Luke Tomlinson (Impropod Podcast) and Ash Farkas join Flixwatcher to review Ash's choice Pig. Pig (2021) is a drama about a ex-chef and his beloved foraging pig. Written and directed by Michael (A Quiet Place: Day One) Sarnoski it stars Nic Cage as Robin ‘Rob' Feld the reclusive truffle-forager and Alex Wolff as Amir, an inexperienced buyer and seller for luxury restaurant ingredients. One night Rob is attacked and beaten, at the same time his pig is stolen. Rob enlists the help of Amir to track down his pig and help him gain information he needs. Pig is a revenge film but not the type you might expect. Anyone expecting a John Wick/Taken approach will probably be disappointed. It is meditative look at life and food and the choices we make. Recommendability scores were pretty solid. With a runtime of 92 minutes it also scored well for repeat and engagement to give an overall score of 3.90. Shoot the Hostage concludes its Nicolas Cage-a-thon with Pig (2021), a film that proves Nic Cage can do subtle, heartbreaking, and filthy all at once. Join Dan and Sarah as they wade through the truffle-scented forest of Michael Sarnoski's directorial debut, discussing whether this is an anti-revenge movie or Cage: Pig in the City. Expect spoilers as we discuss the film's themes, from grief and loss to the pretentious world of gourmet dining. We'll be asking the big questions, like: Is Pig just John Wick with a truffle pig instead of a puppy? How does the film deconstruct the revenge movie genre? Why are the chapter titles named after fancy food (Rustic Mushroom Tart, Mom's French Toast, A Bird, a Bottle, and a Salted Baguette)? Is Adam Arkin related to Alan Arkin? (spoilers – yes, of course!) What does this film have to say about critics & the commodification of art? (A lot, apparently!) Was Nicolas Cage almost bitten to death by an untrained pig actor (we have the answer!) If you're a fan of Nicolas Cage, indie films, or movies that make you think (and maybe cry a little), this episode is for you. We'll also be talking about the performances of Alex Wolff and Adam Arkin, plus Sarah's dream of living in the woods with a pet pig and reliable Wi-Fi. Spooktober continues as we discuss the second The Simpsons Halloween special Treehouse of Horror II. Then Indy previews his Spooktober pick, the divisive 2018 psychological horror film Hereditary.   I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha & Indy Randhawa   "Treehouse of Horror II" is the seventh episode of the third season of the American animated television series The Simpsons. It first aired on Fox in the United States on October 31, 1991. It is the second annual Treehouse of Horror episode, consisting of three self-contained segments, told as dreams of Lisa, Bart and Homer and is the only Treehouse of Horror episode to date where each segment name is not stated inside the episode. In the first segment, which was inspired by W. W. Jacobs's short story The Monkey's Paw and The Twilight Zone episode "A Small Talent for War", Homer buys a Monkey's Paw that has the power to grant wishes, although all the wishes backfire. In the second part, which parodies the Twilight Zone episode "It's a Good Life", Bart is omnipotent, and turns Homer into a jack-in-the-box, resulting in the two spending more time together. In the final segment, Mr. Burns attempts to use Homer's brain to power a giant robotic laborer.   Hereditary is a 2018 American psychological horror film written and directed by Ari Aster in his feature directorial debut. Starring Toni Collette, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd, and Gabriel Byrne, the film follows a grieving family tormented by sinister occurrences after the death of their secretive grandmother. Episode 40 - Hype Episode: Pig (2021)In today's brief episode, it's all about Michael Sarnoski's 2021 overlooked indie feature, Pig. This heartfelt story will surprise you and remind you why Nicolas Cage is a one-of-a-kind actor. Discover why Pig is a standout, featuring one of Cage's best performances in years. The movie slowly reveals more to us about Cage's enigmatic character and how he has had a profound impact on the people around him. The supporting cast, including Alex Wolff and Adam Arkin, also shines.Fun fact: Director Michael Sarnoski caught John Krasinski's eye with Pig, leading Krasinski to offer him A Quiet Place: Day One. Sarnoski brings back key collaborators from Pig for his new project, ensuring the same intimate storytelling. It's unfortunate that this 2021 film didn't receive the support needed to be on the Academy's radar, as Cage's stellar performance truly warranted a nomination at the very least. Pig stands as a testament to independent filmmaking and exceptional storytelling.Streaming now on Hulu in the USA (if you are outside of the USA, use the search engine justwatch.com to see through which platforms in your country you can stream, rent, or buy this film), Pig is a film you won't want to miss. Michael Sarnoski, director of the recent summer horror hit A Quiet Place: Day One, made his feature directorial debut with 2021's Pig starring Nicolas Cage and Alex Wolff.  Pig is the story of a withdrawn farmer living in the Oregon woods with his trusted and lucrative truffle pig.  When the pig is kidnapped, Cage's character embarks on a journey to find it and also maybe himself.  The producers didn't have the money to hire a trainer for their porcine star for more than three days so they started shooting and hoped for the best - the pig ended up biting star Cage several times! Dan and Vicky discuss the indie critical hit along with lots of recently seen like Tuesday, Inside Out 2, The Exorcism, The Watchers, The Blackening, Daddio, and Hacks season 3. For the third entry in this successful sci-fi/horror franchise, the story kicks off at the very beginning of this worldwide alien invasion....in New York City, the city that never sleeps.  So now these terrifying creatures who are mainly attracted to sound waves....are landing in the ONE place with the most NOISE. :o Our main character this time around is Samira played by Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong'o who finds herself in the middle of this invasion and we follow her as she attempts to survive....and eventually pairs up with a British law student overseas played by Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things).  What results is a contemplative thrill ride as directed by Michael Sarnoski who recently helmed the acclaimed psychodrama Pig starring Nicholas Cage.  So once again, remember the main rule: SILENCE equals SURVIVAL.  Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a Text Message.https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

"A Quiet Place: Day One" is the third film in the "A Quiet Place" franchise and finds "Pig" filmmaker Michael Sarnoski picking up directorial duties from franchise helmer John Krasinski. With the prequel setting the action in New York City on Day One of the Death Angels' arrival, Sarnoski takes us away from the family of the first two films and introduces us to new characters played by Academy Award-winner Lupita Nyong'o ("12 Years A Slave"), "Stranger Things" breakout star Joseph Quinn, and "Old's" Alex Wolff, with Djimon Hounsou reprising his role as Henri from "A Quiet Place Part II." Sarnoski was kind enough to return to the podcast and spend some time talking with us about his work on the film, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which is now playing in theaters from Paramount Pictures. Thank you, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on...
