The Breaking Up with Anxiety Podcast is an educational podcast covering how to relieve and resolve chronic anxiety through the powerful combination of food, lifestyle changes, nutraceuticals, gut and hormonal health optimization, nervous system regulation, yoga and meditation, lifestyle coaching and more.
In today's episode I sat down with clinical psychologist Diante Fuchs to chat about how to make yourself anxiety relapse proof. This was such a great conversation! I can't wait for you to listen. In this episode, we explore why anxiety is a symptom of something deeper, not a standalone problem, and treating it like the enemy only keeps you stuck. We talk about the 3-part framework that every anxious woman should know: addressing the root causes (like trauma, gut health, or hormones), shifting how you respond to anxiety itself, and supporting the body through nervous system and physiological regulation. Most approaches only address one piece, which is why progress can feel temporary. And of course, as the episode title suggests, we unpack the fear of “relapse” and why anxiety coming back doesn't mean you've failed. You'll learn how to approach those flare ups differently, without spiraling, and how to use them as reminders, not verdicts. This conversation is a reminder that no one else can “fix” it for you, but that's not a bad thing. You're not powerless. With the right tools and a fresh perspective, you can shift the way anxiety shows up in your life. I was also on Diante's podcast chatting about all things gut health, the gut-brain connection, and how your diet affects anxiety. Click here to listen! I hope this conversation makes you feel supported, seen, and more equipped to trust yourself the next time anxiety tries to take the lead. At just 20 years old, Lindsey Graves' life changed forever when she experienced the sudden loss of her college roommate and sorority sister. She developed paralyzing anxiety, panic disorder, and dissociation symptoms (DPDR). Like so many women, she turned to her doctor for answers and was quickly prescribed multiple medications, without truly understanding what her body was going through. After five years of being on benzodiazepines and SSRIs (and still struggling daily) Lindsey had a pivotal realization: "God didn't create you to suffer every day." That moment sparked her journey into holistic approaches, nervous system regulation, mindset rewiring, dietary changes, and gut health work, and ultimately led to her full recovery. In today's episode, Lindsey shares her story of how trauma can instantly change your brain and body, the emotional pain of feeling isolated and misunderstood, and why medication alone didn't heal her anxiety or panic. We explore the truth about nervous system dysregulation, the often misunderstood reality of depersonalization and derealization (DPDR), and the critical role that gut health, diet, and brain rewiring played in her healing journey. Lindsey is living proof that even after the deepest anxiety, panic, and dissociation, full recovery is possible. She now shares her journey and practical techniques with thousands through her Instagram community @amazing.anxiety, offering hope, empowerment, and real solutions to women all over the world. If you are over the age of 35 or within a few years of 35, this episode is for you! Dr. Stephanie Cowie is back on the podcast today for a deep-dive conversation on Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) and its powerful connection to women's mental health, aging, and overall wellness during perimenopause and menopause. In this episode, we unpack the difference between BHRT and synthetic hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and why that distinction really matters. We also discuss the major gap in traditional medical training when it comes to supporting women through perimenopause and menopause, and how that impacts the kind of care many women receive. Hormonal shifts can begin as early as age 35, with symptoms often peaking in the late 30s to early 50s. Dr. Cowie emphasizes the importance of starting BHRT at the right time, and breaks down what to expect from a thorough intake, lab testing, and symptom monitoring process when exploring your options. I hope this conversation empowers you to feel more informed, supported, and hopeful as you move through perimenopause and postmenopause. This week I am joined by another Breaking Up With Anxiety® Program client… Meghan!! When Meghan joined the program, she was at rock bottom. Life was a blur. She had been on SSRIs for 14 years and experienced extreme health anxiety, even around taking basic supplements. She was afraid to be alone with her kids because she felt so uncomfortable in her own body. She often had her mother-in-law come over whenever her husband wasn't home, and she was carrying around a lot of postpartum weight. Despite having gone through therapy, cutting out sugar, and staying on medication, nothing ever fully worked. She thought her nutrition was solid. She thought she was doing everything possible. But the anxiety kept coming back in full force, especially