Welcome to this week's episode of Thyroid Strong where Melissa Ramos, founder of Sexy Food Therapy and creator of the Sexy Lady Balls program and community, shares her approach and insight to parasitic infections, how we contract them, how to test for them, and ultimately how to treat them long-term. Key Takeaways Parasitic infections are difficult to detect, and the symptoms can overlap with many other conditions including autoimmune diseases. Many of us Hashimoto's ladies have often been diagnosed with a parasitic infection as a root cause of our autoimmune condition. But if you haven't been diagnosed, listen in on how to get diagnosed, because more conventional medicine doctors will not check for parasites. They directly correlate with our thyroid hormone levels and can cause a variety of digestional issues. Today, Melissa Ramos is giving us the rundown on why they are so underdiagnosed along with what to do first when treating them long-term. About Melissa Ramos Melissa Ramos is the founder of Sexy Food Therapy and creator of the Sexy Lady Balls program and community. She is also a nutritionist with a background in Chinese medicine, a health expert on CTV's The Social, an official health writer for the Huffington Post, and a TEDx Speaker. She is known as the hormone and poop whisperer to help women get their hormones and digestion in check. Where Do Parasites Come From and Why Are They So Underdiagnosed Parasitic infections are derived from a multitude of sources. Towels we share with our partner or roommate, swimming in the lake, drinking the same beverage, etc. Parasites do not discriminate between healthy and unhealthy people. To get tested for parasites can be difficult due to a lack of education around parasitic infections and what is considered a “normal range” in lab work. Parasite Behaviors and How To Treat Them Long-Term Parasites are stealthy creatures. They hide behind a mask (aka biofilm) to go undetectable, which is why there are several tests to undergo, some even out of the country. Parasites absorb all of the toxins in the body and burrow into your organs. To treat them, the body's natural drainage pathways have to be open to flush them out. Flushing agents can include colonics or coffee enemas, as Melissa Ramos explains in great detail. In This Episode How people can contract a parasite and why it is so underdiagnosed [1:02] Where parasites live in the body [4:48] Parasite behavior and the body's reaction to it [5:52] How parasites are opportunistic with mold and heavy metals [8:18] Lack of education for doctors running lab work to test for parasites [9:45] How to treat a parasitic infection, what to do first [11:26] Colonics and coffee enemas [12:41] Stool testing to identify parasites [15:09] Coffee enemas, what you can add to them, and how you can manipulate them [19:06] Bile flow and its importance in eliminating toxins [22:59] Treating your partner for parasites and why [26:12] Where you can contract parasites [27:02] Lymphatic system and drainage pathways [31:56] Balancing your water intake with minerals for full hydration [33:06] Quotes “I think that people just believe that you're healthy, you don't have them. That's not the case, you can get parasites when you're living with other people in your household.” [1:17] “And I think that any good practitioner is going to play detective and try to understand all the clues that we can find out.” [4:05] “There's something to be said about living and enjoying your life and not being super regimented.”[27:19] DISCLAIMER THIS PODCAST/WEBSITE/COACHING SERVICE DOES NOT PROVIDE MEDICAL ADVICE. I’m so excited for you to hear my conversation with Melissa Ramos, the founder of Sexy Food Therapy. Melissa and I had a fantastic conversation about her healing journey through ovarian cysts, very heavy periods, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, thyroid nodules and fibroids. And of course, we talked about her first period. She is a very inspiring woman!Melissa talked about her first period and reflected on how she felt not knowing what was happening to her. She says that from the beginning, her periods were so heavy that she would need to plan her schedule based on proximity to a washroom in order to avoid accidents.Melissa shares the journey she took to understand what was happening to her - going from practitioner to practitioner to try to address her symptoms. She says that thinking back, none of the practitioners ran any testing on her - a lot of guessing and protocols and no testing. We talked about the impact of unresolved emotional trauma on healing. Melissa says that we need make sure we value the trauma work as much as we value supplements, self-parenting, sleep and eating good food.Melissa says small things such as going to bed earlier can really make a difference. She says that when we’re sleep deprived, we’re not always going to want to eat well or think positively. She says to never trust your thoughts on a tired brain. Our panel convenes to discuss the creedal phrase “crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.” We reflect on Jesus’ betrayal by Judas and numerous other things. Dr. Gupta recommends a song.
Jesus not only suffers—he also dies. Why does he have to die, though? Why would God allow his only Son to be tortured and abused in such a way? Dr. Melissa Ramos takes us on a journey into God’s love, as strong as death…
Dr. Melissa Ramos is back with yet another unique cast of THEO panelists to discuss Jesus. Why did Jesus not show off his powers more clearly, and make his identity known in a different way? Are we in danger of over-emphasizing or under-emphasizing either Jesus’s divinity or humanity? How should we pray?
