Former Chicago Police Superintendent, Garry McCarthy, joined the NYC Police Department at age 22. He worked his way up to Deputy Commissioner of Operations and got to the World Trade Center as the 2nd plane hit the South Tower. He was there when the Towers collapsed and lost many friends, but in our conversation he explains why he's glad he was there. On this episode he tells a very compelling story of that day and remembers some of the heroic first responders on 9/11. The Feal Good Foundation is named for its founder, John Feal, a U.S. Army veteran and retired construction worker. John was called to lead a team of demolition experts work the pile at Ground Zero. A steel beam fell on his foot resulting in injuries, surgeries, and big medical bills. He was denied coverage again and again. His experience led him to start the FealGood Foundation to help all emergency personnel who are injured doing their jobs in all areas of their needs.Jon Stewart fought alongside Feal to get financial help and get the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act passed and reauthorized and hammered Congress to act, telling a poorly attended hearing... “It's an embarrassment to the country and it is a stain on this institution. You should be ashamed of yourselves, for those that aren't here, but you won't be." He closed by saying, “They responded in five seconds. They did their jobs with courage, grace, tenacity, humility..do yours.”You can donate here.
John Feal was a demolition supervisor at Ground Zero. During the cleanup 8,000 pounds of steel dropped on Feal's foot, leading to partial amputation. After he was denied compensation for his injury by employers, insurance companies, and elected officials, Feal became the leading advocate for 9/11's victims. He took his historic fight to Washington and with the help of comedian Jon Stewart, they passed a series of laws to ensure that those who've sacrificed so much would be taken care of.
It’s 10 Minutes to Sunset... A time and a Dateline title which makes appears to make perfect sense and yet seemingly baffles Kimberly and Katie so soon into the new year. What they aren’t baffled by is the fact that three different people in three different interrogation rooms telling three very different stories makes for a magical Dateline viewing experience. (It also helps that that Mr. Magical himself, Keith Morrison, is reporting on the whole affair) Kimberly falls hard for the episode's MVP, Titan the bomb sniffing dog, and Katie’s heartfelt dream of seeing an interrogation room blanket three-peat has finally come to fruition! All that, plus a “cocaine cowgirl,” a spiffy dressing detective, and a jury verdict in 18 minutes? So whip up a hot batch of chocolate chip pancakes and settle in for 10 Minutes to Sunset. Welcome to episode 25 of activist #MMT. Today I talk with third-year MMT activist and Scotland resident, James Feal-Martinez. James is an electrical engineer with the British Navy, with which he has served for 20 years. In 2018, a serious injury left him homebound for the first time in many years. After binge watching a large amount of movies and television series, he turned to reading philosophy and then economics. Despite having no background in economics, he could tell that neoclassical economists “make some very strange assumptions," resulting in predictions that are wrong “again, again, again, and again.” Worst, those incorrect predictions are scaled up by these same economists to apply to the entire economy, greatly magnifying the errors. James was determined to find economists who interpreted and saw the economy properly, first leading him to New Zealander and fellow engineer, Steve Keen. Although Keen has some important disagreements with Modern Monetary Theory, he is largely in agreement with its core tenets. James and I spend much of our time discussing our own lives and the state of the world under the new normal of the coronavirus health crisis. We talk about how, although internet tools such as Chromebooks, Google Classroom, and Kahn Academy may be less than ideal during normal in-person instruction, they allow schools to function as normally as can be expected during this crisis. They do this by providing regular structure and socialization opportunities for teachers, students, and parents; not to mention a regular paycheck for teachers and the families that depend on them. Like war and climate change, the coronavirus pandemic is truly a crisis for all, which uniquely includes the privileged. The “how are you going to pay for it?