after the birth of her second child. Now Meghan has her life back. She's not just surviving. She's actually enjoying her life again. She's started to taper off her medication. She no longer ruminates. She no longer fears supplements. She's home alone with her children with confidence. She's lost 82 pounds, reversed her prediabetes, has perfect hormone labs, and even noticed that her dry, cracked feet are gone (yes, that's a thing!). She's even considering going back to school for functional nutrition because that's how much this process has lit a fire under her. I hope this conversation shows you that anxiety doesn't have to be your forever, and that real, lasting relief is possible, even if you've been stuck in it for over a decade. In this eye-opening episode, I'm sharing the framework that I wish I had before experiencing full-blown burnout in 2022. So many lessons learned in my 7-month recovery journey and the inspiration behind this episode! I break down the 10 different types of stress that can lead to burnout and the specific rest practices that can help prevent them. You'll discover why burnout doesn't happen overnight, how to recognize the warning signs in each stress category, and what rest practices actually work to counterbalance each type of stress. Based on the work of Nicola Jane Hobbs, I deep dive into physical, cognitive, emotional, social, environmental, sensory, creative, time, existential, and identity stress and provide tons of examples of how each one might be showing up in your life without you even realizing it. I hope this episode helps you identify which types of stress might be fueling your anxiety and gives you practical rest strategies to prevent burnout before it happens, especially if you're an anxious woman who tends to push through stress signals! This week I'm bringing you an incredible conversation with Sasha Hanway, a certified personal trainer, yoga teacher, breathwork and meditation coach, and holistic nutrition coach. As a former college athlete, Sasha has always loved movement, but it was a progressive strength approach combined with deep core work that truly transformed her body. She has built a program that blends mindfulness, strength, mobility and core work called Align. This is the exact workout plan I follow in the Ladder app I always talk about! In this episode, Sasha and I chat about why building muscle is critical for your mental health, the relationship between anxiety and exercise, how movement can be a tool for processing grief, the difference between the weight on the scale and your body composition, understanding protein intake requirements for optimal mental health, breaking free from restrictive mindsets, creating sustainable habits for long term success and developing a loving and trusting relationship with your body. Sasha also walks us through her Pyramid of Wellness, a framework I absolutely align with and it's exactly what I have been doing for years to maintain my anxiety free life. Your health journey isn't just a final result. It's an ongoing process. You are not the product of your health journey; your health journey is the product of you. When you learn how to fall in love with taking care of yourself, the benefits naturally follow. I hope this episode encourages you to reframe your approach to fitness, mental wellness, and self-love. This week I'm bringing you a special behind-the-scenes conversation with Jenna, the incredible nutritionist who works with me in my 4-Month Breaking Up With Anxiety Program! Ten years ago, I completely eliminated my anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and clinical depression without medication. What once felt impossible now feels... easy. I wake up feeling refreshed after a peaceful sleep, manage three jobs without burning out, and can even sit in complete silence without my mind racing. Most importantly, I can fully show up in my life without anxiety holding me back. In this raw and honest conversation, Jenna and I dive deep into what it really takes to break free from chronic anxiety. We share our personal experiences and insights gained from helping hundreds of women break free from anxiety's grip. We discuss why traditional "manage your symptoms" approaches often fall short and how addressing the root causes through gut health and hormone balance leads to lasting freedom from anxiety. I hope this episode shows you that freedom from anxiety is absolutely possible when you address the root causes and have the right support system in place. As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts! This week I am joined by another Breaking Up With Anxiety Program client... Ashley!! Ashley's struggles with anxiety seemed to come out of nowhere, leading to terrifying panic attacks during simple tasks like running errands at Walmart. Her body would go numb, she'd get extremely dizzy, and feel like she was about to pass out. Despite living what appeared to be a healthy lifestyle - working out regularly and eating clean - she found herself spiraling into an anxiety disorder and struggling with severe insomnia, eventually leading her