This week we are joined by Julianne Ponan, our special guest who is an allergy expert and the founder of Creative Nature.Julianne recounts her personal experiences with food allergies and we discuss a harrowing anaphylactic incident involving ex-Love Island star Jack Fowler due to miscommunication about food safety on a flight. The discussion transitions to the risks associated with peanuts and other allergen-containing products on airplanes. Julianne emphasises the need for airlines to adopt stringent measures to protect passengers with severe allergies. We also highlight positive steps taken by some airlines, such as Virgin Atlantic offering allergy-friendly snacks.Julianne speaks on the importance of education and awareness, especially among children in primary schools. Lucy remarks that children tend to see allergies factually and without prejudice—an observation underscored by Julianne's organisation, which offers allergy education programs to reduce bullying and promote understanding.Listeners are invited to join the Oh For Foods Sake community Facebook group to deepen their engagement and share their experiences. On today's episode, envision Together presents Morgan McCarver. Her work has been inspired by her female mentors of past and present, as well as her connection to Victorian corsetry through her scoliosis journey. She received an art degree with a ceramics concentration and a double minor in art history and business in 2019 from Anderson University in Anderson, SC. McCarver had the honor of receiving the 2019 Outstanding Art Major Ceramics Award her senior year. As a 2020 701 Center for Contemporary Art prize finalist, she had the honor of being the youngest artist to ever make it that far. She is a multi-award-winning artist who recently received an Artist Support Grant to attend a national ceramics conference. She has had the honor of displaying her work in 2 solo exhibitions, “FemininiTEA” 2020 and “The Strength of a Wildflower” 2022. She recently completed a residency at Edgewood Cottage in Blowing Rock Summer 2023 and participated 2022 as well. McCarver has studios in Asheville, NC and Spartanburg, SC. Her art can be found in various galleries around the Carolinas and Tennessee. Her first book, “God the Artist: Revealing God's Creative Side Through Pottery,” was released with Morgan James Publishing January, 2024.
What do we do when God interrupts our life and turns it in a completely different direction? My guest, Morgan McCarver has an answer to that question. Just when all of her disciplined years of dance training and mastering control of her body was about to pay off in the world of competitive dance, she was forced to submit to a surgery that would avoid severe health complications in the future. Morgan would endure a spinal fusion surgery that would alter her body's ability to comply with the demands of dance. With a year long recovery ahead, and without dance, Morgan felt the need to create so she and her mom began to look for various outlets. What could possibly be out of convenience for her mother's schedule, she enrolls Morgan in a summer camp and her class is a pottery workshop. You'll hear how God uses this seemingly insignificant enrollment to then open a whole new world for Morgan. Morgan makes mention of the book of Genesis (in the Bible) reminding us that humanity is first introduced to God through the creation process and it's that side of His nature that He shares with Morgan as a way of revealing His heart to her. The beauty He brings forth through this form of expression in Morgan can be found in numerous art galleries, her Etsy account and in the pages of the book she's written, titled, “God the Artist: Revealing God's Creative Side Through Pottery.” As Morgan creates with her hands, God is creating in her and through her as well and it's the same for each of us. Listen in to discover the beauty God has for us in the creative process and how it can be overlayed onto what He's doing in our lives as the individuals He created us to be. “That's where the magic happens when you push yourself to do things you don't feel comfortable doing .” As a sufferer from severe anaphylaxis, Julianne understood first-hand the danger and frustration of navigating a safe lifestyle free from potentially lethal allergens. With 1 in 12 children now being diagnosed with a food allergy, Creative Nature brings back the joy of eating to those with food intolerances. Creative Nature products are stocked in a few thousand U.K. stores, including Asda, Co-op and Sainsbury's, plus online retailer Ocado. In 2017, Julianne successfully pitched on Dragon's Den but turned down the 25% offer. In 2019 she made the Forbes 30 under 30 list and has just become MedicAlert's first UK ambassador. In this episode, Julianne shares her journey to starting her business at 22 years old, reliving some of her biggest challenges and pivotal moments - including pitching on Dragon's Den. She discusses her relationship with alcohol, and why having a severe food allergy places even further importance on the need to stay in control. In the eighth episode of It's The Small Things, we spoke to Julianne about how she turned Creative Nature from a debt-laden business into a major retail success with a turnover set to hit £2 million. Julianne bought Creative Nature in a management buyout in 2012, aged 22. Gradually, she transformed the company into a superfood brand and brought it back into profit. One of the reasons Julianne was so driven to create tasty free-from products is because she has suffered from anaphylaxis since she was two years old and was frustrated by the lack of products on the market. This episode has advice on: Developing your branding Pitching to major retailers Incorporating customer feedback into product development

