Welcome to episode #936 of Six Pixels of Separation - The ThinkersOne Podcast. Here it is: Six Pixels of Separation - The ThinkersOne Podcast - Episode #936. My friend, Dan Pontefract, is a renowned leadership strategist, author, and keynote speaker with over two decades of experience in senior executive roles at companies like SAP, TELUS, and Business Objects. His focus has always been on corporate culture change, leadership development, employee experience, and overall performance improvement. Since leaving the world of full-time gigs in 2018, Dan has worked with organizations worldwide, including Salesforce, Amgen, Nestlé, and the City of Toronto, and countless others. He has a knack for turning leaders and corporate cultures into a competitive advantage, believing firmly that the future of work is now. In this conversation, Dan shares his insights on the evolution from work-life balance to work-life flow, emphasizing the need for a more fluid integration of work and personal life. We discuss how economic factors like the death of the middle class and shareholder primacy has reshaped work-life balance. Dan highlights the generational shifts in perspectives, with younger generations craving greater personalization and flexibility in their work lives. He stresses the importance of setting and respecting boundaries to maintain a healthy work-life balance, the role of culture in shaping this balance, and the potential impacts of gamifying work. Dan's latest book, Work-Life Bloom - How to Nurture A Team That Flourishes, delves into the intricate dance between our professional and personal lives. Drawing parallels to how a flower needs the right mix of sunlight, water, and nutrients to thrive, Dan argues that team members need the right mix of work-life factors to create a fulfilling existence. Through global research, interviews, and personal anecdotes, he offers practical solutions for leaders and organizations to foster environments where teams can truly bloom. Dan is also the author of Lead Care Win, Open To Think, The Purpose Effect and Flat Army. Enjoy the conversation... Running time: 59:06. Hello from beautiful Montreal. Economic factors, such as the death of the middle class and shareholder primacy, have had a significant impact on work-life balance. Generational differences exist in work-life balance perspectives, with younger generations seeking greater personalization and flexibility in their work. Setting and respecting boundaries is crucial for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Culture plays a vital role in shaping work-life balance, and organizations need to consider individual needs and values. The gamification of work can have both positive and negative effects on work-life balance. In-person interactions and connections are valuable for fostering work-life balance. Integrating productivity into work-life balance is a complex challenge that requires finding ways to be productive without sacrificing personal time. Leaders should strive to be coaches, providing support, empathy, and constructive feedback to their team members. The integration of artificial intelligence in the workplace raises concerns about job security and the need for human skills that cannot be automated. Societal considerations should include addressing the struggles faced by men in the workplace and ensuring equal support and opportunities for all genders.

Welcome to the Work-Life Flow podcast with a short and sweet special episode for International Women's Day and their motto #BreakTheBias.Book a Strategy call As you know, this podcast has morphed and I like to say that it is part of my journey of finding who I can best serve. At the onset of the pandemic, I felt the urge to help parents create a family team and look at education through the lens of life. While my desire to serve and help was strong, I think moms were struggling so much to just get through the day, that my program felt like “another” thing to do on top of it all. Just last week I had a client tell me that she felt like failing in life. She should be able to work, care for a high needs child and run the household. She said in tears “I see other moms do it and it makes me feel like a failure. I used to be very driven, but my child needs me so much and I don't have extended family to help. I am burnt out.”Lots of bias around the roles at home to be unearthed and cleared out. While I still love to talk about family culture and believe that it is important to work-life integration, I had to ask myself where can I make the biggest impact? Who would benefit most from my coaching? Through the pandemic nearly 2 million women have left, or shall I say had to leave, the workforce.  With all the support networks suddenly shutting down, many of us had to choose between a job or taking care of our children or elderly parents. This has set us women back decades of efforts in #Diversity and #Inclusion.Research published DeloitteGlobal's report, Women @ Work: A Global Outlook identifies a number of actions that employers can take to make meaningful progress when it comes to gender equality. These include embedding a truly inclusive culture, enabling a better work-life balance by going beyond policies, demonstrating a visible and measurable leadership commitment and providing meaningful development opportunities.“Meaningful and sustained change will only come when women experience ‘everyday' inclusive workplaces—whether virtual or in-person—where statements on the importance of gender equality are backed up by meaningful actions, and where goals are set and progress is measured,” Emma Codd, Deloitte Global Inclusion Leader says. For me it's all coming full-circle now with the partnerships with Leader's Lounge and Villyge. I also earned an executive coach certificate through the Center of Executive Coaching and am now working with high-achieving Women in STEM careers to reach their leadership goals while balancing career & family, so that they can bring their best selves to all areas of life, guilt-free.Together we can change the work culture one leader at a time! In this news, I currently have 5 openings for coaching. Book a Strategy call with me today and find out how I can help you move forward in your career and leadership journey. The link is in the show notes. Now that women are slowly joining the workforce again, they are asking for more support, more flexibility, more dialogue and are rejecting the daily bias they face. Let's all pay attention to what they need and offer proper support. With this, let's raise awareness to #BreakTheBias on International Women's day!