to rely on a combination of medications including Ativan, sleeping pills, and escitalopram just to get through each day. She couldn't understand why this was happening to her when her life didn't seem particularly stressful and, as a former fitness competitor, she thought she had some really good habits. Through our work together, we discovered that despite her background in fitness competitions, her "healthy" diet wasn't providing all the nutrients her body needed. We made some targeted dietary adjustments and worked on optimizing her gut health and supporting her adrenals. Now, Ashley sleeps a full 8 hours every night without any medication, has completely overcome her panic attacks, and has developed a daily toolkit of specific habits that keep anxiety far away. Most importantly, breaking up with anxiety has allowed her to show up as the present, patient mother she always wanted to be for her little boy. I hope this episode gives you the hope and encouragement that freedom from anxiety is absolutely possible! As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Fresh off my holiday break, I'm sharing why the "New Year, New Me" pressure can be especially challenging for women dealing with anxiety, and how to align yourself with the seasons and work with your body's natural rhythms instead of against them. In this episode, we explore how to apply Traditional Chinese Medicine wisdom about winter to your life, why pushing yourself too hard in January can actually deplete your energy and make anxiety worse, the fascinating connection between kidney energy and anxiety, and the exact winter rituals myself and my clients are using right now to thrive during this season. I also get personal and share my own intention for 2025 (pre-conception!), what that means for me, and why I'm taking a totally different approach than mainstream medicine suggests. I hope this episode helps you feel more confident approaching your New Year goals in a way that actually supports your nervous system! As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Today we're diving deep into a topic that affects so many women with anxiety... travel anxiety. Fresh from my recent trip to Hawaii and preparing for Miami and Hilton Head, I'm sharing all the tools, tips and strategies for breaking up with 4 types of travel anxiety: routine disruption anxiety, logistics anxiety, physical symptoms and health anxiety, and flying anxiety. I also share my own journey with travel anxiety and how that has evolved over the years, from having to leave a Euro-trip early due to severe anxiety, to needing a lot of supplement support during my next trip, to now being able to travel freely with minimal anxiety management tools. Canadian Thanksgiving has come and gone, and with American Thanksgiving just around the corner, the holiday season is officially here! Christmas, New Year's—it's all coming up fast. In today's episode, I'm talking about how to keep your anxiety in check during this busy time of year! Every year, I get tons of questions from clients about how to stay on track with eating and lifestyle habits over the holidays. These habits have been working so well to keep their anxiety far away, but the busyness and lack of routine during this season can make it hard to stick to what's been working. If my clients are asking this every year, I'm guessing it's on your mind too! I hope this episode helps you feel more grounded and ready to enjoy the holidays, hopefully free from anxiety! Today, we're tackling a topic that impacts so many women: how to come off birth control without increasing anxiety. This episode is inspired by my own journey and the many questions I've been receiving. We'll cover questions like: Is the pill making my anxiety worse? Should you taper off birth control gradually like you would with SSRIs? Why do so many symptoms appear after stopping the pill? Is going on the pill a good idea for managing mood and anxiety, as some doctors suggest? And if you've recently stopped a progesterone-only pill to return to a natural cycle, how can you support your body while it adjusts? If you're considering transitioning off birth control or just want to understand how it can impact your mental health, this episode is for you! If you're interested in charting your cycle, check out Justisse: Chart Your Cycle. Today's episode is special because I'm doing things a bit differently and bringing on a friend who played a huge role in my journey to break free from anxiety, panic disorder, depression, and medication. Kelsi and I met when our lives looked very different. We were working at a bar and partying into the early hours nearly every night. Then, on June 6, 2013, Kelsi got sober after a life-changing experience in rehab—a turning point that deeply impacted me. About a year later, I hit my own rock bottom, and watching Kelsi transform her life helped me see that there was a way out of the cycle I was stuck in. In this episode, I'm taking you back to that messy 2011-2014 chapter of my life, when my anxiety, depression, and panic were at their peak, and I was using substances to cope. We