Hey dreamers, it's a sweet summer day over here, a perfect time really to be soft and think about the ways we want to love, hold & accept ourselves. I've known my guest Danette Relic for many years and have learned SO much from her, she truly is one of the best cheer leaders and permission givers I've ever met. Here is some of what we talked about: What it means to be in radical self-engagement How Danette got married to herself and how it has changed her life Permission, creativity & love Growing up just wanting to fall in love & be an artist Danette Relic is a Canadian artist, self love coach and future author. Married to herself since 2001. From a young age Danette wanted two things: to be an artist and to fall in love. Her early art career moved from gallery spaces to round tables where she helped others explore their own creative voices through personal reflection, visual art and writing. Danette's multifaceted work continues to illuminate the relationship between self love and creative expression with The Art of Self Marriage. After a brain injury in 2018 challenged her capacity for reading and writing, she found the joy of using her voice to serve in new ways by starting The Soft Shoulder Podcast. This episode is a collaboration with the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival 2021. I chat with Kate Stevens, the Creative Learning Co-ordinator, at the Beacons arts centre, a contemporary theatre and arts venue in the heart of Inverclyde. Kate is one of the workshop facilitators of a series called; creative nature for wellbeing that ran during this year's festival. The Beacon partnered with Belville Community Garden Trust and Mind Mosaic Counselling and Therapy to deliver a series of workshops exploring the connection between our mental health and our relationship with nature. If you have ever wondered what 'creative therapy' may be about and wish to explore beyond the stereotypes of analysis, or that this isn't something you thought you can do, as you're not ‘a creative', then this podcast is for you. Here Kate and I give you first hand experience of a creative therapy workshop centred around the theme of nature. Join in whilst you listen to Kate leading me through two exercises: nature soundscapes where we immerse ourselves in some forest bathing. I find this both relaxing and slightly challenging when asked to make my own sounds to join the forest but it makes for a good discussion afterwards. Kate and I talk through memories and how they are formed as part of a writing exercise relating to my first experience in nature. This podcast is about the joy of sound and creative writing, the ability to connect us with the outdoors from inside our own rooms, whilst giving us tools to enable us to connect with what's going on inside us. Recently I have been connecting with the sounds around me in nature and brought some home to share in this episode.
*This is an episode I published under the podcast's old title: 'the INF Club podcast'. In August 2021, I renamed the podcast 'Diary of an indie writer' (see more below). — My conversation partner this week is Kendra Patterson. In Kendra's own words: "I am a writer, podcaster, and creativity coach with a background in social science research. I coach other creatives, sensitive intuitives, and late bloomers who are trying to create lives that feel purpose-driven and satisfying at a deep level. I'm currently working on a research project on living life experimentally rather than conceptually, and why this may be a better way to approach life for creative late bloomers struggling to feel like they are fulfilling their potential." -- Some of the things we talk about: - Experiencing 'whole-life' burnout, and how this added context to Kendra's experience of depression & anxiety - Why conventional therapy doesn't seem to work for us, and the conclusions that Kendra and I have drawn about this - On money: living frugally whilst on the creative path, vs peers who are hitting conventional, societal milestones - When Kendra knew that the conventional path wasn't for her, and moving out of burnout, depression & anxiety - Experimental vs conceptual types, & being a "late (repeat) bloomer" - Why Kendra's "dark night of the soul" was exactly what she needed to experience - Testing as an INFJ, but identifying as an INFP (being "on the cusp") — ℹ️ In August 2021, the podcast was renamed from 'the INF Club podcast' to 'Diary of an indie writer'. Episode 68 is the first episode I published under 'Diary of an indie writer'. All episodes prior to Episode 68 were published under 'the INF Club podcast', and they have been left as they were originally published. — by Jas: https://jasraj.me/ with music by Porter: https://www.madebyporter.com/ —

