My newsletter: https://thelongstory.substack.com/ The Dispatch was launched in 2020 with a pretty straightforward thesis: that people would pay for quality, fact-based journalism. It certainly had a partisan lean – it was co-founded by conservative journalists Jonah Goldberg and Steve Hayes after all – but it steered clear of the wholesale rejection of reality that's rampant in most pro-Trump media. Flash forward to 2025, and that thesis has been vindicated. It recently crossed 45,000 paid subscribers without the help of huge VC investors. Now, it plans to diversify its revenue streams, and to accomplish that it brought on Mike Rothman, a longtime media veteran who helped build companies like Thrillist and Fatherly. In a recent interview, Mike walked through his decision to join The Dispatch, what kind of advertising he wants to sell, and why brands are suddenly interested again in sponsoring politics media.
This episode originally aired on August 11, 2021.You've probably heard the proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.” That's because for most of human history, when it came to child-care, people had the daily support of family, friends and neighbours. Today, that's not the reality for many young parents. Not only that, parents are raising their kids in a much more technologically complex world. So the question becomes, with a smaller support network, how can parents use technology to help raise their children, without letting it get in the way. Featuring Jennifer Traig, Alison Gopnik, Mike Rothman, Dr. Harvey Karp, Jill Gilkerson and Dana Porter. For more on the podcast go to delltechnologies.com/trailblazers

My guest in the latest episode of the Grant Williams Podcast is the founder of Cornerstone Analytics, Mike Rothman. Mike's experience in the energy sector is unparalleled - something he demonstrates conclusively in this excellent conversation. Swiftly putting to rest the widely-held belief of a seamless transition to green energy any time in our immediate future, Mike explains why that misconception is problematic and the likely ramifications once realization dawns more broadly. Mike Rothman is the President and Founder of Cornerstone Analytics, an independent research firm that provides macro energy research. Mike is an industry veteran, having covered the oil market sector since 1984. He started his career at Merrill Lynch, built the energy research platform at ISI, and has attended OPEC meetings since 1986. Mike joins The Stock Podcast to discuss the global oil market, capacity reserves, and supply following the recent attack on the Abqaiq oil processing facility. On Sept. 14, 2019, the world awoke to the news that numerous drones and scud missiles hit Abqaiq, the world's largest oil processing facility. The attack resulted in 5.7 million barrels of oil production capacity going offline, which equates to about 6% of global oil production. The event was the single largest loss of Saudi oil production in history. Welcome to The Science of Storytelling, the podcast that explores the most unique and engaging content collaborations between publishers and advertisers. This week on the show, we're chatting with Mike Rothman, CEO and Co-Founder of Fatherly. Mike has been the face behind Fatherly for over six years. He created the publication as a way of addressing the deficit that he saw in helpful content for dads in the digital age. Last year, Fatherly partnered with Chrysler Pacifica for “The Family Car” campaign. The goal of the partnership was to take an out-of-the-box approach to buying a vehicle for your family by creating both practical (car seat safety tips) and tongue-in-cheek (looks dads give in the rear-view mirror) content. Eighty-one percent of Fatherly's readers with a child between the ages of zero and two had bought a car in the last year, which Mike says made the publication a perfect fit for the brand's goal of illustrating their family-friendly functionality. We spoke to Mike about how Fatherly came to be, their partnership with Chrysler and the importance of publishing content created by parents, for parents. They say if you live long enough . . . Few things give me greater pleasure than seeing my friends well earned success. Rich Mogull and Mike Rothman (along with Adrian Lane, Jody Brazil & Brandy Peterson) have been chasing a dream for more than a few years now. How to make the SecOps persons life easier, while bringing security into the age of DevOps, automation, agile, CI/CD, etc. Say hello to DisruptOps (http://www.disruptops.com). I first interviewed Mike about DisruptOps a few months ago. The company was just emerging from stealth. While they are still in preview, they were one of hundreds of companies that threw their hat into the ring for the prestigious RSAC Innovation Sandbox. Very proud to report that they were one of 10 finalists selected for this years program. If history is any guide, the fact they made the final cut is a good indicator of success to come. And well it should frankly. This founding team are some of the most dynamic, talented and smartest people I know in the business. I had a chance to sit down with Rich Mogull and Mike Rothman to discuss what is driving DisruptOps and what the disruption is all about. Have a listen as we talk about it from the executive view, the security admin view and the market view. Also be sure to check out DisruptOps at DevOps Connect: DevSecOps Days at RSAC, Monday, March 4th. https://www.devopsconnect.com/event/devops-connect-devsecops-days-rsac-2019/ Rich is also on a panel at the event as well as several other sessions at RSAC this year. Enjoy!
It is really my pleasure to present this episode of DevOps Chat. I have known Mike Rothman for 15 years or so. He and his partners in DisruptOps, Rich Mogull, Adrian Lane, Jody Brazil and Brandy Peterson have been some of the sharpest guys in the information security world for a long time. I knew they were working on a DevSecOps startup but I couldn't say anything. Well know the cat is out of the bag and I am happy to give you this conversation with Mike, who is President of DisruptOps. This is a company to watch with real ideas and experience behind it. Have a listen to our conversation and check them out at http://disruptops.com
Our CISOs don't have much confidence they'll receive any support when they hit the 'Send' button on your web form. Check out our NEW SITE: CISOseries.com This show, like all the previous ones is hosted by me, David Spark (@dspark), founder of Spark Media Solutions and Mike Johnson, CISO of Lyft. Our guest this week is Aaron Peck, CISO of Shutterfly. Special thanks to our sponsor, ConnecTech, producer of intimate custom executive events for IT professionals. Executives: Register to be notified when one of their events will be coming to your city. Vendors: Sponsor one of their events to get meetings with executives that are looking for solutions that your company provides. On this episode of the CISO/Security Vendor Relationship Podcast: Ask a CISO What were the turning points that led you to achieve the title of CISO? We've got a shout out to Mike Rothman's book, "The Pragmatic CISO" and the desire to find and solve the toughest most needed security problems. How a security vendor helped me CISOs have heard the stories from all the major InfoSec vendors. They're tired of playing second and third fiddler to a vendor's hundreds if not thousands of other clients. While a young startup company, potentially in stealth mode, doesn't necessarily have a track record, they do have eagerness and are willing to make their earliest and first customers extremely happy. This hand-holding-type relationship is very attractive to a CISO. What's Worse?! This entry into our weekly game is all about the following two images. There's so much going on in these pictures of a man who has decided to start day trading in public at a local Starbucks. Can you determine what's worse in these two pictures? Our CISOs debate. For more, check out the avid discussion on LinkedIn. What do you think of this pitch? Mike delivers probably the most thorough analysis of a vendor pitch I've ever heard on the show. What's a CISO to do? Hiring great InfoSec talent is an extreme challenge. Our guest, Aaron Peck, makes an argument for speedy hiring to get value for the company as quickly as possible.