Having professed belief in Jesus Christ, the Creed now asks us to affirm Jesus’s status as “his (God’s) only Son.” What does this mean? In this lecture, Dr. Melissa Ramos asks us to consider two dimensions of Jesus’s status: temptation and transfiguration.
For this week’s panel discussion, we’re taking another shot at understanding the Creedal phrase “in God.” The panel attempts to take on some particularly hard questions about how God handles situations where people have dementia or other impairments that would seem to make active “belief in God” hard or impossible, as well as whether it might be the case that there are some things God simply doesn’t want us to know.
Dr. Melissa Ramos is back to field questions from her Monday lecture on the Creedal phrase "in God.” She’s joined by Pastor Renji Abraham (from Village Church in Beaverton, OR), Dr. Nijay Gupta, and Dr. Brian Doak. We tackle questions about “General” vs. “Specific” revelation, what it means to be made “in the image of God,” and a strange moment in the book of Genesis. (NOTE: Apologies for the recording problem with Dr. Gupta’s microphone—if you turn the volume up very loud when’s talking, you can still hear him!)
Today we’re hearing from Dr. Melissa Ramos (PhD, UCLA) on the Creedal phrase “in God.” Is God just whatever we want God to be? A totally subjective experience we have? Or something more concrete and specific? Does God have a name? And how do we know we’re experiencing “God”?

This season of the podcast would not be complete without looking at the health risks associated with burnout. So I brought on my very good friend, Melissa Ramos, to share with us her expertise in health, nutrition and lifestyle. ...but that’s not all we talk about. Grab your headphones and a hearty glass of wine as you sit in on this hilarious conversation between two great friends! In this episode, you’ll hear us talk about why the topic of burnout is so important to Melissa, the warnings signs to look for in your own life, and what her own practice of self-care looks like (sadly, it’s NOT watching Netflix)! Melissa also explains why the common solution of self-care is the WRONG one, and what the better choice is. She debunks the myth around “consistency”, explaining why it’s total BS, and shares her approach to nutrition. You’ll hear why “soft strength” as an entrepreneur is so important, and why we should embrace it, especially for the female listeners. And finally, one of my biggest takeaways was understanding our relationship to and rejection of weakness.. As a trigger for most people, this was an eye-opening topic you won’t want to miss! Grace & Grit Podcast: Helping Women Everywhere Live Happier, Healthier and More Fit Lives
The Grace & Grit podcast is dedicated to helping women expand their definition of health because deep health isn’t a look, deep health is a way of being that extends far beyond the narrow conversation of just food and exercise. Sure, as women, we all want to look good, but we also want to FEEL good and, most of all, we want to be happy. And finding our happy isn’t about adding MORE “to do’s” to our life. Often finding our happy is about being true to ourselves, granting ourselves permission to slow the heck down and honoring the things our body, mind, and soul are telling us. Finding our happy also has a lot to do with hormonal balance. And my guest today, Melissa Ramos, has made art of helping women to do all of those things. I have been following Melissa for years, and I have witnessed her message of hormonal and digestive health spread like wildfire… as it well should. She shares great information with humor AND she walks her talk. Melissa Ramos is a nutritionist with a background in Chinese medicine and the founder of sexyfoodtherapy.com, where she helps women heal their hormones and digestion for healthy ovaries (and poops). If you struggle with PMS, difficult periods, fibroids, endometriosis, menopausal symptoms, or digestive health issues do not miss this episode! I am talking poop with Melissa Ramos! Melissa is a Nutritionist focusing on Chinese Nutrition Therapy and owner of Sexy Food Therapy Inc. She helps people feel sexy from the inside out with a focus on digestion and hormone imbalances. Melissa's journey began when she got sick. She started to see a nutritionist and discovered she had digestive issues. Melissa went and studied nutrition and from there, she studied Chinese Medicine right afterward. She began a blog basically just for fun. In the beginning, she was blogging about how she emotionally ate the right way and was documenting a lot of dating stories. To her surprise, a bunch of people started reading it and the business focus changed. A lot of it changed based on her personal struggle with digestion and a near death experience that she discusses in the interview. The Poop Whisperer People get nervous about talking openly about poop. They will go to an entirely different floor of an office building to poop just so that no one knows they are going. Talking poop is important as it can tell a lot about your health. As you get older your digestion declines. 70% of women will get fibroids by the age of 50. So what do YOU need to know about your poop? What should you be looking for? (And according to Melissa, yes, you should be looking) * Frequency * Shape * Pellet poop * Loose Poop * Color * How many wipes * Proper bowel elimination Don't poop enough? Melissa gives us some great tips in the interview on what we can do to increase the frequency and improve our bowel movements. Happy Pooping!
