Does being a good coach make you a good gym owner? In today's episode of “Run a Profitable Gym,” host Mike Warkentin dives into this question with one of the top coaches in the world, Ben Bergeron. Ben has trained numerous CrossFit Games and Affiliate Cup champions, and he's also the founder of CrossFit New England and CompTrain, as well as the author of the book “Chasing Excellence.”According to Ben, it takes a lot more than just a passion for coaching if you want to run a successful gym in 2024. He dials in on a few essential business skills for gym owners: building and leading a team, understanding your financials, and being—or having—a high-level coach.Another key question Ben addresses: Will your gym be successful if you get an athlete to the CrossFit Games? To hear more from Ben and other incredible speakers such as Jason Khalipa and Brian “Tosh” Chontosh, get your tickets to the Two-Brain Summit, June 8 and 9 in Chicago, via the link below.LinksTwo-Brain SummitGym Owners UnitedBook a Call3:41 - What happened with Ben10:49 - What did Ben change?19:37 - Did things improve?29:26 - Advice for prospective gym owners35:44 - Competition success doesn't mean gym success

“Justin is just a very unique individual. Early on, I think it was hard to put your finger on … what's possible for this guy, but I am really, really, really excited to find out. We've had the opportunity to coach a lot of athletes over the years in our affiliates, and the rate at which Justin could learn and implement things and improve is just something I have never seen before.” Owner of CrossFit Fort Vancouver and CrossFit Level 3 Trainer Adam Neiffer sits down with host Adrian Conway to share his wisdom and experience as a former competitive athlete, an affiliate owner, and coach to two-time Fittest Man on Earth Justin Medeiros. Neiffer was introduced to CrossFit by his brother who came across the sport online. Having grown up playing sports, including football, Neiffer thought he was “pretty fit,” but was quickly humbled after taking on his first CrossFit workout Angie. Pulling from his experience, he explains how he's created a “happy, hungry, awesome” environment at CrossFit Fort Vancouver to elicit a positive change for coaches and members of the community. He also shares what makes working with two-time Games champion Medeiros so special. Tune in to today's enlightening episode to learn more from Neiffer's experiences in the sport, how and why he fell in love with CrossFit, and how CrossFit has been influential in other parts of his life, especially as a wildland firefighter.

“It's really important that we highlight how important the affiliate is to everything we do, and that should transcend whether that's having the average person show up and have a life-changing experience due to the coaching that they're going to receive all the way down to how it reflects in the competition.” —Adrian BozmanHost Chase Ingraham and CrossFit Competition Director Adrian Bozman outline the 2022 Games season for athletes preparing for the Affiliate Cup competition at the 2022 Games Finals. To compete in the Affiliate Cup, athletes must first register for the Open as an individual. A member of the affiliate — who is then designated as the team captain — will then register the affiliate team. The team captain can add members to the team and/or members can join the team themselves. After the Open, the top 25% of teams from each continental region with a minimum of 50 teams will advance to the Quarterfinals. The top 80 teams in North America, 40 teams in Europe, and 20 teams in Africa, South America, Asia, and Oceania will advance to Semifinals. The top one to five teams, depending on the Semifinal, will advance to the CrossFit Games Finals in Madison. In this episode, Bozman gives an in-depth breakdown of which athletes are eligible to compete in the Affiliate Cup, what steps they and their teammates need to take to advance, and how teams will submit scores. Bozman also confirms that team athletes can expect to see variations in workouts across divisions and more of an emphasis on teamsmanship during the Quarterfinals stage.
