Mental health is misunderstood in western societies even in the best of times, even though it is one of the biggest underlying causes of premature death and costing society $50bn in Australia and $300bn US. A great deal of the content in this podcast relates to the RISE course Gary and Soma are facilitating, and the guys delve further into specific practices people can use in their everyday lives.  The guys also talk about Stoicism, Buddhism, and Vedic philosophy, whose concepts are infused with a degree of uncertainty to reflect the nature of the times they came into being.   In addition, modern mental models like reframing are highlighted to give listeners a better chance of responding to situations instead of reacting. This journey is the central premise for the documentary ‘2040', a story of hope that looks at the very real possibility that humanity could reverse global warming and improve the lives of every living thing in the process. It is a positive vision of what ‘could be', instead of the dystopian future we are so often presented. In this episode we sit down with Damon in front of a live audience in the Soma dome and explored his remarkable personal journey and the rising tide of innovative change that is taking place across the planet, much of which we never hear about. Damon calls upon our need for radical hope and radical regenerative action to restore balance to our precious planet and all those beings who share it.

Welcome to the Soma collective podcast with me your host for this episode Peter Ostick, where we look to find the intersection between consciousness, creativity and the art of living.  This week I am delighted to have on the show Megan Osborn.  Megan specialises in Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) which is a process for unlocking negative emotional complexes that are stored in the body.  I have been doing some work with Megan over the last 12 months and found it really impactful as have some of the other Soma team members, so we thought we would get her on the show.  We explore the concept of the “body mind” which was popularised by Dr Candice Pert in her book molecules of emotion.  We dive straight into the detail of the science behind her work which sets us up to talk about how NET works and its origins.  One of the areas that we discuss in detail is the idea of conditioned responses which Ivan Pavlov documented and something which is incredibly valuable to understand for anyone trying to develop a thriving mental framework.  Megan is such a legend and incredibly intelligent, I always enjoy talking with her and hope you do to.  I give you Megan Osborn.

According to science, happiness occurs when chemicals like endorphins, dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin are released. Dr Saamdu Chetri, however, defines happiness as “living in harmony with nature, living in harmony and balance with others around you and being in touch with yourself and your own wisdom.” Since 1971, the country of Bhutan has prioritised its citizen's happiness over economic growth. In the last 20 years Bhutan has doubled life expectancy, enrolled almost 100% of its children in primary school and overhauled its infrastructure. Bhutan citizens meditate once a day, conserve traditional values rather than accumulate materialistic things, care for their environment, remain carbon neutral, ensure 60% of their landmass remains under forest cover, protect their wildlife, care as much for their neighbours as they do for their immediate families and all educational facilities are green. Gary Gorrow sits down with Dr Chetri and explore how happiness can create the conditions for social, economic, environmental, psychological and spiritual wellbeing.