“ question is always asked when it relates to something intended to alleviate suffering for the disadvantaged. When it comes to the potential suffering of the privileged during a crisis such as this, the question is cast aside for programs requiring orders of magnitude more spending by central governments. An example brought up by James is how the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer (which is the equivalent of the United States Treasury Secretary) introduced £350 billion pounds of spending for crisis relief. This is on top of the existing budget. The media has not asked how these funds would be “paid for.“ Yet only two months ago, this same media incessantly asked how the Labour Party’s manifesto would be paid for, despite its requiring only around £400 billion in spending over ten years, which is about 11% in comparison (£400 billion over 10 years is $40 billion per year, versus £350 billion pounds in a single year). It is possible that even this is a substantial over estimation regarding the cost of the manifesto. We end by discussing a story I wrote to introduce MMT to kids. The story was partially inspired and encouraged by James late last year, after he read a Twitter tutorial I created on the subject of reserve accounting. I have since presented the story to an eighth grade math class. I tell James about how I have decided to change the beginning of the story, and the insights those changes reveal. Other topics, concepts and resources discussed: Interview with my primary care physician about the basics of the coronavirus diesase and the crisis. Another evil aspect of the UBI is how it would likely hurt exactly those it is intended to help, which will result in necessary complaints. It is likely that the privileged will turn to them and say, "What are you complaining about? You’re getting a check every month." A pizza shop giving out coupons for pizzas. The coupons already out there are anticipated by the shop, meaning the shop has decided that they can (they have prepared to) handle that demand. It would be foolish for them to store those used coupons in a safe, because (first) it’s pointless, and (two) it’s dangerous, because the shop likely does not have the resources to meet that additional demand. The collection of these coupons (in addition to ticket stubs at a movie or sports stadium) implies their destruction. This is analogous to how the collection of federal taxes are destroyed upon the collection by the state (federal government). In the same way a pizza shop does not keep their coupons for future customers, the currency issuer does not store the revenue collected by taxation (or the selling of securities) for future respending. Killer Mike’s inspirational ad for the 2020 Bernie Sanders campaign, demonstrating how the problems in our society are rooted not in race, gender, sexuality, or country of origin; but in class – and more specifically, capital versus labor. "Everyone outside of that 1% has been denied." Before getting to my conversation with James, I’m going to tell you the full kid story. Note that this is normally an interactive conversation, so I am going to insert some common responses that I have received. A story to introduce kids to Modern Monetary Theory When you play Monopoly, what’s the very first thing that happens? You choose a banker, and then what must that banker do? Does he have to go and find people that played the game months ago, in order to get enough money to play with? Or does he just...give out the money? Do movie theaters or sports stadiums give people newly created tickets? Or do they have to first collect old tickets from former patrons? A theater could give every single patron five thousand tickets. They could. No problem. But there are only so many seats in the theater. (This story was inspired by a kid I met who told me he got in trouble for stealing hundreds of dollars from his parents. He did this by taking their credit cards and using them for “in app“ game purchases.) Now... Imagine you have no money. I mean no money. Not in your bank account, not in your wallet, not in your piggy bank. Nothing. You and your entire family are totally broke. Then one morning, you wake up and you are granted the power to create money, whenever you needed it. Just you. You go into a store, find something you want and it’s really expensive. You go to the cashier, stick out your hand, palm up, and – pssssht! Money appears in your hand. Just enough to buy what you want. The only rule is that you’re not allowed to keep it; you can only spend it. You can only give it. The question is: if you had this power, does it really matter that you **have no money**? Of course not. Who cares? You can create it whenever you need it. So what would you do with this power? Your first instinct is probably to spoil yourself. By yourself lots of cool toys, gadgets, and technology. Maybe take all of your friends on a trip to Disney World for a couple of years. How would you use this power to help? Really help. Pay off your mom and dad‘s house and cars. Pay off the credit cards and loans for all your friends and