talk about the “butterfly effect,” how one person's journey can set off ripples in another's, and how Kelsi's path toward sobriety inspired my own journey toward mental health and recovery. Today, Kelsi is a wife, a stepmom, and a business owner who helps women grow their brands online. She openly shares her story about mental health and recovery, and her DMs are always open to anyone re-evaluating their relationship with alcohol. This week on The Breaking Up With Anxiety® Podcast, it's another Ask Me Anything episode where I answer a great question from you—my amazing community! Specifically, about exercise and anxiety. The question is: "I hear you say you're a spin addict and you love spinning... is that a type of exercise you recommend for anxiety?" Short answer… no! In this episode, I explain why high-intensity exercises like spinning aren't ideal if you have anxiety, especially if you're dealing with hormonal imbalances or adrenal issues. Instead, I break down how to adjust your workouts based on the four phases of your menstrual cycle. We cover which exercises are most beneficial in each phase, how to avoid over-exercising, and why strength training might be a better option for long-term mental health. If you've ever wondered how to balance your workouts with your hormones and anxiety, this episode is for you. Plus, I share how I personally cycle-sync my own exercise routine! In this week's episode of The Breaking Up With Anxiety® Podcast, I'm joined by Todd, Co-Founder of Komusō! Todd helped develop the Shift, a breathing necklace designed to help reduce stress in situations like commuting, work meetings, traveling, falling asleep, overthinking, and social anxiety. I personally have the Classic Shift necklace in gold, and I absolutely love it. It's inspired by 17th-century Japanese monks who used a flute to find stillness. Before Komusō, Todd knew very little about wellness and unknowingly suffered from high-functioning anxiety. Learning about the science of breath completely transformed his daily life, from how he wakes up, eats, and drives, to how he interacts with others and sleeps. Now, Todd is dedicated to educating the world about how better breathing can be a life-changing habit. In this episode, Todd and I chat about how we both struggled with "traditional" meditation due to anxiety and found alternative ways to incorporate breathwork into our daily routines. Todd introduces the concept of preventative vs. rescue breathing, which changed my approach to breathwork, and shares his realization that anxiety isn't a personality trait—you can retrain your brain! And so much more! I loved this conversation, and I hope it gives you some powerful insights into how breathwork can be an effective tool for kicking anxiety to the curb. In this week's episode of The Breaking Up With Anxiety Podcast, I am joined by another Breaking Up With Anxiety Program client… Brittany! Brittany is a personal trainer whose struggles with anxiety began after experiencing a severe panic attack in an airport, which resulted in a trip to the emergency room. She ended up going on medication, even though she didn't want to, because she was barely functioning. She couldn't leave the house, run errands by herself, and didn't want to be left alone because of the panic attacks. She constantly felt like she might die at any moment. All she wanted was to feel like herself again. Through gut testing with her functional health doctor and bioresonance testing with me, we discovered she had several parasites and multiple bacterial imbalances that were keeping her stuck in her symptoms. Now that she's finished her detox protocol, Brittany's here to share her story about everything she did to break up with anxiety and finally feel like herself again! On today's episode of The Breaking Up With Anxiety™ Podcast, I'm excited to welcome back my therapist, Chantal Wade, who I have been working with since 2016! I invited Chantal back on the podcast because I wanted to provide a resource for anyone struggling with anxiety around food, emotional relationships with food, and disordered eating. I want to emphasize that I'm not qualified to work with anyone who has a current or history of disordered eating unless they are also working with a therapist at the same time as me. In this episode, Chantal and I delve into the two main camps of disordered eating: Camp One: The part of us that tries to control through shame, driven by fear of failure, rejection, and abandonment. This control gives us a false sense of safety. Camp Two: The part of us that numbs and distracts, using food to numb emotional pain. We discuss how disordered eating is not really about food, your body, or what others think of you—it's a symptom of unhealed emotional wounds. I hope this episode helps you, and as always, I would love to hear your thoughts! Send me a message on Instagram and let me know what you think of the episodes. I love connecting with you, and if there's a topic you'd like me to dive into, let me know! Connect with Chantal on Instagram or through her website! In this week's episode, I am joined by a