new opportunities. It is important to feel emotions but not get stuck in them. To get started with fitness, start with the basics and work with a coach who motivates you. Lifestyle is important to consider when growing a business. Focusing on what you want and how to serve clients while living a fulfilling life is important. The ripple effect means that one action can positively impact many other areas of life. Sharing positive messages and offering reassurance can make a difference in someone's life and help them achieve their goals. Check out Angela's Youtube @AngelaGarganoFitness or her website: angela-gargano.com and of course, don't forget to follow her on Instagram @angela_gargano Angela's BIO: Angela Gargano is a fierce athlete, coach, international fitness model, and speaker. Before becoming a full-time multi-passionate entrepreneur, Angela worked as a biochemist at Brown University. Since throwing in the lab coat and goggles in 2013 to open her own gym in Cranston, Rhode Island, Angela has truly lived multiple lives in the athletic and entrepreneurial space, defying odds and setbacks to become an authentic and relatable voice to the public eye. Angela has now competed on American Ninja Warrior 5x, won the Title of Miss Fitness America 2016, and created an online fitness empire for women called Strong Feels Good, where she teaches women to ditch the scale and focus on strength and feeling as a way to measure progress. She has also helped over 500 women conquer their pull-ups with her online program, Pull-up Revolution. In summer 2021, Angela appeared all over the world as the Oxygen Magazine Covergirl, where she spoke about tearing her ACL on the Ninja Warrior course and coming back 11 months later stronger than ever. Angela is a huge advocate for speaking about body image, as she was made fun of growing up for her “manly” arms and build. She would hide in a sweatshirt daily at school to avoid being made fun of, and was rejected by many fitness modeling agencies. But this didn't stop Angela from now having 3 magazine covers and becoming an international fitness model in some of the world's biggest publications: Women's Health, Shape, Strong Fitness Magazine, and Popsugar Fitness. Angela is strong, both mentally and physically, and she teaches you to love the body you are in. She is real, relatable, approachable, and down-to-earth. With Angela, there is fun and smiles, and there is grit, determination, and sweat. She is easy to understand and great to work with. Angela's mission is to revolutionize the way people feel about their bodies through identifying their inner strength and embracing the powerful body and mind that they have been gifted. Her vision? To continue to expand the Strong Feels Good Community, speak at large events to spread her message and work with conscious, authentic brands who feel the same - the ones who truly want to help and impact the lives of their end consumer.
