Welcome to The Science of Storytelling, the podcast that explores the most unique and engaging content collaborations between publishers and advertisers.  This week on the show, we're chatting with Mike Rothman, CEO and Co-Founder of Fatherly. Mike has been the face behind Fatherly for over six years. He created the publication as a way of addressing the deficit that he saw in helpful content for dads in the digital age.  Last year, Fatherly partnered with Chrysler Pacifica for “The Family Car” campaign. The goal of the partnership was to take an out-of-the-box approach to buying a vehicle for your family by creating both practical (car seat safety tips) and tongue-in-cheek (looks dads give in the rear-view mirror) content. Eighty-one percent of Fatherly's readers with a child between the ages of zero and two had bought a car in the last year, which Mike says made the publication a perfect fit for the brand's goal of illustrating their family-friendly functionality. We spoke to Mike about how Fatherly came to be, their partnership with Chrysler and the importance of publishing content created by parents, for parents.   You can also read our latest post about this podcast here: https://www.pressboardmedia.com/top-50-fatherly-chrysler/  This podcast is brought to you by Pressboard: Connecting the World Through Stories. Welcome to The Science of Storytelling, the podcast that explores the most unique and engaging content collaborations between publishers and advertisers.  This week on the show, we're chatting with two guests: Nina Van Brunt and Nick Heitz. Nina is the Executive Producer & Creative Director of Mic's Brand Newsroom, which she helped build from the ground up, and Nick is their Vice President of National Sales.  Last year, Mic partnered with Dove to help them further their message that beauty should be for everyone. Working together, the two discovered a series of inspiring and unique stories of how women are challenging today's narrow beauty stereotypes. One piece, titled “Mastectomy Scars,” told the story of a woman who had a double mastectomy. The emotional and uplifting collaboration shows how a thought-provoking story can change people's minds — about a brand, a disease and about how we see beauty altogether.  We talked to Nina and Nick about how their campaign with Dove came together, why every content company should build a brand newsroom and whether Jerrid is allowed to call himself a millennial.  You can also read our latest post about this podcast here: https://www.pressboardmedia.com/top-50-mic-dove/  This podcast is brought to you by Pressboard: Connecting the world through stories. Welcome to The Science of Storytelling, the podcast that explores the most unique and engaging content collaborations between publishers and advertisers.  Today on the show, we're speaking with Tom Stern, Director of Sales for Gothamist. According to Tom, Gothamist presents the day's news in a “tongue-in-cheek and shirt-untucked fashion,” which has made it a go-to source of information for New Yorkers – or anyone who wants to be a New Yorker.  Last year, the site collaborated with Blue Apron to promote their Whole30 meals. While New Yorkers are infamous for never using their kitchens, the content emphasized how easy it can be to make meals at home if you can skip a few steps like meal planning and grocery shopping. No more spending an hour waiting in line at Trader Joe's.  Tom shared with us the secret sauce that makes Gothamist successful, including how sharing stories like why Cynthia Nixon's bagel order is so controversial helps them build an intimate connection with readers.   You can also read our latest post about this podcast here: https://www.pressboardmedia.com/top-50-gothamist-blue-apron/  This podcast is brought to you by Pressboard: Connecting the World Through Stories. Welcome to The Science of Storytelling, the podcast that explores the most unique and engaging content collaborations between publishers and advertisers.  This week on the show, we're chatting with Chris Sweigart, Creative Director for USA TODAY's in-house branded content studio, GET Creative. When Chris started his career as a reporter at a television station in Atlanta, he never thought that 10 years later, he'd find himself on a farm in India interviewing a turmeric farmer for a national supplement brand. But that's exactly what happened in USA Today's latest campaign with Nature's Way.   Chris has worked on both the editorial and branded content teams at USA Today producing video content for their digital platforms, so he has a unique take on how brands can use journalistic practices to tell incredible stories.  We talked to Chris about taking Nature's Way back to their roots, why you shouldn't start a campaign with a "VR strategy" and how Indiana Jones inspired his career.  You can also read our latest post about this podcast here: https://www.pressboardmedia.com/top-50-usa-today-natures-way/  This podcast is brought to you by Pressboard: Connecting the world through stories.
