The Multicultural Media Producing Program is the first of its kind, a 16-week course to help teach students from all backgrounds the ins and outs of producing the news. The program, created by WISH-TV owner and chief executive officer DuJuan McCoy, just graduated its first class Tuesday night.“We want to increase diversity in the newsroom in helping create content and influence the message going out to viewers,” McCoy said.The program brought in students from across central Indiana to learn every aspect of TV news and what it takes to put on a broadcast.Students ranged from high school to college with some coming directly from program partner Ivy Tech Community College and others coming from universities in Indiana.Students in the program said it was important to them that there was a program ready to highlight and celebrate diversity.The program has already creating success stories. Danielle Moore, a senior at IUPUI, has already secured a job at WISH-TV as an associate producer, all before graduating college. “It's really exciting for me, especially since I haven't graduated college. When people think about starting a translation of the NT, they usually need to decide which Greek text they're going to use as a source text. Unlike OT translation where everyone defaults to the MT, there are more than one NT source texts to choose from, like the UBS, the Nestle-Aland, the Byzantine text, the Textus-Receptus and others. And some of the modern, popular ones are locked down by copyright. So over the course of the next two episodes I want to introduce you to someone who is innovating in this field, and trying to serve the Church with a transparent critical Greek text that everyone can use without any hindrance. Alan Bunning received his education in New Testament Greek from the Kensington Theological Academy under the tutelage of Dr. David R. Dilling, and received his D.Litt. degree for his work done in textual criticism. Alan's primary background is in computer science and after working in the industry for many years, he became a college professor working as an Assistant Professor in Computer Information Systems at Ivy Tech Community College and then was a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at Purdue University. Alan retired from Purdue University in 2020 and now devotes himself to working full time as the Executive Director for the Center for New Testament Restoration. Scott Bess set out to break the one-size-fits-all high school academic mold and launch Purdue Polytechnic High School where students learn in an engaging, hands-on environment and are inspired to seek out what they learn rather than be told what to learn. As Head of School, Scott created the vision and strategy for the initial Purdue Polytechnic High School in 2017. He has subsequently opened two more campuses. He is leading the planning for the expansion of Purdue Polytechnic High School throughout the state of Indiana. Scott has spent most of his career innovating new ways to teach students and instill in them a love to learn. Prior to joining Purdue Polytechnic High School, Scott was President of Goodwill Education Initiatives and founder of The Excel Center, which offers adults who have dropped out of school an opportunity to earn a diploma. He helped expand The Excel Center's model across the nation and today, The Excel Center serves more than 6,000 students in multiple states. In a groundbreaking 8-3 decision, the full Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation violates federal civil rights law. This came after Lambda Legal urged the Court to reverse a lower court ruling and allow Kimberly Hively to present her case alleging that Ivy Tech Community College, where she worked as an instructor for 14 years, denied her full time employment and promotions and eventually terminated her employment because she is a lesbian. Krystina Millar (she/her/hers) is a 22-year-old feminist, social justice advocate, and recovering academic living in Bloomington, Indiana. She received a B.A. in Sociology with Honors from Coastal Carolina University in 2019. She is currently a graduate student in the Department of Sociology at Indiana University, where she is finishing up her master's degree in sociology with a concentration in gender, sexuality, and health. She is also a student at Ivy Tech Community College, where she is beginning her studies towards becoming a registered nurse. Outside of the classroom, she volunteers in her community at organizations dedicated to poverty relief, harm reduction, and improving the health of people that society has historically left behind. From Indiana Crossroads Podcast: Linda Calvin, Vice President, School of IT at Ivy Tech Community College, joins the program to discuss how the pandemic has impacted the need for IT and IT talent.