client who went through my self-study Anxiety Relief Workshop Bundle—Kimberly! Kim is an elopement, destination wedding, and family photographer who had anxiety since she was little but wasn't diagnosed until later in life when she went through a huge life change after getting married and moving to a new city where she did not speak the language and didn't know anyone except her husband. Then, she had babies and decided to go on medication postpartum when she realized her kids were being affected by her struggles with her mental health. In this episode, Kim and I discuss how she used the workshop bundle to successfully come off 100mg of Zoloft, stabilize her thyroid health, and stop taking the beta blockers she was on for her racing heart. We talk about what she changed about her diet, the supplements she took, how she built resilience to face the stresses of life without falling into full-blown panic attacks, and how she lost 30 pounds by adjusting her exercise to her cycle! Your lifestyle is the biggest factor in whether you can be medication-free or not, and I hope Kim's story inspires you to do the work and take control of your mental health! Today we are joined on The Breaking Up With Anxiety™ Podcast by Jonathan Robinson, a psychotherapist and the author of "Ecstasy as Medicine: How MDMA Therapy Can Help You Overcome Trauma, Anxiety, and Depression and Feel More Love." My goal with this podcast is to explore a wide variety of anti-anxiety perspectives and tools from experts in their fields, offering you as many options as possible, so that you can find what works for you to permanently break up with your anxiety! And when I say "permanently break up with your anxiety," I'm not talking about those occasional anxious thoughts or feelings—maybe two to three times a year, which is normal. We're human, after all, and it's perfectly normal to experience a range of emotions. However, there's a significant difference between experiencing the occasional emotion of anxiety and living with an anxiety disorder. In this episode, Jonathan and I discuss how he uses Ecstasy-Assisted Therapy to help people with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and marriage counseling. He walks us through a typical MDMA therapy session, contraindications, who would be a good candidate for this kind of therapy, who would not be, methods for not believing your anxious thoughts, legal concerns, and so much more! Today's guests on The Breaking Up With Anxiety™ Podcast are Michaela Horvathova and Erinn O'Neill, the hosts of the 2 Sober Girls Podcast and the 2 Sober Girls Mastermind. As mothers, health coaches, and advocates, they share their journey of breaking up with alcohol to reclaim their lives. Michaela, alcohol-free by choice, and Erinn, sober through AA, both offer unique perspectives on sobriety and its transformative power. Sobriety, they believe, is the ultimate invitation to everything you want, and I couldn't agree more! In this episode, Michaela, Erinn, and I discuss how we have all used substances to cope with heavy feelings and anxiety, how alcohol limits us by affecting our relationships, friendships, and our sense of self. We dive into the positive impact sobriety has had on our personal and professional lives, how not drinking feels like gaining superpowers, the different phases of sobriety and the support needed for each, whether everyone needs AA, strategies for building a personalized sobriety toolkit, and so much more! Today's guest on The Breaking Up With Anxiety™ Podcast is Jasmin! She's a mom of three incredible humans, a Registered Nurse, and a Hormone Nutritionist, helping women balance their hormones so they can lose weight sustainably, regain energy, and 'fix' their periods. Jasmin understands the frustrations many women face when told by their doctors that there's ‘not much' that can be done about their symptoms - hearing things like, "It's your age, It's in your genes, This is just what happens, Everything looks good on paper." With over 17 years of experience in the healthcare space, Jasmin is here to challenge that narrative and help women take their power back, finding natural solutions as they learn to replenish their bodies and balance their hormones to feel their best. In this episode, Jasmin and I discuss the lack of education around women's health and hormones, the necessity for women to truly understand their bodies and take control of their health, the limitations of bloodwork from medical doctors, how to make sustainable changes in health habits, the importance of supporting liver health for effective hormone balance, how sluggish detox pathways, thyroid health, adrenal function, and inflammation contribute to low energy levels in women, and also explore understanding the underlying causes of symptoms rather than simply suppressing them, simplifying meal prep, building balanced meals, and so much more! In this week's episode, I am joined by another amazing client - Alex! Alex first started to experience anxiety in high school, and as it was left untreated, it progressively worsened until they decided to go on medication