Overall, this episode explores the intersection of fitness, personal growth, and self-acceptance, highlighting the importance of physical activity in enhancing various aspects of life. Today, I'm speaking with Elite Ultra Runner, Don Reichelt. He recently ran 250 miles in his longest run yet but it was his multi-record breaking 24 hour treadmill run that had me the most curious about his special kind of crazy!
Today I'm sharing with you my recent conversation with Gary Cantrell - aka Lazarus Lake, he's also been called "evil genius," "The Leonardo da Vinci of pain," and "A master of sadomasochistic craft.” But he'll describe himself as just an old hillbilly who lives in the woods. His races have developed an almost cult-like following and you can consider me a member. Ever since the 2014 documentary on The Barkley Marathons, I've been obsessed. In todays episode we'll talk about who Laz really is, how he does what he does, and why we should dream big dreams and make them happen. Thanks to Laz for joining us. Be sure to check out all his races at lazaruslake.com. I found today's guest through his books Quick Strength for Runners and Smart Marathon training but his first book was published in 2008 called “My first 100 Marathons: 2,260 Miles with an Obsessive Runner. And his latest book is called Ageless Strength: Strong and fit for a lifetime. It's no wonder with all this material under his name, Jeff Horowitz and I had a lot to cover and we get to all of it having a lot of laughs along the way. Over the next hour, we'll cover training, coaching, and our lifelong friendship with running. Runner's are obsessed with food. Whether it's wondering what to eat when or simply dreaming about our next meal while we're on a run, our brains seem to have a one track mind and it's headed straight for the kitchen. On today's episode, I'm sharing my conversation with running dietician, Meghann Featherstun. She is a runner, fueling expert, and a must follow on instagram! But you probably already know that! Today is Monday April 17th! That means it's Marathon Monday! And we are just about an hour from the start of the 2023 Boston Marathon. In honor of this special day, I'm sharing a clip from Boston Local, Runner, and Harvard Professor known for his research on the evolution of the human body and the biomechanics of barefoot running - Dr. Daniel E Lieberman. In this clip we will cover how running represents the concept of community like no other sport - especially at big city marathons including - and specifically Boston since the bombing, and what he thinks is so special about this specific 26.2 distance. The marathon really is a special experience and something to celebrate as a runner and as part of the community. There is nothing like the Boston marathon. From the elite athletes to the incredible volunteers, and supportive city. Congrats to everyone who is running today - don't forget you qualified to be a part of this day and that is already the accomplishment. It's party time! LFG :) Keep running, keep inspiring, and keep sharing how maybe running will help. Have a great run everybody!
