And one of the biggest proponents of this? Adam Conover. He really DOES ruin everything...

It was a called shot during the fantasy football draft episode, and it was only a matter of time before Aaron Rodgers succumbed to the fate that would involve playing for the New York Jets (1:45). A complete tragedy that had the Internet erupt with the best memes since "The Butt Fumble" The Gents definitely had a field day the day after Week 1 wrapped for the NFL. All jokes aside, EstoBro gives major praise to audience members new and old for being patient with TV and him, as they gear up for what entertainment news has shaken down recently. The One Piece is very real, and so is the hype behind it (23:30). After the debut of the live-action adaptation on Netflix, the momentum of the popular pirate manga is exploding more than ever. This has been a topic explored over several episodes on the podcast, and TV definitely praises his co-host for getting him hooked on it. EstoBro enables the question to TV if we really need another Expendables movie with the fourth installment coming soon (48:00). A sequel that is almost a decade in the making with a lackluster cast, The Gents are pessimistic about this latest film by Sylvester Stallone. They also turn their attention to the latest DCEU films that have been in the limelight between The Flash and Blue Beetle (53:45), with the former being in mixed reviews between EstoBro and TV. With James Gunn at the helm for the future of DC comic book films during the middle of the writer's strike, it makes a great deal of sense that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is coming soon this holiday. Speaking of the SAG-AFTRA strike (64:00), the Gents are concerned that actors have lobbied for voice actors to go after video game companies over the same motions. Will the strike ever end? Will Megan Fox join the Straw Hat crew? Find out more by tuning into this week's episode of the EstoBro TV Podcast. It is a privilege to welcome South Side Studios head and Talon Entertainment President Steven Demmler to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. As a teenager, Steven began catching cue cards at Studio 8H – the legendary home of Saturday Night Live. Currently, he is spearheading efforts to bring Hollywood to Texas through South Side Studios. The studio is known for being the only large-scale film and TV production facility and studio located in the heart of Dallas. Recently, the facilities have been used to film binge-watching favorites, including The CW's The Chosen and Dallas, along with five seasons of Queen of the South. Also, South Side Studios is in south Dallas, less than two miles from downtown. Currently, South Side Studios is now going through a multi-million-dollar upgrade. Their extensive renovation plan includes the construction of five cutting-edge soundstages on the existing property, each ranging in size with dimensions of approximately 8,000, 20,000, 25,000, and two 15,000 square feet, respectively. The studio will house a state-of-the-art post-production facility, production offices, a mill, a prop house, camera packages, and G&E packages. The renovation will also feature two new production studios, including a massive 270-degree wall and ceiling setup with complete tracking and robotic camera equipment. Steven Demmler leverages South Side Studios' comprehensive experience across film, television, and global finance to design, fund, and realize his creative visions. The Dallas Film Commissioner and award-winning Tony Armer is on his Board of Advisors. In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Steven Demmler reflected on the lessons he learned from Saturday Night Live and hopes South Side Studios will propel Dallas to become an essential part of the film industry.
SERIES 2 EPISODE 35: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:43) SPECIAL COMMENT: Congratulations, Kevin McCarthy on a unique feat: impeaching YOURSELF. McCarthy and the Republicans got their wish – the framework of a Joe Biden Impeachment and in less than 72 hours they have so COMPLETELY obscured it and overshadowed it and knocked it off the front pages that not even the right wing outlets are talking about IT, they're talking about McCARTHY. It's going so well for Soon-To-Be-Former-House-Speaker Kevin McCarthy that a senior Republican lawmaker has now told Semafor News that this ends when quote, “The whole family kills each other. I think we're close to that right now. We are in maybe the Godfather TWO stage.” McCarthy that he met with his House Conference, dared them to oust him as Speaker, and then swore at them. “Go ahead. I'm not (effing) scared of it… move the (effing) motion.” And a Republican Congressional aide says that the Freedom Caucus members are quote “hellbent on losing the majority” for the GOP in the House. McCarthy, who was not smart enough to KNOW the story of Newt Gingrich's implosion under similar impeachment circumstances in 1998 (let alone use it as a template to avoid creating his current drama in which he is not only the hostage but the guy who showed the hostage takers how to TAKE the hostage) is probably not smart enough – when it comes to this - to quit. So the House will suspend while they hose down what's left of him off the walls and then if we're all real quiet, through our windows and doors will come the faint but unmistakable sound of President Biden laughing his ass off. Meanwhile, the Kristen Welker “Big Splash” sitdown for her Meet The Press Debut was arguably WORSE than expected. They throw clips on Nightly News with Lester Holt and in one he says to her he could've pardoned himself and he makes up stories about legal authorities and she smiles vapidly at him and instead of saying “You do know we all know you're lying” or even just “honey please” she says “even if you were re-elected?” as