MISSION, Texas - Mission Economic Development Corporation believes its Ruby Red Ventures Build Mission Fund helps attract small businesses to the city. Under the program, small businesses that have been going for two years, are in good standing, and based in Mission, can apply for up to $15,000 in grants. The grants can be used to help with operation sustainability, facility improvements, expansion, working capital, and job retainment and creation. Brianna Casares, manager of marketing and programs at Mission EDC, granted an interview to the Rio Grande Guardian. She said of Ruby Red Ventures: “It's something that the entrepreneurs and business owners kind of wait for and are constantly asking, when is it coming back? How can I apply? How can I get ready for this? So, it's definitely popular and it kind of entices people to move here so that they can apply for it or move their business to Mission for the chance that funding.” Asked what the program is all about, Casares said: “Ruby Red Ventures is a grant program that we have here at Mission EDC. Previously, it was a competition, a pitch style Shark Tank type competition. But we really wanted to go back and honor our existing businesses. So prior, it was just for startups, but now, any businesses that have been in operation for the last two years are eligible to apply. “And they can apply for whatever it is that they may need, whether it's equipment, operations, sustainability, if they need to hire anybody, if they have any marketing initiatives, anything that's unique to their business, they can apply for that. So, there's not really any strict parameters as to what you are ineligible for, and you also don't have to compete. So it's just a simple application. You apply online, and kind of just tell us about your business. You give us a detailed project plan, and then we go from there.” Casares continued: “This grant provides financial support to businesses that might otherwise face barriers to growth. It's just one more way Mission EDC is creating more jobs and opportunities for investment in our community.”Editor's Note: Go to the Rio Grande Guardian website to read the full story.Go to www.riograndeguardian.com to read the latest border news stories and watch the latest news videos.

Send us a Text Message.Google's Local Business Service Woes: Persistent Bugs and AI-Driven Layoffs Spark Concern: There have been ongoing support and technical issues with Google Business Profiles. Major bugs affecting local business profiles have persisted for months and in several cases years, including image misassignments and overzealous suspension algorithms that remove legitimate reviews. Google's support and engineering teams have struggled to resolve these issues, partly due to significant layoffs aimed at funding AI projects. While Google's local business services might not generate significant revenue for Google, they are crucial for the company's differentiation in the market. Is Google killing the goose by milking traditional resources for income and not investing enough to stay ahead of the competition. CNET's Future Under Ziff Davis: Challenges and Google Opportunities/Difficulties Post-Sale: Red Ventures recently sold CNET to Ziff Davis for around $100 million, a significant loss from the $500 million purchase price. Despite Red Ventures' strong SEO and digital product expertise, CNET struggled due to aggressive content strategies and controversies over AI-generated content. CNET, once a trusted tech review site, saw its reputation and traffic decline. Factors like Google's increased emphasis on shopping ads and affiliate revenue pressures contributed to CNET's struggles. The sale to Ziff Davis is viewed as a positive move, but the site's recovery remains uncertain and tracking whether CNET can recover in the SERPS is worth following to see if a well managed, strong domain with good content can overcome Google's algorithmic whims. Google's Antitrust Remedies: Implications for Apple, Mozilla, and the SEO Landscape: What will the repercussions of Google's recent antitrust liability be?. The potential remedies, such as breaking up Google, ending exclusive default search deals with Apple, and implementing data-sharing practices, all have limits and issues. The big question will be the impact on Apple and Mozilla if Google's default search deals are prohibited. Apple has the potential to develop a robust search engine, considering its existing search index and AI advancements. Perhaps we are seeing the outline of that via Apple's announced relationship with ChatGPT. Given that the settlement could take 4 years and a similar amount of time for Apple to fully implement generative AI across their full user base, changes to the landscape will be slow in coming. The long-term effects of these potential regulatory changes could impact Google's market dominance. For now and the immediate future, SEO's need not worry as things will change little and when they do it will be slowly. The Near Memo is a weekly conversation about Search, Social, and Commerce: What happened, why it matters, and the implications for local businesses and national brands.Ep 169Subscribe to our 3x per week newsletter at https://www.nearmedia.co/subscribe/

