We all have responsibilities. But if we are not careful, we can do too much and forget about ourselves. Without healthy boundaries, we sometimes say yes to things we don't want to do. Most addicts are confused about life. There is much growing up needed for us.Because of our self-centeredness, dealing with everyday living is difficult. Recovery is a process of maturing and learning how to respond to life. Not that maturing is easy. On the contrary, growing up is difficult, especially in the beginning. But we grin and stay vigilant. We change and grow up over here.
We are a product of what we tell ourselves, what we believe, and the actions we take.We must be careful of what we tell ourselves. Paying attention to how we respond to compliments can tell us a lot about ourselves. Can we receive them gratefully, or do we minimize them?Learning to feel good about ourselves is what this episode about. These tools that help me build my self-worth and self-esteem.

Life is a series of decisions and consequences. It's okay to act despite the consequences if you are willing to pay the price.Sometimes that price can lead you to desperation. Only through desperation do some people seek a Power greater than themselves. And that's a blessing.
If you want peace of mind, it's a good idea to focus on yourself.Focusing on what others are doing is a setup. Our mind gives us a destructive pattern to live in.We must break that pattern if we want to live joyous and free. Keeping our side of the street clean does just that. It reminds us we only have power over ourselves.
When we get to recovery, our thinking is still insane. We face a tough decision once the drugs are gone.Addicts have to deal with what took them to the drugs. Changing our lifestyle maybe even as hard as it was to quit using. We learn not to act on negative feelings to recover.
In this episode, Barby Ingle defined Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) and what it's like living with chronic pain. She discussed her mindset of losing everything she worked hard for. God wants the best for you. He's not going to deliver it to you. You have to be willing to put in the work to get it. If you want something different you have to be willing to do something differently. If nothing changes then nothing changes. When it comes to the battle between intending and action, action wins all the time.
The best way to get a good understanding of ourselves is by becoming aware of our inner child. When we aren't aware of our inner child, we look for others to heal us or complete us. The 12 steps take us back to our childhood experiences which had an impact on our development and beliefs. This process starts our inner healing. Sadly, without knowing ourselves on this level, many never outgrow the self-centeredness of a child.