I’m joined by Julianne Ponan, founder of Creative Nature and one of Forbes “30 Under 30 to watch”. It was great to have Julianne on the podcast to find out about her upbringing living with so many severe allergies, and how she started an allergy-free brand when all the odds were against her. When Julianne bought Creative Nature it was losing over £56,000 she turned the brand around, and made it a massive success! When she was looking for investors they told her she was “just a little girl”. She defied them and made Creative Nature the success it is today through hard work, grit and determination to make great tasting products which are safe to eat! To be fruitful means to allow your creative nature to not only come alive but to flourish. The average person I know is not happy. And it’s not because of what’s happening now, because they were unhappy before. It because they aren’t in touch with their creative selves
Fundraising expert Julia Elliott Brown, the CEO of Enter The Arena talks with Julianne Ponan, Managing Director of superfood brand Creative Nature, a company that creates raw superfoods, snacks and food mixes suitable for everyone including those who are nutrition-conscious, vegans and those who live with a food allergy or intolerance.Julianne started her career in investment banking and was shortly asked by her father, a businessman, to do due diligence on a company he’d invested in that was failing, Creative Nature. He asked if she was interested in taking over the business to try to turn it around. She decided to turn it into a food brand due to her severe allergies to a large number of foods which had caused much distress over the years. Julianne first tried raising investment for the business and failed, unfortunately, so started growing the business organically and landed a contract with supermarket giant, Tesco. She appeared on Dragon’s Den, and ended up turning down investment from Deborah Meaden, a difficult decision to make. However, Julianne realised she was now confident in her mission and was ready to go out and seek investment through crowdfunding. Julianne raised over 500K, smashing her target of £350K.In this episode, you’ll discover:What to learn if you fail a funding roundWhy sometimes turning down investment is the right decisionHow to get over being scared of growing your businessFor the full video interview, go to http://www.enterthearena.co.uk/Fundraising-Stories/

How many times have you said, "I wish I was creative.." Well, I'm here to let you know that you were born to create. Therefore you ARE creative!!
Welcome to The Science of Storytelling, the podcast that explores the most unique and engaging content collaborations between publishers and advertisers. This week on the show, we're chatting with Chris Sweigart, Creative Director for USA TODAY's in-house branded content studio, GET Creative. When Chris started his career as a reporter at a television station in Atlanta, he never thought that 10 years later, he'd find himself on a farm in India interviewing a turmeric farmer for a national supplement brand. But that's exactly what happened in USA Today's latest campaign with Nature's Way. Chris has worked on both the editorial and branded content teams at USA Today producing video content for their digital platforms, so he has a unique take on how brands can use journalistic practices to tell incredible stories. We talked to Chris about taking Nature's Way back to their roots, why you shouldn't start a campaign with a "VR strategy" and how Indiana Jones inspired his career. Welcome back to the Ethical Entrepreneurs Podcast, on the show today we have Julianne Ponan. Apart from being the CEO of the Creative Nature brand. Julianne is the youngest winner of the National Natwest Everywoman Award plus she’s a keynote speaker and Virgin Start-up Mentor and has just made the Forbes 30 under 30 list. What we discuss: The power of focusing on solving a problem - Julianne suffers with Anaphylaxis - a severe and potentially life-threatening reaction to a trigger such as an allergy. It's also known as anaphylactic shock. Being adaptable is key when running a small business and understanding your finances is crucial. You need to really consider who you bring into your business, they need to live the products and understand the mission to the core. Why you have to support your supply chain, farmers and growers are key and they have to be supported. Entrepreneurship is not as easy as it looks. How being part of a community and support other entrepreneurs can build such powerful connections. Quotes: “We always had an aim to help the farmers and growers, our supply trade is absolutely key to us. We support the famers 100% and make sure that they are all paid fairly” “I always used to be shy about all of the good things we were doing, but I’ve learnt you have to blow your own trumpet. Promote the good stuff you’re doing and you’ll grow”. “If you physically go and surround yourself with fellow entrepreneurs, you’ll learn so much”. “I hope that these big brands make the changes in an ethical way, and not just jumping on the bandwagon”. This week Ian Luckett is joined by Julianne Ponan who at the age of 22 became owner and CEO of superfood brand Creative Nature. Today we learn how she came from working in Finance to owning a now growing company, what struggles the company went through, how she got through them all, and we also learn where the business is going now. In today’s