In this episode of "All I Know," several generations of the women on my family reflect on their time on the farm in Nebraska. Each, depending on the time of her birth, experienced the farm differently. Even so, many of the lessons from farm life were the same. Listen in, and catch all the light you can! As you make your way through this conversation, you will have to forgive the fact that we sound like we're huddled in a tin can! Picture these women huddled around a microphone - but not too close, because it's scary to be recorded! - with sound bouncing off the wood floor and the exposed vents of my mother's loft-style living room. We thank you in advance for forgiving our imperfection.
Stephanie. In the second part of this story and the final installment for her series with us, Stephanie breaks open a very private time of healing in her marriage. Lots of challenges and a few impossible surprises along the way lead to another miracle. Are you in need of a miracle? Hear the first-hand account of Stephanie's, and catch all the light you can!
I sat down w hip hop artist RaRa, who is currently based in Appleton. His songs "Where You Been", "Band Walk", and "All I Know” all dropped over the summer. We discussed RaRa's origins making music, his latest songs, becoming a father, having difficult conversations about racism, and how his sister (who had been in a tragic accident) is doing. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ben-slowey/support

Eli. In this episode of "All I Know," she shares about her experience surviving a childhood during which her primary caregiver was battling mental illness. Eli touches on the healing power of relationship, how important it is to be "seen" for who we are, and how she found her footing without someone to show the way. "When I lay on my deathbed - you know, I'm thinking like 103 - my hope is that I can look at the generations beneath me and see that the memo they all got was that it's about relationships and loving each other... And being goofy as hell." Eli said that. Listen in and catch all the light you can!
Devon. In this episode of "All I Know," Devon shares the journey she has walked with yoga, and how it became her healer as she worked through patters of disordered eating. "I knew it was out of control because I didn't have space in my mind for anything else." How can we get ahead of something that's all-consuming? Devon has practice with this, and found her way to better balance. Listen in, and catch all the light you can!

When asked about her definition of success, Kelly responded, "If you'd asked me that question five years ago, I'd have a completely different answer than I do today." Listen in and catch all the light you can!

"There needs to be more of that." More of that? What's "that?" Listen in on Kate, and catch all the light you can! Update: Since these episodes were recorded, Kate's angel of a Mother flew Heavenward. Wishing you peaceful rest, Mrs. N.
Kate. In the first of this two-part series for "All I Know," Kate gives us a glimpse into her life in a chair and shares with us about the accident that left her without the use of her legs. Anybody else have a connection to someone who was once the FBI's fugitive of the month? This story is crazy and hopeful and sad and inspiring. Jules. In this episode of "All I Know," Jules shares her journey coming to love in a way she did not expect. She takes us through the revelation that others' expectations of her need not be her obligations to fulfill. Jules said, "And I stepped into this life knowing that I was about to shatter everything that had been expected of me in my professional world, with my children, with my husband..." Years ago, there was an orignal song written for the show "Nashville." When Jen left this interview, this song made sense, and seemed a proper anthem for Jules. "This time we have together is our shelter from the rain. I will share this weight you carry; let me be your sanctuary." If ever you have needed a safe haven, take comfort in hearing the story of one who found hers. Listen in, and catch all the light you can! Update: Since this photograph was taken, Jules has gotten a very sassy haircut! She is as lovely with her short-do as she was with her braid.

Many people first heard the soulful voice of Conrad Sewell in the massive song "Firestone" with Kygo. Since being released in late 2014, it's racked up billions of streams. The singer-songwriter, originally from Australia, also found success with his debut EP "All I Know," his Coca-Cola collaboration with the late Avicii and touring with Ed Sheeran and Maroon 5, among other things. Life on the road took a toll on his life, however. He says he was drinking a lot and it affected a previous relationship. This period inspired more honest songwriting (and beautiful vocals), which you can hear in "Come Clean" and "Healing Hands" off his latest release Ghosts & Heartaches. Conrad joined me on Olympic & Bundy to talk about growing up in Australia, his former band Sons of Midnight, the story behind "Firestone," songwriting, his musical influences, his latest release "Ghosts & Heartaches," his great hair and a lot more! Jimmy Webb emerged as a superstar songwriter and arranger in 1967 when two of his songs – The 5th Dimension’s “Up, Up and Away” and Glen Campbell’s “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” - were among the five nominees for the Grammy’s Song of the Year award. He went on to write a string of major hits for Campbell, including “Wichita Lineman,” “Galveston,” "Where’s the Playground Susie,” “Honey Come Back,” and many others. Additionally, he penned “MacArthur Park,” which was a hit for a diverse range of artists, including Richard Harris, Waylon Jennings, Tony Bennett, Andy Williams, and Donna Summer; “The Worst That Could Happen,” which was a Top 5 hit for The Brooklyn Bridge; “Didn’t We,” which was recorded by Thelma Houston, Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, and Barbra Streisand; “All I Know,” which became a Top 10 hit for Art Garfunkel; “The Moon’s a Harsh Mistress,” which has been recorded by Joe Cocker, Judy Collins, Linda Ronstadt, and Josh Groban; and “If These Walls Could Speak,” which was recorded by Glen Campbell, Amy Grant, Nanci Griffith, and Shawn Colvin. Others who’ve covered material from the Jimmy Webb songbook include Diana Ross, Dusty Springfield, Nina Simone, The Four Tops, Roberta Flack, The Temptations, The Association, Tom Jones, Dionne Warwick, Cass Elliot, Harry Nilsson, Nancy Wilson, Cher, Bob Dylan, The Everly Brothers, Nick Cave, John Denver, Kenny Rogers, Sheena Easton, David Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Michael Feinstein, R.E.M., Aimee Mann, America, Aretha Franklin, Isaac Hayes, Peggy Lee, Bette Midler, James Taylor, Carrie Underwood, Dwight Yoakam, and The Highwaymen (consisting of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson), who took Jimmy’s song “Highwayman” to #1, earning him a Grammy for Country Song of the Year. As an artist, he has released more than a dozen albums, most recently 2013’s Still Within the Sound of My Voice, which features duets with guest artists such as Lyle Lovett, Carly Simon, Keith Urban, and Brian Wilson. One of the most celebrated songwriters on the planet, Jimmy is the only individual to win Grammy awards for music, lyrics, and orchestration. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Great American Songbook Hall of Fame. Additionally, he has received ASCAP’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the Influential Songwriter Award from the National Music Publishers Association, and the Academy of Country Music’s prestigious Poets Award. In 2015 he was named among Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time. Jimmy’s new memoir, The Cake and the Rain, details his formative years and early career through 1973. It’s available now from St. Martin’s Press.