in university. Initially, the medication helped them to feel more in control, until 2020, which was, of course, very stressful for many people. At this point, Alex was in the last year of their undergrad, about to start their master's. Not only did the anxiety and irrational thoughts worsen despite being on medication, journaling, and working with a naturopath, but a lot of gut issues also started to present themselves, like nausea, IBS-D, SIBO, and insomnia. Alex was just about to start working as a therapist and, as they put it, they had three options: increase the medication, change the medication, or figure out a different solution. The different solution was working with me, learning how to support their body optimally through a customized dietary plan, customized supplements, supporting drainage pathways, addressing SIBO and parasites, and so much more that we discuss in this episode! I'm so excited for you to hear this conversation, and I hope it inspires you to decide that it's time to dive in, do the work, and take control of your mental health. – – Get my free Three Secrets to Natural Anxiety Banishment webinar training here: https://courses.taygendron.com/3secrets Join my Breaking Up With Anxiety™ The Group Coaching Program here: https://www.taygendron.com/breaking-up-with-anxiety Let's hang out on Instagram! @tay.gendron Website: www.taygendron.com – – If you'd like to submit a question for future episodes, fill out this form https://bit.ly/ask-tay-anything in as much detail as possible. Joining us today is Jenna Justinich, a Certified Nutritional Practitioner, Professional Makeup Artist, Yoga & Meditation Teacher, Herbal Medicine Plant Witch, Breaking Up With Anxiety™ Community Manager, and Mama to a beautiful girl. In this episode, recorded during a call in the private Breaking Up With Anxiety™ Client Facebook group, Jenna and I discuss the importance of mothers prioritizing their mental and physical health, as they are the barometer of the household. When mothers enter a state of dysregulation and neglect self-care, it directly impacts their children's nervous systems, behaviors, and emotional connections. This neglect can lead to frequent meltdowns in children and influence the mother's relationship with her partner, creating either a positive or negative cycle in family dynamics. Tune in to learn how mothers can take steps towards prioritizing self-care, what that realistically looks like for mothers, working through 'mom guilt', what to eat to feel nourished and grounded, the challenges and rewards of instilling healthy habits in children, how to create morning routines as a mother, and so much more! Joining us today is Elisa Kurylowicz, a body-positive, high-performance coach known for her killer instincts, big heart, strong mind, and hilarious sense of humor. She came on the Breaking Up With Anxiety™ podcast to share with us about a life-changing practice called Intuitive Awareness. After missing out on the Olympics, Elisa lost her sense of purpose. She found herself in a downward spiral: drinking alcohol daily, smoking cigarettes, overeating, gaining 85 lbs in one year, marrying an abusive man, making poor health choices, and accumulating so much debt that she couldn't afford food. She despised her body and her life… until she discovered Intuitive Awareness. This powerful practice led to her getting a divorce, losing 85 pounds, paying off all her debt, achieving financial success, eliminating toxicity from her life, and most importantly, learning to love herself unconditionally. In this episode, Elisa and I dive into why we often don't change even when we want to, the importance of being coachable, what discipline truly means, the art of focusing on what we pay attention to, how failure fosters resilience and emotional regulation, the belief systems we are indoctrinated with, the 5 steps to overcome self-sabotage, and so much more! So many concerned parents reach out to me, not because they have anxiety, but because their children or teenagers do. Although I definitely have an understanding of what might be happening, as I work with a lot of adults who have had anxiety since they were young or for as long as they can remember, I do not have the capacity at this time to expand my practice to working with children and teenagers. So, I really wanted to have a resource I could direct all these concerned parents to! Today's guest, Dr. Cayley, is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor with a special passion for Pediatrics and supporting the whole family in achieving optimal health through addressing the root cause of symptoms. Her therapeutic approach is integrative and utilizes evidence-based methods, as she has training in both conventional and natural medicine modalities. As a mama herself to two little ones, she brings experience both as a professionally trained medical provider and a loving parent who's raising young ones right alongside you! In this episode, Dr. Cayley and I discuss how environmental stressors, genetics, nutritional deficiencies, and gut health all play a role in childhood anxiety. We explore