    Koshas and Self Care, a template for well-being

    This podcast lays out the Koshas, the layers of self, as a template for self-care. These are the Koshas: Annamaya The annamaya kosha is the physical sheath that composes the outer layer. It's sometimes referred to as the food sheath. Your body weight or size can reflect your physical sheath, as well as any physical ailments or concerns you have. You can also pay attention to how your body reacts to different types of food. The pranamaya kosha is the vital energy, breath, or life force sheath. In Sanskrit, the word “prana” refers to life force and is the word for breath. Awareness of this kosha allows you to move stagnant energy, so you can experience greater vitality and an energetic connection to yourself, others, and nature. The manomaya kosha is contained within the annamaya and pranamaya koshas. It acts as a messenger, bringing experiences and sensations from the outer world into your intuitive body. This is the mental sheath that represents your: mind emotions inner world This layer includes thought forms, mental activity, and awareness of thoughts. Getting in touch with this kosha involves looking at your perceptions and mental patterns. The vijnanamaya kosha is the astral or psychic body that's your seat of intuition. Known as the awareness or wisdom sheath, it allows you to develop a deeper awareness and to see reality for what it is. Thought of as “the mind beyond the mind,” this kosha is connected to your deeper and more subtle layers of thoughts. The vijnanamaya kosha helps develop clarity and inner reflection as you learn to detach from your thoughts, ego, or sense of self. By remaining the witness, you may learn to become more present and aware of each moment. The anandamaya kosha is referred to as the bliss body. It's the deepest and subtlest of all layers — so much so that some people even say you can't use words to describe it. Instead, it must be felt and experienced. Developing your anandamaya kosha requires the discipline to complete inner work and spiritual practices over a long period. This level of consciousness relates to the essence of your true self or nature, which is perfection. Transcending all five sheaths can lead to a state of samadhi, or unity between individual and universal consciousness. This is said to be pure bliss or joy. While you may not reach samadhi, you may experience glimpses or moments of bliss that are bright enough to color your world and awaken these feelings of joy, even if only for brief moments. For this new moon I encourage you to reflect on each layer of the self and set the intention of caring for each in alignment with the cycles of nature, with fall, letting go, softening and surrender.     Aloha Beloveds! Wow- what a wonderful Full Moon Conversation with my dear friend, mentor and Co Creator Joy Clarissa Taylor. You will love how honest, relatable and wise Joy is.     Today's peace practice is the cultivation of Intentional Solitude. There are many reasons to make intentional solitude the core of your spiritual practice. You cannot tune into your True Self and listen to the Truth if you are constantly around others or distracted by social media, activity, or numbing your feelings. Solitude gives us the opportunity to reflect, contemplate, and tune into what we need. It's the space to feel feelings that need privacy. It is where you can listen to what you need and what will truly nourish you. It is when you will hear the callings of your soul and desires of your body. Solitude is where you welcome all parts of you back home. Where you make amends and repair the relationship with your being, your body, your heart, your soul. It is when and where you can listen to nature and tune into the rhythm of the Earth. So often we end up hurting ourselves or others because we don't have solitude built into our daily rhythms. Even if you love those you are with you will burn out if you don't have the chance to plug back into yourself. It can be really hard because there is a lot of social pressure to be with others around this time of year. Honor, care and respect yourself and need to retreat. You don't need anyone's permission, and you are not responsible if people take it personally. Your top priority is your health and well being.     Final Full Moon 2022 Reflection: Peace Practice Day 7

    Day 7 Full Moon Reflection Today's Peace Practice is a Full Moon Reflection. It is the Final Full Moon of 2022. Life is like being on a canoe trip. Life is the river. You are in a canoe with a paddle. Surrender and trust are skills you develop as you learn to go with the flow. But you also have to learn how to skillfully read the river, adjust your weight in the canoe, and use your paddle, so you can enjoy a joyful ride. If you let your canoe just be tossed around, you are going to get wet a lot and spend a lot of time bailing water out of the boat. Of course, you may tip when you get into big water at first. If you reflect on what happened with honesty, you can learn from the mistakes, and practice your paddling, so you are less likely to flip next time. That is why it's vital to contemplate, reflect honestly on your life on a continual basis. The full moon is a wonderful time to do this each month, and with this final full moon of 2022- take time to reflect on this year. Set aside a few hours and do a big overview, or you can do these practices over the next week, using your daily journaling time to reflect intentionally over the past year, to celebrate what is wonderful in your life, the epic views you took in, the places you journeyed, and people you adventured with. And to take an honest inventory of the lessons you learned in the white water of life in 2022, so you can be more skillful in 2023. Because white water is inevitable, it's how you respond and play with the big waves that matters.     Walking Meditation: Embody Truth and Love, Peace Practice Day 3