if she were asking some nitwit on Dateline whether or not he'd go to the prom with the murder victim again. And she asks him what he thinks about Hunter Biden which is like seeing “For my next question, President Trump, free topic! Say whatever you want!” And THEN HE says “You mean because I challenge an election, they want to put me in jail?” and instead of saying something like – well, anything – she stares vapidly and they cut to Lester and Lester stares vapidly and then says “He had a pretty interesting answer” and you are reminded that Lester reached the apogee of his journalistic career in his cameo at the end of the movie “The Fugitive” in 1993. And as the GOP implodes, I sit here and I almost pray that somebody in the Democratic Party has the vision to say “the Republicans are in trouble, let's make sure we make it far worse for them. THIS is the time: release the Comer," As the prospect looms that McCarthy will be ousted and somebody - maybe Oversight Chairman James Comer - will succeed him, now is the moment to push the 2015 allegations that surfaced when Comer ran for governor: He was credibly accused ago of physically and mentally abusing his college girlfriend from the early 1990's, and credibly accused calling her mother and threatening the girlfriend's life. And credibly accused of becoming “enraged” after finding that she had written-in his real name on the paperwork at the abortion clinic the quote “Pro-life” unquote Comer had driven her to, to end THEIR pregnancy oh and she still had that paperwork in a safe deposit box. B-Block (24:28) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Lauren Boebert of the anti-drag party, is dating a bar owner who reportedly hosted a drag party. Drew Barrymore re-starts her talk show even though the writers are on strike. That makes her a SCAB. Bill Maher re-starts his "comedy" show even though the writers are on strike (and he insults the writers in the process) and he is a SCAB. (32:25) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: I didn't know until 2009 that Maher and I met at Cornell in 1978 and in less than a minute he'd been so obnoxious I was ready to sock him. In a terrific irony considering his scabbing for his corporate masters, way back then he called me a "corporate sellout." C-Block (47:45) FRIDAYS WITH THURBER: The immortal short story "The Night The Bed Fell."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Have you ever wondered about the political economy of movie-making?Like, why are Hollywood movies globally hegemonic, and why is South Korea its only rival, and why are most foreign countries mere backlots for American studios? What does it have to do with the Netflix-Hulu-Amazon-Disney+ streaming model? Why are the WGA and SAG-AFTRA on strike? What kind of solidarities unite American writers and actors with Korean writers and actors? And what is the future of film? Some really big questions, and US foreign policy plays a role in answering them, remarkably. I sat down with writer/director/producer/editor Kevin Fox to discuss. It's Glee's Gaga approved history-making episode all about acceptance! Except Kevin and Jenna didn't really love this episode when they re-watched it… at first! What made them change their tune… Was it the return of Kurt? The scene where they didn't have to act? Or Santana's one-liners? Plus, this super-sized episode features the number two most-listened to Glee song, and it's not "Born This Way." **We stand in solidarity with our union, SAG-AFTRA, during the strike. Here, today, right now, those developing generative AI are threatening to put a lot of us out of work. In October of 2020, the World Economic Forum said that while AI would likely take away 85 million jobs globally by 2025 (and we're more than halfway there, by the way), it would also generate 97 million new jobs in fields ranging from big data and machine learning to information security and digital marketing. And for a prime example of just how this is happening, look no further than our own industry and the current SAG-AFTRA and Writer's Guild of America strikes against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which includes the major streaming services and Hollywood studios. _____________________________ ▶️ Watch this video next: https://youtu.be/BzSc3XNnXls SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/@paulschmidtpro?sub_confirmation=1 The VO Freedom Master Plan: https://paulschmidtpro.com/vo-freedom-master-plan The VO Pro Community: https://vopro.app My Move Touch Inspire Newsletter for Voice Actors: https://paulschmidtpro.com/move-touch-inspire-youtube Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/vofreedom 7 Steps to Staring and Developing a Career in Voiceover: https://members.paulschmidtpro.com/7-steps-yt Say Hi on Social: https://pillar.io/paulschmidtpro https://www.instagram.com/paulschmidtvo https://www.clubhouse.com/@paulschmidtvo https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulschmidtvo/ My voice over website: https://paulschmidtvoice.com Tools and People I Work with and Recommend (If you use these links to buy something I may earn a commission.): Recommended Book List with Links: https://amzn.to/3H9sBOO Gear I Use with Links: https://amzn.to/3V4d3kZ As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. The “first time in 63 years” strike, where SAG-AFTRA has joined the WGA in a labor stoppage due to stalled negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers or AMPTP. And so today we wanted to come on and address this strike and state that we here at IFG stand firmly with our fellow actors and writers in this strike. We hope that at the end of this we will see them protected for their talents and compensated duly for their work. While attempting to understand just what the AMPTP is and it's impact on negotiations with the union, an old and usually overlooked question emerged: just what is a studio film and what is an independent film? And why does it matter to all of us? Again, IFG is in firm support of this strike. This feels like an inflection point for the industry on every level. The stakes are high. And we hope that a modern contract is agreed to, and that independent filmmaking remains a thriving and supportive part of our awesome industry, helping all of us tell the stories each of us want to share.More information about all this, and how to support - be it with donations or showing up on the picket lines, and all updates, go to SAGAFTRASTRIKE.ORG IFG | How Movies Get Made