their families. Maybe provide all the kids in your school free lunch and school supplies for a whole year. But why stop there? Your teachers buy lots of school supplies with their own money, so why not help all of them? You could buy a home for every homeless person in the entire town if you wanted. There’s a lot of good things that you could do. Now. How could you use this power to hurt people? (What do you mean, hurt people? How could creating money hurt people???) Well, how about finding the most awful and evil kid in school and giving them $1 billion and nothing to anybody else. How about, early in the morning, you go to the school cafeteria and buy all the food and then throw it in the dumpster? Or all the food at the entire grocery store? How about going to a busy toy store and giving every customer $10 million at the very same time. They would all start fighting because there aren’t enough toys in the store for them to buy! But the worst thing you can do is to take a trip to the city and find the most destitute, desperate homeless person you can. Someone who’s in really bad shape. Talk to him. He tells you he’s been homeless for a long time, living in his broken car with his wife, 10-year-old girl, and little baby boy. They’re always cold, always hungry, his kids have nowhere to play, and when they get sick, they can’t even go to the doctor. You listen to their story and it’s really sad. You even cry a little bit and hug each other. Then you tell him, “I really wish I could help you but I can’t. I don’t have any money. I’m so sorry.“ I mean, you’re not lying. You don’t have any money. But you sure are leaving out something important. Since he doesn’t know that you have this power (and how could he, since you’re the only one in the world who can do it) he’s not angry, just sad and disappointed. He thinks you’re also just sad and disappointed. How do you think he would feel if he realized that you did have this power? #LearnMMT For an overview of Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) with many reliable sources to learn more, here is a good place to start: On the web: My layperson intro with many expert sources listed at the bottom. Meet Aubrey De Grey – Chief Science Officer at SENS Research Foundation, VP of New Technology Discovery at AgeX Therapeutics, and editor-in-chief of Rejuvenation Research, the highest-impact peer-reviewed academic journal focused on postponing aging. He works on the development of medical innovations that can postpone all forms of age-related ill-health with an undivided focus is on rejuvenation: that is, the active repair of the various types of molecular and cellular damage which eventually cause age-related disease and disability, as opposed to the mere retardation of the accumulation of such damage. Our guest tells his story of how he came to be a biologist from being destined to be a pianist according to his mother in the beginning and later choosing programming out of a wish to make more of a contribution to the progress of mankind. Insights Switching fields and how it helped Aubrey find fulfilment in his work. Understanding the process of aging – how it happens and what is the rational, sustainable, and effective way to combat it. Why public awareness on the topic is important, and how Aubrey has been striving to raise awareness. What makes us age faster is not just the unhealthy habits of ours, but also the mechanisms like breathing that are essential to our life. Whether fasting helps you combat the aging process or not. Summary Aubrey's Career Path "I wanted to be a scientist, but ultimately, I wanted to make a difference to the world. And I recognized that scientists, in the long run, make the most difference.” Having chosen programming at the age of 15 and for the purpose of making more of a difference to the world, Aubrey continued in that career till he got exposed to something much more demanding. "I started programming, and I thought that one of the biggest problems the world faces is that people have to spend so much of their time doing stuff that they wouldn’t do unless they were being paid for it – I’ll stop that by helping in artificial intelligence research to create more automation. ” Learn why Aubrey chose to switch fields back in 1990 and pursue a career that could ultimately fulfil his desire of being able to make as big of a difference to the world as possible. "Having found out that nobody was working on trying to keep people healthy late in life – not properly, anyway – I thought, what? I better switch fields, really? And that’s what led to my moving into the biology of aging back in the early 1990s. ” https://images.unsplash.com/photo-1566669437687-7040a6926753?ixlib=rb-1.2.1&ixid=eyJhcHBfaWQiOjEyMDd9&auto=format&fit=crop&w=667&q=80 Raising Awareness and Concern about the Process of Aging Our guest is the person who played a key role in the introduction and spreading of this revolutionary idea in the field of gerontology – a switch from making efforts for the prevention of ‘aging’ to making efforts for the remediation of the process called ‘aging.’ "I was fortunate enough to have a few ideas in the late 90s that were quite well received, so I rose to great prominence in gerontology very quickly. In the year 2000, I had the idea that comprehensive damage repair is the most promising and practical way to keep people healthy late in life. ” "My goal is and has always been to grow this movement to a point that I become unnecessary, that there are people in the field who are better than me. And then I will retreat into glorious obscurity. ” https://images.unsplash.com/photo-1519171920866-a020bf47357b?ixlib=rb-1.2.1&ixid=eyJhcHBfaWQiOjEyMDd9&auto=format&fit=crop&w=750&q=80 A New Concept in Gerontology It took him much and more to make people realize that not only do they want to live, but they also want to live long and live healthy – that eventually leads to the idea that they want to defeat the biologically deteriorative process called aging. "If it’s all about simple health care and if one recognizes that longevity is simply a side effect of not getting sick, then the argument becomes a great deal easier to make. ” Learn why defeating aging is more about reducing the combined effect of time on biological systems than trying to prevent that effect from occurring at all. "The most common sense and most practical approach to keeping people healthy late in life was simply to repair the damage that the body does to itself throughout life, not necessarily perfectly, but well enough so that the overall amount of damage that remains in the body is within the capacity of the body to tolerate. ” https://images.unsplash.com/photo-1505682614136-0a12f9f7beea?ixlib=rb-1.2.1&auto=format&fit=crop&w=751&q=80 Striving for the Cause Aubrey has contributed much and more to the spreading of awareness about all these concepts because that is how the scientists can motivate people from all domains to donate and contribute to the progress of research that eventually benefits the whole of mankind. "If you’re working on something that is interesting and important, it’s not such a problem to get people to come and work for you.” https://images.unsplash.com/photo-1522211988038-6fcbb8c12c7e?ixlib=rb-1.2.1&ixid=eyJhcHBfaWQiOjEyMDd9&auto=format&fit=crop&w=750&q=80 Having an Understanding in Multiple Fields Learn how switching fields is one of the most innovative and productive things that can happen in one’s career. It opened a whole new dimension for Aubrey, and it also allows for a profitable transfer of skill sets from one domain to another. "It’s quite clear that when people switch fields, they very often do really good things in the new field because they’ve got the skill set to work on really hard problems because of their transferable skill, but they’re not encumbered by the conventional wisdom that everybody else in the field have.” https://images.unsplash.com/photo-1546188994-07c34f6e5e1b?ixlib=rb-1.2.1&ixid=eyJhcHBfaWQiOjEyMDd9&auto=format&fit=crop&w=751&q=80 Hope for the Future Aubrey has high hopes for the future of gerontology and welcomes any feedback or help that people have to offer him on his way to the achievement of these universal goals. "I think within the next 10 years, we will have reached the threshold of research that I historically have called robust master rejuvenation. It’s only a matter of time before we can bring aging under comprehensive medical control.” He also believes that only a collective effort can uproot the problem altogether. "I believe that at the end of the day, this problem of aging will not be solved by one person or one organization. It will be a collective effort because it should divide and conquer approach.” https://images.unsplash.com/photo-1478796415026-3c85ee65975e?ixlib=rb-1.2.1&ixid=eyJhcHBfaWQiOjEyMDd9&auto=format&fit=crop&w=750&q=80 Moving Forward Aubrey is trying to get people to move past all the obstacles that are stopping them from being concerned about aging. Any contribution to the movement that he has initiated is much appreciated. "It’s all about past people’s fear of getting their hopes up and knowing that people have been wrong about the defeat of aging right through the history of civilization.” Subscribe! Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has agreed to meet with 9/11 first responders this week about reauthorizing the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, an advocate told The Post on Sunday. Feal said McConnell’s staff agreed to a Tuesday afternoon meeting with “myself and a couple of team leaders” in the wake of Jon Stewart’s recent shaming of the powerful Kentucky Republican.

