Aleka Melson was born and raised in the Washington DC, Maryland area. She is currently a member of The Life Center Church in Camp Springs, MD under the direction of pastor Jay Cameron.  She works for CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield as a quality assurance auditor.  She is a mentor with the I Love Me girls mentoring program and currently teaches/coaches the Friendly High School flag team which is her alma mater.  Aleka is a proud mother of a daughter who just graduated from high school and as she prepares her for the next chapter of her life in college, she is now preparing herself to take on the role of being a new author.   PRECIOUS WILLIAMS-As a 13-time local and national business elevator pitch champion and former lawyer, Precious Williams has been featured on top television shows and publications for her pitching and branding skills. Shawn Starling is a native of Richmond Virginia. The father of two girls, grew up in Mosby Court, one of the city's worst projects where he chose the life of crime. As a result, he end up serving 9 years in federal prison where he taught himself how to write. Shawn was released in July of 2013 and while on house arrest he typed up his debut novel, Real Recognize Real.   Suzette D. Harrison, a native Californian and the middle of three daughters, grew up in a home where reading was required, not requested. Her literary “career” began in junior high school with the publishing of her poetry. While Mrs. Harrison pays homage to Alex Haley, Gloria Naylor, Alice Walker, Langston Hughes, and Toni Morrison as legends who inspired her creativity, it was Dr. Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings that unleashed her writing. The award-winning author of Taffy is a wife and mother who holds a culinary degree in Pastry & Baking. Mrs. Harrison is currently cooking up her next novel…in between batches of cookies. 

Jemell Hill spent over two decades of his life as a drug dealing/entrepreneur that would always go to jail and lose his investments in the process. After his last arrest, Jemell Hill made a declaration to himself and his loved ones that upon his release he would commit wholeheartedly to rebuilding his businesses righteously. Novelist Blacc Topp  was raised on the streets of South Dallas, Texas. After the death of his father, feeling as though he had nowhere to turn he turned to the gang. The neighborhood gang, Dixon Circle 357um  Gangsta Crips is where he would learn to become ruthless and unfeeling. Although he was deep in the gang and game he continued his studies for fear that his mother would make him move to Florida. By the age nineteen he had been shot three times and was on his way to the Texas   Department of Corrections with a forty year prison sentence for distribution of narcotics.  After serving seven years he was granted parole (mainly due to his mother’s efforts). He used the education that he obtained inside to land a job at a top engineering firm in Texas. He began to chronicle his life, his mishaps and his capers which gave birth to The Hustle Chronicles, his debut novel and soundtrack of the same name. Justin Q. Young is a artist and author who speaks out how he changed his life for the better.  

Urban fiction, also known as street lit or street fiction is a literary genre set in a city landscape; however, the genre is as much defined by the socio-economic realities and culture of its characters as the urban setting. The tone for urban fiction is usually dark, focusing on the underside of city living. According to Publishers Weekly Street lit, urban lit, or hip-hop lit—whatever you may call it—the popular and controversial genre generally focused on crime, sex, and violence set in African-American neighborhoods.  It is also a multi million dollar industry. Teresa B. Howell is an Educator residing in Durham, NC. Originally from Boston, Mass.She decided to make her literary appearance in 2015, after years of writing personal journals and songs that she kept solely to herself. In July of 2015 she stepped out boldly on faith to make use of her pen for everyone to read. That Church Life was born and completed in March of2016. Teresa contemplated to publish but made it happen once again on May 26th, 2016.