Her role focuses on ALL's growth strategy, alumni experience, and overseeing our board of directors and stakeholder partnerships. Alex is no stranger to the leadership lab as she developed the pilot curriculum in 2018, and is thrilled to be back in this role as the organization continues to expand its impact. Her career has challenged her to consistently act like a start-up operator: developing people and structuring culturally competent organizations from the ground up.Alex started her career as an HR consultant for SPX, an international manufacturing company. She led projects in recruiting and mergers and acquisitions in Charlotte, NC and Battle Creek, MI, talent and organizational development in Dusseldorf, Germany, and labor negotiations and employee relations in Delavan, WI and Ocala, FL. This HR work led to a passion for building the talent pipeline and she transitioned to Red Ventures, a marketing acquisition company in Charlotte, NC. Alex led college recruitment strategy and execution at target universities to hire 50 analyst and web developer associates a year. She handled new associate onboarding and career trajectory plans, as well as recruited for HR, finance, and computer engineering roles at RV. Recruiting college talent led Alex back into the classroom at The Ohio State University. During graduate school, Alex held a role in Student Life Advancement, focusing on student philanthropy and leadership development. She stayed at the university post-graduation working as Project Manager for the President and CEO of the Ohio State Alumni Association. In this role, Alex handled administrative duties and projects for the CEO, while acting as a communications partner for department leaders across the alumni association and Advancement. Her family later took her to Phoenix, AZ where Alex worked for an international access-to-education non-profit as the Director of Communications and Marketing, traveling between the U.S. and Arusha, Tanzania. As mentioned above, she then had the opportunity to work from Phoenix to develop the inaugural curriculum for the Advancement Leadership Lab in 2018, and launch the pilot program across 10 universities. In 2019, Alex had the opportunity to return to Columbus, leading organizational operations as Chief of Staff for the Ohio State Alumni Association and stayed on as an advisor for the Advancement Leadership Lab. Alex enjoys her side gigs of interior design clients and teaching at CorePower Yoga.About Michael: A graduate of the University of California, San Diego, Mike Eicher began his career in higher education at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he rose from associate director of development in the School of Medicine to deputy director and director, and from there to vice provost for medical science development, then assistant and associate vice chancellor. Under his leadership as vice chancellor, Campaign UCLA, a 10-year effort completed in 2005, raised $3.05 billion. Prior to joining Ohio State, Mike served for six years as senior vice president for external affairs and development at Johns Hopkins University, where he led the Johns Hopkins: Knowledge for the World Campaign. That effort focused on student aid and faculty support, construction of clinical buildings at the medical campus and important renovation projects. It closed in 2008 with commitments of more than $3.7 billion. Mike returned to a public university because he believes in its noble mission and great power. He joined Ohio State in fall 2012 as senior vice president for Advancement and president of The Ohio State University Foundation. Building on his goal to inspire people to choose Ohio State – for their education, medical care, research support, entertainment and more – he has set out to share the university's most compelling stories, engage more than half a million alumni, and expand private philanthropy to support Ohio State's core priorities. Under Mike's direction, Ohio State streamlined and integrated its communications and marketing, alumni relations and fundraising teams. He led the But for Ohio State Campaign, which raised over $3 billion from more than 750,000 donors and became the university's most successful fundraising effort ever. Mike built upon that momentum and, along with his team, planned and launched Time and Change: The Ohio State Campaign in fall 2019. While its financial goal is the largest in Ohio State's history — $4.5 billion focused on student success; discovery; and healthy, vibrant communities — what truly sets this campaign apart from all others is its goal to engage 1 million supporters, which is unprecedented in higher education. Mike is focused on organizational growth, health, and wellness, which led to Advancement's establishment of a chief diversity officer position and the Advancement Inclusion Council. Both serve as resources by providing personal and professional development opportunities for staff. Mike's commitment to putting people first has been instrumental in the transformation of Advancement during his tenure. He lives in Columbus with his wife, Inez, and travels frequently. They have two grown children: Brandon Eicher (Kate) and Christine Peterson (Shane). They also have three young granddaughters who they love to spend time with.

Wikipedia for all things fictional, fantasy and entertaining, Fandom has unique insight into how passionate internet users are about different shows, movies and video games. But the data doesn't stop at the behavioral data around those curiosities. Fandom's plethora of user generated content and community boards have also lended itself to the company's first-party data collection. And after 18 years of accumulating data on favorite characters, plot lines and cross-over interests, that first-party data, called FanDNA, is sold to advertisers to inform everything from traditional ad campaigns to research & development on new projects and merchandise. On the latest episode of the Digiday Podcast, Stephanie Fried, CMO of Fandom, discussed how her team started categorizing this data into four, affinity-based groups to help clients understand where to invest and how to best reach their target audiences. She also covered why Fandom is interested in developing the top-of-funnel, discovery side of its business. This year, the company acquired seven brands from Red Ventures, including TV Guide, to start building out data around how audiences find new programming, and is also building a new personalization tool to help recommend content and ads based on previous searches.

In this episode, I chat with Ashray Malhotra, the Founder of Rephrase.ai, a platform for producing videos of virtual humans with synthetic voices reading out a script for marketing, sales, and other business needs. For those who don't know how Rephrase works, a customer can select an avatar, background, and voice, and enter the text that the avatar will recite. The AI processes the script through the voice model and matches the chosen avatar's lip movements to the words to mimic how a real human would look and sound while performing. You can then embed the video on their website, social media page, or wherever else you choose. Be willing to measure and iterate. It's easy to get attached to tools or tech because they are cool. Don't! Stay objective. It's crucial to align on what problem(s) you are trying to solve and why before moving forward on vendor/tool selection, no matter build versus buy. If it doesn't have a positive return on investment, why do the work?Beware the sunk cost fallacy! It's easy to not want to shut something down that you've spent a lot on. But don't throw good money after bad. When requirement gathering/negotiating, have a 'maniacal focus' on asking "what does this drive for the business?" You can quickly sort the nice-to-haves from the needs and you can have an open and honest conversation about cost/benefit of each aspect of a request. When thinking about maximizing value, there is always one constraint that is the bottleneck. You can optimize other things but they won't drive the value. Find and fix the value bottleneck.A simple two axes framework when thinking about use cases and requirements is value versus complexity. Look for high value low complexity first.Be open and honest in discussions around expected costs of work/tools - which can be considered part of the complexity.
