Employees crave feedback on how to improve their performance, but according to workplace surveys, most say they don't get it. Taylor Griffin and Samantha Smith suggest asking for advice, not feedback. Advice changes the content from backward-looking and often negative to something that is forward-looking and framed in a more constructive, developmental manner.

In November of 1982, at the height of the Cold War, Samantha Smith, a 10-year-old girl from Manchester, Maine, wrote to the Soviet leader Yuri Andropov and asked him if he was going to wage a nuclear war against the U.S. When an unprecedented response from Andropov arrived, and Samantha received an invitation to visit the USSR, she and her family embarked on a journey that brought the two warring nations closer together. We speak with author Lena Nelson who was born in the Soviet Union and has spent the past 15 years researching and documenting the story of Samantha Smith and creating an archive at https://www.samanthasmith.info/. Lena reveals how Samantha Smith's journey in the summer of 1983 helped melt the hearts of the Soviets and thaw the ice of the Cold War. We talk about the interviews she conducted in both the US and Russia with key players in the events of those days and tell the story of this unprecedented moment in history. We go deep today with Samantha Smith in a conversation that comes straight from the soul around the topic of feminine leadership. This is Samantha's magic and gift - her ability to cut straight to the truth.Samantha is a life transformation coach and the mission of her heart is to guide women by teaching them the tools and modalities to change their lives in big ways. Sam's life shifted the day she declined corporate job offers and moved to Spain. Not only did this expand and open her to a new way of living, but it also sent her on a deep self development journey which she is still on today. Sam's business has shifted over the years from life coaching, mindset and conscious reprogramming to focusing on business mentorship and past life regression (what an evolution!).I am absolutely fascinated with past life regression. We discuss what sparked Sam's interest in past life regression and she reveals how it transformed her looming fear of death and allowed her to open herself up to the human experience. If you're as intrigued as I am, you'll love to hear about the process and what these trips back into past lives reveal, including how they can be totally transformative for our businesses.Sam's deep interest in spirituality was founded and birthed in Spain and she explains how fusing strategy and spirituality in business is absolutely key to success. Sam has come to understand that our two biggest spiritual assignments in life are relationships and entrepreneurship. They are our biggest mirrors and we chat about how they have a way of cracking you wide open to reveal your shadows and limiting beliefs. I find Sam's approach to business so inspiring because she genuinely embodies feminine leadership. We discuss what characterises this approach to leadership and how it can bring softness back into the vision we're building for our businesses. We also dive into how important it is to shift our beliefs around money. The more we can put wealth and abundance in the hands of intuitive, heart-centred women, the better our world will naturally become.Sam is an intuitive guide and an angel. Her wisdom, from almost a decade of self-love and transformation, is such a gift. You are going to love this one.LINKSConnect with Samantha Smith:Podcast: Make Shift HappenInstagram: @_samanthadailyWebsite: https://www.samanthadaily.com/Send me a DM on INSTAGRAM
Four decades ago, a Maine fifth grader named Samantha Smith, who was worried about nuclear war, wrote a letter to Soviet leader Yuri Andropov. Her post script, in neat schoolgirl block letters – “Please write back” – eventually worked its charm: Mr. Andropov invited her on a free trip to the USSR to see, he said, that “everybody in the Soviet Union stands for peace and friendship among nations.” Also, today's stories, including: NATO has quietly taken the step of putting its strategic headquarters on what military officials there describe as “war fighting” footing. A violent standoff between supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Pakistani authorities has put pressure on the country's legal system. What would justice look like to each side? As the culture wars drift further into the education realm, they're spawning questions fundamentally tied to American democracy. At one of the most dangerous moments in the Cold War, an ordinary 5th grade girl from Maine wrote to the leader of the Soviet Union with a simple plea for peace. When he wrote back with an invitation to visit the Soviet Union in the summer of 1982, it became an international news story and one of the most improbable peace missions of the era. Mo tells the story of the “Littlest Diplomat” and how she became a powerful symbol of shared humanity on both sides of the iron curtain. Guests include childhood friends of Samantha, her Russian “summer camp buddy” and actor Robert Wagner. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
