Marcus Aurelius Anderson sits down with Dr. Grace Firestone, a family medicine physician, athlete, and cardiac arrest survivor. Dr. Firestone shares the story of collapsing at 18 years old, spending 10 days in the ICU, and waking up with documented brain injury and compromised heart function. Rather than accepting the limitations placed on her, she pushed forward into college, medical school, and competitive bodybuilding. This conversation covers her early drive rooted in gratitude, the mindset she developed through adversity, her philosophy of practicing what she preaches as a physician, and her work with legendary trainer Charles Glass. Episode Highlights: 0:05 – Dr. Firestone explains why switching to 6:00 AM training at Gold's Gym transformed her efficiency as both an athlete and a physician. 4:22 – She shares the origin of her drive, tracing it back to gratitude, financial aid, and a high school nonprofit she founded called Let the Kids Play. 6:14 – Dr. Firestone recounts the night she suffered sudden cardiac arrest at 18, the CPR her brother performed, the AED shocks, the medically induced coma, and waking up uncertain of her cognitive future. 27:58 – She describes her decision to climb Mount Kilimanjaro despite her defibrillator and medical uncertainty, writing in her journal that she might die on the mountain, and what reaching Uhuru Peak meant for her identity going forward. Dr. Grace Firestone is a board-eligible family medicine physician practicing at UCLA Santa Monica. A cardiac arrest survivor at 18, she rebuilt her life through cognitive therapy, collegiate athletics, and medical training. She specializes in nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle medicine, and trains under world-renowned bodybuilding coach Charles Glass in competitive bodybuilding. Her work as a doctor is grounded in a personal commitment to modeling the habits she prescribes to her patients. She can be found on Instagram at @Dr.Grace_Firestone. https://teachhoops.com/ Summer league is where defensive habits are either built… or destroyed. If you let kids “just play” in June, you'll spend all winter trying to fix the same issues: no talk, lazy closeouts, no box outs, and zero urgency. This episode gives coaches a simple, repeatable way to teach real defense in the summer without turning workouts into misery: One Rule Defense. You don't magically become a good defensive team in-season. You become who you are in June. Whatever you allow now becomes your identity later. Players gamble and reach instead of containing Nobody communicates early on screens and drives Kids watch shots instead of hitting first and finishing possessions Transition defense is casual (jogging, blaming, complaining) Coaches focus on the scoreboard instead of habits Pick one defensive rule for the entire week. Not five. One. Coach it every day until it becomes automatic. One Rule Options to Rotate No Middle: contain and force baseline/side Talk First: ball, help, screen calls—silence is losing Hit First: every shot is contact before pursuit Early Help, Early Recover: help before paint, sprint out on kick Sprint Back and Match: no jogging, point and match up Instead of stopping practice every possession, you score the habit: Follow the rule = +1 Break the rule = -1 Examples: Early screen talk = +1 / silence on screen = -1 Great box out = +1 / watching shot = -1 This turns defense into competition and makes habits visible. Defense isn't just “effort.” It's decisions. Simple teaching cue:Ball. Help. Recover. On-ball: contain and force One pass away: gap help, ready to stunt Two passes away: loaded to ball, ready to tag cutters On drive: help early, recover hard, finish with rebound Closeout + Contain (10 min) High hands, no fly-bys, contain with posture and angles 3v3 With the One Rule (10 min) Example: no middle, talk first, or hit first—rule is enforced by score 4v4 Advantage Rotations (10 min) Offense starts with advantage; defense must rotate, communicate, rebound Pressure Finish: One Stop to Win (5 min) Stops only count if the rule is followed (talk + hit first + matchups) Your 7th–9th players show up on defense in June: sprint back talk do dirty work reset after mistakes don't complain Those are the kids you trust in January. Pick your ONE defensive rule for next week. Write it on the board. Score it in every scrimmage. Praise it out loud. Rep it daily. Win June habits to win January games. That's it – season 2025/26 is in the bag in the City of Discovery. Ups, downs and middling nonsense is all over for another campaign. But what did we make of the final day? Dundee defeated Aberdeen at Dens to notch a superb home record across the entire season and did so in dramatic fashion with Ryan Astley's late winner securing eighth place. Was it a fond farewell for Luke Graham? And what hint of the future did we see against the Dons? Dundee United, meanwhile, finished off their season with a draw at St Mirren in the deadest of dead rubbers. But there's still plenty to discuss including Keir Gilligan's debut in place of the absent Will Ferry, how Sam Cleall-Harding got on and a look ahead to the World Cup. Plus Craig Sibbald's fan fear after Falkirk pre-contract announcement. Tuning in to join host Sean Hamilton are the Courier's Dundee FC writer George Cran and Dundee United writer Alan Temple. The future may be arriving faster than expected in Queens. This week, we break down the growing impact of AJ Ewing and why his emergence is turning heads throughout the organization, while Carson Benge continues to heat up and make his case as one of the most exciting bats in the system. We also dive into the ongoing frustration with over-managing through analytics and discuss why it may be time for the Mets to simply let the young players play through mistakes and develop naturally at the big league level. With injuries continuing to pile up across the roster, questions surrounding lineup construction, player usage, and organizational depth are becoming impossible to ignore.Plus, we explore several hypothetical trade scenarios as the deadline slowly creeps closer — should the Mets buy, sell, or attempt to walk the line between both? Which veterans could become movable pieces, and what type of additions would actually make sense for the future of the organization? All of that and more on this episode of the podcast!FOLLOW on Instagram, YouTube & X: @cupofmetsSUBSCRIBE on Spotify, Apple or wherever you get your favorite podcasts!DOWNLOAD The SeatGeek App - Use Code: "CUPOFMETS" to get $20.00 off!

So how do parents talk honestly about hard things without overwhelming or frightening their kids? Drawing from her experience as a missionary, parent, and ministry leader, Beth shares practical, faith-filled wisdom for navigating tough conversations with confidence and compassion. Together, they discuss how to discern what to share (and what not to share), signs your child may be struggling even when they aren't saying much, simple ways to create safe spaces for emotional processing, and how families can remain rooted in hope when the world feels heavy. MYPB Ep. 225: Kids Play Well, Long Term Impact Live from the Undefeated Media Studios!
The Chicago Blackhawks wrapped up the road portion of their season on a much more encouraging note compared to last year, and the improvement is starting to feel real. The guys dive into why this season should be viewed as a success when it comes to growth—whether it's the structure, the competitiveness, or the way younger players are handling bigger roles. It's not about the standings right now, it's about building something sustainable, and you can see that foundation starting to take shape heading into next season.A big part of the conversation centers around Kevin Korchinski and the noticeable shift in how fans are talking about him. Earlier in his development, the criticism was loud, but now that people are seeing the progression, the tone has changed. That leads into a broader discussion about patience—especially when it comes to a prospect like Artyom Levshunov. Development isn't always linear, and the Korchinski experience should serve as a reminder that young defensemen, in particular, take time. They also get into what the team should do with André Burakovsky and whether he fits into the long-term vision or if it makes more sense to move on. It's one of those decisions that could signal how aggressive the front office plans to be this offseason. To close things out, the guys zoom out and look ahead to the playoffs across the league. With the postseason around the corner, there's plenty to be excited about—even outside of Chicago—as the next wave of contenders and storylines begins to take shape.Hosts:Jarom @ZachJaromTannerX: @WCBPodcastInstagram: @WCBPodcastFacebook: WCBPodcast..#nhl #hockey #blackhawks #icehockey #chicagoblackhawks #podcast
