Purpose in serving Chicago missions trip What does it mean to Find purpose in serving? How to create the heart attitude of serving in all capacities without feeling drained? Well, I learned a huge lesson in how to serve without burning out during my recent Chicago Missions trip and I am excited to share with you the ways I still prioritized my well being during a stressful time! Here are a few things I learned... -Check you mindset What biases do you have against the population you are serving What things frustrated you about serving Why did you choose to serve? -Being flexible I had to be flexible with my time, sleep and nutrition choice but I made the best choices I could with what I had. -Having healthy outlets Journaling Talking to loved ones Getting back to movement These foundations helped me during a stressful time of serving! With the holidays right around the corner, you will encounter all sorts of invites, events, opportunities and temptations! Leading to the all too familiar response of overcommitting. Your intentions may be pure, especially as a nurse we have hearts that want to give, show up and serve for those who matter! Our feelings are a Natural part of life, these feelings warn us and give us signals about what our body needs. As a Nurse it can be easy to hide or distract ourselves from the feels because it is all too overwhelming. One way I distracted and comforted myself was by eating. Emotional eating was another form of self sabotage because I used this habit to deal with my stress instead of learn from it! I didn't realize that is what I was doing I was just trying to survive ! It wasn't until I did some loving and quiet introspection that I could be really honest with myself so I could change. Creating a Healthy Relationship with food is how I overcame and so can you! In my health journey, I have found myself second guessing the work that I do! I find that keeping my priorities of health and healing can sometimes feel over the top, especially if others don't support or see things the way I do. Does Transitioning get any easier? Something that I have learned in this entrepreneurship journey is, "There will never been an orientation book to becoming a Entrepreneur". This is all self guided!! Mental health & wellness has been getting a lot of popularity and rightly so we should be talking about it! Mental health is not a crutch, it's not a label... There are actual chemical reactions affecting our mood, motivation and focus !! Its all part of our body's natural process in which our moods and behaviors are regulated Imbalances in these happy hormones can cause low mood swings. So you not having the energy or motivation to workout is not because your not focused or committed enough! There is an actual depletion! BUT there are some tools you can add to your arsenal that can help you improve these chemical imbalances and ease the symptoms!!! Getting active creates a sense of well-being and achievement which releases more happy hormones like Serotonin! These hormones and molecules help your brain grow and you can begin to change your thought patterns!!
