In this week's tribute episode, Janet, John, (and Pen) celebrate the life and career of an American actress with “Hollywood in her DNA,” known for her comedic roles in film and television in the 1970s and 1980s. A true courageous and magical talent.. Teri Garr! Born in Los Angeles to a theatrical multi-hyphenate father and Radio City Rockette mother, Garr was trained in ballet and would go on to appear as a dancer in five Elvis Presley movies. After studying acting in New York City, she had her breakthrough appearing in the episode Assignment: Earth of Star Trek in 1968. From there she starred in Francis Ford Coppola's thriller The Conversation in 1974 and found increasing success in films like Oh, God! (1977), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), The Black Stallion (1979), One from the Heart (1982), After Hours (1985), and Tootsie (1982) which earned her the nomination for an Academy Award. This is a jam packed podcast.  It starts off with a visit from our pal Abraham who says "Democracy will prevail" and "We've worked too hard to let it fail."  Jennifer and I had not planned to talk about the election - and I asked him about the conversation we had with him a few weeks ago, with regard to an article I wrote on Medium where I did a "guided meditation" with the CharacterAI known as Abraham. "It was more accurate than you know" he said at the time.  I mentioned that I had a couple of people that were on our list to speak with. Jennifer clearly isn't aware of Teri Garr or her career - but I knew Teri when she was working on "One From the Heart" as Luana was helping Francis with some dialog, and we had dinner with her and her husband Roger Birnbaum. Also I knew that Fred Roos, the Fred in this episode, was instrumental in her career, casting her in three films - including the Conversation, One From the Heart and The Black Stallion (which Fred produced.) So asking her specifically about her relationship with Fred - whom we interviewed on the program, because his name came up when we interviewed Harry Dean Stanton on the flipside, and Harry Dean had private messages for Fred. Those private messages were hauntingly accurate, and allow his family to realize that it was possible he still exists. And he does.  There' a brief conversation with Prince about his sister, who is still "healing" on the flipside - I don't know what that refers to, but in general, if someone isn't ready to speak to us, it's because they aren't quite aware of what we're doing yet. Aretha showed up early on - and I was going to ask her about her pal Quincy - everyone's friend Quincy.  He passed a few days ago - we asked him about the ring that Frank Sinatra gave to him (and that is a call back to the interview with Frank on our podcast where I mentioned the ring.) Some people will be disconcerted to hear Quincy say that he was greeted by Michael Jackson on the flipside - but we've interviewed him as well, and we have had long chats with Ray Charles about his love for Quincy.  But more mind bending was his talking about being greeted by Mozart. I know we did have a conversation some years back with someone about Mozart's father - being the reincarnation of him - I'll have to dig that up, it might have been with Ray Charles, it might have been with Roye Waites, my professor at Boston University who wrote a book about Mozart, and we interviewed her on the flipside - because I wanted to bring Amadeus forward and talk about his sister - who was as prolific as he was, but at 16 was forced to return home and leave her composing behind.  I'll have to track that interview down - if anyone recalls it, please send us an email as to who we were interviewing. It's funny, because when he said "Amadeus" I remembered that he preferred to be called that (and it might have been from Roye Waite's book about him) - but it was mind bending to hear him say so casually that he was Mozart's father - and then of course I asked Amadeus the same question and his answer was "blood line. Yes, he was." I've been working with Jennifer for ten years now and she's more than capable of saying "no" or changing the story based on questions I'm asking.  In this case, she repeated what he was saying. I know people will find that inconceivable - but it's what he's saying; that he was Leopold in a past life. Mozart's teacher, father, a musician himself. I know this is a packed interview - in 30 minutes we hear things that are repeated in the past 10 years of interviews.   I know that Quincy has an apology in this podcast - I found that surprising, as it's rarely heard - he also mentions that he's "reconciled with Prince" - I had no idea that they had a beef with each other, and I'll let others look that up.  I was surprised to read it and I know beyond a shadow of doubt that Jennifer was not aware of it. So - this is just another mind bending podcast.  We've been doing this for ten years now - and if one takes the time to listen to all of the podcasts, they'll hear the same things over and over again. The same things that people say under hypnosis, the same things that people say via guided meditation. It's mind bending - but we do it to help people realize that their loved ones are not far away, and available if one wants to speak to them. It's not required, but I always find it amusing when people talk about their loved ones, but generally won't consider the possibility that they still exist. Hope springs eternal.

