How does one become a missionary without ever leaving the country or even leaving town? Brandon Bell might be wondering the same thing as he finds himself back in the town where he went to college to become a coach and teacher. In this conversation we talk about Brandon's journey of discipleship, how he got into ministry, his take on campus ministry as an opportunity to be a missionary, his passion for training students and young adults for mission, and his new book. Brandon is the Director of Campus Missions with the Christian Campus Community and also preaches with the Preaching Team at Singing Oaks Church in Denton, TX. He loves sharing the Gospel in real and relatable ways with young adults from various cultures. Brandon also enjoys preaching, travel, mission trips, and adventure sports. His favorite adventure is being married to his best friend and raising their amazing daughters together. His mission in life can be summed up by 1 Corinthians 9:22 “I have become all things to all people, so that I may by all means save some.”  Brandon just published his 1st book, Trailhead: Beginning Your Journey with God. This book resulted from many years of guiding teenagers and young adults on a path to finding God and finding purpose. Brandon received his call to youth ministry after teaching and coaching. From there he answered God's missionary call to what he believes is the most important and influential mission field in the U.S., the university campus. Their campus ministry serves students from UNT, TWU, & NCTC and they have recently launched a residency program called Campus Missions Training. He desires to see more people and churches support and engage in campus missions.  Connect with Brandon via email (bbell@singingoaks.org or trailheadbook@gmail.com), on Facebook (@brandonbell), and through Instagram and YouTube (@brandon_bellringer). Connect with the Christian Campus Community via Instagram (@cccdenton) or find them on the web at www.christiancampuscommunity.org. For 50 years, the Endangered Species Act has protected America's imperiled plants and animals. Mark Madison, Historian for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, shares about the history of the Endangered Species Act during its 50th Anniversary year. All Americans can take pride in the fact that, under the ESA, the California condor, grizzly bear, Okaloosa darter, whooping crane, and black-footed ferret have all been brought back from the brink of extinction. It has helped to create a better understanding of how human activities can impact the environment and how we can work together to protect it. We can also celebrate that many other species no longer need ESA protection and have been removed from the list of endangered and threatened species, including the bald eagle—the very symbol of our nation's strength.

When walking the trails at the NCTC, you are surrounded by beautiful trees. Have you thought about what kind of tree they are or how they fit in biodiversity? Or why the younger trees were planted in that spot? The NCTC Land Management team takes great thought into where new trees will be planted and why. Mike McAllister talks with Casey Johnson, an Ecologist at NCTC, about tree planting and gives advice on planting your own native trees!

Pollinator gardens can be a beautiful, natural addition to our landscapes! But do you know why they are so important? Using native species to create a robust habitat, we can give pollinators their three basic needs: food, water, and shelter. By doing so, we can help create a virtual highway that gives pollinators rest stops! In this episode of the Sustainability series, Mike McAllister talks with Casey Johnson, an Ecologist at NCTC, about the importance of pollinator gardens and how you can create one, even on your deck or patio!

Playing on the interest already garnered by David Weissman & Bill Weber's The Cockettes documentary released in 2002, interest in this troupe was reawakened and entertained an entirely new & appreciative audience. Borrelli, who joined the podcast from his boat moored in Martha's Vineyard, also provided a few updates on the organization's major, new initiatives, including a "Connectivity Exchange" and a plan to offer mobile options to the NCTC membership by the fourth quarter of 2022. This year's show, which returned as an in-person event after 2021's all-digital confab, was marked by "pent up energy, for wanting to reconnect," Borrelli recalled. "The Independent Show is really the last standing old school cable show. It's the only one that combines programming and technology, just like the good ol' days. And it had that feel to it." And what about that name change? "I think a lot of people felt like it was overdue," Borrelli said. "I haven't had any negative feedback about the name. I think the fact that we kept the acronym the same, to me, was important." Borrelli said the NCTC is on track to have multiple mobile options available to its membership of 700-plus operators. "The deal that we're contemplating is flexible. From the members' perspective, they can choose how much or how little they want to actually take on for themselves," he said.
