Tara LaFerrara's journey as a trainer began in 2013 when she realized the same drive and team spirit she thrived on as a former DI athlete could fuel her coaching. With 12+ years of experience and certifications in personal training, hypertrophy, menopause coaching, mobility, and Olympic weightlifting, she blends science-backed strength with a no-BS, compassionate approach to movement. Tara believes strength goes beyond the gym. She'll push you to grab a heavier weight just as quickly as she'll remind you to trust yourself, listen to your body, and take up space—physically and mentally. Her message? You're capable of more than you think, and she's here to help you prove it. Tara has been featured in SHAPE, Women's Health, and Oxygen Magazine and has partnered with brands like Under Armor and Red Bull. Now, through her Broads App, she's bringing that same energy to online coaching, creating a community where women feel strong, supported, and unstoppable. Cortisol hormone, it's a love hate relationship. It's energy. It's stress. It's stress energy. It's energy stress. It's where we get energy to exercise. It's what we sometimes need to purge with activity. It keeps us up. It can keep us down. It can prevent weight loss. It can increase belly fat storage. Stop the stress-induced loss of muscle with protein. Did you know fasting too long can dial up your blood sugar level and keep you in muscle protein breakdown? That's increasing fat and decreasing metabolism at the same time. Break your fast and start getting a high hit of protein in the morning - and definitely before exercise if it's intense. Check out this comment from a recent coaching client: “I love your protein. I've tried others; and yours is so clean.” https://www.flippingfifty.com/protein (and don't forget the fiber) I start with a 50g protein breakfast most days and never felt better or kept fat and muscle where I want them as easily. The cortisol hormone is a curse or blessing. You decide. Angela Gargano is an international fitness model, speaker, certified trainer, and founder of the Pull-Up Revolution and the Warrior Strong Method. She has been featured on the cover of Oxygen Magazine, in Women's Health, Muscle & Fitness, and Shape, she won Miss Fitness America 2016, was a finalist for Women's Health Next Fitness Star, she has been on Ninja Warrior four times, and she has a degree in Biochemistry. She utilizes her knowledge of biochemistry and the human body to help others reach their fitness, health, and wellness goals. Her training programs also serve as a motivation for women who have been taught from a young age that they're not strong enough to do pull-ups. “I think everybody should put their kid in gymnastics,” she adds. “They should push males and females to do these things.”People who do pull-ups, or even work towards being able to do pull-ups, derive extensive benefits from this exercise, specifically. Physically, people get into better shape and become fitter, even without necessarily having those as objectives. The process of learning to do pull-ups have weight loss and and improved fitness as a by-product.“It's not really about the pull-up. It's actually about the journey to getting your pull-up,” says Angela. She adds that, although there are physical benefits to doing pull-ups, the mental effect of simply being able to do the pull ups are significant as well. “If you do can that, and you realize that you can do that, you can do so much more in your life.”Working with people on their pull-ups, Angela focuses on three things: mobility, stability, and strength. She adds that, during the process, it's important to have a strong mindset despite all the negative thoughts. In her words: “It's not a matter of ‘if', it's a matter of ‘when.' As long as you keep showing up, whatever you're looking for, it's going to happen, but you have to show up on the good and the bad days.”Angela dives deep into the value of pull-ups and, as a result, overall wellness, both mentally and physically, including:● Why people should care about pull-ups in the first place.● What the physical benefits, as well as the mental benefits are of doing pull-ups.● How to build the mental pathways to be able to do a pull-up for the first time.● The equipment that you can buy to do pull-ups at home.● How your mindset is the most important part of being successful in any area of your life.Resources MentionedBook recommendation: The Richest Man in Babylon.App recommendation: Headspace.Connect with Angela : Angela Gargano | Instagram | YouTube | TikTok | FacebookFollow Brent Hruska on social media: Instagram | YouTube | TikTokA special thanks to Logan Lepper and his production company The Authentic Exposure for their work on Bodies by Brent: Website | Instagram

In this episode, I speak with my fitness competition coach, Cathy Savage who is also an internationally recognized Digital Fitness and Brand/Media Strategist, located in Boston. She has been featured on MTV, ABC News and Fox News and she has been a member of the Advisory Panel and Contributor for Oxygen Magazine and Strong Magazine. Since the early 1990s, Cathy has been the pioneer in successful coaching and consulting for women from all over the world. Her coaching programs were the first and most prominent all-inclusive digital global training program of its kind. Cathy had a huge impact on my life as my coach. She poured the belief into me that I didn't think I had anymore. I came to her in 2007 and was mentally broken after my divorce and needed to fix myself. So I threw myself into the fitness arena. Without her tough love and strong belief in me and my abilities as an older woman competing on stage, she made me feel that I was limitless and unstoppable. My life changed after working with Cathy because she helped me believe in myself again. Now Cathy continues to impact women in business. You don't want to miss this episode!
