Ben Shapiro aired his own criticism, calling out JD Vance for getting embarrassed by Iran and saying he has never seen a weaker Republican performance. Hawk also plays a clip of Mark Thiessen, a former George W. Bush speechwriter and one of the most consistent Trump boosters at the Washington Post and on Fox News, breaking from his pattern of unconditional praise to call the Iran deal a disaster. Hawk walks through a list of Thiessen's previous columns dating back to March, each one predicting or celebrating Trump's imminent victory in Iran, as context for how significant it is to hear Thiessen criticize the deal at all. Hawk covers the financial terms of the agreement, including the release of roughly $100 billion in previously frozen Iranian assets that is already underway, on top of a $300 billion reconstruction fund. He also references the deal's language committing the United States to lifting all sanctions on Iran, including on oil sales, and contrasts the entire outcome with what the Obama-era JCPOA accomplished without a war or a closed Strait of Hormuz. President Trump's new U.S.–Iran agreement may be the biggest foreign policy shakeup of his presidency. The deal reportedly ends military operations, reopens the Strait of Hormuz, gives Iran sanctions relief, unlocks frozen funds, and starts a 60-day path toward a final nuclear agreement. But the real explosion may be coming from Israel and Washington, D.C. Tonight on Investigate Earth Podcast, we break down why Israel is furious, why JD Vance is warning Israeli critics not to fight Trump, why Congress may become the battlefield, and whether this moment signals a real return to America First foreign policy. Is MAGA back, or is this just another deal that gives Iran too much while the pro-Israel lobby prepares to shut it down?Check out our merch store

The Memorandum of Understanding, which was released today, says that Iran would be provided with $300 billion for its reconstruction and economic development. The memorandum also says that Iran will maintain the current status quo of its nuclear program – which was the main reason why the U.S. went to war with Iran in the first place. Later, Nicolle discusses the news that Trump has cancelled the scheduled nomination hearing of Jay Claton as DNI in a bid to force Congress to act on his voter ID bill, which currently does not have the votes to pass. This isn't about drugs. It isn't about fentanyl. And it's not even about war. This episode breaks down the real strategy unfolding in Venezuela—and why oil, leverage, and sanctions enforcement are reshaping the global balance of power. Venezuela holds the largest proven oil reserves on Earth—worth over $17 trillion. The United States doesn't need that oil to survive… but China does. And that's the point. As Trump enforces sanctions, tightens the blockade, and cuts China off from Venezuelan, Iranian, and Russian crude, the pressure is mounting. Political prisoners are being released. Oil revenue has collapsed. And the petrodollar—long dependent on Saudi Arabia—may be getting a brand-new source. This isn't invasion. It's leverage. And it may be the most ambitious energy strategy ever attempted.

Today, Martha, Les, Morgan, and Jess discuss the snapback of sanctions on Iran, nearly a decade after the JCPOA was signed. Despite Russian and Iranian attempts to block the move, pre-deal sanctions have been restored with support from Germany, France, and the UK. Tehran denounced the action as illegal and recalled its ambassadors, even as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian sought to downplay the impact. Washington and the EU piled on with additional sanctions, raising the question: will renewed pressure shift Tehran's behavior, or are we back where we were in 2015?If U.S. strikes on Iran's nuclear program were truly successful, why are sanctions still needed? And while sanctions have, at times, seemed to slow Iran's nuclear ambitions, they haven't stopped Tehran outright. What's the broader strategy here? Can sanctions be more than a stopgap measure or will Iran's nuclear program and alignment with Russia continue to advance despite international pressure?Check out these sources which informed our experts' opinions: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/crme84w3n23o @marthamillerdc@morganlroach@NotTVJessJones@lestermunsonLike what we're doing here? Deep Dive into SCG Plastics' $20 Million Settlement with OFAC to Resolve Violations of Iran Sanctions Program

OFAC is capable of extending a long arm of enforcement, reaching sometimes non-U.S. companies that may "cause" another company to violate U.S. Sanctions laws. If you need to find an example of this long reach, look no further than OFAC's recent settlement with SCG Plastics ("SCG"). In this settlement, SCG, a Thai company that sells plastic resins, agreed to pay $20 million for violations of the Iran Sanctions Program. In this episode, Michael Volkov explores the series of actions that led to that $20 million dollar settlement, and the consequences. In a recent enforcement action, SCG Plastics paid OFAC $20 million to resolve violations of the Iran sanctions program, showcasing OFAC's far-reaching jurisdiction.SCG Plastics caused U.S. financial institutions to process $291 million in wire transfer sales of High-Density Polyethylene Resin (HDPE) of Iranian origin from 2017 to 2018, which violated the Iran sanctions program.SCG Plastics voluntarily disclosed 10 violations but did not disclose 457, which led to OFAC determining all 467 violations as egregious. The size of the settlement was due to multiple aggravating factors: SCG Plastics willingly engaged in a multi-year pattern of conduct designed to circumvent the Iran sanctions program, causing significant harm to OFAC sanction policy objectives while earning substantial revenues.Importantly, commercial activity that may fall outside the jurisdiction of OFAC sanctions can still result in a violation when the financial transactions related to the activity are processed through or involve U.S. financial institutions.OFAC emphasized the risks for non-U.S. companies engaging in conduct that causes U.S. persons to violate sanctions, in this case processing the transactions, which would not have been done with adequate disclosure, highlighting the importance of compliance with U.S. sanctions and export control laws.ResourcesMichael Volkov on LinkedIn | TwitterThe Volkov Law Group

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen admitted over the weekend that US sanctions on Iran are not "changing behavior" of the government in Tehran, but vowed to strengthen the measures anyway. Sanctions don't work? Sanction harder! Also today: US staying in Syria regardless of escalation. And...why were the cops egging Jan 6th protesters to go into the Capitol?
