How are you helping to crack open hearts and mend the frayed community we live in? In this episode, Jeff and Kelly discuss: Kelly's transformational experience in South Africa in her early 20s. The beauty of meeting new people and learning from them. Identifying your superpower. The need for engaging, values-based entertainment and programming. Key Takeaways: We are all different. If you are curious and kind, you can always find something that connects you to someone else. One of the biggest risks to success and happiness is allowing the day to take us through without spending our time intentionally.Be willing to take risks. Ask yourself at every juncture, do I want to go left or right? It will free you from the machine. God's time and path may not be what we expect, but it is guided by Him. Only in retrospect can we see that path. "Our job is not to preach. Our job is to crack open hearts. And you crack open hearts with high emotional stakes, with the realization that people can find themselves and their stories on the screen." — Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten Episode References: The Spiritual Art of Business by Barry L. Learning about new and improved ways to navigate archaic structures in our line of business is always very interesting. So, this week, I wanted to take you on a deep dive into blockchain entertainment financing --- refined by entrepreneurs and producers Kim Jackson and Jake Craven of Breaker.io.Kim is a member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, co-owner of SingularDTV, and CEO of its umbrella company, Breaker Studios, where Jake serves as Vice President of Content Partnerships.Breaker, founded in 2017, is a leading blockchain development and services company in the Media & Entertainment industry. It provides an innovative, intuitive, and user-friendly end-to-end royalty management platform for independent creators and distributors. Simply put, it uses blockchain and cloud-based technology to enable creators to maximize their revenue by automating revenue collection, backend accounting, and royalty payments while ensuring transparent reporting. I discovered Breaker when I stumbled upon Alex Winter's award-winning feature documentary, Trust Machine: The Story Of Blockchain produced by Kim. Trust Machine trailer. The film explains how Blockchain technology is already being used to change the world, fighting income inequality, the refugee crisis, and world hunger. If you are new to Blockchain or have felt overwhelmed by all the information Google threw at you in an attempt to learn the rudimentary theory of Blockchain and cryptocurrency, check out Vinay Gupta's 'A Brief History of Blockchain, Kim referenced during our chat.Breaker's concept is definitely the future of entertainment finance and, dare I say, global financial transacting.Being ahead of its time, Breaker is introducing products that allow for media revenue and royalty to be tracked via blockchain technology, which allows for an open-source network of data.Basically, Breaker provides a better model for instantaneous recording and eliminating mistrust, especially for independent companies that want to sustain a business and revenue model for themselves. I wish we had more time to continue the conversation because it was packed with filmtrepreneurial and blockchain knowledge bombs, and we could all do with the extra crash course. But I made sure to ask many important questions for you guys from today's experts. So, enjoy my conversation with Kim Jackson and Jake Craven.

Let us all take a moment to acknowledge the obvious. College athletes are finally being rewarded for their athletic brand, potential and capabilities. Yes, thanks in large part to Name, Image, and Likeness. It's transformed the way we view college athletics and sports overall. As we transition from swallowing this reality, we now in favor of the athlete have to pose the question how they can maximize their earning and athletic potential. We'll revisit this question in just a moment however, first I want to bring your attention to the financial costs to the institutions who are responsible for flipping this bill In year two, three-quarters of the NIL market revenue derived from collective dollars, per Opendorse. To stay competitive, Power 5 programs will need to offer more than $1 million annually, Front Office Sports reports. Now back to my original premise when we started this conversation. How can athletes maximize their brand potential? For the answer I'd wish to introduce you to Jack Adler Founder & CEO of Out2Win. An Athlete Marketing, Personal Branding and Content Creation company focused on helping athletes and brands leverage the Name, Image, and Likeness space through strategic & creative content partnerships. In this episode, I have a deep-dive conversation with Mike Wooller, Head of Content Partnerships at Global. Mike has a wealth of experience in the industry and this episode is a must-listen for the serious indi podcast creator. We kick things off by demystifying some of the often-used industry jargon. Mike breaks down what terms like "Spot", "Programmatic", "Direct Sell", "Host Read", "MRG", and "CPM" really mean. Next, we're discussing the current climate in the podcasting world. How are brands and advertisers responding to the ever-changing economy, and what does this mean for the podcasting sector as it continues to find its feet?As podcast advertising revenue grows, we take a look at the latest trends. Mike shares his thoughts on how this surge in revenue is shaping the podcasting landscape and how that might look in the future. We also explore what attracts advertisers to a podcast beyond just download numbers. What are those magic metrics that advertisers really care about? And, how small can a podcast's download numbers be before advertisers lose interest? For serious indie podcasters, we discuss whether direct partnerships are still viable and, with the growth of the podcasting industry, could there be more opportunities arising from a more automated, programmatic approach? We also chat through immediate monetisation with "ad marketplaces": can a brand-new show really make significant revenue from these marketplaces?Lastly, we consider: How is the success of a podcast ad campaign measured? How this might differ depending on the goals of the campaign? Plus, we chat over some common misconceptions that indie podcasters often have about advertising, as well as some potential roadblocks that can arise when renewing ad and content partnerships.Mike is an expert in his field and, for a serious podcaster like you, this is a must-listen episode! While the majority of businesses were sending employees home at the beginning of the pandemic, Moderna was rapidly scaling. When the pharmaceutical company joined the race to a vaccine, it grew overnight by more than 2,000 employees. Suddenly every Moderna employee was thrust into the public spotlight, making it more important than ever for leadership to ensure employees and their families felt cared for and supported. In this episode of the PRovoke Media Podcast, Megan Miller, Head of Content Partnerships at PRovoke Media talks with Scott Allison, global chairman & CEO at Allison+Partners and Tracey Franklin, chief human resources officer for Moderna, about the impact of the pandemic on Moderna — a company that was propelled to global notoriety as it worked toward a COVID vaccine — and role culture played in its success. Allison and Franklin discuss the unprecedented value of face-to-face video calls with their people during a crisis, as well as the unexpected ways in which they met the needs of their employees during a time of risk and uncertainty. Moderna's established culture that already prioritized taking care of its people was put to the test during the pandemic as employees' needs demanded new types of support that included things like childcare and meal deliveries. It was this commitment to putting people over the work that was instrumental in Moderna's successful development of a COVID vaccine. Topics like burnout, growth, working from home and handling being a company shot into the global spotlight as Moderna are also discussed.

Learning about new and improved ways to navigate archaic structures in our line of business is always very interesting. So, this week, I wanted to take you on a deep dive into blockchain entertainment financing- refined by entrepreneurs and producers Kim Jackson and Jake Craven of Breaker.io.Kim is a member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, co-Owner of SingularDTV, and CEO of its umbrella company, Breaker Studios, where Jake also works as Vice President of Content Partnerships.Breaker, founded in 2017, is a leading blockchain development and services company in the Media & Entertainment industry. I discovered Breaker when I stumbled upon Alex Winter's award-winning feature-length documentary Trust Machine: The Story Of Blockchain produced by Kim. The film explains how Blockchain technology is already being used to change the world, fighting income inequality, the refugee crisis, and world hunger. If you are new to Blockchain or have felt overwhelmed by all the information Google threw at you in an attempt to learn the rudimentary theory of Blockchain and cryptocurrency, check out Vinay Gupta's 'A Brief History of Blockchain, Kim referenced during our chat.Breaker's concept is definitely the future of entertainment finance and, dare I say, global financial transacting. Being ahead of its time, Breaker is introducing products that allow for media revenue and royalty to be tracked via blockchain technology, which allows for an open-source network of data.Basically, Breaker provides a better model for instantaneous recording and eliminating mistrust, especially for independent companies that want to sustain a business and revenue model for themselves.I wish we had more time to continue the conversation because it was packed with filmtrepreneurial and blockchain knowledge bombs, and we could all do with the extra crash course. But I made sure to ask many important questions for you guys from today's experts. So, enjoy my conversation with Kim Jackson and Jake Craven.