    Welcome to Day 3 of our Daily Peace Practice, counting down to the Darkest Day of the Year. This practice is a Walking Meditation, designed to balance your body and breath, and embody the Values or intentions you have for the day. I chose Truth and Love, but you can tune into what you need and adapt this meditation. Practice with the recording, and then once you have it in your body try it on your own. This is a wonderful practice to share with friends or family you are walking with. Notice how it changes your day if you do this practice in the morning. It will also shift how your evening unfolds if you take time to practice between work and coming home. More about 21 Days of Peace: As we enter the darkest time of year and Winter Solstice 2022, we are invited into greater stillness. As it gets darker in the Northern Hemisphere, we naturally are called inward, to reflect and cultivate peace within. This is the time of the North, of death, of hibernation and Bear Medicine. In our culture we do not tend to honor times of death, and want to always be in productive mode. This runs our bodies and spirits ragged. These practices return you to a daily place of stillness and Peace within. Honoring the death of behaviors and ways of living that do not serve us any longer,- obstacles to experiencing and living from a place of Truth and Unconditional Love. They keep us from Joy. The Alchemy offered though daily practice cannot be put into words. It is something you must experience. Everything you do with your hands in the world, can be an extension of your heart, of Love. How you feed yourself, how you care for yourself and others, the work you do, what you type and text, how you drive, how you clean your home, it is all connected to your heart. This is one of the reasons I love journaling and painting, as well as creating things and making things with my hands. Also, you can Alchemize and transform anything you touch or connect to through your hands, by bringing this energy into your heart and the center of Unconditional Love within. Your hands have the capacity to heal and soothe your body through loving touch. This energy is abundant, in and around us, it is not personal or unique. All it takes is awareness to start to feel and consciously direct the flow of energy to create Loving shifts in your world. The Meditation/ Self reflection practice for this question is addressing the first question: How do I know which Chakra needs attention? Adapted from Anodea Judith's incredible book Eastern Body, Western Mind, I have recorded a self-reflection that goes through each of the Chakras Root to Crown. Listen to the recording, and journal after you complete this meditation, writing down anything that comes up. You can also journal as you listen, writing down realizations or reflections that come up. If you feel overwhelmed or flooded at any point, pause this meditation and you can always return when your body is feeling safe. There is a lot in this reflection. Take your time. Be gentle with yourself. There is also a lot more to go into and learn about Chakras and how it is a path to healing and awakening. If you have further questions, please ask.     WildSacredSexuality: Connecting Heart and Sex

    Welcome to the first of my Wild Sacred Sexuality series. This guided meditation and breathing practice is called "Connecting Heart and Sex," and is directly from Sexual Awakening for Women: A Tantric Workbook by Dr Shakti Mari Malan. The the intention of this practice is to open and connect the receptive Sexual Feminine Energy of your Yoni, with the Unconditional Love of your Heart and Breasts. Then, allow these energy centers to nourish, support and amplify one another as you learn to cycle prana (life force energy) in your physical and energetic bodies. This is an intimate recording, and includes some beautiful anatomical and metaphorical descriptions of a woman's body. You can benefit from this practice if you are biologically female and want to connect your physical and energetic Yoni and Breasts, and/ or if you want to connect with your inner feminine Yoni and Brest energies and the interplay between them (regardless of your biological sex or gender identification.) Make a nest for yourself. Ensure that your body is very comfortable, able to move and make noises, and not be interrupted before, during or after this practice (give yourself time to integrate and ground after, going outside in nature barefoot or swimming naked is ideal, or taking a bath, practicing gentle Yoga, or drinking a nourishing and grounding mug of Cacao). Trust your body. You cannot do this practice 'wrong.' This is a beautiful practice to do first thing in the morning to awaken the energies you want to receive and share, before making love with yourself or another person, or in the evening to wind down into a blissful sleep. Please be aware that Wild Sacred Sexuality practices may (and probably will) awaken memories, emotions and energies that may have been frozen.
