Whether you call her KJ the Witch, Katie J, or Katie, you will feel the calming and patient presence that IS her as you listen to this episode. A presence that comes with a quiet confidence and a candid humor you wouldn't expect from someone who shares how she's in a unique season in her life and business: one of complete and utter surrender. Katie J built a 6 figure coaching business in only a couple of years and then decided to burn it all down this year. Rather than a re-building phase of business, it's more accurate to say she's in a season of surrendered creation centered around spiritual healing. This is a beautifully unique conversation unlike any other entrepreneur conversation you've heard. Make sure to follow Katie on Instagram to continue to follow her journey and watch what may unfold. Brittany Rhodes is the Founder and General Math-ager of Black Girl MATHgic, the first and only monthly subscription box curated to increase math confidence and decrease math anxiety in girls on a 3rd-8th grade math skill level. Brittany shares how her journey began with her own love of math which inspired her to help people struggling in the subject she loved so much. Her tutoring experience began in college and continued for over a decade after college as she worked for non-profits during the day. During those years, Brittany noticed the self-deprecating, self-defeating language girls used about math. She became committed to humanizing mathematics and helping it connect with studentsHer now-husband introduced her to subscription boxes in 2015 when they were still new and eventually Black Girl MATHgic was born. Despite not having a burning desire to be an entrepreneur, she DID have a deep desire to help students with math on a larger scale than she could with one on one tutoring. How do you go from being a vet tech to starting a cake decorating? Somewhat by chance and then by choice as it allowed Danielle to create and build a business around spending time with her kids. Danielle didn't start cake decorating because she felt it was her purpose or even because it's what she'd always dreamed of doing. But opportunities flowed and she was able to create a business around something she enjoyed that allowed her to prioritize her family and for her, that was enough reason to go all in. This is an important conversation because it shows just how many roads there are to purpose and that it is rarely a straight line. Your path to purpose can wind along the things that matter to you at various points in your life and it can turn when you want or need it to. Maria Stoyadinova was a burnt-out Economist searching for ways to reduce her stress so she could continue working. But on her journey to reducing stress, she realized how much of that burnout was caused by her own thoughts about herself and her worth. She became so impassioned about what she learned that she started coaching other corporate women dealing with burnout. In this episode, Maria shares how she overcame the stigma of working with a coach and not being able to ‘figure it out' herself and reframed her belief that getting help was giving up. She walks us through the process of doing a thought download to get to identify your thoughts, what feeling the thoughts are creating and what actions you take because of those feelings. Natalie Nixon, PhD, was given a gift at a pivotal point in her life: the gift of encouragement to choose what lit her up rather than what would lead to a 'good job'. Even with that support, though, Natalie felt frustrated at times by the common message she would hear that one should just pick a lane and stay in it. Luckily, Natalie didn't listen to that advice and it has led her to become a global keynote speaker, author and to start her company Figure 8 Thinking. She wrote the book The Creativity Leap after consulting companies on building a culture of innovation. She noticed that everybody wanted to innovate and she realized innovation is an invention converted into scalable value. The conversion factor is creativity. The book offers up simple and accessible ways for people and organizations to see their creativity and use it to innovate.