EPISODE 246: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: As a Democratic Congressman Jared Moskowitz asked the trillion-dollar question – whether James Comer and the House Oversight Committee and their indicted fugitive Chinese Agent witness have quote “jeopardized Homeland Security in their search to help Donald Trump” – Comer and Nancy Mace and Speaker McCarthy and all the others attached at the hip to Gal Luft have Thelma-And-Louised it and they are headed right for the edge of the Grand Canyon. Moskowitz is not yet trying to put this directly under noses AT Homeland Security but that is the inevitable outcome. Gal Luft is indicted as a Chinese agent and the Republicans are trying to use him to help Trump seize power. People go to prison for this. Is Comer adroitly fleeing? Not at all. He has scheduled more hearings next week with his OTHER discredited "witness." And Speaker McCarthy has claimed the revelation that Luft was indicted 254 days ago only increases his credibility because it emphasizes that nobody indicted Hunter Biden and McCarthy is not a bright man, just a clever one, like the rat who can find the quickest way through the maze to the cheese that is the House Speakership. NOW would be the right time to explain this whole thing with the Chinese Energy company C-E-F-C that Gol Looft and Hunter Biden did indeed both work for, and why the similarity ends there, and why it is a dangerous thing to let a man as dumb as Kevin McCarthy try to “extrapolate” anything when it is a remarkable development that in that sound bite you just heard Kevin McCarthy SPELL “C-E-F-C” correctly. Here is the Kevin McCarthy-Jamie Comer “extrapolation.” Hunter Biden consulted for the Chinese energy company C-E-F-C. Thus to the Republicans that means he WORKED for C-E-F-C. Thus to the Republicans that means he TOOK MONEY from C-E-F-C. Thus to the Republicans that means the ENTIRE BIDEN FAMILY was BANKROLLED by C-E-F-C. Thus to the Republicans that means the ENTIRE BIDEN FAMILY was BRIBED by C-E-F-C. This is known not just as extrapolation but as sophistry. Let's use the same process here about somebody else: ME. I used to be the lead sportscaster Fox Sports News owned by Rupert Murdoch and News Corp. Thus to the Republicans that means I WORKED for Rupert Murdoch and News Corp. Thus to the Republicans that means I TOOK MONEY from Rupert Murdoch and News Corp. Thus to the Republicans that means that the entire OLBERMANN FAMILY was bankrolled by Rupert Murdoch and News Corp. Thus to the Republicans that means that the entire OLBERMANN FAMILY was BRIBED by Rupert Murdoch and News Corp. I think I am spotting a subtle failure in the chain of logic here. Plus: his name is Eli Crane and until yesterday his only claim to fame was founding a company that made shell casings into bottle openers. And then he explained he was NOT trying to keep "colored people" out of the military. Ooops. B-Block (22:40) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Hats of to Representative Kamlager-Dove of Los Angeles. She responds to Marjorie Barney Rubble Greene in the truly correct manner: by asking for Advil. And the Actors' and Writers' strikes are seen from many perspectives but have you ever considered it this way: L.A. is a factory town. 18 of every 1000 employees works IN entertainment and the other 982 want to. Southern California could be in a new Great Depression within six months. (35:02) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The congressman who reportedly edited his own wikipedia entries; the "Fresh Fit" podcast that suddenly added "Fuentes Holocaust Denial;" and Ohio State Representative Bob Young, who in two hours attacked his wife, his brother, and his brother's Storm Window. In the case of the latter - by crashing through it. C-Block (41:00) FRIDAYS WITH THURBER: Only a master could combine obvious misogyny with equally obvious certainty that women were better than men. And James Thurber was a master, as you'll hear in his deadpan epic "Mr. Treble Gets Rid Of His Wife."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It's Friday Eve... Howie Klein is here. We talk politics, as he runs the Blue America PAC and writes a lot at DownWithTyranny.com. But we also often talk music. Before Howie went into progressive politics full-time, he was in the music industry. I met him probably close to 30 years ago when I was doing music radio in Los Angeles and Howie was president of Reprise Records! When politics gets too toxic we have somewhere else to go! Today, I'll tell you about what I didn't have time for yesterday, and that's the secret about credit cards and usurious interest rates they're charging. I did some research and I'll tell you which cards to use, if you must... Also, it appears that the actors are the next group to go on strike and join the WGA. I reached out to an old friend yesterday who happens to be on the Executive Board of SAG/AFTRA. You might remember David Jolliffe (if you're an old fart like me) from when he played Bernie on the early 70s show ROOM 222. He'll join us one day next week to fill us in on the behind-the-scenes stuff. But I'll share some of our back and forth with you today.