Kay Madati was born to a single, Tanzanian mother who died when he was 12. Kay and his brother were then adopted by a very affluent caucasian couple who lived on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. His new family situation was an uncanny mirror to the plot of Diff’rent Strokes, one of the most popular American TV shows of the early 1980s. In a very short period of time, Kay went from a world where “black kids were never supposed to be anything but working class” to attending Riverdale Country School, an elite and nurturing private school in which teachers opened his eyes to his own massive potential. His experience, while rooted in tragedy, is a testimony to the transformative power of adoption and how parenting, education, and access are undeniable sources of privilege. Kay eventually graduated from Georgetown University and went on to a career in media, working for some of the world’s most prestigious corporations, including BMW, CNN, Facebook, and BET Networks where he was Chief Digital Officer. Most recently, Kay was the Global Vice President and Head of Content Partnerships at Twitter, overseeing the company’s worldwide efforts to engage with media and content publishers across TV, Sports, News, Film, Music, among other categories. Kay is a citizen of both the United States and Tanzania. In 2014, President Obama appointed him to the President’s Advisory Council on Financial Capability for Young Americans. Today he serves on the Advisory Board of Harvard Univeristy’s Hutchins Center for African and African-American Research, and is a member of the board of directors of Wingstop, a quickly-growing restaurant and franchise concept. Outside of work, Kay is a passionate advocate for youth in underserved communities. He is a founding Board Member & Chairman Emeritus of both Brooklyn Excelsior and Atlanta Heights Charters Schools. We dive into the emerging arena of “computational photography” -- where cameras capture increasingly complex data that computers process to enable imagery never before possible. One of the most mind blowing areas of “Computational Photography” is “Light Field” imagery, which redefines much of what we took for granted about photo capture. With “Light Field” captures, we can change focus, depth of field and aperture at any point after the image has been taken. It also enables some degree of camera angle positioning to be adjusted in post-production. Or when viewing in frameless Augmented or Virtual Reality, it enables the viewer to move side-to-side and see the angel-of-view in the environment adjust real-time with your body positioning. The leader in “Light Field” photography is a company called Lytro. Our guest today is Steven Swanson, the Executive Director of Content Partnerships for Lytro. Steven is active in many of the most bold, innovative media-tech projects today. Prior to Joining Lytro, Steven was a VFX Supervising Producer with Luma Pictures, one of the most prominent Hollywood VFX houses. We explore the current state and potential of “Light Field” photography, dive into Lytro’s next-generation product the “Volume Light Tracer”, and get Steven’s insight into the evolution of immersive media.

We hope you had a chance to attend our Take Five for Your Future webcast, "Mad Men 2013: How agencies are adapting to the times and trends of a multi-screen world" on October 30th. If you couldn't join us, or want to review some of the information again, you can view the complete webcast here. A panel of experts including John Collins, Managing Director, Broadcast & iTV at Media Storm, Mike Donahue, EVP, Strategic Partnerships at the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A's), Greg Siano, EVP, Director of Media Services at The Tierney Agency, Ken Nippes, Vice President/Media Director at Cramer-Krasselt and Chip Meehan, VP, Content Partnerships at Comcast Spotlight, on how agencies need to change their internal processes--as well as their media planning, buying, account and creative teams--to better serve clients in this new multi-screen environment. Webcast attendees got to participate in live polling to see how their answers matched up with the results of a new nationwide survey of agency executives on the future of media buying. In this lively panel discussion, our experts shared their thoughts on the value of impressions across the different screens and how the media buying model needs to adapt to the change in media consumption patterns, including ROI on new media. The panel also discussed whether set-top-box data should be used to better target ads to consumers because targeted messages to targeted audiences has been found to have a greater impact on purchase behavior than traditional TV advertising as we saw on our last webcast in August. To learn more about the results from our survey to national agencies on these topics, watch the full webcast now. You'll get the largest search results by just searching by last name. Look over the results to narrow down all the possibilities. Try adding first name next. Some combinations of first and last names are more difficult to find exact matches for than others (e.g., John Smith). But if you have an unusual name like Jared Quackenbush the search will only return a few results. Next, if you know the location enter a full state name in the Place search. There are some results in their databases, such as for Google Books, that may not come up via the geographic. Don't forget to try alternative spelling for a surname. Additional Search Tips: Entering a date is best when you only give a year. If you already know a lot about an ancestor and now want to know specific information, try the Advanced Search. Use broad search terms, not an exact year of birth. Although you may know this information, mistakes may have been made in a document, or a first name may be abbreviated (e.g., Geo* is a good search term for George or J* may bring up a John that is otherwise listed as Jn). Excluding a source from a search because you have exact knowledge about an ancestor could lead to less accurate search results.