DING, DING, DING! It's always fun when men and women can come together and argue for the sake of it. This episode we invited social media coordinator and blogger, Melbae to help Lindsey out and on Jameer's team, popular podcaster Reek from the "He-Man Woman Haters Club."
You’re Listening to the Street Smart Wealth Podcast, show 214, and today, we are going to talk about how to stay accountable in your business and the power in an accountability partner. this is part of my month long series in giving you tools and ideas to prepare you for an awesome next year, or next quarter, depending on when you are listening in. Need some coaching to move you forward? My one on one and inner circle programs are LIVE! Are you looking for coaching to be successful in your Network Marketing business? Want to also learn how to generate your own leads online? My Inner Circle Coaching Program may be just what you need. Or, maybe it's one on one coaching. Learn more about both at StreetSmartWealth.com/coach Check the podcast archives on the blog at JackieUlmer.com for previous episodes if you missed any or are new to the show. Accountability in Your Direct Sales Business Think of the people who have the type of success you want. What do they all have in common? A work ethic! How is your work ethic? If the top income earner in your company met you for coffee and asked you to get out your calendar and show/tell what you did last week to work your business, would you be happy with what you have to show and tell? Be your own best coach. Track your actions. Track your results. Use a simple notebook or text note on your computer or phone. Set goals at the beginning of the week. These can be based around intentions, because you control that. Tally actions and results at the end. Reward yourself for achievements. Be tough on yourself for falling short. Consider getting an accountability partner. Not your upline or anyone on your team. Ideally, someone cross line who you can grow with. Ideally, you want someone who matches your drive and commitment. It can take some time to find this. First, determine what you are truly committed to and then let your upline know. Ask if she/he might be able to help you locate a few people who match this same intensity, Have a few phone conversations first. Decide together how you want to set things up - check in twice weekly? Daily, Phone, text, FB? Decide on rewards and consequences. Maybe a fine to each other. Be sure you set a timer and don’t let it ever turn into a complaining or negative environment. Be honest with each other and give each other space to leave or move on if it’s not working. This is why it should not be someone super close to you. Keep it more business oriented. I’ve mentioned we are going to do a book of the month on this show for the coming year. I promise I have chosen 12 books that if you just stick with these 12 books, you can take yourself and your business all the way to the top The first book we will be reading is Feal the Fear and Do it Anyway, by Susan Jeffers. It’s in the show notes so you can find and reference it. This is not a Network Marketing book, but it is awesome for anyone who wants to get Unstuck! We all have fear, and some fears never go away. But, that doesn’t mean we have to let them limit us. From the book - With dynamic techniques and profound advice, Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway has guided so many readers around the world to turn their fear, indecision and anger into power, action and love. Learn the tools that will vastly improve your ability to handle any situation so that you can become powerful and decisive in the face of your fears. Discover that everyone has the same fears but, by applying the wisdom that Susan Jeffers offers in this breakthrough book, you can literally feel the fear…and do it anyway! In this case, you know that you don't like the fact that lack of trust in yourself is stopping you from getting what you want out of life. Knowing this creates a very clear, even laser-like, focus on what needs to be changed. You don't have to scatter your energy wondering why. It doesn't matter. What matters is that you begin now to develop your trust in yourself, until you reach the point where you will be able to say: WHATEVER HAPPENS TO ME, GIVEN ANY SITUATION, I CAN HANDLE IT! This book will help keep you accountable. I LOVE and appreciate reviews! Go to JackieUlmer.com/itunes or JackieUlmer.com/stitcher to leave your review and be entered into a drawing for a free month of coaching. If you don’t believe it yourself, don’t ask anyone else to do so! It is virtually impossible not to transmit your doubts and insecurities to others through body language, tone of voice, inflection, word choice, and other subtle characteristics. When you show by your actions that you lack self-confidence, other people also begin to doubt your ability to perform even the most insignificant of tasks. To gain the respect and confidence of others, begin by making a list of all the attributes that make you who you are, followed by the areas you could do with some work in! Make a conscious effort to build upon your positive strengths and simply improve on your weaknesses (if they're even important). It may not be easy, but if you assess yourself objectively and persevere in your efforts, you will eventually prevail .... like my wife Karen, If in this video you think that she looks confident - I can guarantee you that she wasn't, but simply done what she had to do anyway. Feal the fear and do it anyway!