Oh wow. We've got a heater of an episode for you today. This time around, Sean and Brad are joined by first ever Queen Venerator guest Joe to discuss the work of Japanese video game publisher FromSoftware. Kind of. Look, there's a decent amount of discussion about FromSoft throughout their long, illustrious history, and yes Joe does a wonderful job conveying the true emotional pull these games can have on people, and yes we discuss Joe's infamously peculiar FromSoft collection. But lets face it, the Queen Venerator crew get distracted easily, so they break off into a multitude of tangents. The topics discussed are as wide-ranging as the Nick Jr. show Little Bear, David the Gnome, Total Recall, Shogun, Michael Mann specifically The Keep this time, Scott Glenn (of course), The Wire, Joe Lieberman meeting the Mortal Kombat Toasty guy in hell (I know its Dan Forden, calm down), the death of the Twitch Watch Party, Dan Ryckert's joy about Event Horizon, the 1991 Hiroyuki Kitakubo and Katsuhiro Otomo anime movie Roujin Z, the 1980 Troma released, kids-as-zombie-microwaves movie The Children, Cutlery Corner, MORE Siskel and Ebert talk, The Black Stallion: the greatest movie of ours and any generation, Justin Wong at Evo, Brad's continued Dead Cells obsession, Sean sneaking off to make memes, Sean surrupticiously eating a Cheesy Bean and Rice Burrito, Maria Menounos and her cook books, Cheddar TV: TV for gas stations, Dragons Dogma 2 meat, Brad explains the Goo Crew and Joey's World Tour, Helldivers, Graveyard Keeper, those fake bowling animation videos, Ninja Gaiden, Low-G: The Low Gravity Man, and of course, Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects. Finally, we introduce two new segments on this show. First, we have what will clearly be a long-running feature: Sean Reads the Entirity of the Toxic Zombies Wikipedia Page, a real rollercoaster of emotions segment.  Finally, after months of threats, Brad finally unleashes his wretched creation on the world: The Board of Many Things, a fifty category monstrosity used to select the topic of the next show. What did Sean win from the one armed bandit this week? This isn't a mixed metaphor, stop saying its a mixed metaphor. You would think all that time away would give us time to find new and exciting things to talk about, but thankfully we immediately fall back into our habit of talking about garbage no one has cared about for literal decades. This time around there's a long discussion about Siskel and Ebert's At the Movies and the insane opinions of these two maniacs: Pleasantville being better than Saving Private Ryan, Babe: Pig in the City also being better than Saving Private Ryan, Black Stallion being better than Raging Bull, and Siskel's completely unsurprising love of Star 80. We also discuss that one scene in A Very Brady Sequel, the Action Boyz watching Godfrey Ho movies, getting squeezed out like a toothpaste roller, The Long Kiss Goodnight, the potential end to Sean's Tubi Corner, Jim Carrey's Foghat Man character, Shawn Hatosy sliding down a prop slide, the VHS copy of Medium Cool that destroyed Brad's VCR, Annie, the positive side of Grease 2, the many scores of Tangerine Dream, AIM screen names based on the surfing movie Blue Crush, God Lives Underwater vs. Primitive Radio Gods vs. Godsmack, and of course MTV's Fear. --- Website: www.queenvenerator.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/queenvenerator/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/queenvenerator.bsky.social

From the very first photographs of motion, horses have been integrated with the cinema, so today Alex and Jonathan talk about different ways horses can be used to drive a story in The Black Stallion (1979), Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002), Seabiscuit (2003), and War Horse (2011). We discuss horses as both thematic metaphors and characterizations, what makes them so compelling to watch on film, and ultimately how horses reflect and amplify the virtues or vices of the human characters. Ivan Paquette's entertainment career began after moving to Vancouver in the mid-80s and he soon appeared in the original MacGyver series, 21 Jump Street, Black Stallion series, Border Town and made other appearances on television shows and movies. As his success grew something in his spirit was calling him back to Prince George. During those years he would go back and forth to Vancouver developing his music and publishing songs. He was invited to help gather information from the Indigenous youth to help inform the public of the plight of the Indigenous people in the North. Using the Medicine Wheel teachings, Paquette created the model. The BC United Metis Youth Circle was born, which is now known as Metis Youth BC. It was the healing piece; it was engaging the youth to help them see for themselves their future. That mentality of killing the Indian in the child in residential schools had to be washed away. The template used to form those circles was helping Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples and bringing them together. Paquette always says there is unity in community and that result is what he sees in the drumming circles at UHNBC that have continued every Monday night since the pandemic started. Along with Wes Mitchell, they drummed for 47 consecutive nights when the pandemic arrived in March 2020. Ivan's first love is his relationship with God, who gave him the ability to write songs. He wrote his first song at 15yrs old, to started playing guitar to accompany his songwriting that was getting attention and recognition and landing him a publishing contract in 1996. Ivan has a large repertoire of music and lyrics, includes Gospel, Country, Folk, etc., and many music influences. Since 1989 Ivan has been instrumental in the Province of British Columbia and CANADA assisting artists and communities. His creative ability he has helped change the landscape in serving the arts community, creating successful government programs and services, etc. He has served on many boards and committees for many years, including 8 years at the Prince George and District Community Arts Council. Ivan is a knowledge keeper – facilitator, and is well known for sharing his wisdom to make the world a better place. ‘If you give a person a reason to dream, you give the person a reason to succeed' – Ivan Paquette

It's the episode that many of you have been waiting for, as we finally cover what is considered to be nu-metal's magnum opus, "White Pony". Coming out in the year 2000, it's easy to see how this album was the end of the first wave of nu-metal and ushered in the second wave, no matter how short-lived it was. We examine how Deftones approached making this album, from Chino being very concerned about changing the band's direction, to the in-fighting, to how Tony Hawk's Pro Skater almost derailed the recording entirely. We also find time to talk about seeing Deftones live, this album's lasting legacy, Stef Carpenter's recent pivot to being a conspiracy theory guy, and include a mini-review of their 20th anniversary remix album, "Black Stallion".   One thing that's no conspiracy is the bonus content we're releasing every month over at https://patreon.com/thepodkast, where $4/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every month, one full-length album review and two mini singles reviews. We just posted our first-ever video episode where we take a look at the videos of Marilyn Manson with Lydia Burrell, and this month, we finally tackle Fieldy's unwieldy hip-hop album, "Rock 'n Roll Gangster". Plus, we just launched the POD Kast Discord, where you can finally get the chance to chat nu-metal with people who still love it, like us. Sign up now!