And just like that we're in 2022, wait we're already halfway through the first month of the New Year! How did that happen?!? …anyways, today I wanted to share a few updates about my work and the Work-Life flow podcast. My hard work of showing up consistently and bringing real-life stories and experiences to you has gained me some incredible opportunities for collaborations. The first collaboration that I formed was with Kease International and I became a partner coach for their Leader's Lounge membership. This means I have been preparing masterclasses for their members and offering coaching through their platform. Then, towards the end of the year, I had been approached by Debi Yadegari (whom I had interviewed in WLF episode 14 about working parent's diversity and inclusion needs) to become an Expert Coach for Villyge, an Employee Benefits Program. I am really excited for both of these opportunities to make an impact on working parents' lives.  And if you think your company could benefit from either the Leader's Lounge or Villyge's program, please share about these women-led companies with your HR or DEI department. You can find links to them on my website.I find this all very exciting and if you've been listening for a while, you know that one of my values is to be a lifelong learner, and as such, I decided to deepen my understanding of coaching and am currently enrolled to obtain my Executive Coach Certification. I'm in deep learning mode which may slow down my podcast output a little. You might have heard or read about “the great resignation”. More employees are leaving companies than ever before in search of a better fit. Employees ask for more than just a good salary, they want to be part of something bigger, feel included, and do meaningful work. Right now companies are very eager to learn how to attract and keep top talent, they are open to negotiations never imagined possible before. For companies, it is high time to invest in more Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Training, but also to offer a wide range of support through employee benefit programs such as Villyge, or the Leader's Lounge. I find this to be truly exciting and it is what I had been writing and talking about since the onset of the pandemic. This is good stuff! Positive change is happening. Now I am grateful to be able to shape a new corporate culture through my work and my collaborations. What does this mean for the Work-Life Flow Podcast? With me partnering more in the corporate space, this podcast will likely move away from homeschooling (although it is a topic I love) and offer more interviews with corporate leaders, and working moms rather than business owners. The tricky part about that is that it is way easier to get a guest who runs a business than a person who does not really benefit from appearing on a podcast….so bare with me as I create a guest list. This means that the work-life flow podcast might be a little more eclectic for a while, as I want to understand the driving forces for working parents' success, pitfalls, and well-being in the workplace and at home. The first few interviews that I have planned are with women and men who had a break in their career due to starting a family. With all this being said, let me know who you would like me to interview and what topics you would like to hear about. You can do this by joining my Work-Life Flow FB group, sending me a message on LinkedIn or on Instagram. I am always looking for a great guest or topic suggestions.

The use of an appointment scheduling appwhere she can choose what days to offer availability to her clients, helped her be more present in family time. Her husband, who is working evening shifts, is a true co-parent. He is involved in every aspect of the childrearing, as well as homeschooling them. With the flexibility of homeschooling and Anissa’s Doula work, they created their “Weekends” in the middle of the week to be able to interact as a family, because of her husband’s weekend shifts. She also shares how her extended family is a key piece to making her career choice a reality in the case of a birth when her husband is working as well. Get your Free Guide to setting BoundariesWhat we’re talking about...How being clear on your values gives you direction and perspective and helps remind yourself that this part is not forever. How important it is to have an involved co-parent in every aspect of life..Why her back to school schedule with strict deadlines made their work-life balance more challenging. Why we should not assume all the responsibilities are on us and how to offer opportunities to get involved to our partners. How using three calendars and a scheduling app helps Anissa with being present on her off days.Anissa’s preference for rhythm rather than schedule and why going back to school has been challenging. That with our family vision in mind, we can be more compassionate with ourselves and others. That it is important to consciously carve out time for what is important to you.Why with kids home all day, it’s important to weigh off expenses and benefits of an office space.