This week's RIPEcast features a tag set from Pink Mammoth residents Jonathan Will and Gravity, live from Breakfast of Champions 2014. Here's what they have to say: "We are both super excited to have closed out our 4th Breakfast of Champions together. Rob Garza had just hoped of the decks, taking us an eclectic journey. We aimed to keep the feeling going strong with bits of funk, glazed with some grit; ending on a high, sedimental note. We hope you enjoy the mix and look forward to what 2014 will bring!" - Jonathan Will & Gravity (pinkmammoth.org) About Jonathan Will: Jonathan Will is a resident DJ, podcast boss, and impresario for San Francisco’s legendary house crew Pink Mammoth, as well as an up-and-coming producer for Loöq Records. He loves to make people FEAL on the dance floors by taking them through a journey inward of beauty and emotion, as well as provoking momentous booty-shaking extroversion. His style is eclectic, expressive and dance floor-centric. His sets convey a full range of house music including full-body notes of tech, deep house; seductive aromas of electro-pop, underground jazz and intrigue; and including a well balanced, lingering finish of funk and lure. He has played alongside the likes of Lee Burridge, BLOND:ISH, Jimpster, Art Department, Soul Clap, Justin Martin, DJ T, Worthy, Marques Wyatt, Fred Everything, Spirit Catcher, Audiofly (Luca Saporito), M.A.N.D.Y. (Philip Jung) Miguel Migs and The Martinez Brothers. He has performed at almost every notable club, festival and underground in the SF- Bay area including: Monarch, Mighty, The ENDUP, Supperclub, Triple Crown, Ruby Sky, Wish, Temple, Anu, Public Works, The Phoenix Hotel, Monroe, How Weird, Lovefest, Superhero St Fair, Decompression, Body & Soul, Robot Heart; and around the world in Miami (WMC), Minneapolis, Denver, Los Angeles, Seattle, Amsterdam, Japan and Mexico, as well as the much loved, annual Pink Mammoth parties at BRC, Burning Man. Currently, he has been busy in the studios with production. In 2012 he did a remix for AND()'s “Akuma H23” on Looq records. The release was well received and even peaked to #35 in its category on Beatport. Then he followed with a strong, lush summer deep house remix of Momu's “ComingUp” which got re-released on Loöq's Best 12 of 2012. He latest remix of Momu’s “Rising” which debued on Pink Mammoth's Sunrise set on Robot Heart is already getting much DJ support and praise. http://soundcloud.com/jonathan-w http://facebook.com/Jonathan.Will.dj About Gravity: The Chicago area music scene provided the perfect backdrop for the early days of Rob Adelmann’s (aka DJ Gravity) funky, eclectic influences. Yet despite growing up in the birthplace of house music, Rob’s first real exposure to the genre came in 1997, while living in London. The thriving underground scene of UK’s capital sucked him in and left a lasting impression. In 1999, while living in Colorado, Rob bought turntables and began teaching himself the art of mixing, recalling advice he picked up from friends in London. Within 6 months he found himself playing bars and clubs in Colorado. While living in Boulder, Rob had the good fortune of meeting future Pink Mammoth cofounder Ryel K, who invited him to camp and DJ at Pink Mammoth during Burning Man 2005. The Burning Man culture and his experience DJing there had such a profound effect that he was inspired to move to San Francisco shortly after. Once in SF, Rob quickly became an integral part of Pink Mammoth’s foundation. Over the last six years Rob has DJed every Pink Mammoth event in venues all over SF, as well as parties throughout North America, including Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Denver and Calgary. In addition to playing headlining sets, Rob has had the opportunity to share the decks with Lee Burridge, Marques Wyatt, Collette, Jimpster, Spirit Catcher, Justin Martin, Random Soul, Hed Kandi, Miguel Migs, AstroGlyde, DJ T and The Martinez Brothers. Although rooted in funky and deep house, Rob’s sound is not easily defined. Whether playing an uplifting daytime party, epic sunset/sunrise set, or a peak time nightclub slot, his main source of inspiration comes from the dancefloor. Rather than sticking to a plan or sub-genre of house, Rob’s sets are based on reading the crowd and creating an irresistible vibe and unforgettable experience. http://www.pinkmammoth.org/participants/gravity/#sthash.QxSRQjM4.dpuf