Mike Rothman built his career at communications and media companies including Digitas, Hachette and Thrillist. After spending 7 years at Thrillist growing the company from $0 to $100m, Mike yearned to go back to the days of wearing many hats while growing a nascent business. Several months after leaving Thrillist, Mike and his co-founder began incubating Fatherly, a parenting resource geared towards men who want to be great fathers without turning into cliches. Fatherly bootstrapped for a year and a half and has raised $2m to date while become the go-to resource for new fathers and even some mothers! Download this week's podcast episode to hear more about Fatherly and how Mike became the godfather to the child of one of his first cold call recipients.
Today, Mike Rothman is a successful TV producer, specializing in live shows. However, he's had anything but a typical life, from dropping out of high school to overcoming a drug addiction - which makes for one hell of a life and story. Mike is a great example of how hard work pays off, and that we can always change directions in life and jump onto a different and more productive path (regardless of our circumstances, age, career, etc.).
Mike Rothman, co-founder and CEO of Fatherly, steps on to the New York Launch Pod to discuss his digital destination for young parents (not necessarily only fathers). Realizing that parenting content was not

I just recently started listening to the podcast as I'm only now discovering the infosec field, so first off, I'd like to say thank you for making this resource freely available. Now for my question; I am an incoming college freshman (Computer Science) and am at a sort of crossroads. If I wanted to put myself in the best possible position for a successful career in the infosec field, is the military a viable option? I have the option of joining ROTC in school, and I would have to commit to this if I decided to peruse that path. My long term goal would be to work for an intelligence agency in the federal government. If I was to leave the military or not pursue federal work, do most private companies hire employees with active duty military experience? Or would remaining a civilian throughout school present me with more opportunities? -Shane Non-Noob Response The answer is absolutely. Active duty military is a plus when getting hired. I would suggest finding a profession that you like and can enjoy such as intelligence, networking, or information security jobs inside the service. I for one wouldn't be where I am today without the help of being in the military. Gave me the focus, experience, and opportunity to break through in the private sector. It's a great combination of security news, comedy, and tragedy. It's great, keep it up. I'm emailing about your podcast to you rather than posting on the appropriate Facebook page, as I find email to be a preferred method of communication. I hope that's okay. Now, my question. I'm a young, ambitious Engineer who finds the topic of Network Security to be exciting and interesting. I work in a network security team in a large company and I am always trying to expand my skills and abilities. Simply put, I'm wondering what advice you have for an inspiring individual in this industry. Also, what resources did you rely on when you were starting out. What resources do you find to be the most valuable now? Specifically I struggle with finding friends, co-workers, or online buddies that share the same career interests and passion. After I spend a day troubleshooting a particular security issue I want to have a group of individuals I can spit ball ideas with. I find myself feeling like I am in a silo. This is particularly odd because I know for a fact that the world is full of brilliant network security minds. I'm thinking of attending one of the upcoming security conferences this year just to make some like minded friends. It's just annoying/expensive because I'd likely have to fly to the US. Can we not just turn that on its head using their own logic and say: "You either stand for privacy and security or you stand with the human rights abusers." Episode 0x29 -- Not just CrO2, but now with Dolby Does anyone read show notes? So last week had a really annoying failure in the workflow that gets this podcast from a bad Skype conference call to your ears oh precious listener. In this case, it was the failure to apply the noise canceller magic. This means that if you downloaded the podcast from the time that it was posted until I overheard the Liquidmatrix Intern listening to the podcast, you got to hear all of the background noise from each recording. Including Wil's unfortunately loud Bermuda frogs. I can't promise that it won't happen again, mostly because so much of the production workflow is human-based and not automatically awesome like it could be. Sigh. I suppose all of those automation people can't be wrong. Or something. Upcoming this week... Episode 0x28 -- For Reals... it's here. I SAID it's a weekly podcast Life gets in the way of art. There's five of us, we are operating from 3 time zones and several of us have a whole lot more than just one job, and then parenting duties as well. This negatively contributes to the possibility of getting all of us together at the same time for a recording. We're trying to figure out what to do about it. It may be that we go for more frequent recordings of whomever is available and stuff together the rest of us when we can. Sigh. Or something. Upcoming this week...