Achieving Work-Life Integration Through the Power of Relationships: My 3-Pillar System to Work-Life Flow

Work-Life Flow

Today’s episode is all about my approach to finding a work-life integration that’s right for you and your family. I think in terms of these 3 Pillars: the first pillar is YOU, the second YOUR FAMILY and the third YOUR WORK. When trying to reach work-life integration these play into each other, as they are the biggest moving parts. Depending on the season one might have a higher priority than the other. Most approaches to work-life balance talk about setting priorities and time management. And while these are definitely skills that help you become more efficient, I believe that the key to unlocking work-life integration is to leverage your leadership and communication skills. By showing up as a leader, with a clear vision and values you can inspire the people around you to achieve their highest potential. My preferred leadership style is using your emotional intelligence to create better relationships because empathy and compassion will create belonging and result in better communication. 10 Easy, Screen Free Hacks To Keep Kids Entertained(1) YOU - You create a Vision for yourself and your life. In this step it’s important to turn inside and think about what is important to you, your values so to speak. What are your professional goals? What do you envision as family time? What qualities do you want your children to exhibit as adults? Where do you see your relationship with your partner in 3, 5,10 years? My approach is to look at your real life circumstances (your work, be it part-time, full-time or self-employed, your income, your expenses), then integrate your values and take your vision to start building out a process to get you moving towards your vision.(2) Your family - I want you to think about them as your team and leverage their strengths. Chores can be seen as teamwork and free up some of your time to spend with your children. So they can see the direct effect their help has on my ability to be with them.(3) Your Work - What is your professional goal? Income goal? Do you need to be working full-time? Would flexible hours be an option? Remote working? What we’re talking about...Why I believe that work-life balance is more about thriving relationships (yourself, your family and work) and less about time-management.What questions to ask yourself when defining your values and achieving work-life integration in the process. That as a mom is the most difficult leadership position you'll ever have. Why increasing your Emotional Intelligence will benefit you not only at work but also in life. That once you get clear on your values there is generally enough money for the things that you need and value. How Emotional Intelligence training is beneficial in finding the strength to ask for support. The importance of investing in Emotional Intelligence training for companies that want to emerge strong from this crisis.LINKS MENTIONEDwww.kerstinkirchsteiger.comWork-Life Flow FB Group https://www.myworklifeflow.comInstagram, LinkedIn , Facebook, Twitter

In this first episode, I share my story about why I created the Work-Life Flow Podcast. What I’ve learned through my training and my experience, is that once you stop “doing it all”, and start asking for what you need you will feel empowered. You will find yourself again. Does my family have it all figured out yet? No, the kids grow and change, our needs as adults change and with it come new challenges. But I know, with the tools that I have learned we'll figure this out as a family. And I want the same for you. I want to take you on this journey to finding yourself and making your family vision a reality. I want to help you find your work-life balance so that you can accomplish your professional goals, reach financial independence, and enjoy a fulfilling family life. What we’re talking about...The journey motherhood has taken me on.That through sharing our stories we can connect more deeply How mom guilt seems to get in our way of making self-care a priorityThat women are still not being paid the same for the equivalent workWhy fighting for equality for women is important within and outside the homeHow to view this pandemic as the catalyst to change for a better tomorrowA call to speak up, and voice your needs to your partner, manager and representativesThat it is on us to create the society of tomorrow and build our villages.LINKS MENTIONEDGet your freebie here Find out more about what I do hereWork-Life Flow FB groupKerstin K Leadership Consulting FB pageMe on Instagram Get my 10 Easy, Screen Free Hacks to keeping kids entertained here
