Verity “Very” Nelson can do it all. She's student body president, debate club whiz, and first chair clarinetist and can do the most push-ups in one minute in gym class. You could say she's pretty much the best at everything…Well, almost everything. Everything except math. And it's not like she doesn't try. Math just doesn't make sense in her brain. But it better start soon, or else she can kiss her presidency—and her campaign promises—goodbye. Soon Verity finds herself enrolled in a remedial math class where, despite her best efforts, failure persists. All seems lost until a teacher helps her discover the truth. Verity discovers that her struggles with math go beyond misunderstanding—she has dyscalculia, a learning disability that makes it hard for her brain to understand number-based information and math. Her eventual diagnosis helps her come to a better understanding of herself, and it mirrors author Hope Larson's own struggles with dyscalculia. As the story progresses, Verity must learn that appearances aren't everything, especially when it comes to seeming like she has it all together. Armed with a new perspective, can Verity pass math, keep her presidency, and make good on her word to the student body she loves so much? Or will her presidency—and perfect reputation—all come crashing down? Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Director Michael Sarnoski is tasked with seeing our story through New York City, tossing in some immense heart and drama into an otherwise concession-filled franchise. But, of course he did. He directed Pig, after all!Topics:(PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 24-minutes discussing an article on deadline titled "James Mangold Doesn't Want To Be "Handcuffed" To 'Star Wars' Lore", some comments to this headline & article Melvin noticed, and general frustration with the concept of "Fandom". (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)First things first: you don't have to watch the first two films to enjoy A Quiet Place: Day One. It's entirely its own thing with its own characters.Apart from an apocalyptic event, Shirleon didn't know what to expect. By the end, she'd been completely won over, tears and all.Celebrating Eric, Joseph Quinn's character, as a well-rounded man who is expressive, emotional, and brave, rather than some testosterone-led survival aficionado ready to fight some aliens.Melvin felt this was the best of the three films by a long shot.Reading the poem “Bad Math”, then discussing our interpretations. The significance of the pizza, and healthy uses of fantasy.Discussing the ending.Recommendations:The Terror (2018) (TV-Series)The Endurance (2015) (Book)The Book of Henry (2017) (Movie) Support the showSupport on Patreon for Unique Perks! In this powerful message from the Fire in Our Bones conference in San Diego, Pastor Tim Dilena dives into Acts 16:6-26, exploring the story of Paul and Silas imprisoned in Macedonia. In a recent episode of his own podcast, financial guru Dave Ramsey touted an 8% withdrawal rate for assets as his advice to those at or near retirement – and decried those who might disagree as “goober supernerds.” To assess the validity of Ramsey's claims, our host Michael Finke, PhD, CFP® assembled The College's resident retirement supernerds – adjunct professor of wealth management David Blanchett, PhD, MSFS, CFA, CLU®, ChFC®, CFP® and professor of practice Wade Pfau, PhD, CFA, RICP® – to discuss their printed response to Ramsey, optimal withdrawal rates, sequence of returns risk, and best-practice retirement planning. It's clear that we need to fix the way we measure the value of new medicines. Current methods fail to account for the benefits to caregivers, the long-term savings from keeping a job or avoiding the hospital, and the countless scientific discoveries that a new drug can lead to. But there is a solution according to this week's guest, biotech investor Peter Kolchinsky. He talks about his new study that looks at innovative ways to assess the real value of medicine. Peter explains how insurers use cost-effective math to determine what drugs they will and won't cover, and alternative methods that take into account patient and caregiver needs. Plus, Terry and Bob discuss some must-pass healthcare bills for the chronic disease community. We all want to belong, somewhere. It's human nature. Often, we think of finding a place to belong as just us fitting in with the crowd. If all we're doing is compromising to fit in, how do we find where we can fully and truly belong? Our next story in Mark takes a look at one woman who takes a path nobody else wants her to take. We'll see what she did and what Jesus says about what it means to fully belong instead of simply fitting in

Every night for one hour, two talented radio hosts: Dominick Izzo and Common Sense Ashley come together to deliver a unique stream of consciousness for their loyal and growing audience. Those easily offended need not apply. Mature audiences only. Dominick Izzo is a retired police officer, former political candidate, author and Warrior for Christ. His mission is healing police community relations and modeling the oath he swore when wearing the badge. Izzo believes his greatest service is to God and in serving his community he is living the calling that he was made for. Linktrees are more and more often including a link to space that isn't really Cosplay related – it is however money related – and what you're selling, well…it's probably the oldest profession out there. Is this what you wanted? You built a following to coerce people into buying YOU? Your time, your opinions, your…”art” so to speak? We're not here to bash, but you could have easily done all of that without Cosplay.Does it give Cosplay a bad name? It can – but ASMR is banned in certain countries and it's not inherently evil or seductive. It is what it is – and many call themselves ASMR Artists. I follow a few too, and I can honestly say I don't know why people think it's evil. Anyway – let's do some math on the sense and cents it makes to sell yourself and then use those proceeds to buy into your hobby. Many of us look forward to December and holiday traditions, festivities and getting together. However, sometimes in our excitement, we overestimate our capacity; we add all sorts of things into a schedule that is already busy! It's like trying to add 4 more hours a day to the the 24 hours a day we already have planned with our normal activities like sleeping, caring for our kids, doing work, caring for the house, and still hoping to get 24 hours! It's bad math! The whole reason most of us look forward to these things is because we anticipate they will bring us and others joy! And when we try to cram too much in, we end up feeling overwhelmed, stressed out and disappointed….the exact opposite of why we wanted to do them in the first place. On the podcast, we're going to help identify if you might have some bad math this holiday season. And, if so—how to improve your math so you can get the result you want. The ClimateReady Podcast: Adapting to Climate Change & Uncertainty
The story of water management in the Western United States is epitomized by the Colorado River. Water managers in the early twentieth century set up structures and policies that would have implications for tens of millions of users across multiple states and countries — and all based upon faulty math. How have the systems and infrastructure along the Colorado River impacted development? How is climate change coming into play? And are there reasons for hope that the story of conflict and mismanagement can become a story of cooperation? In this episode of ClimateReady we are joined by John Fleck, a renowned author, science journalist, and Director of the University of New Mexico's Water Resources Program. We cover a range of topics relating to the Colorado River from transboundary management, to balancing competing water demands, to the role of storytelling in developing good water governance. All of this and more can be found in his new book “Science Be Dammed: How Ignoring Inconvenient Science Drained the Colorado River” (https://uapress.arizona.edu/book/science-be-dammed). We wrap up with another “Climate of Hope” story as part of an ongoing collaboration with the World Youth Parliament for Water. Juliane Schillinger talks about the growing voice of scientists in political movements as a result of the climate crisis and the benefits of stepping out of the “ivory tower.”