episode we talk about how Julianne turned a challenge into an opportunity – she grew up with anaphylaxis and has to be choosy with what she eats, yet she created this brand that would serve individuals who need to watch out what they eat too. Julianne also shares how her ability in understanding the numbers in the business has helped her pick the business up for growth. She also shared what challenges they faced for their first big client, and how her family supported her as well as how important it is to not give up – Julianne and her team clearly had “make it work” moments before they became who they are today. We also discussed how important it is to be your best when talking to anyone, because you really would not know who you are talking to all the time. Julianne shares how in the food industry new products are coming in all the time so you are fighting for that shelf space, so you need to know and convey your Unique Selling Point very well. Julianne talked about what she would change (business-wise) if she can start all over again with the knowledge and skills that she’s got today. Julianne Ponan is a multi-award winning entrepreneur who at the age of 22 took over the failing company Creative Nature as CEO and within 2 years took it out of debt. She is also a Virgin Startup Mentor and fellow grownup allergy kid. She has multiple severe allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, chickpeas, coconut, aniseed, some perfumes and many other foods. I ask Julianne about growing up with allergies, how she has grown in confidence over the years and how that has impacted her life. From being the allergy kid at her own table, going to University and working in Beijing. Julianne reflects on her experiences of living with allergies and how they don’t have to hold you back and can be managed successfully. We talk about how she has grown Creative Nature from product testing in the kitchen to her products being stocked in Tesco, Ocado, Co-op and soon Pharmacies. I also quiz Julianne on the factory protocols and standards to make sure products are safe, this is one of the companies that I actually trust because Creative Nature products are suitable for Julianne’s allergies (all apart from the peanut bar)! Crowdfunding Uncut | Kickstarter| Indiegogo | Where Entrepreneurs Get Funded
So you’ve listened to all the podcasts.... Perhaps even taken my course, Crowdfunding Domination... You had a successful crowdfunding launch and now it’s time to create a real business. Now what? How do you transition from having a “campaign” to having a “business”? If you are looking to eventually get your product into large retail stores, then this episode will provide the blueprint. Julianne Ponan is the owner of Creative Nature Superfoods based in the United Kingdom. Five years ago, at 22 years old, she bought the company off of her father. It had £56,000 (~$75,000 USD as of publishing) in debt, and was also losing money month over month. “It was a bit stupid, and when I look back it would have been easier to start from scratch....” - Julianne Ponan The first thing she did was cut back on unnecessary expenses, eliminated almost all the products they were selling, and focused on hypoallergenic superfood snack bars. Julianne then methodically built a group of loyal repeat customers with local retailers, but she had eyes on going national. After hundreds of phone calls, trade shows, pitch meetings, she was finally able to secure listings in Tesco, the #1 grocery retailer in the UK. Creative Nature products are also in Ocado, Asda, and Sainsbury’s, as well as a host of other smaller health food stores. So how did she do it? She got “Creative”. In this episode and you will learn some unconventional tactics, like “ethical stalking” and strategic brownie baking, that allowed her business to explode. You’ll hear stories about her biggest mistakes so you can avoid them in the future.
Episode 57 on #MerryBiz is EPIC! Today's guest became the CEO of the UK Superfood Brand Creative Nature at just age 22. Within an 18 month period, she brought the company from almost bankrupt into profit. In the last year, she has taken the brand from strength to strength launching into one of the biggest pharmacies in the UK as well introducing a range of healthy bake mixes and snack bars. We're super excited to share how she did it with you! Welcome to #MerryBiz Julianne Ponan! Take a listen! "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." Some questions we ask... Take us back when you first took the Creative Nature business. What made you do that and how did you feel? Were there any challenges along the way? How has social media played a role in your business? Have you had any mentors involved in your business journey at all? How do you keep balance in running a business? Do you have a morning ritual, other than your spirulina shot? "Get up in the morning and don't hit that snooze button." Some AHA! Moments in this episodes... You need to believe in yourself no matter how young or old you are. Enjoy every moment, even the early days when you're doing EVERYTHING. Why you need to NOT hit that snooze button. Ever. How recreational activity with your team can create positive work culture. "When you feel like quitting, think about why you started." See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