©© Les Freres Smith - Opposite People (Live at Roskilde Festival 2012) (Free MP3 download on ParisDJs.com) 2013-01-29 2013 should be a busy year for the Smith family. Before releasing some long-awaited new material later this year, Les Freres Smith and Paris DJs offer you a cover of Fela Kuti's 'Opposite People' captured last summer at the amazing Roskilde Festival in Denmark. Recorded in binaural so that you may hear the music just as if you were there, the whole Smith family hopes you'll enjoy this live take at one of the biggest European festivals. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and get ready to dance! PS check this little video out if you miss a dance step or two. 'Opposite People' is a 1977 Fela classic regularly played and appreciated by Les Freres Smith. Long trance rhythms, powerful horn themes and solos, heavy vintage keyboards and a strong, barely abstract, political message about the colonial mentality, upper class corruption, and more particularly its ability to abuse and impose its vision even if it's opposite to the one of the people. The artwork, by band member Elvis Martinez Smith, is a hijack (or tribute, or both!) of a 1982 poster by Thami Mnyele for the 'Culture and Resistance' festival organised by the Medu Art Ensemble, in Gaborone, Botswana (read more about this movement here). Their story, ideology and actions in South Africa at the time are similar to Fela's crusade and more particularly to the social meaning of the song 'Opposite People', focusing on the disparities, growing gaps and walls between social classes. The 9-11 Dust (Part III) - In this the 3rd of our series on the 9-11 Dust, Visibility 9-11 welcomes to the program John Feal, president of the Feal Good Foundation. One week after September 11th, Christie Todd Whitman stated that, "Given the scope of the tragedy from last week, I am glad to reassure the people of New York and Washington D.C., that their air is safe to breathe and their water is safe to drink.", even as the EPA had information to the contrary. In fact, the 9-11 dust was extremely caustic and in August of 2003, the EPA issued a report showing the changes the Bush administration made to the initial cautionary statements which were originally meant to warn the public of the dangers in the dust. These warnings were changed to reassurances and the public never heard the truth. These lies have resulted in thousands of people getting sick from breathing the toxic dust, and now, over 5 years later, they are dying. If you think our own government isn't capable of deliberately killing its' own citizens, think again. Soon after 9/11, our guest John Feal (a US Army veteran) started experiencing serious respiratory problems, a condition they now call "The World Trade Center Cough." He spent two months in the hospital while he battled with a host of health problems. Because of an arbitrary exclusion in the law, Feal, like many search and rescue workers who were injured during a two-week window at Ground Zero did not qualify for the 9/11 relief fund. Like thousands of others, John risked his own life to save others, but when he became sick and injured, he was abandoned and forgotten. Since 2003, John has acted as a leading advocate for 9/11 heroes who where denied both the benefits promised by the federal, state, local governmental and the charitable aid collected on their behalf. John is also a former board member of Unsung Heroes Helping Heroes, a not-for-profit raising awareness of the plight of 9/11 responders. In addition to assisting 9/11 workers as a whole, John has been active helping Ground Zero workers on an individual basis with administrative issues and by helping first responders get media coverage.Click here to donate to the fund set up by Jon Gold mentioned in the interview.