the challenges of raising children in a modern world that is not supportive of healthy habits, push back against the idea that anxiety can only be managed and not eliminated, providing recommendations for supporting optimal development during pregnancy, strategies for overcoming picky eating, and of course, I had to ask about ideal protein intake for kids. In this week's episode, I am joined by another amazing Breaking Up With Anxiety™ Coaching Program client - Annika! Annika's anxiety and daily panic attacks were significantly affecting her nursing career. Her doctor advised her that medication was pretty much her only option, with no guarantee of relief, and anxiety was something she would probably have to live with her whole life. Unfortunately, this bleak prognosis reflects a common perspective in the medical community. Many people don't realize that healthcare is highly specialized. Your doctor, in fact, doesn't know everything. They typically focus on treating specific symptoms or conditions within their area of expertise, prioritizing pharmacological solutions because that is what they have been trained to do. Holistic or lifestyle-based approaches to mental health struggles are not in their wheelhouse. But here, in Breaking Up With Anxiety™ land, we take a different approach! Annika refused to accept what her doctor told her. She stumbled upon my ByeBye Anxiety Workshop Bundle, previously known as the Starter Pack, and applied its principles, resulting in a dramatic reduction in her panic attacks! She was blown away and decided to join the Breaking Up With Anxiety™ Group coaching program to see what else was possible. I'm so excited for you to hear this conversation, and I hope it inspires you to decide that it's time to dive in, do the work and take control of your mental health. Today we are talking all about postpartum anxiety with Dr. Jenna who, as a mom of 3, understands the whirlwind that is postpartum and motherhood. With every pregnancy, not only has a baby been born, but so has a mother. This time called Matrescence (the process of becoming a mother) is a time of massive physical, mental and spiritual change. Despite how the current care of mothers is set up, healing does not end at 6 weeks postpartum. The mother needs just as much care as the baby (if not more) during those initial months. This is exactly where Dr. Jenna's passion lies, helping women recover and thrive during such an overwhelming time of life. Postpartum depression and anxiety can occur beyond the first six weeks after giving birth, often peaking at around 6 to 9 months. It is important to be aware of this and recognize that these feelings are not a reflection of your abilities as a mother. Instead, this is influenced by hormonal changes, increased stress levels, nutrient deficiencies, blood sugar dysregulation, the demands of pregnancy and breastfeeding on the body, and the lack of support for new moms. All of which is not a reflection of a mother's ability to cope, but rather a physiological response that can be addressed with proper support. Which is exactly what we cover in today's episode! Welcome back to Part 5 of the "Real Root Causes of Anxiety" series! If you haven't checked out the previous parts, I highly recommend starting with episodes 11, 15, 19, and 23, where I walk you through all the deep-rooted causative factors contributing to an anxiety disorder and what it will truly take to break up with your anxiety for good! Today marks the final episode in this podcast mini-series where we will be covering the last of the root causes: STRESS. But stress, as you will come to learn, is not just mental and emotional. Stress wears many disguises and affects our bodies on a physical level, often resulting in the symptoms of anxiety. It's been 130 days since I decided to remove alcohol from my life. I had been thinking about it for a while and although I no longer have a “problem” with it, it wasn't serving me physically, mentally or spiritually. I actually felt like it was holding me back from all that I could do and be. I also grew up watching somebody I love very much struggle with alcohol and because of that a part of me always knew I didn't want alcohol in my life, even just casually. If you're starting to evaluate your relationship with alcohol or there's someone in your life that you would like to learn more about how you could support them, this episode is for you! Today, I am joined by my amazing colleague Dr. Arianna, a trauma-informed functional health consultant with a specialization in depression, anxiety, and substance use disorder, who shares her inspiring journey of substance abuse and recovery. Arianna and I talk about our personal experiences with substance abuse, the impact of alcohol on gut and mental health, our thoughts on moderate alcohol consumption, overcoming fear of judgment, the hard decisions we have had to make to heal, trusting yourself, letting go of regret, the philosophy behind intuitive sobriety, microdosing, emotional regulation strategies to process and move past any lingering hurt or trauma, practical tools and suggestions for leading a healthier, substance-free life and so much more! Warning: This episode discusses topics surrounding suicide, substance abuse, drugsand alcohol. Lauren spent almost her whole life in denial that she had anxiety. She was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 26 years old, and this diagnosis became the catalyst for change in the rest of her life. She turned her pain into purpose, transitioning from a career in finance to becoming a holistic nutritionist and a master mindset coach with a specialization in breast cancer. As Lauren embarked on her personal healing journey, addressing both physical and mental health, she found herself drawn to plant medicines like psilocybin mushrooms and ayahuasca, which became instrumental in overcoming her own mental health struggles. Today, she leads women's mushroom retreats and is a certified plant medicine integration coach. In this episode, Lauren and I chat about her realization of living with anxiety for years, her journey of recovering from breast cancer, the profound impact of ayahuasca and plant medicine, recognizing and shifting unconscious patterns, the concept of our bodies keeping score, somatic work, the power of therapy, dissociation, mindfulness practices, listening to our bodies, building a solid foundation for change, and the importance of supporting the physical body when dealing with an anxiety disorder. We also discuss the importance of emotional and mental support in the healing process. In this episode I chat about caffeine, a big decision I made in my personal life, my nutrition practice, what I had to do to eliminate my anxiety disorder even when money was super tight, how restricting calories is terrible for your hormones and anxiety, what to do about your loosey goosey boundaries, and so much more! Some people just have a highly sensitive nervous system and it doesn't help that our world is one that is designed to constantly pull us into a sympathetic (fight or flight) state. In today's episode, I asked my amazing colleague, Dr. Kayla Clarke to shed some light on how we can align our body and mind with the demands of this fast-paced world, even when anxiety tries to throw us off track. Kayla shares her personal journey of navigating anxiety, starting from a young age when she was diagnosed with OCD, panic disorder, and agoraphobia. She opens up about the process of de-conditioning the labels that were placed upon her and discovering her own truth beyond those diagnoses. As an empath and highly sensitive person, Kayla has learned to feel things deeply and embrace the energy that moves through her body. She challenges the notion that anxiety is something to be fixed or controlled, but rather an energy that can be acknowledged and allowed to flow through us. Which I love - obviously!!! It's time to embrace all of who we are, honour our sensitivity, and find that sweet spot of resilience in the face of anxiety. This episode is for all the mamas in my community! Today, I welcome back the amazing April Mather (featured in episode 5) to share a treasure trove of tips, tools, and advice to help moms navigate the delicate balance between nurturing their family and caring for themselves. April, a relationship and manifestation coach, and single mom, shares her own journey of realizing the importance of putting herself first. Looking back, April is amazed by how much motherhood changed the way she cared about herself. She was a nutritionist and yoga teacher prior to giving birth. Yet, the second her daughter was born, as a new mother, she had convinced herself that she no longer had time to prioritize herself. Tune into today's episode to discover how neglecting her own needs led to her feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and eventually landing in burnout. This ultimately “forcing” her to embrace prioritizing her own health in order to be the best parent and individual she could be. In this week's episode, I am joined by another amazing client - Jess Haney! You may recognize her as my co-host from the Just Winging It Podcast, a podcast for entrepreneurs with anxiety and big freakin' dreams. Our paths crossed when we did a services exchange in 2021, and Jess took part in the Breaking Up With Anxiety™ Coaching Program. In this episode, Jess shares her personal journey of how anxiety impacted her life and the challenges she faced because of it. From dealing with those pesky physical symptoms to battling panic attacks and even grappling with a fear of death, she shares how anxiety kept her feeling stuck and playing small in her career. I know her story will resonate with so many of you and if you're someone who thinks what I do won't work for you, you will very much relate to Jess's story. We have a good laugh about it now, but at the time, she really thought she was going to take the program and that it wasn't going to work for her… which, of course, it did! Tune into the episode to discover the tools and practices that have played a pivotal role in Jess's journey to anxiety freedom. It's time for you to break free from anxiety and chase those dreams!
